ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chicago Bears have signed running back Harvey Unga, a seventh-round pick in last week's Supplemental Draft.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Unga's deal is expected to be similar, if not identical to the four-year, $1.85 million dollar contract that Washington Redskins seventh-round wide receiver/return specialist Terrence Austin signed on June 16. Austin's deal included a $60,257 signing bonus.
Unga left BYU after violating it's honor code. The 6-1, 244-pound running back set the the BYU rushing record with 3,455 yards, and added 36 rushing touchdowns with 102 receptions for 1,085 yards and 9 touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield.
Unga joins a backfield that features 2008 second-round pick Matt Forte and free agent Chester Taylor, with Unga expected to fill a short-yardage/goal-line role as a rookie.
The Bears released wide receiver Vic Hall and defensive tackle Jimmy Saddler-McQueen, which also clears a roster spot for quarterback Mike Teel, who agreed to terms on Tuesday.
