Sports Illustrated's Peter King has nearly 500,000 followers on Twitter, which is nearly five times as many as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell currently has.

On Friday, King asked his followers to participate in an informal Twitter poll, asking if they favored the following:

A. Two preseason games and 16 regular season games

B. Four preseason games and 16 regular season games

c. Two preseason games and 18 regular season games

King received 1,200 responses in the 40-hour voting window, and 82.1% of responders prefer either "A" or "B", with just 17.9% confirming Goodell's claim that an 18-game schedule is what the fans want.

I voted "B", which I'm certain is the preferred choice of NFL coaches and talent evaluators, who need four preseason games to ensure they're putting together the best 53-man rosters as possible.

You wonder if undrafted Green Bay Packers linebacker Frank Zombo, who notched the first quarterback sack of the night for the Packers, would have even made the roster had he only had two preseason games to show Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy what he was capable of.

Goodell is hearing "fans want 18 games" when what's actually being said is that they don't like being forced to pay regular season ticket prices for preseason games.

An 18-game schedule is his solution to a demand that's simply not being made.

Reducing the price of tickets to these preseason games is a far more reasonable solution that reducing the length of the careers of the men who help make the NFL the greatest professional sports league in the world.
