Ty Montgomery and James Starks Sit Out First Practice After Bye Week

Starks latest addition to the list of injured Packers.

The Packers returned to the practice field today for their first action after the bye week and were at close to full strength.

Only two players reportedly were not participating in the session open to reporters: Ty Montgomery and James Starks.

Obviously, getting Adams, Raji and Burnett back for this weekend's big showdown with the Denver Broncos is a welcome development.

Montgomery is dealing with an ankle injury suffered in the Packers' win over the San Diego Chargers. No word on what Starks' injury is yet and we may not know until Wednesday as head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media prior to practice today and made no mention of Starks' unavailability.

I was expecting Montgomery to not practice, but Starks is the one that kind of surprises me a bit.

I am happy to see that Adams, Burnett, Raji, Perry are all back after missing a lot of time.

Kinda seems like with Nelson out for the season we have all kinda made Adams our savior so to speak. I really hope he pans out this year. I honestly think a healthy Monty would be more important to the team, but we shall see I suppose. And Starks hurt ....what the heck? That's not good at all.

What I like about Montgomery is he gives the offense the ability to have different looks.

But we could really use another WR on the outside. Getting Adams back will make Montgomery even more dangerous as the 4th WR when Ty comes back. I think getting Adams back will allow Montgomery to get better looks as the 4th WR, and especially when he shifts into the backfield.

I'm not saying he is the savior but he is another weapon that we have been missing.

I agree with Ed Laces and you know I'm with you on Montgomery RC. You and I have both liked this kid a lot since the draft. I think that game against San Diego we were going to start to see more new things featuring him that game and the games that followed. I think the Packers really have something with him and McCarthy knows it. He was just going to start unleashing the whoop ass!

You are correct. You and I were very high on him since the draft.
I agree that in the San Diego game it looked like he was going to featured a lot until he got hurt.

I am looking forward to seeing all the WRs healthy and playing together again. I will take Montgomery over any teams 4th CB.

I can't honestly understand why they haven't used Abby as of yet...there wasn't any receiver better than he the year he came out...every time he touched the ball something good happened....I understand he might not be the fastest, the tallest, or the beefiest (if that's a word) receiver in the pros...but the guy at least has to get a chance.

Apparently he hasn't earned the playing time ahead of other WR. Make him earn it. I don't understand your fascination w/ such a fringe NFL player. Is it OK w/ you if he earns playing time instead of being given it?

I just think Adams lacks the consistency that Montgomery has...I could be wrong. But damn if he isn't fun to watch after the catch.

I like Montgomery, but his understanding of the offense is always going to take a year. Adams has a larger catch radius and is a smoother route runner imo.

Montgomery played in a similar offense at Stanford as the Packers use. Same concepts at least since it was a West Coast offense. Montgomery is also highly intelligent, Stanford type intelligent as opposed to Fresno St (no offense to that school) intelligence. I would not be surprised if Montgomery knows the offense as well, possibly better than Adams, even w/ a year less experience in it.

Montgomery has fairly long arms and a better vertical than Adams. So while Adams radius might be a little bigger, its not that much.

It might be intestinal nervousness with both of them. We have to wait to learn what are the reasons for staying out of practice. Well, Ty was limping and he was heavily helped to the side line, so it may be 3 to 4 week all together...

At this time Alonzo Harris may be healthier than both Lacy and Starks. Time for Harris to play and let Lacy and Starks rest their weary bodies.

No Monty means Abby returning kicks. I think I trust him back there, but it is new. And I don't love new when it comes to the return game. Maybe they'll go back to Hyde who has done very well in the past and seems like always catches the ball.

I don't need return yards, just catch the rock and hold on to it.

Also, I bet Starks is ready to go on Sunday night.

This is gonna be the Game we call "hold on to that ball", Eddie & Alonzo share the pill and "hold on to that ball", Those two plus Richard Rodgers have to open up the middle for at least Fives yards or more a pop,

I think its CLAYTIME to chop that ball loose!, With Raji, Daniels, Peppers, Jones, & Perry saying Hello to Peyton.
