Good Morning Packer Nation!!! Welcome to The Sunday Morning Packers Gameday Preview! This week the Green Bay Packers will be taking on the immortally over paid and overrated Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings (How do you vike that) lol. The Vikings find themselves with a 1-5 record, with little to look forward to other than another socially distant year from the Lombardi Trophy and ice fishing in January.
Nothing would take their mind off of their awful championship pedigree and equally abysmal record like an upset win at Lambeau Field. Will the Packers be able to prevail without Aaron Jones, Kevin King, and possibly David Bakhtiari? I will provide the answer to these questions and more in this week’s edition of The Sunday Morning Packers Gameday Preview.
In this week’s edition, I will talk about how I see this Sunday’s Afternoon Showdown playing out, three burning questions that will determine the outcome of today’s game, as well as some fantasy players I think you should use, as well as my picks, parlays, and game props for this week 8 matchup. I am happy to have you with me here today for this matchup of bitter rivals; so just sit back, relax, and enjoy this morning’s Packers Gameday preview with your morning cup of Joe or drink of choice.
What to Expect Against the Vikings in Week 8?
I know this is both a rivalry and a trap game but I feel like the Packers got their poor play, careless mistakes, and lack of execution out of their system over a series of awful practices and an equally awful game in Tampa. I expect the Packers to be dialed in and in midseason form and I think the defense will do just enough and come up with a couple of key turnovers that will ultimately secure another win.
On offense, I see Aaron Rodgers and the offense taking full advantage of a depleted Vikings pass rush and secondary. I think Rodgers will look to move the ball around to different skill players and rely on Davante Adams in crunch time. I cannot see a scenario in which the Vikings defense shuts down the Packers. I think the Packers will be able to move the ball at will and will coast to a two-score victory.
Three Burning Questions That Will Determine the Outcome of This Afternoon’s Game:
- Will the Packers be able to do enough to contain the Vikings rushing attack?
- Will Jaire Alexander be able to lockdown Adam Thielen and/or Justin Jefferson?
- Who on the Packers offense will shine this week?
Sunday Afternoon Fantasy Football Picks (Always Start the Plug and Play Guys):
- Jamaal Williams- (daily fantasy) with Aaron Jones out, look for Jamaal Williams to play a role in the screen game and at the goal line.
- Justin Jefferson- Jefferson has been an impact fantasy player in his rookie season and I expect him to get some favorable matchups with Kevin King being out and Jaire covering Thielen. Look for 100+ yards and a touchdown from Justin Jefferson.
- Dalvin Cook- It looks like Dalvin Cook will be giving it a go in a dream matchup against the Packers rushing defense. Even at 75% I see Cook rushing for 75+ yards and 2 touchdowns.
- Davante Adams- Aaron Rodgers loves and relies on Davante and I expect the standout receiver to see 10-15 targets again today. Look for ten catches 150 yards and a touchdown.
Picks, Parlays, and Game Props:
- Anytime touchdown scorer parlay: Jamaal Williams, Dalvin Cook, Davante Adams, and Adam Thielen.
- Two Touchdown Scorer: Dalvin Cook and Davante Adams
- Game Prop Parlay: Packers -6.5 and over 54.5 points (+420)
- $5 five team Parlay: Bills, Chiefs, Steelers (in the upset), Titans, and the Seahawks
- Game Pick: Packers 35 Vikings 24, I think the Packers offense is going to tear through the Vikings shorthanded defense once again, they are clearly the better team and will prove it this afternoon.

It looks like the sustained winds at kickoff will be between 25-35 mph. I do not expect to see much passing, and unfortunately, this mucks up the game quite and bit. GB is the better team, but does anyone remember 2007 when we were 12-2 and played @ CHI? They beat us because you couldn't pass the ball at all.
I think that's possible today, and I would not start any Vikings or Packers QB/WR as a result.
If he's healthy, Cook could get 30 carries. Mattison will get some. Williams will get 20+ and I'd expect Dillon to be involved too.

Yes, I worry that this weather may mean it’s run D versus run D. It’s a game where Jones would have been particularly valuable. Maybe Ervin gets more use. I certainly don’t think a lot of deep balls.

Rodgers talked about the wind expected today and didn't seem too concerned about its impact on short to medium throws. He did say he expected it to make a difference on long throws. Given MLF's offense is predicated on short to medium throws, the wind may be less impactful than expected.
Zimmer is usually really good at his defensive schemes, but his secondary is decimated and I expect Rodgers and MLF to try to take advantage despite the wind.

MLF relies on stretching the field. The fact that our opponents know the issues means that there will likely be less room underneath and more in the box. Their weaknesses at corner are reduced.

One thing that wasn't talked about is the extremely windy conditions when the Packers laid an egg against TB. Hopefully, with the home field advantage, Rodgers knows which way the wind is blowing, lol.

I agree in the sense that other factors were the major cause of the blow up, but the gusting wind didn’t assist. In that game and this it plays to a run first game. Tampa are good in many ways, it hurt them too. In this game I see it favoring the Vikings if it remains as bad as it currently is.

Winds out of the NNW means you get two quarters with the wind to your back. I think you see both teams try to open it up downfield with the wind and then play it more conservatively, control clock, try to limit opponent possessions, and drive the ball on the ground and short passes during the other two quarters.

If this game determines anything at all. It's about the players that won't play. Do you pay Bahk, King, and Jones? Or are we seeing their replacements "Take Over". The packers never liked to spend money. Its more then playing hardball now. They just don't have the cash. And because BG wanted a Qb last draft. Seems Trading for a Wr, could hurt us more next draft. My belief, is that the uncertainty of the Packers future, will keep them from reaching the super-bowl. A loss to the Vikings is "Just Not Acceptable". Reading between the lines is never easy. But the players we watch today. Must show the next man up in Green Bay, is not a thing of the past.

I’m thinking they won’t pay 69 or lindsley. They are showing they are replaceable with their current play. And lineman can be found in the 5th and 6th rounds.

I think the Packers have at least a short-term replacement--if not long term--on the roster already when it comes to replacing Linsley (they have 3 guys who can play C). If their plan is to not bring back Bakhtiari, I think they don't have his replacement on the roster, yet.

The Packers have no problem spending money! What they don't like to do is put themselves in cap hell. Trading a high pick for a 1/2 yr rental is idiotic when it's going to affect your cap problems and when that high draft pick might help you for a decade instead of 8 games! This ain't baseball or basketball where a single player puts you over the top. Football is the ultimate TEAM game! The best Packer pickup to help them win SB were waiver claims for Rison and Howard Green. NOT a big last minute trade!

King definitely is not worth it unless it’s a 1 year prove it , just missed too many games. Packers have no excuse for losing today it’s that simple.

Good Teams don't Lose. They Fight and have their way. Great things come from Great players. They have a strong will and keep putting everything into it. Most, hate seeing players come and go. { IT's Waiting for the right Time, That may never come. } The IR is the door that opens the way to losing. King, as well as are others, had their chance to be among the best. They are now just an insurance policy, and not a player that will have his way.

Kirk Cousins made tens of millions of dollars putting up huge numbers in games that don't mean anything against terrible defenses. I'm worried that this game falls right into those parameters. Yes I know it's windy (I don't live that far away) and that probably helps the Vikings defense, this is one of the very few games GBs WRs might be more talanted than the opposing DBs. I'm definitely far less confident than most fans about this one.
