The good - our one TD drive.

The bad - most of the game. Our offense and defense did not play very well. We lost the LOS on both sides of the ball.

The ugly - our secondary trying to cover Jefferson.

Moving on... Bears at Lambeau next.

Thanks, Since '61

Whoever decided to start Newman at RT, and dingleberry at RG, and not put Zach Tom at RT and Newman at RG, should be whipped. Same horrible mistake they made not starting Nijman at LT in the playoff game. And why didn't our premier cornerback cover Jefferson on every play? I'm no expert, but sometimes I wonder about some of these decisions.

Watson's drop and they can't get a Yard, once again was the difference in the momentum.

Good: AJ Dillon
Bad: AR12 for holding onto the ball too long and HC for a total vanilla and ineffective plan and preparation for what was known to be coming on both sides of the ball. No noticeable changes at the half? To hear him say it was effort and intensity, I'm not on the sideline, but effort and intensity are driven by leadership and my organization is void of leadership at the two most critical positions - hc and qb. I say BS MLF!
Ugly: the non-call when hsmith launched into AJ Dillon on the 1 yard line on the 3rd down play. Right in front of the official.
The tv crew touched on it, but quickly walked away. I'm glad AJD wasn't hurt. I wonder if the play can be reviewed/fined/suspended after the fact? Go watch it again and you'll agree.

The GOOD = STs were not a disaster.

The BAD = The overhyped D was exposed for a National TV audience.

The UGLY = All those offseason hype/puff pieces about the WR room being just fine after the Adams trade.

The Good: Ummmm, 1. It's over., 2. special teams did not add to the nightmare.

The Bad: Uuuuh how many sacks? (facepalm), O line wow... No more injury excuses for the O Line ! Our offensive line injuries did not happen last week. We've had 8 months to prep with what we have., Dillon and Jones DID NOT have 100 yards together ! Receivers with little separation and when there was open guys, and there were.... Aaron (passer rating of 67... OUCH !) was oblivious to them. It also seemed like AR doesn't trust any of them except for Cobb.

The Ugly: I can't remember a game when the defense, especially the secondary played as soft as they did... They just seemed lost.
Aaron, stop playing "Premadonna", yes you WERE MVP, LAST YEAR and you got a big fat/bloated contract. What have you done for us lately? When in the game, get your head in the game and stop whining about others. Your condescending only hurts the team and rabid TEAM fans, like us.

The Packers looked like they were playing in a week 1 pre-season game and the Vikings were playing in a playoff game.

Constellation: It wasn't the Bears...

Special teams didn't add to the nightmare, but if the punter doesn't get the ball out more quickly there are going to be blocks throughout the season. Vikings came within inches of blocking three punts because the guy delays a half second longer than most.

Couldn't agree more. Plenty of negatives to go around. Agree that teams were sort of OK, but tightening up their line would help them.

Coaches and coordinators suffered from brain farts throughout the game. 3d &2 and we PASS the ball twice? Total lackluster performance throughout.

Did you notice that Love did something that Aaron didn't do ? Threw a bunch of completed passes to receivers who appeared invisible to Rogers.

Good thing we had that highly touted and talented defense going for us!!!.....Please people....next time...let us as fans not fall into the trap of making snap judgements of how good (or not good) the packers Defense in predicted to be based on mini camp or training camp reps!!......Rather......Let us insist as fans that they prove it to us first!!

I know its only one game.......and the first game at that but.....i saw zero difference in the 2022 version of the Packers Defense and the 2021 version! If anything......once again taking into consideration that it was the first game and....the first actual football that the starters have played since Febuary....the Defense looked worse!!
Add to this the fact that we've already suffered major losses on Defense via injury.......!!!! This (once again and being the first game of the season)........could make dire consequences for the team going forward!! After all, Quality Linebackers don't grow on trees in this league!! add to this the fact that the Bears....just handily defeated the 49ers!!

Many of the teams that played today looked completely ready to play( including the Bears) and almost in mid season form!! AS usual..the Packers didn't!! Frustrating and disappointing!!

This is a bad take. The defense had a disappointing outing for sure, but essentially gave up 20 points, on the road, against a better than average offense. Can they do better than that, absolutely... but there are about 40 offensive issues bigger than what the defense is facing right now, they shouldn't be the focus after that loss.

Agreed. Even having a terrible game plan for Jefferson and letting him run free, the defense still only gave up 23 points, 3 of them you can put on the offense for the turnover.

The defense wasn't the problem. It was the scheme. They were letting Jefferson roam free in the secondary with soft zone. That's coming straight from the top. There's only one other guy who could have beaten GB the way Jefferson did and that was Cook. Cook wasn't having the best game of his life, so the question that begs is WHY was Jefferson an AFTERTHOUGHT? You'd think after watching other defenses get toasted by him they would've tried a LITTLE harder to keep him contained. They let the safeties and linebackers carry him most of the day. Inexcusable.

I was dumnfounded when I saw Rasul Douglass in zone passing Jefferson off to Savage.....He ran right through the zone!!! I have to believe they just man up next time with Jaire. If Jefferson still goes for nearly 200 yards against one of the best corners in the game...well tip the cap. Could not be worse.

I say double team the freaking guy. Or run man coverage all day. Our defense is designed to be physical and get to the quarterback. I saw it all day long, Cousins was able to hang on to the ball juuuust long enough to avoid getting sacked and it's been that way for years. We never sack him enough but we always get good pressure. It's the soft zone that is the death of them because it doesn't execute in time. The next time they play, they need to play man through and through. They have the personnel to match the Vikings offense perfectly. Match Douglas up with Thielen, Stokes up with Osborne and Alexander up with Jefferson.

How about anybody covering him? There were allot of times he wasn't covered at all. Must have figured he was just a decoy. Not fair for them to use a decoy decoy.

I didn't even mind when they went for it and were stopped 4th and goal, because the defense was going to stop them 3 and out or get a safety or a turn over.

Have to win in the trenches to do that, I guess.

Good - nothing.
Bad - Barry's D on on JJ. Just astoundingly stupidly bad.
Ugly - MLF - the team prep is on him. How many times has he blown this already? Season openers... Playoff games...
I know it's just the first game but I've pretty much lost confidence in him being able to take us to the SB. Obviously he's a successful NFL coach. But he's the limiting factor with this team. I said so last year. He's going to have to prove me wrong. (Please!).

What a crappy way to start the season - again! Ruins my whole week.

PS - I don't know how you can tell the players didn't play with any 'heart'. AJ played pretty well too.

I dont know how everyone got the idea this years d was better. Our two Georgia picks were not the best on the team? Walker played okay, dont know about Wyatt if he did anything.
Our Pass D was awful but they are always awful. They costs us three playoff games in a row and nothing was done to improve it. We will got Barry and he is stuck with a team that lacks talent. He has one guy Alexander and teams just stay away and pick on Stokes who they know is clueless. Stokes has size, speed and the brain of a scarecrow.
This is embarrassing. Rodgers and new receivers are not going to make up for this glaring discrepancy. I say its going to be a long year.
The Lions and Bears all played better then the Packers today.

The Good. Clay Walker, Wow what a player.

The Bad. Aaron Rodgers. MVP? Prove it. New name for Rodgers, MR Perfect. I wish they would have traded him.
He shows anger for the young guys when they make a mistake, what about holding the ball too long? Not throwing to open receivers? Go look in the mirror and bitch. It was you who choked in the playoffs the last two years. Now he gets mad and shows up rookies for making rookie mistakes.

The Ugly. Injuries. Looks like 51 is done for a long time. Hopefully 7 and Mixon will be back soon.

Mr. Perfect... I was actually thinking about this. Rodgers and his crappy attitude. Basically all the guy needs to be great is pro-bowl receivers that he decides to trust, his pro-bowl LT and future pro-bowl RT, and a defense that is top 10 in the league. Why can't the team just give him all those things and pay him top dollar at the same time? Is that too much to ask? (sarcasm)

The good: the backs.

The bad: the receivers (looking at you, Watson) the blocking, pretty much everything.

The ugly: the game plan (my God you'd think we would have tried a LITTLE harder to stop Jefferson but no effort was made and he was allowed to roam free and basically uncontested) the injuries, Aaron Rodgers.

Conclusion: the Vikings have won their Superbowl and unfortunately they now think that they own the NFC North and will continue to run their mouths for the next 10 weeks. We knew this was going to happen, being that it's in Minnesota and the Packers never play well there, but epecially after that first touchdown drop by Watson. How very unfortunate though, because if that catch happens this is a completely different ball game. The Packers didn't capitalize on any chances they had and they did not game plan well on offense or defense. Let's hope the offensive line can FINALLY come back to full strength soon and everyone who got hurt in this game is able to come back quickly.

The Watson drop, the AJ Dillon run at the goal line, the 4th down pass,to a double covered Tonyan, at the goal line, all failed. If we convert those, its a different game.

Aaron, first game of the season and relax. Did you see how Christian Watson changed the defense of Minnesota after the first play of the game. Blows by the cornerback safety is playing up and their defense left huge open spaces for the running game and short crossing routes over the middle after that time. If Rogers had paid attention and stuck with what was available there was so much opportunity for the Packers. Christian Watson is a game changer whether he catches the ball or not. Do you think defenses are going to challenge him to catch the ball? I don’t think so

They're going to challenge Aaron Rodgers to throw it to Christian Watson.
Until Rodgers shows he will, they'll gamble.

It like how opposing defenses didn't respect the middle of the field for a number of years because Rodgers wouldn't throw the ball anywhere except outside the hash marks.

Good:- None
Bad:-The oline really got mand handled esply hanson and Newmann and Arod holding the ball few times didn't help either.
Hopefully that watson's drop will not haunt for rest of the season.
Ugly:- The paper top 5 defense seems clueless with us almost drafting every year(4 times in last 6 yrs) in the first rd.
Matt Lafluer's stubborness in not learning from previous yr's mistakes.

The reason y i put offense in bad because we all expected our offense to struggle with no true wr1 and inexperienced oline. But we all thought that the defense would be top 5 and would have offense's back for initial few weeks but the way the defense played today makes me wonder that did we really overestimate our defense?

Agreed. The positives from the o line were Myers, Yosh, and Tom. They didn't stink and Tom is a lightning fast lineman. Hanson is not good. Newman is not a good tackle, probably bottom 1/2 of the league.

One thing I'm really looking forward to is Jenkins and Bakh (hopefully) coming back. That will be huge for this offense. Heck, just Jenkins will be a huge benefit if it means Hanson can go to the bench and Newman inside. Yosh did ok, he is not in the bottom 1/2 of the league.

Having a head coach who has to give his team a hellfire motivation talk after one half of football into the season. Having a head coach who was out thought and out prepared by a rookie. Having a Head Coach who admits after the game that what did not work last year hadn’t worked this.

The inability to predict and plan for a mobile Jefferson when it was heavily flagged by his team. The unwillingness to squash the fallacy that Hanson is a starting caliber player. The unwillingness, despite all the talk, to lean on Jones and Dillon till the second half. The unwillingness to go back to Watson and Doubs when they make rookie howlers despite the fact it was clear that the other catchers either can’t play enough snaps or didn’t have it on the day and STILL not going to Jones.

Matt LaFleur ran a piss-poor game in virtually every respect. Horrid game plan, adjustment and, supposedly, effort. This isn’t the first time. It’s not isolated. This man is not a head coach but the guy who couldn’t win with Rodgers and, on the basis of today, doesn’t learn. This was the year when LaFleur had to show he could cut it. He did the exact opposite and uttered the same platitudes.

We’d have been better with Love and some cap room for the future. Not because Love is better than Rodgers, but because we might see him grow and LaFleur would have nothing to obscure his inability to win when scheme and Rodgers aren’t enough. It’s time to start actually seeing what’s in plain sight. There’s enough record now for those willing to look.

Agree. Been saying this is not only a year for AR cementing his playoff legacy (JAG in playoffs) but the same for MLF. He’s had is chances to say who he is vs the good teams and after coming out with an extra week off, an epic indictment about how he gets his team ready (SF). All off season to prepare to get that turd taste out of their mouth…and that’s what you deliver? Did MLF show his coaching ceiling after year one?

Good: We saw Watson get over the top of the defense on his first competitive snap of pro football ever, and Aaron Jones averaged 9.8 YPC.

Bad: Watson dropped a perfect catch right in his mitts, Dillon didn't stand a chance running behind a stood up guard on the goal line

Ugly: Rodgers never threw another pass at Watson and the RB who averaged 9.8 YPC only got the rock put in his breadbasket 8 times.

I stand corrected.

Rodgers did indeed decide to throw at Watson a second time.. Rodgers, who's first pass of the game was to Watson at the 9 minute, 17 second mark of the first quarter, attempted a second pass to Watson 50 minutes and 25 seconds later..

It's a 60 minute ballgame.

The Good: Last year the Packers lost their opener 37-3. This year, it was 23-7. This team has had slow starts for years. Why are we so surprised this year is more of the same?

The Bad: Dropped TD pass on the first Packers possession. Not being able to score from the one-yard-line. Obvious that some of the WR's are still learning the playbook.

The Ugly: Fan overreaction. This was one game, in a stadium that has always been a tough place for Rodgers to play, for some reason.

At the end of the season, we won't even remember this game. There are 16 more games to play. And, as always, it's not how you start, but how you finish. The defense was certainly overhyped, and Barry's defensive scheme all too often allowed Jefferson to roam the field with no Packer in sight. Will that happen again? Doubtful. Will the OL improve with the return of Bakhtiari and Jenkins? Undoubtedly. Are the WR's going to get better with the return of Lazard? Seems likely. In short, this was not fun to watch, but I refuse to start throwing a fit, or overreacting to a poor opening game. Let's see where the team is in a couple of months before deciding to throw people under the proverbial bus.

I agree with you, the OTs weren't ready to play so why risk further possible injury?
Lazard will make a difference, but Rodgers will have to change his thought process....take what they give you.
Haven't looked at game to see the breakdowns, but Berry can't be out coached again that badly or he'll be shipped off to Jacksonville.

Good…Deguara, Dillon, Jones, Tonyan and our punter we’re all acting like they were playing for something.

Bad, Joe Barry…bad play design set up players , using 2 DL causing out of position and injuries… I couldn’t tell the difference between him and Dom Capers this game.

Ugly…Lafluer. Because he knows he has a mixed WR group and a QB that abhors throwing to new guys…regardless if they’re open or not. And yet He did not lean into the run game until the 4th quarter. In that situation you use Dillon and jones and keep cousins off the field. It also seemed like MN had a copy of the play book for the specially designed plays for specific players or they know Rodgers tenancies. No blocking scheme set up for Z Smith. Poor game planning. I’m also going to add Rodgers to this list. Focusing only on Cobb

Not angry that we lost truth is Vikings are a better team when you don't have your two pro bowl tackles it is what it is,

Here is what I'm angry about coaches putting player's in a position to lose :

Jake Hanson why is he on an Nfl roster : He gave up 75 percent of the pressures and sacks personally got the 4 and 1 stuffed if zack tom was in the game instead of Hanson different story that is on Lafluer including not getting jones involved

Why the heck did you pay Jaire top dollar when he should have and wanted to shadow Jefferson. Jefferson if blanketed by Jaire would be a different story.

If an idiot like me can see this why can't highly paid coaches see this ? Heck even listnening to Jaire he sounds depressed he signed an extension with these clowns

The Good: Aside from the dropped TD on the first play, the offensive rookies look good, they will improve. Special teams played good.

The Bad: Is the defense as good as it has been hyped? Absolutely, NOT! They were not prepared for this game AS USUAL. Did they make the opposing QB look like a future HOFer? Yes, they did AS USUAL. Did AR's passes look as though he hardly threw during the preseason? Yes, AS USUAL. Unlike Cousins, did he hold on to the ball too long and take sacks instead of throwing it away? Yes, AS USUAL. Will he pass into double coverage as he has done in championship games instead of getting the first down? Were the DBacks and Safety lost out there ande looked like the Keystone Cops once again? Yes, AS USUAL. Will Bahk sit out the season, eating ding dongs and yodels all day and collect millions? Yes, AS USUAL. Were the Packers not just outplayed but also outcoached? Yes, AS USUAL.

The Ugly: I am tired of hearing MLF comment the bullshit like "you have to give Vikings credit, they played well" or " we came out rusty because it's the first game". I have news for you MLF, half of the ther teams that played today won their game!

The Good-We can now acknowledge that the Offense is lacking in the WR group, and the Top 5 Defense needs more than the hype

The Bad-The schedule is weak enough to allow this team to think them better than previous teams.

The Ugly- MLF hasn't learned much over three years and is apparently blind to the fact. It seems Rodgers has a list of ways to seal a loss.

Good point Taryn but i am afraid many in this forum will still think that this wr group enough to make it to the playoffs. If we look at all the top teams in nfl almost all of them atleast a true wr that the other defenses have to scheme up to.

Coming to GB we have none. To add to it qb who is known to not trust the rookies will only make the things worse.

Good: Rookies, AJ, Aaron Jones, Nijman, Meyers, ST.

Bad: MLF lack of balls to sit down Diva idiot and part away from him. Joe Barry preventive D where players did not know who to cover, OL, especially right side. Watkins that did almost nothing, Cobb beaten by father time etc.

Ugly: Aaron Charles Rodgers, aka "Rolling Eyes Diva". Oposing DCs knows his tendencies and Vikings left middle of the field completely empty for 10, 20 yards. I started to doubt of "RED" intelligence when he was pushing the ball to the sideline or did not throw the ball in 3 seconds after snap. I suppose idiots would understand that his OL can not keep pocket for longer. Also I did not see consistancy in his throws (he overthrow Cobb for INT). Well, not to forget: who needs f*cking TO. Lets spare all 3 in the 1st Q of the game. Hell, he did not manage to do that either. If you still believe that he did not hold the Packers as hostage, I do not know what to tell more. He humiliated Packers, got what he wanted and he is bringing this franchize to the mediocracy together with Mike Murphy.

Addition: I was looking Steelers at Bengals game. Joe Burrow threw 4 picks (one was pick six), fumbled once for loss, still menaged to almost win the game and overcome all obstacles. That is the leader of the team. Period.

If I'm young player, I would try to avoid Packers at all cost because of "RED".

Went to the game yesterday, not a great use of my savings.

The good - cocky team needed to be punched in the face and they were.

The bad - MLF/Coaching staff ability to prep for week one, Rodgers ability to coach up his young teammates

The ugly - the defense had zero energy, it was the weirdest thing to see. Nobody was talking to each other, there was no frustration, there was no encouragement, just nothing.

Both offensive and defensive lines did not look like they were in the same league as the Vikings.

Zach Tom is way better than Jake Hanson and probably Royce Newman. Myers and Yosh played ok. Runyan seemed up and down but Newman and Hanson were not very good.

But the defensive line, yeesh, they were getting pounded. Except for Clark, Smith, and Gary occasionally doing something, the line was 5 yards downfield on every run.

Kevin O'Connell way far outcoached Matt Lafleur That you
would asked yourself who was the Real Rookie Head Coach
coaching his first NFL Game .

From the result of yesterday game it look more like
Matt Lafleur than Kevin O'Connell who was coaching his first
NFL Game

MLF’s little sad face when (the entire game) he can’t figure out why his team isn’t up to the task.

Good: There was none
Bad: Barry's game plan if he had one that is! Anyone with a brain would have put Jaire on Jefferson the entire game.
Ugly: Rodgers riding his high horse like usual, Just because Watson messed up his first shot don't mean you stop targeting him, he had Peterson twisted more than a few times and Rodgers never looked at him, I think he had 4 targets the entire game with 2 catches with Rodgers then Love came in and he had 2 in the last couple minutes, UNEXCEPTABLE!

Good -
Showed potential to be a very good defense. A few mental mistakes and miscommunications led to some big plays. But they showed some really good stuff.

Quay Walker looks legit! Hopefully he is ok. I haven't seen any news about his shoulder.

Young WR's showed speed!

Bad -
Sloppyness, miscommunication, mental errors. Just way to many of those. You know its bad when coach calls the team out at halftime.

Ugly -
injuries - Losing Walker and Nixon to shoulder injuries. Hopefully they will be ok. Barnes looked bad. Runyan left with a concussion.
To start the game they didn't have both OT's, and #1 WR.

To many injuries to deal with for week 1.

The good- Losing in week one is recoverable. No the sky is not falling…yet.

The bad- The young receivers struggled. Watson dropped a 75 yard TD that might have changed the trajectory of the whole game. Rodgers held on to the ball too long on multiple occasions when he didn’t need to resulting in unnecessary losses and a turnover. That is a rookie mistake he made at the beginning of his career. Sometimes you have to dump the ball and live to fight another day.

The Ugly- Two years in a row blown away in a road opener. No one want injuries in the preseason but…this team played no one during the exhibition season. Pretty clear that this team was NOT READY to go. Sure the Vikings get credit. They played well and beat our ass. However, some of the comments at Halftime were alarming. LaFleur questioning “effort” and whatever else was said. Team did a lot of talking but didn’t back it up.

In the NFL no one feels sorry for you. Time for this team to get back to work.

At the end of the McCarthy era, he would hold the ball forever waiting for Davante to get open. LaFleur seemed to wean him off of this but yeah, it was the same old tendency. Maybe he was looking for Davante!?

Good: No more articles stating that losing Davante makes the team better.

Bad: OL and Joe Barry

Ugly: Eric Stokes trying to cover Jefferson or Thielen. Savage doing his HHCD impersonation.

The Good- Jones and Dillon both ran hard, displayed the only juice in the game. Special teams a step in the right direction.
The bad- Poor coaching on D and O- gave up on the run way too early. It was working and we had a whole quarter to go. 12 running the clock down when we needed to get it going but was too late when we went up tempo.
The Ugly- No sense of urgency or grit when smacked in the mouth. A total team defeat.

Moe, Larry and Curly could have put together a better game plan than MLF and his idiot coaching staff!

I could not overlook the opportunity of laying down a wager on a game that featured a QB - who is allergic to practices – with a history of poor first game performances – in a match that possessed heightened expectations (like a playoff game). Took the Vikings – easy money.

Also thinking that:
- J. Love could have also led the offense to 7 points (while saving the Packers approximately 40m this year).
-The D sure could have used a pre-season game to practice their craft.
- Hero ball (when the QB holds on to the ball 3+ seconds) – most often produces zero results.
- No negatives for the special teams – which for them is a positive.
- Re-thinking my love-hate relationship with Dean Lowry. More love – less hate.

Thankfully, the weak sisters of the NFC North is next. The unofficial start of the Packers regular season.

Have already blocked most the game from my mind but am I wrong that our motion/misdirection, on offense, seemed to be missing? Ok I am angry about them letting Jefferson run wild but we should be able to score more than 7 points.
It seems LF/Rodgers lose their patience very quickly and abandon our core identity so easily. Sad that we all waiting months to see this lack of effort

Good: None of our dbacks got hurt having Jefferson run over them all day
Bad: Coaching. Team was not ready by any stretch to play this game. Vikes had an entire new coaching staff and you wouldnt know it.
Ugly: Joe Barry and his Twilight Zone defense, its out of this world alright.

The Good: Special Teams (did you ever think you'd hear that again?)
The Bad: Dropping the TD on the opening series. Could have changed tenor of whole game.
The Ugly: Inability to score on 4th and 1 from the 1. Game was still in some doubt til then.
If this was a 1-time failure, it would be bad enough. But, this is emblematic of a persistent problem with Packer offenses. You MUST be able to make 1 yard on 3rd & 4th downs. It's a matter of attitude and simply imposing your will. Perhaps, as many others have noted, we're still "soft."
