Rams "made a run" at trading for Aaron Rodgers

The Packers were reportedly "adamant" that they will not be trading their superstar quarterback.

Going to be fun offseason.

Before anyone asks, Sam Farmer is as good as it gets. If he's reporting it, it happened.

Unable to land Rodgers, the Rams ended up sending two first-round picks, a third-round pick and Jared Goff to Lions for Matt Stafford

NO BRAINER! Doesn't matter the compensation. Too early to trade Rodgers. Maybe in 2 yrs, we'll see. But the Packers have a clear opportunity as long as Rodgers is the QB. Love might be the future but he's not the present at QB.

I was hoping they dumped him last year. Wow they could have gotten a ton for him and rebuilt the defense into a real contender. Yes he had an MVP year but the goal is not to be happy with wins, its the super bowl and championships and this team is never doing that with the crap defense. This team is one dimensional and he's it.
Without him, this may be the worst team in football. Use him to rebuild and take your lumps for two years.

After trading Rodgers then what? Start the guy who couldn't beat out Tim Boyle for the backup job? We are not needing a rebuild or even retool. We are WR and MLB away not dumping the league MVP away....

Is imapayne a Vikings troll or something ? I’ve never heard more dumb ideas from a poster.. You would’ve dumped Rodgers last year, and he just won a mvp this season.. Thank god you’re not the gm of this team.. You contradict yourself in your post saying get rid of him, but the packers would be the worst team in football without him ?? What?? Huh? Whowhat?? Okkkk .. The R tard is strong in this one..

I don't know about that one. He has a house in Cali. He's a Cali boy. I just don't know how the Rams would keep a decent team around Rodgers while taking on his salary.

Goff's contracts isn't better than Rodgers. They wanted to offload the crappy QB and his crappy contract. That's why they paid so much for Stafford.

Hypoyhetical , but ok just for amusment purposes if aaron rodgers demanded a trade one condition from gutey or murphy would be it will be an afc team thier would be no way they would ever trade him to an nfc team .. Not that a trade would happen anyhow .. Now I guess if the colts offered 3 first rounders darrious leonard and quentin nelson and would eat the cap hit for rodgers and take preston smith off the packers hands and eat that cap hit ok maybe LOL

Why would anyone offer three first for a 39 year old fart. First your going to eat a lot of money for his contract so you have little to fill spots and build around. Second, we dont know if Rodgers can last two or three more years. So your into a huge what if. When you have a huge what if, your going to give a first, a second, and a third the third year at best

Here he goes again with the derppiddy derp derp.. Hey guy, Stafford just got a kings ransom and had never won a single playoff game, and lost three.. He has a win/loss record of 69-82-1.. You probably thought Rodgers was done this year and in decline, and he obviously is not..Rodgers will be playing good football in his 40’s, might not be in Green Bay, but he’ll still be top ten.. There’s nothing to say he can’t, or won’t, and everything saying he will..Don’t let facts get in the way of media speculation, and other posters with your same ideals..The rams probably offered more for a Super Bowl mvp QB with a winning regular season record, and a decent playoff record.. Stafford can’t hold Rodgers jock, wow..

Glad they hung up the phone, although the lions made out like bandits in that trade. There’s a little part of me that still would of liked to see the offer....is that bad?

Let's assume they would have offered the Packers the same, because there is not much more they can give. Two 1sts, a 3rd and Goff. Would you make that trade? I wouldn't.

Not a chance. Goff's contract is about the same as Rodgers, If you can believe that. That was the reason the Rams had to pay so much. To entice the Lions to take a crappy QB AND his contract.

Given the firsts don't start rolling in 'til 2022...and the Rams would likely be picking in the late 20s?

First unlike Detroit, the Pack could not absord Goffs salary so I assume he wasn't part of the deal. So how were the Rams going to afford it. They too are cash strapped.
Too bad, could have used those picks to build this defense up. we already have his replacement and it's not like this team is going anywhere next year. With the lack of talent on d, and only a handful of picks, all late round this team ain't Superbowl bound. This year was a fluke. Next year it won't be so good.

This year was a fluke? Gimme a break, 13-3 two years in a row. A couple of plays kept them from going to the SB. The draft will be key this year, I see Gute making a move to move up.

Yeah... unless the conversation starts with 3 1s, and salary cap relief (is that even possible?) AND a bridge QB (assuming Love isn't ready), no chance. And THEN you don't ship your QB who just won the MVP off the team unless he's adamant he wants out. ARod isn't. No deal.

The Lions deal worked because the Lions wanted Goff and could handle his heavy contract. The pack would not want Goff, probably not part of the discussion and the Rams dont have a 1 pick this year. They already gave that away last year.
Kind of makes me wonder how the Rams could afford Rodgers if they cant unload the Goff money.

Would you guys flip Love right now for about the #25 pick?
How about the #20 pick?
For the #15 pick?
For the #10 pick?

I would not take Trey Lance over Love, and Trey is going Top-10.

Must agree, I think moving Love to swap pick to a higher first round is a good option. Word is he is lost in practice and at least the Pack can make something better out of a poor mistake in last years draft.

As a Bison ticket holder, i've seen first hand how good Lance is but he's not a finished product. He should have stayed in college one more year, so to your point...i agree. I'd choose Love over Lance because they both have talent, but Love has done it against better talent and played more games.

Love couldn’t beat out a UDFA from Idaho for the second string job. They would be lucky to get a 4th rounder for him.

Have to laugh thining, wow I wonder if they shared that with Rodgers? I mean you gotta beleive he could love new stadium, new team, a chance at the superbowl with that great defense, close to home, plenty of golf courses he knows well.
Maybe he learned of that today too and aint a happy little camper. LOL

The Rams did "due diligence" in this case. Why not ask? Can't hurt, might get things rolling. But it's like when the class nerd asks out the head cheerleader- the door gets slammed pretty hard, except in movies.

They "made a run?" Anyone can "make a run." Just like the Packers could "make a run" at trading for Patrick Mahomes. But that means nothing.

When you have media idiots like Jason La Canfora at CBS trumpeting how "all the GMs and coaches" are saying there will be a messy divorce in Green Bay, and when these media idiots do not seem to realize that anyone who needs a QB and virtually every team in the NFC (and especially in the NFC North) has a strong, vested interest in busting up the Packers, realize that you are dealing with media idiots who are just looking for clickbait.

Rodgers will be the Packers' QB for at least two more years, despite Mr Nagler's wish to see Jordan Love take the place of one of the top five QBs of all time owing to his "passive-aggressive" (Nagler's term for Rodgers) behaviour. Rodgers had an MVP year in 2020 (likely to be confirmed this week) and will play at a GOAT level for another three or four years, most likely at the helm of the Green Bay Packers while Jordan Love is sent to Jacksonville or Washington D.C. to fulfill his potential.

Yup, they will hang on to Rodgers until they can’t get a barrel of apples for him. What did they get for Favre, a 2nd rounder? A couple years earlier they could’ve gotten two 1st rounders.

This is so laughable. What exactly could the Rams offer us that could've made the trade a possibility? They don't even have a 1st round pick this year! So the best they could do was 2 future presumably late 1st round picks, plus 3 late 2nds, and Aaron Donald. And I still don't think that would be enough. Other teams would be able to offer a lot more.

We can all laugh at the Rams for what they paid to get Stafford...but once the Lions get those picks, no team in the NFC will want to face them. I hope I'm wrong, but guess we will see.

For the first time in over twenty years, the Lions have hired good and smart people to run their front office. John Dorsey is an excellent personnel man. No accident that the Browns suddenly surged this year. And the Lions new head is highly respected in front offices in the NFL. Depending on coaching hires, the Lions could develop quickly and become 'that' team. Nuts...

Everyone keeps talking about how Love couldn't beat out Boyle. We have no idea how Love preforms in practice. Boyle knows the system and is the clear backup for now...........BACKUP. I think Love will be the backup this year and may trade Boyle for a late round pick. He does have some experience. Or Gute may try to trade Love to move up in the first round, he has a year under his belt learning from the best.

So many unknowns for this Packer front office. Like most folks said upthread, it makes no sense to trade a QB who has returned to blue chip+ play in this offensive system. But hey, give the Rams credit, they did ask. That what smart organizations do. I think Stafford is going to be a monster in the Ram's variant of the Shanahan system. After what Rodgers did to them, it makes smart football to make the move. (But the cost long term for the Rams...)

Come on Lare you know how this works. Geoff's agent talks to Rodgers agent. Rodger's agent talks to Russ Ball. Ball relays 'Rams thoughts'. Gute laughs. Laugh is relayed back to Rams though Geoff's agent. End of story with Geoff's agent whispering story to favorite 'sports media' person...
