Pierce played 53 snaps in the slot and 321 on the outside. Watson had just 25 snaps in the slot but had only 195 passing snaps in a run heavy offense. Tolbert played about 1/3 of his snaps in the slot.

I was referencing the draft positions. Should have said spots. They can now bag a WR @ #22 then get an OT,
DT/DE a WR or TE with the remaining picks.

There's room for a Hooper AND a JuJu or Landry for what they had set aside on Adams' cap number. But, then, ARod wouldn't know what to do with a TE if he had 5 on the field at once.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see them blow the whole shebang, but they've got to add pieces.

No surprise here. Take a look at AR's contract. Note that the 46.6M is listed as a Roster Bonus not a signing bonus.

I believe the Packers have been working on this deal for awhile. They (including Rodgers) knew Tae wasn't coming back, and I think that's why it took so long for Rodgers to sign.

There is a plan in place and I can't wait to see it.

Adams gets to be the highest paid receiver in the NFL and Rodgers gets to be the highest paid quarterback in the NFL who avoids looking like the greedy bad guy by refusing to give up some of his contract to keep Adams.
This was in the works all along and if you think that today's professional athletes care about where they play or who they play for ahead of money, well those days are long gone.
I chose to root for the G and not for the individual player.

I'm sure the Packers have been preparing for this for quite a while, so they'll also have a plan to re-sign their own WR's, as well as going through the process of looking at FA's and deciding who will fit the cap, and be best for the team. At this point, they could sign someone for a year or two, win the SB, and then have some salary cap relief as Jordan gets his feet wet playing real games, with the offense designed more to his strengths.

This is an outstanding trade. Davante’s at the age of injuries…and as some of you have said, we’ve won every game he’s missed.
IMO, good WR’s are a dime a dozen—we’ll find a capable replacement.
I also believe (as Colin Cowerd has stated), the most critical pieces of a SB contending team are a great QB and a superior defensive line.

The Wolf man said his two priorities for Championship were a franchise QB and a top D.

A superior D line without stellar LB and DB play is doomed. However, the Pack now has draft capital to go for the best DL or WR or DB or Edge in this draft...and keep playing in the second round.

Anxious to see what the "premium" picks are exactly. This is not a bad move. It's becoming clear what they want to do. They are keeping a vet QB and prioritizing O-line and defense. Maybe we see the actual MLF offense this year?? More run? They likely draft a WR higher now maybe make a shrewd FA signing at WR. They kinda had to do this.

Frankly, anything better than the 3rd round comp next year he would have netted is a win.

The question is whether the Packers are going to hold onto the picks to develop for the future or flip them for 1-year rentals to try to maximize the window this year.

They just got 2 free picks by flipping a player on a tag that said he wouldn't play. They may have gotten more had they dealt Adams last year when he had another year on his contract, but this is a damn good trade.

Now - if Ja can't agree to terms with GB, you have to wonder if they plan on dealing him as well and using the cap space to resign Douglas, find another cheap FA patch, and then either flipping picks for players now or packaging a couple to move up the board.

MVS has been on the market for three days now so maybe his price comes down. MVS and Watson or Pierce out wide would make whoever is in the slot a happy guy.

Wow, just wow. I was worried the Packers would find a way to sign DA and really hamstring themselves for cap purposes. This trade gives the team a chance to re-load and contend. The cap will be an issue going forward, but now there is a way to manage the cap without suffering a total "bitch" slap. I am curious to see what the "premium" picks will be. I am hoping for a 1. That could allow the Pack to take a chance on Jameson Williams or move up for a similar talent.

That said, DA...Thank you for the years of thrills and amazing catches/memories. Do well. I hope to see you in the SB vs the Pack.

The last time I felt so giddy, so nervous, so freakin' excited, so much energy was Prom night.

Hell, who am I kidding...I stayed home watching my poor goldfish swim around in circles during Prom. I did read a few chapters of Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins.

Now though, I have a newfound bounce in my step with this recent news, the beer tastes colder and more inviting to the taste buds. The birds are chirping and all is almost right with the world....

Word is, and none of us know this is true or not, but the brass informed Rodgers prior to his signing that they couldnt keep Adams, he wanted too much money.
Hey in defense of Adams, you go for the gusto on your last contract that will pay you money. Cant fault him for that. His loyalty at 30 is his wallet.
Thanks for the great play Adams, you put on a real show here.
On the other front, the Packers have the ability to get a top receiver in the draft and wow there are a lot of Adams in the first round.

Nah not stupid, yeah he did the right thing with the trade because he was backed into a corner and Adams didn’t want to play( offer more and still didn’t get him).. You can’t tell me he didnt contradict one major move with love( then extending ar) and just lost a receiver that could be good right now( love pick) and then losing Adams.. You can call it hindsight but I knew love wouldn’t be the starter, I just don’t kiss the gms ass like all of you here at chtv..:)

A #1 and a #2. I like it! Davante is a great receiver, but the Packers were a more balanced team when he was out due to Rodgers locking onto him. Great move! Look for some high draft pick WRs this spring along with a veteran or two signing. Signing with the Raiders doesn't hurt us at all. I wish Davante good luck (especially with the Raiders)!

So now the Packers have Two #1s, Two #2s, One 3 and Two 4s (Compensatory pick for Lindsey). A 5,6 and Two 7s. If my math is right that’s 11 picks to maneuver around the board. Not bad. We also now have $20M in available space to sign a free agent. (Should wait for the exact figure but this is what is being reported). Apparently, Davante wanted out. So….paying him like a QB wasn’t the answer.

Yes, it hurts losing Davante but if they draft well and play it right we could be set up for a nice little reboot. I think I’ll wait to see what it looks like when the dust settles.

well the business end of the game just showed itself. Devante Adams is gone, though the team was willing to match the deal, he still ended up a Raider, reunited with Carr. Though the Packers freed up 20m in. cap space and got a one and two in the draft, they also lost arguably the best receiver in the game. Now, keeping him by matching that deal, as much as I love DA, would have been a financial disaster for next year and beyond. now we can look to extending some contracts, bringing back Douglas, and looking to find some good players in the first two rounds and free agency. I wish DeVante the very best....except when when he plays us. GOPACKGO!

Right. They traded a non guaranteed comp pick next year for two high picks this year. The cap space allows the Campbell signing to be finalized. They have some more room if Ja will agree to an extension, or as Andy pointed out, another high pick plus room to resign Douglas with some change if they trade him (Ja).

Not crazy about how all this went down with AR but now that they're in, they may as well burn the ships and figure out how they can maximize the next two years.

He got his coin and it's not wise to pay a WR a QB tab, but as I've stated before, enemy year this year and personal 7 injury prone year beginning on his birthday in '23...good luck fella. Time will tell if he turns into Julio 2.0 on the decline--it can happen quick.

These posts are always fantastic and I appreciate your dedication, but Adams is probably better compared to Larry Fitzgerald than Julio. Not the biggest or fastest or most physical, but surgically precise with routes and disciplined enough to telegraph NOTHING to receivers. He will be able to play at a high level for as long as he can keep pulling off the stutter steps, stop/breaks, etc., even if he isn't as quick doing them.

Having said that, one area where the LF comparison falls apart is blocking. Fitzgerald was an absolute workman of a receiver as he got deeper into his playing career and was a very willing and physical downfield blocker.

Too much negativity on this site. I am thinking that it was a great move. I am thinking that Adams deserves to be the highest paid player. I am happy that AR cannot focus on getting him the ball ( remember we won the games when he was out). And maybe we will get to be the more balanced team that we need to be, and now we can focus on getting some other possession receivers including signing another better tight end and somebody who can run the jet sweeps or receiver screens. Plus we will not be spending all of the money in 2 pots - just the most important pot.

Sigh of relief....Now we've got some flexibility. Davante has been a great Packer, though, and his skills and professionalism will be missed. Still, it should be less of problem now for Rodgers to get the ball to the open man come crunch time in the playoffs.

Wow, the passing game is going to look quite a bit different with Adams gone and MVS apparently drawing interest from multiple teams. Excellent WR prospects aplenty in the upcoming draft, but which veterans are going to make sense for the Packers? And how are MLF and Vrable going to deploy all these new moving parts?

We're certainly looking at some pretty good compensation in any case. I'm wondering how long it will take Rodgers to develop his 'magic' trust factor with whomever we have catching the ball the next season. Maybe his contract will be up by the time that happens. The NFL is all about TV money and gambling anymore anyway. Little else matters.

Amazing. Adams tagged and declares he will not play for a measly $20 Mil. That tag wipes a huge salary and cap hit away while netting another #1 and #2.

Gutey is planning for the draft now. He will be a major player moving up, moving down, or staying put in a draft rich with prospects the Packers need on their team.

Yeah, would be nice to get Z back...and maybe he refused the Raven offer because he got a "heads up" to sit tight for now...but seriously, the Pack can now target the top talent in the draft to make them better with players on rookie deals.

I personally would like to see trade downs with one of the 1st and one of the seconds. Accumulate Day two pics where talent the Pack needs await.

If GB truly matched the Raider's offer, I don't understand why the franchise tag doesn't force DA to accept GB's offer. Was it simply because DA preferred to leave and GB was content with the two premium picks in this year's draft?

I'd guess one of those two #2s will be used on TE Trey McBride. I'd happily give up the other #2 for WR Chase Claypool.

The two #1s could be spent on an OT and DT or Edge.

I'm happy GBP avoided cap hell. In fact, I was hugely disappointed they didn't take the R Wilson trade from Denver for Rodgers. Knowing they were losing their HOF WR, I guess they didn't want to lose their HOF QB as well.

I saw it written that GB could possibly get two #2s for Jordan Love. Maybe Indy or Pitt would want Love in a trade. If the price is right why not? I can't see Love being willing to sit on the bench for 5 or 6 years. We'd lose him to FA after year 4.

Big night!

I remember when Sterling Sharpe's career was prematurely ended by a neck injury in 1994. Up to that time the Packers' offense was mostly Favre throwing to Sharpe. It looked like the Pack was going to be in real trouble with no other receivers in sight.

But youngsters Robert Brooks and Antonio Freeman and Mark Chmura stepped in and up. They added Don Beebe, Keith Jackson and Andre Rison in free agency. They increased stress on the running game with Edgar Bennett and Dorsey Levens.

Their first year without Sharpe they won 11 games, highest in Green Bay in 29 years then. The next year they took the Super Bowl. They actually became a better team with balance and depth succeeding focus on just one player; albeit a great one.

Hope history repeats.

Favre to Sharpe is the perfect comparison to Rodgers to Adams, and this is the ideal template for what the Packers could do.

I even think that, as counterintuitive as it seems, Rodgers could be even more lethal not being so preoccupied with one receiver. Surely that might have helped us in that recent playoff disaster.

Rodgers certainly has the talent, skills, experience, and field awareness to adjust to a new group of receivers. That's why we are about to pay top dollar to the reigning two time MVP.

If the FO was willing to match the Raiders offer, then they should be charged with financial incompetence. Please no "genius" labels for Gutekunst and company. They just got lucky thanks to DA.

The thing is, GB had multiple guys who are the best at their position. This always correlates to being paid the most if and when the timing aligns.

Think about that for a minute: there are only 22 positions and GB had the best player at 4 of them: QB, LT, WR, CB.

This is insanely good for us! I love Adams but a #1 and #2 are pure gold, and we clear a huge amount of cap space. The fact that Rodgers knew about it before is also huge. It means no pouting by #12. The draft is supposed to be loaded with recievers so maybe we can snag one cheap. I'm in the camp that feels receivers are overrated commodities and I'm sure Rodgers can and will develop chemistry with his new arsenal. Look at all the guys Favre and Rodgers threw to over the years, hardly ever missing a beat. It's probably good that #12 won't be so locked in on one guy too.

I have to say that, like many other Packer fans, I wanted to move on from the Rodgers era, but I do acknowledge that with his recent maneuvering Gute has put us in a position to at least be competitive for the Super Bowl for a few more years.

With an aging Veteran $150 Million QB, I would value Tackle and protection over "weapons" any day. Run the ball. If Rodgers is indeed the elite the QB most believe him to be, he should be able to move the ball without superstar WRs. Cheap vets and young talent should be enough with elite protection and a solid run game. Brady had a 5 foot nothing guy named Julien Edelman as his #1 WR.....Protection should be priority 1.

Wow. How about Landry or Beasley? The latter and QB1 could philosophize about the world…

This is a very good move for the Packers. Hate to lose Adams but his price was too high, the Packers need the cap space and they now have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds.

Plus Rodgers was aware the Packers were trading Adams so he will be fine with it.

This move should change everything. We have a great QB with experience to run the MLF offense. We can draft some speed at WR and we can focus on defense by signing Douglas and extending Jaire. Plus we can draft a DL and an Edge with 2 WRs in rounds 1 and 2.

This creates the opportunity to build a solid roster for Rodgers to work with during his final seasons in Green Bay.

This move significantly improved our chances to finally reach another SB with Rodgers. Great news for the Packers.
Thanks, Since ‘61

NOW we are going 1st round WR in draft. Problem is...everyone knows it. The Pack have always been better when the ball is spread around rather than forcing to a safety blanket. And I've never been a believer in the WR take that they need a couple years to start. BS. That's a BS excuse of the Packers for years on all positions, but especially WR. They have started rookies at many positions. Other teams seem to start WR's in their first year. But somehow the Packers can't??? I think it has to do more with Rodgers than anything else. Ya know, the " trust" issue. Now he will have no choice. Throw the damn ball to the open receiver. Win.

So, how about a draft to shake up the Packer faithful and team. Probably won't happen this way, but one can dream.

1st (28)- WR Johan Dotson (slot)
2nd (53) - WR Christian Watson (stretch)
3rd - TE Jeremy Ruckert

also mix in defense;
1st (22) - S Dax Hill
2nd (59) - DT Phidarian Mathis

OL in mid rounds. Sign a veteran Edge.

That'll get 'em goin' - Herb Brooks

Likely a premium position, Pass Rusher or Tackle or both.

They need to bolster the lines. The run game won’t go and Rodgers will be running for his life if they don’t. Maybe Amari Rodgers will be ready to contribute as well. One thing to keep in mind is that receivers rarely contribute much in year 1. It doesn’t mean don’t use a high pick on one, just seems like its easier to miss on receivers than it is to miss on an OL or Edge rusher.

Hate to break it to you, but theyre still probly not going receiver in the 1st. Maybe they trade down with the #28 then go receiver, but theyre not going to just throw draft picks at the position cuz its a need. They will take a receiver when it makes sense to.

Packers will not win another SB without the best WR in the NFL. It was the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen GB do. It’s actually comical

It certainly creates a challenging situation, but please tell me the last time the team that won the super bowl had the best receiver in football outside of the Rams this year. It could be argued that Kupp> Adams.

Did you read the reports that GB offered as much or more money than the Raiders did? Did you hear that Davante's people said Adam's rejected the Packers simply because it was always his dream to play for the Raiders?

If this is the "dumbest thing you've ever seen GB do," please tell us the "smarter thing" that you would have done.

I like the trade with preference going to the Packers.
1) The cap savings is huge and allows Packers to keep defensive continuity with Douglas and De'Vondre Campbell signings and offensive continuity with the possibility of keeping Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown, and possibly Robert Tonyan. Rodgers needs to get back to distributing the ball to multiple receivers. There's plenty of offensive skill players that can catch the ball and constantly looking to feed Davante the ball hurt Rodger's play in the playoffs the past two seasons.
2) The history of wide receivers making huge impacts after free agency signings is littered with overpaid and unproductive talent. The 29-year-old, Davante Adams will be fed the rock, justifying his huge salary, and without Lazard and MVS blocking downfield won't find coming close to his 2021numbers, 16 out of 16 games played,123 receptions for1,553 yards at an average of 12.63 yards per receptions with 11 touchdowns. Plus, Derek Carr is not the field general Aaron Rodgers is. I could be wrong but how long will Adams production match his salary and cap position.
3) One player doesn't make a team except when considering quarterback. Rodgers said he wanted to keep Adams if he stayed in Green Bay, but Rodgers isn't stupid. Rodgers got his security, money, and continuity and if Adams was offered the same money to stay in Green Bay choosing to take the warmer weather of Los Vegas, so be it and good luck. The 1st and 2nd round picks along with keeping the Packers own picks now provide the means to move within the draft obtaining no less than two if not more quality players.
Moving on from skill players earlier than later is an age-old practice to stay young and balanced. By thinking of the impact of moving on from aging players, the management of the Packers helps to maintain the overall health of the organization. As Ted Thompson was known to say and practice, "Football is a young mans sport."

I'm here to help, buddy! LOL.

Remember all the geniuses who wanted to let Davante walk without tagging him? I guess they wanted to throw away the first and second round picks that come from the trade?

Good move. May make AR more effective by not locking in and spreading the ball around. Would have liked it more if the deal included Hunter Renfrow instead of a 2nd rounder though. Does this open a door for Jarvis Landry now?

I dunno, a month ago we were all saying the Pack can't win a Super Bowl with Aaron at the helm. So many failed runs that petered out. Who's to say Davante isn't convinced of the same?

Get rid of Cobb and Rodgers might not throw a pass all season. He needs a year to develop “trust.”

Rogers, and therefore the Packers offence, just got better with this trade. It has been my belief all along that Rogers plays better and spreads the ball around much better without Devante in the lineup.... this was apparent two seasons ago when Devante missed a significant amount of playing time.

So I'm thinking this opens tings up for signing MVS. Rodgers did express the value he place son MVS.
