Packers Question of the Day: Takeaways From the Win

The Packers won Thursday night, and they did it in big fashion.

It took four touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers and four turnovers by the Packers defense, but they managed to get the job done and earn their first division win of the 2017 season and also moved ahead of the Bears in the all-time series with their 95th win. The first time doing so since 1932.

What were your takeaways from the victory?

Clay is back , can't wait for Daniels to return and wouldn't be great if Biegel comes out like a playmaker.

Mathews has been great so far.

Get Perry healthier. Getting Daniels back. Getting Brooks more acclimated to the defense.
Then add in guys like Adams and Biegel could give us a big edge come late in the year.

We may have found another RB in Aaron Jones. When Cobb is healthy he remains a key to making the Packers offense go. He quietly made some big plays in last night's game. MM and Campen made the right choices about their patchwork OL and it held up very well for most of the game.

Packers defense played well again last night. Unlike previous seasons they are removing weaknesses like Randall and giving their backups a chance to make plays which Hawkins did last night. King, J. Jones, Brooks and now Hawkins are all making an impact on the Packers defense. It was great to see both Jones and Martinez return to the game and be effective.

Even when our starting OTs return we need to continue to run the quick passing game. It helps Rodgers establish a rhythm and keeps him clean at the same time. Hope we're healthy in time for Dallas. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

Hawkins was on the receiver, so I give him that. He was at least close.
He did have at least 2 PI calls they didn't make, so he got the home field advantage on those. In the future he won't be so lucky.
He needs some work on his technique, and getting his head and body turned when the balls in the air.
I see speed, but lack of technique. Exactly the opposite of Gunter.

Hawkins for sure had 1 PI that wasn't called. The one he jumped on the guys back. The other one? I am not sure which one your talking about.

I think the more he plays the better he will be. Just needs experience.

I like Hawkins though.

Interference on the end zone play, or close to it, was borderline. In the old days they would call ANY contact with the receiver when the ball was in the air as INT.
He had his arms and body on the receiver, with his head 1/2 turned.
It was very close, and I was looking for the flag.
I was surprised it wasn't called.

At least Hawkins is close enough to the reciever to get PI called. Randall is so far away from the reciever that PI is impossible.

Cobb made a hell of a nice one handed catch.

Hawkins I thought played really well. I loved seeing his tackling. Nice to see CB's tackle.

Great win with some more unfortunate injuries.

I honestly thought they would win kind of an ugly game. In fact they won pretty easily.

First I have to say that the OL did a great job considering. Taylor to move to LT with a couple of days is very impressive.
I really like Montgomery as a RB. Williams though really hasn't done much. Jones is by far their 2nd best RB right now. He might be their best pure RB. He has the quickness and speed, to go with great vision and power.
I am looking forward to seeing more of Jones. I think he will add a lot to the offense.

The defense played great. They gave up 100 yards rushing to the Bears but on 30 carries. Jordan Howard averaged 2.9 yards per carry. Take away his long run of 16 yards and he averaged 2.1 yards per carry. They did a great job. It was great seeing the 3 DL on the field too.

I hope Trevathan enjoys his fine he is going to get and his suspension. He should have been ejected for that cheap shot.

My take was pre game. Guys arm an arm with solidarity and for what? It sure as hell wasnt for the fans or the country.
Win or not win I think I saw a lot of, we could care less attitude. They can say what they want in front of the camera, when push comes to shove they love themselves.

NFL owners against Trump. Money vs money. The NFL, the fans, nobody gave a shit until the 'Shield' was attacked. As somebody who doesn't strongly identify with the concept of nationality, the whole thing is completely bizarre.

Green Bay won an emotional game against a rival. With all of their injuries, 4-guards and a center for an offensive line, Monty going out early.....it was great.

Everything else should be forgotten. The Packers scored on short fields due to the Bears incompetence. Interceptions thrown straight into the arms of DBs just doesn't mean you were covering the wideout (which they didn't). We have seen these types of games before and you almost want to throw out the film and get some players back for the next 4 games. What I saw was a team that gave up winning the game in the 4th qtr. by running the ball instead of at least trying to pass. 29 other NFL teams won't do that so the win didn't tell you how to build any blueprint for future games. If House doesn't come back soon, that pass defense will be scary in a bad way.

Now saying all of that negative stuff, here is what was very good....the young Oline guys are getting great experience and will improve if they have to play extended time. Green Bay showed a ton of mental toughness in how they played that game. Jones and Mays will prove to everyone that Green Bay still has a running attack. Last but not least, the injured get another long week to heal and get better.

I agree with your 2nd paragraph completely.
Those INT's were horribly thrown passes that were gifts.
They were more of an awful play by the QB, than an above average or great play by the safety.
You won't get gifts like that against Dallas and MN.
They still have a big weakness with intermediate crossing routes, so there's some sort of problem with the scheme or just players communicating and knowing who's covering who.

- NFL Refs get worse every year

- Hawkins has already defended more passes than Randall, me thinks

- More Jones at rb, please

- LT makes an ok LT

- HaHa continues his streak of right place right time ints

- Prayers to Davante's recovery

- Even God hates Thursday night football

(- NFL Refs get worse every year)

Yes they do.
There were 3 things from last night that really bothered me from the refs.

First they threw a holding penalty on McCray which was horrible. He didn't hold at all... Which that negated the TD to Adams.

On the very next play is the play that Adams takes the ugly cheap shot. If the refs don't throw the flag on McCray that play never happens.
Then they at least threw a flag on the play, but Trevathan should have been ejected from the game.

The final play that the refs pissed me off was when the Bears went to block the punt on Vogel, run right into him. Then they say the Bears tipped the ball. They weren't close to it. How they missed that was pathetic.

I'm not sure. I heard there were reports it happened on his first carry of the game. I am not sure.
At the time I thought that hit looked questionable. I don't remember it exactly though.

Well I like Josh Hawkins and his speed, I thought he battled well. I am now really beginning to believe the Randall/Rollins experiment has been a failure but even the best front offices have draft busts. The xraft is truly a crap shoot now. I actually Hawkins in the slot and when House is healthy, he and King working the outside. My feeling is this, rookies all screw up and they are always a work in progress so you cannot be judged on that season. In year e there should be growth, and understanding of situations, seeing lots of growth from Martinez. Randall and Rollins are now healthy in year 3 and still looked lost. They are out of excuses. I actually defenses these guys last year. I have seen zero development or growth and Randall which is disappointing. He left he bench after he was benched, my thinking is he was told to but if Not, he should be released. No time for that crap.

My takeaway is that the B*#rs are way worse than you all led me to believe. I do not watch the NFL other than the Packers and I don't play fantasy football so I don't usually look up how a team is doing until the week before they play the Pack. This week all the takes were that this was going to be a tough battle and that the evil team from down south of Wisconsin had tough O and D lines and was going to battle. The Packers played them with guards at tackle, safeties playing linebacker and one running back left on the roster and boat raced them. The B*#rs looked incompetent and very without teeth. They would have had to play a perfect game to stay close.

Nice win under difficult circumstances. Rest is needed with two tough road games coming up. A split would be nice before our next home game against the Saints.

My takeaway is that GB will not be 'healthy' for the rest of the season. I am convinced the roster will be a continuous carousel for the next 12-16 weeks, and that this talk of 'when we get healthy' is a mythical unicorn.

Bahk will eventually go in for Taylor who's in for Murphy who was in for...Bahk. Ryan, Thomas, and Martinez: pick any random two being active on any given week. With Cobb, Jordy, Adams, and Allison you could have only two of them play one game and all four the next. Perry is on again, off again. CM3's annual hamstring injury has yet to arrive, but we know it's coming. RB, secondary...same pattern.

The good part about this is the guys filling in have been decent. I still think we go 12-4 with a bye, but that's largely due to younger players stepping up, not roster continuity.

Hawkins in better than Randall. Unfortunately draft status outweighs the eye test until the bitter end and looks like the coaches reached the bitter end last night.

Ha Ha can't tackle!! He just throws his back at people and doesn't even see what he's hitting. I knew he would be gift wrapped an over throw INT by Doug Funny but reality is he is always late to the ball and lacks instincts. Joe Thomas bailed him out on that deep ball in the first half that was there for the picking.

I would not mind a cutting of Randall. Especially since I heard he was not on the sideline in the second half after being benched and not in the locker room after the game. That's not Ted football and not a team player thing to do. Eat the mistake and move on, Ted. Hawkins and Pipkins time to develop.

Love it when Mashed Potato Mike comes out with a game plan that has the opposition off balance most of the night. Good execution of said plan by the makeshift O-line as well.

Another takeaway is that this crappy bears team is not good so they have to resort to being dirty. Pay back in the rivalry for the Forrest Gregg days... Cheap jerks still suck!

Just heard that Ian Rappaport reported a fight/argument on the sidelines between coach and Randall after he was benched, and he was sent to the locker room. He got in his car and left the stadium, not there for the entire 2nd half.

I'd say old 23 is gone from the Packers within the next few days. This guy got the complete zap put on his brain, and he's completely lost it mentally. Talk about a wasted draft choice, when they certainly could have used someone productive at that point, with top draft talent so scarce with the position they draft year after year.

Nic pic at the level of competition but this Packers defense has been doing pretty good so far. You're really seeing them fly to the ball out there and to come up with 4 TO is big. This unit is going to be an even bigger force when everyone comes back. As of right now they are 8 against the pass, 8th in 3rd down percentage allowing only 36% conversion, and 8th in total defense, 18th against the run but that will tighten up when Daniels and Perry comeback. A good test again coming up with Zeke and the Cowboys

That people were giving Ty too much crap. Not even the "Play Aaron Jones" fans can say much. He did -not- in any way/shape/form outperform or show he could outperform what Ty does in the run game, not to mention the matchups in the passing game Ty offers.

That said. Aaron Jones is serviceable, but the yards per carry everyone complained about is a product of a banged up line and facing good defensive fronts more-so than Ty "not being a running back"

10 days, get healthy, see what happens.

My takeaways:
- Offense played good enough, didn't make many mistakes and took advantage of the turnovers.
- Defense played well.
- I think they found some players in the secondary. Randall looked terrible when giving up that touchdown. Glad they put in Hawkins and he played well enough. So when House returns, House and King at the corners and Hawkins for backup or slot. Dix, Bryce, Jones and Burnett playing safety, nitro LB and or slot. With the four safeties playing with King and Hawkins, I thought those six were the best lineup thus far this year. The best players playing.
- The secondary comment was a thought I had all preseason. Randall and Rollins have not rebounded. I again suggest bringing in a veteran DB for backup. I do not want Randall and Rollins playing when post season time comes around. We will not win with them.
