Packers place Sammy Watkins on active/non-football injury list
Rough start for the veteran wide receiver in Green Bay.

This is...suboptimal.
The #Packers placed WR Sammy Watkins on the active/non-football injury list.

According to the league, players who report to training camp injured or ill due to injuries or illnesses sustained outside of NFL practices or games can be placed on the active/non-football injury or active/non-football illness lists while they recover. A player cannot remain on an NFI list if they participate in a practice or game during the preseason.
Players on these lists still count towards the 90-man roster limits prior to the start of the regular season. If a player on the active/NFI list is still injured or ill by the final roster cutdown date, they can be placed on the reserve/non-football injury or reserve/non-football illness lists and not count towards the 53-man roster limit.
UPDATE:
While Packers WR Sammy Watkins will start camp on the non-football injury (NFI) list, there’s no cause for long-term concern. At this point, the expectation is that he will return sooner rather than later.

First Watson and now Watkins, two players that needed to spend time with Rodgers the most as they are both new and haven't had any reps with him yet. Not off to a great start, but lets hope this is short lived and we don't resort to what's left of the washed up FA WR's as replacements.

Miss the days where players would knock the Snot out of one another and players like Jack Youngblood played in SB with a broken leg. While not all too many of today's players will play if they have a hang nail.

Well Said
Even closer to Home I recall during the later part of the
1993 Season when Sterling Sharpe spent more time
rehabbing an injured toe than at practice but that did
not stop him for courageously playing specially in that
memorable Playoff victory over the Lions when he caught
two TD passes including the Game Winner

bad sign for Watkins. "He is what we thought he was".

Bak, then Watson, now Watkins. Who bites the dust next? We're off to a flying stop so far. Thanks, Since '61

Point is why Covid, illness self, death in family etc? Not a good start and poor report. Leave alarms w/o known fire!

And the Bucs signed Julio Jones, though it was reported that the Packers showed interest as well. Watkins vs. Jones should make for an interesting comparison throughout the season. But hey, we just did sign a 6'5" receiver from the USFL, so we've beat the Jones signing by a couple of inches.

And so it begins. This is why you should never get excited about "injury guys." You already know the story.

I think I'll rely on Gut for this one. He knew what he was getting wouldn't hurt much on the cheap. Needed another vet in the room. Maybe Julio was way too expensive or had a different kind of injury history with his age.

I doubted Watkins would make the team when we signed him. I'm glad we didn't sign Julio. I expect Cobb to be hurt most of the year as well. This is the story with older players who have injury histories.
I'd be more excited about a vet minimum deal for Fuller. At least he's still younger.

I'm wondering if COVID might be the issue with Watson and Watkins? Pure speculation but no one seems overly concerned about both players returning soon.

Just saw that Watson had a procedure done from something that happened at OTAs. Gute said they could have waited till after the season but, they decided to do it. "Nothing serious". Sounds worrisome to me.

Exactly. Bak got injured during practice and see how that turned out. ARod being hassled left and right in consecutive years' playoff games where we needed him most. Fingers crossed...

Good! Get the injury’s over with BEFORE the season!
