Packers place Allen Lazard on Covid-19 reserve list

The Packers will travel to Arizona with a limited receiving corps on Thursday night.

The Packers announced earlier today that they have placed wide receiver Allen Lazard on the Covid-19 reserve list.

The move leaves the team with Randall Cobb, Equanimeous St. Brown, Amari Rodgers and Malik Taylor (who was himself activated off the Covid list just today) available at receiver on the active roster after Davante Adams was placed on the list yesterday.

There's a good chance the team will elevate Juwann Winfree from the practice squad for Thursday's game.

Wouldn't it be "something" if both Adams and Lazard both were able to GO due to false positive test results? Just saying......

People would be apoplectic screaming "head-fake" but us packer fans would just be smiling quietly.

Well, this is suck.
The recent wins are encouraging and I think the Cards' game is winnable, but all these injuries are bound to catch up with the team. Now it's covid....
GB has moved to +6.5 or so with the oddsmakers (from +3.5 a few days ago), and I am afraid this one will be one of the Pack's probably five losses this year.

(BTW, I am not a betting man so if I understand it +6.5 means the betting flows evenly between the two teams if taking GB comes with 6-1/2 points.)

I'm not sure if it matters whether you're vaccinated or not as far as getting COVID, or spreading it.
I'm not sure if anything the government tells us is true; I tend to think just about everything said by the current regime is probably a lie.
Perhaps some are much more trusting of our politicians. Have they earned it, or is it just unblinking acceptance?

Apparently it does matter because I believe since Lazard was not vaccinated and he was deemed in proximity of Adam's he AUTOMATICALLY has to isolate for 5 days even if HE DOES NOT TEST POSITIVE!

I am a huge Lazard fan but IMO he has really let his team and fans down by not vaccinating based on what I wrote above should it be true. Wonder if we ever find out if he truly tests positive?

It only matters because of politics, not public health. The rules are arbitrary. It's ideology over epidemiology.
It seems as though in general the official line about COVID is bats.
Lazard hasn't let anyone down if he has rejected an experimental substance being injected into his body -- especially because the cure may be more hazardous to him than the disease. (My best understanding is that there are more than 16,000 deaths from the shot.)
Don't we want our children to stand up to peer pressure. Maybe we should look at ourselves, first.

My wife is a bacteriologist with education in virology. You are incredibly wrong in your opinions about covid, epidemiology, and the vaccine being "experimental" (if you're objecting to Moderna and Pfizer using mRNA, then you should be on-board with J&J, which uses more traditional methodology).

As of January, 2021, there have been only 55 deaths from the vaccine; there were about 600,000 deaths from the virus at that time. You have a better chance of winning PowerBall AND getting struck by lightning at the same time than dying from the vaccine.

If a shot has only been around for a year, it's experimental. There's no way to know the long-term effects. Also, there doesn't seem to be a reliable reporting system to accurately understand the short-term effects.
I would guess your wife does not trust Big Pharma. My understanding is that these companies don't have any financial liability if the shot goes bad, and so make a ton of money regardless.
Has the mainstream media ever had a fair story about why some healthcare workers are refusing the shot? What are they seeing on the front lines? I read such an article today in the underground press, in this case the Epoch Times.
The thing about the current regime is that it has lied so very many times. If it ever told the truth, I wouldn't know when to believe it.
We were relentlessly told that our former president was a Russian agent, but it was all a big lie; now we're told there's no need to investigate the current president for possible foreign entanglements, even with all the evidence on his son's laptop. Also, that son made something like $80,000 per month for being on the board of an energy company in the Ukraine, and his father as vice-president suspiciously had a prosecutor in that country fired. Why? Where's the special counsel?
Plus, isn't this the same regime that is allowing immigrants into America by the thousands -- all over the country -- without requiring them to get a shot?
It vilifies average Americans for not taking the shot, but seems to give China a pass as apparently the intentional spreader of COVID around the world (when it shut down its domestic flights but allowed international flights). Isn't that biological warfare, with a death toll just in America in the hundreds of thousands?
Oh yeah, and boys are allowed to use the girls restroom if they wear a dress. That's telling the truth about gender? That's reality? I'm supposed to trust these people?
The lies of the current regime seem endless, at least daily. The adverse effects are infecting even sports.

At this point the Packers are being very conservative with MVS at this point. MVS played with high ankle in his second year when the WR room was down to just three at the end of MLF first year. With how important he is to the offense, it makes sense to give him as much time to heal as possible.

I was under the impression that Devin Funchess was a free agent and was eligible to re-sign with the Packers after 6 weeks?

Why would the Packers want Funchess after they released him with an injury settlement? He hasn't played in almost 3 years other than training camp. Even if the Packers wanted him and signed him, he would not play for 2-3 weeks. He would need to get practice time, and the team has Malik Taylor who was activated today and Winfree who will be called up on Thursday. Packers have moved on from him and the other 31 teams are not interested.

I don't disagree, but there are things we don't know.

We don't know if Funchess is currently healthy. He went on IR with a lingering hamstring injury. One would think it healed by now but sometimes there are setbacks. I can't find any articles suggesting he has worked out for any teams (perhaps because he can't or perhaps because teams aren't beating down his door).

We don't know how many weeks his injury settlement payment was for. If it was 5 weeks, GB can't re-sign him for 5 + 3 weeks, so not in time for the AZ game. MVS injured his hamstring on September 26, for example.

If Funchess is healthy, I wonder if he would sign with a practice squad or whether he thinks he could be signed to a 53? Anyway, no sign of either. If healthy, I'd sign Funchess to a PS contract without hesitation: after all, the PS is now a whopping 16 players. This is a guy who needs to get on the field in 2021 since he hasn't really played in a long time, as you point out.

Although it would be nice to have either Lazard or Adams (or MVS) available on Thursday (preferably two out of three, but at least one), I'm excited to see other receivers get an opportunity.
Again, it would be better if there weren't so many newer receivers going at the same time, but it's also an intriguing challenge to be embraced.
***
With all the circumstances surrounding this game, including a short week and being on the road, I'd still go all out for the win -- but in a different way.
I'd try more new things along with the new players. Maybe really go with the running game, including the jet sweep. Maybe explore more of the possibilities of the short passing game. Maybe take a couple of deep shots, too. Maybe a trick play or two as the icing on the cake.
On defense, mix up the zone and man-to-man, mix up having a spy on Kyler Murray and not having a spy, mix up the number of rushers (although never three, or about as often as it snows in Phoenix) with blitzers coming from various directions.
Again, go all out for the win, but do so taking risks that wouldn't be appropriate in a playoff game, or even most regular season games. I'm a little bit okay with a loss on Thursday. Be freer and more creative, but still do so with a determination to win.
Trying some experiments on Thursday could really help us for the rest of the season -- and I wouldn't be surprised if we came out on top, anyway.

I agree Swisch!

However, the biggest surprise and new thing the Packers could do to catch Arizona off guard would be to start and play Love! :)

I know most people's sentiment regarding ESB and I get it, however I have never lost faith that he has a lot of talent. I'm hoping he gets to prove his talent to all of us Thursday.

Peace!

In all seriousness when you think about it should the Pack be undermanned and lose this would be the best game to lose. Yes, I know there could be an issue down the road with a tie breaker, but it is against the best team in the NFL at the moment on a short week. Lots of injured players coming back the week after Arizona and team will be a force.

I thought about starting Love, and it may be a good idea.
However, I think we need Rodgers to help bring out the best in all of the other new guys. I'm concerned about too much disarray. Also, with Rodgers we have a much better opportunity of pulling this game out for a victory.
The main thing with Rodgers is to keep him well protected. Running the ball and quick passes will help that cause.
Peace to you Knock! Good talking with you, so to speak.

Not being fatalistic about the Packers chances here, but if they have to front a cobbled WR group and it ends up a beat-down,Like KnockTheSnotOutOfYou said, do they throw Love in for the 4th quarter (or more - depending on the score at half time)?

With a minibye 10 day break after this one maybe they will use increased reps of Dillon and Jones both in at the same time. A lot of multiple tight end formations. When it is 3 receivers out there it is Cobb in the slot, Winfree and EQ out wide? Amari? I guess a lot depends on MVS ability to be out there.
