Packers Periscope Week 4 vs Philadelphia Eagles

The Packers know a little something about not living about up to expectations, just look at their last two seasons. The Eagles are going through something similar right now with a 1-2 start and back to back losses to the Lions and Falcons. Both were teams that failed to reach the playoffs last season. Tonight, a banged-up Philadelphia squad will try to get their season back on track with a road win in primetime at Lambeau.

The last time the Eagles faced the Packers it was the start of something special. Aaron Rodgers began his run the table tour in 2016 by shredding the Philadelphia secondary for 313 yards and two touchdowns. During that game, the offensive front did a good job of keeping Rodgers clean. He was not sacked a single time and was subject to only one quarterback hit. Davante Adams also played a huge role in this game going for 113 yards and catching both touchdowns.

Much like the game from 2016, Green Bay’s offensive line did a great job last week keeping Rodgers upright. Even with Von Miller and Bradley Chubb screaming off the edges, Rodgers did not take a sack and again just one hit on the quarterback.

“I’ve been at this a long time and to go home with my body feeling this good is a credit to the offensive line for sure,” said Rodgers following the game.

The offensive line has probably been the brightest part of the Packers offense this far, however, it is the defense that has carried them to 3-0. Green Bay leads the NFL with eight takeaways and a large reason for that has been the pass rush. The two Smiths, Za’Darius and Preston, have impressed beyond belief thus far combining for 7.5 sacks. That has allowed the secondary to thrive but they haven’t gone up against a quarterback like Carson Wentz this season.

Wentz is dealing with an ailing receiving corps but he has still managed to put up some solid numbers. On the other hand, he has yet to face a secondary playing as well as the Packers right now. If he has any hope of staying upright and settling into a rhythm, it may be because Za’Darius will have to sit out. He was listed as questionable on Wednesday’s injury report.

Green Bay’s offense needs to continue to push the envelope in week four, whether it be taking more chances downfield or throwing more on early downs. On Monday, Matt LaFleur noted how their Achilles heel have been third downs. Sitting at a 25 percent conversion rate, the Packers are almost at the bottom of the league on third down and something has to change. To this point, Rodgers has also been vocally displeased with offense’s performance and it could come down to a breakout game from him to get things going for everyone else.

For once, the Packers are on the other end of the injury spectrum which is a nice change of pace but the Eagles are backed into a corner and the only way out is a momentous win. This Philadelphia team is still dangerous.

All signs point to us having a breakout game at home and I'm trying to think like NP, but I'm very nervous about this game. I'd be freaking out more if we weren't 3 -0, but Philly is a dangerous team. And a desperate wounded team which makes them even more dangerous. And Pederson is a great coach.

Fingers crossed to go to 4- 0 and in a resounding manner. GPG!

Our LB corps, especially the OLBs are having injury issues. Burks, Z. Smith and Fackrell all out or questionable. Kind of thin out there right now. With M. Adams out, we have 3 starters missing or ailing on D right now. I think that levels the playing field tonight more than some might expect.

Hoping for a breakthrough, or at least a boost, from Vitale, Shepherd and/or Tonyan.

Given philly's injuries in the secondary, I'm expecting it'll be the Davante show all night

Hope Davante gets 5-10 catches, but that there's a lot of good plays to go around.

I'd love to see Rodgers start spreading the ball around a lot more. Seems like he thinks there are only two people to throw the ball to most times (Adams and MVS). What happened to just launching the ball at the open receiver?

BTW, it's Packers win, 28-22. (Pederson will call some trickeration at some point.)

This isn’t the game to fool around the Eagles have been the opposite of the Packers on offense they start slow, get themselves in a hole and comeback late to make it a came. While the Packers have started quick and faded late in games. If there’s going to be a game to jump on an opponent and keep your foot on their neck this is it.

Would like to see GB have more success running clock on key drives to give the defense some rest. Quick 3 and outs are jet fuel for those comebacks

Z. Smith expected to play tonight according to NFL Network. But still expect to see a lot more of Rashan Gary, because that is just the way LaFleur seems to be- split carries in the backfield, limit the amount of times Rodgers runs (has he run this season?), don't overstress anyone.

A very dangerous opponent. I don’t follow them but the highlights seem to infer that they are two dropped TD passes from being 3-0. I think this game goes down to the last possession and I hope it’s us with Rodgers pulling a rabbit out of his hat, as usual

I don't think GB is getting soft over a 3-0 start. However, if Philly is as good as people thought coming into the year, we may not be anticipating the urgency that they play with tonight. As pointed out by Greenberg this morning, 14% of 1-3 teams make the playoffs. Philly has a brutal 8 game stretch and they can't start this with a loss.

GB needs to come ready for a fight, even if they are missing some of their key weapons.

I've learned my lesson on prognastication...pragnosticating...making predictions. Apparently I have been overly optimistic about our offense. Not this time. Once again, I have analyzed the statistics, watched the film on both teams, and fed the data into my patented algorithm. Pack rolls, 30-0.
