Packers Look to Continue Winning Ways in Arizona

Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs had two receiving touchdowns last year against the Cardinals.

Entering their Week 7 matchup, the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals are in almost identical positions as they were in their 2024 Week 6 meeting.

In 2024, the Packers put together one of their most impressive performances of the season, a 34-13 win, which included Jordan Love’s second-career four-touchdown game.

Heading into the 2024 contest, the Cardinals were 2-3 and the Packers were 3-2. Going into this year’s game, the Cardinals are 2-4, losers of four straight, and the Packers are 3-1-1.

How both teams have done in 2025 has summed up what most of the NFL has experienced this season. The Cardinals enter the game losers of four straight, but the total of the four losses is just eight points. Their losses are by 1 (San Francisco), 3 (Seattle), 1 (Tennessee) and 4 points (Indianapolis).

Meanwhile, the Packers are a few special teams mistakes from likely being 5-0 and the lone undefeated team left in the NFL. Instead they have their first tie since 2018 and are currently the NFC’s No. 2 seed, behind the 5-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A year ago, the Packers entered their game with Arizona fresh off an important road win against the Los Angeles Rams.

In the 34-13 win a year ago, Jordan Love had one of his best career games. He had four touchdowns in two straight home games (including the Minnesota game from Week 4 of last season. He connected with Romeo Doubs for two touchdowns (in his first game back from a one-game suspension).

Love and Christian Watson also connected on a beautiful play-action, long touchdown pass, which would be the last touchdown catch of Watson’s career. A return of No. 9 this weekend would be a welcome sight, as his speed along with the speed of rookie Matthew Golden would be very tough for defenses to handle.

The recent series between the Packers and Cardinals has featured several games (both regular season and postseason) that have gone down to the final minute. The Cardinals have four wins in the rivalry since 2003 that were games decided either at the end of regulation or in overtime.

Packers vs Cardinals since 2000

Year Location Result Memorable Moment
2000 at Arizona GB win 29-3 Longwell 5 FGs
2003 at Arizona Arz win 20-13 Favre last-second interception
2006 at Green Bay GB win 31-14 Favre first Lambeau Leap
2009 at Arizona GB win 33-7 Woodson's 3rd pick 6 of season
2009 at Arizona* Arz win 51-45(ot) Highest scoring playoff game
2012 at Green Bay GB win 31-17 Crabtree career-long TD catch
2015 at Arizona Arz win 37-8 Cardinals dominate playoff preview
2015 at Arizona* Arz win 26-20(ot) Rodgers to Janis sends game to OT
2018 at Green Bay Arz win 20-17 McCarthy fired after walk-off loss
2021 at Arizona GB win 24-21 Douglas INT saves the day
2024 at Green Bay GB win 34-13 Love 4 TD passes; 2 to Doubs

* Playoff Game

The last time Green Bay traveled to Arizona, the Packers got their own final second win as a Rasul Douglas interception sealed a 24-21 win in October of 2021. It was a game that, at the time, matched up the NFC’s top two teams.

If the Packers are to get their second straight win in Glendale, it’s likely they will have to lean on the things that they have been successful with this season: Jordan Love airing it out on 3rd down, relying on Josh Jacobs on goal-to-go situations and the defense keeping the Cardinals from any big plays.

Despite it’s so-so performance against the Cincinnati Bengals (no takeaways, 1 sack), the defense did not allow a play of over 20 yards the entire game, forcing Joe Flacco, Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins to “dink and dunk” their way down the field. Will Kyler Murray (or Jacoby Brissett) have that same patience in Sunday’s game?

The Cardinals where my Survivor team vs the Titans and I will never forgive them for blowing that game. Up 21 - 6 with 12mins to go and your RB is running the ball into the end zone and they lose the game 21 - 22. They also got an INT with the Titans driving in the red zone and the Titans scored a TD on that very same play. Only the Cardinals could do such a thing. I hope the Packers score on every drive and the D scores a shutout.

With that said I don't really down grade the Cardinals very much if at all playing with Brissett at QB and I think he might get the start again. He throws a much better deep ball and can actually get the ball outside the numbers. I think this is Murray's last year on the Cardinals. Don't draft guys under 5'5" is the lesson here. Cardinals like to establish the run and have decent WRs though I think Harrison Jr. is a tad slow getting out of his breaks and hasn't been everything they had hoped. I think the Packers should handle them but I think it stays inside a TD.

That one sent me to google. It says Murray is 5'10".

They always exaggerate the height on football players. I don’t think he’s 5’5” but he doesn’t look more than 5’7” or 5’8”.

Is "they" the NFL combine measurement officials...do they do the exaggeration too? Because they measured him at 5 feet 10 and 1/8th inches.

Maybe he is shrinking?

I was joking there. I know he is taller than that but he doesn't look it out there. Looks like Marvin the Martian with his big helmet out there.

Cardinals have Murray locked for through 2026 and already paid him $150 M guaranteed on a $230 M deal.

I don't think Murray and his over 20,000 yards and 122 passing TDs is ever being replaced by the journeyman 32 year old Brissett...on his 7th team in 10 years and has never earned a winning record while only getting snaps in 7 of his 10 seasons.

He's a decent back up but if Murray can go, Murray will start.

I think 12 plus

The running game gets going. With all 3 backs.

O Line plays well

The defense looks sharp a pick or two on the back end

Gary has a big game.

Jordan is sharp

Wide outs are more open than a 7-11

Like Mc hammer says. Can’t touch this …I think Wicks will be that guy Sunday with Golden.

Musgrave a TD

Kraft for 87 yards

Wilson a run for about 28 yards off right tackle

Jacob’s is Jacob’s

Brooks nice wheel route maybe for 6

Watson?….don’t know if he’s going this week or Steelers game …

Quay gets a pick. They will most likely run a play like the Bengals td when they got a Td. This time Quay picks it off.

"which would be the last touchdown catch of Watson’s career" Kind of a harsh prognostication isn't it, Mitch?

I was listening to ESPN radio in my car, and Fredie and Harry were talking about how the Cardinals have only themselves to blame for their losses. Sound familiar? They've pulled bonehead mistakes at the end of every loss. A good team that no one should want to face.

The Packers need to go in there and make the Cardinals shoot themselves in the feet some more.

Arizona has found ways to fritter away games. They've brought in a lot of young talent through the last couple drafts, but just haven't bloomed because of it. If anything, when you watch them play, you can see there's something missing....maybe it's the OL. Maybe it's just the mental aspects of the game. Something new bites them every week.

Assuming they should be an easy out, though, is a mistake. Arizona is reaching a higher level of desperation and the coach/GM combo is under fire. They're a dangerous team to play on the road at this point.

Uh-oh, the "last touchdown of Watson's career"?
Does CHTV know something we don't know or is it sloppy writing and editing?
