The Packers seem to be pinning their pass rushing hopes on the fact that Gannon had success in Philly with Sweat, Hassan Redick and the rest of their stud DL. And thus maybe he can make something special out of our young group of pass rushers. Don't forget Philly's guys were all high draft picks, and we have Lucas Van Ness and some 4th & 5th & 6th round guys. I think this is a crazy plan. Why risk having a weaker pass rush when the paltry sum of $3-5 million can buy pass rushing insurance and productivity with Clowney or Epenesa. That is so small when looking at the big picture of how much our cap spending is that buying one of them seems like it should be a no brainer.
I just think it makes no sense to risk going 3-3 in our first 6 games instead of maybe 5-1. Losing an NFC North game early puts us behind in the standings right away. The North is going to be an absolute dog fight this year and for years to come. Clowney or Epenesa would be rotating and not be taking all the snaps away from the younger players like trading for Josh Sweat would. I would be against trading for Sweat even though he would guaranty double digit sacks next year. Anyone else playing 12 games across from Parsons should get close to 10 sacks, that includes DDS and maybe even LVN.
Just bite the bullet and sign Clowney or Epenesa and get a stress relieving insurance policy before they are gone. We could even trade that player mid season for a nice late day 2 or early day 3 draft pick. Why we would do that with such a cheap, valuable depth piece would make no sense but we could.

He doesn’t get talked about much, but I hear that the one rusher who was regularly getting by people in the OTAs was Brenton Cox.

It's always encouraging to hear about guys having success, but trench play in shorts and t-shirts doesn't mean much.

All you can get from it is evidence of suddenness or agility. Generally shorts don’t mean much for anyone except the speedy hyper athletes (and then not a vast amount). Still, we need some wins by speed, so that’s a good sign nevertheless.

I was happy when we signed Brenton Cox. He was a very highly rated player coming into college, but fell in the draft because of character concerns. He has all the talent in the world, but he needs to be healthy and get snaps. I think Cox is more talented than Gary was.
I also like DDS and Sorrell, but the cold hard fact that is slapping us in the face right now is that none of the guys behind Parsons have accomplished squat in the NFL. With Parsons missing at least 4 games it is Lunacy to think we can stand pat & start the year with LVN, DDS, Sorrel and Oliver as our Top 4. If that group is unsuccessful, there will be nobody left to sign and Parsons will get rushed back before he is ready. The 2026 season, with easier games frontloaded, could put GB behind the 8-ball early.
There are 3 guys sitting there and none would get more than $6 million. Spend the money, get the veteran leadership, production, and insurance. Let's start the year 5-1 instead of 3-3.

Dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure out if you have top DE's you probably will look good as a defensive coach. Obvioiusly the talk of getting Sweat is due to the curent coach not liking what he has inherited which is nothing without Parsons.
I hope the packers give up on this gotta win now so get rid of future draft picks thing. You could have drafted your pass rush but you had no picks and the team needs everything.
Hate to be negative but if this team wins 8 games thats who they are. Nine is over achieving.
