Packers add QB Kurt Benkert to the 53 man roster

The team also added QB Danny Etling to the practice squad.

The Packers elevated third string QB Kurt Benkert to the 53 man roster today as a as a COVID-19 replacement for Jordan Love, who was placed on the reserve list yesterday.

The team also signed QB Danny Etling to the practice squad.

With Aaron Rodgers still dealing with a fractured toe and Love unable to participate, look for Benkert to run with the ones during practice this week leading up to Sunday's game against the Bears.

A second-year player out of the University of Virginia, Benkert originally joined the Packers in May 2021 and has spent the entire regular season on Green Bay’s practice squad.

Etling, a 6-3, 222-pound, first-year player out of Louisiana State University, was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round (No. 219 overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has spent time on the practice squads of the Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos while also working with the Minnesota Vikings this past training camp. Etling will wear No. 9 for the Packers.

How about De'Vondre Campbell, where's the attention and hate for him like Rodgers got?

Where did Campbell mislead anyone about his status? That's where the attention came from.

You never realized all the hubbub over Rodgers was the fact he lied about being vaccinated and, along with the Packers organization, he brazenly broke the protocols all non-vaccinated players were required to follow for a couple months?

Not surprised, but kinda impressed, actually.

Either decided he was better than bringing back other guy or other guy decided not come! Bortles in reference to!

Etling is cheaper than Bortles, and is only needed for practice this week with Rodgers resting his toe. Love should be back next week, and Etling will be released.

I like Benekert. He reminds me of Taylor Heinicke.

Could be a move to protect him down the stretch for camp next summer, too.

Well, he could then go through the rest of his life saying that he played in a game for the Green Bay Packers.
