I am starting to believe Gute is taking a page out of TT's old playbook - don't sign free agents and do sign cut players so the Packers can recoup draft choices for lost FAs. Kirksey and Wagner both do not count against the Packers as they were released players, not FAs. I expected Gute to sign a FA IDL, but there are now a significant number of both FA IDLs and released IDLs available. I would not be surprised at all to see Gute either pick up a released IDL or wait until free agency is over to pick up a former FA IDL.

Given the Packers lost Bulaga, Martinez and Fackrell to free agency (Graham doesn't count as he was released), the Packers should pick up some good draft choices next year.

And I simply can not believe the Bears paid Graham that much money to be a very mediocre TE...…..made my day!

The Packers need to be judicious. Every player they add makes it harder to retain Clark, Bakhtiari, King, and others next year. Draft picks are still pretty valuable. I think there will be a "value" signing or two, yet, but I'm becoming more skeptical that there will be much more than that.

I can’t believe “we” signed Graham in the first place, same for Seattle. In his day though with the Saints he was probably the best TE in the league, but that was years ago.

Signing one of them would have blown up our cap. We can get an ILB in the draft, Martinez was a 4th rounder and Littleton undrafted. I also like Greene in that position.

What??? You're kidding right?! I'm surprised Burks is still on the roster as he has been relegated to special teams, can't perform as an ILB, though i wish him well. I trust Gutey will do the right thing here, but clearly don't see #42 playing LB for GB, he's had his chances and Gutey doesn't give players 2-3 yrs to develop like TT did.

hyping all the FA news has been "great"???!? It's okay though, what else is new with the media-you gotta get ratings i suppose. Second, you gave a bait/switch headlines as there are 2 teams from New York, so which team(s) did they go to? At least they didn't go to Lions and/or the queens, LOL. Care bears making more mistakes by signing JG though, WOW!

Both Fackrell and Martinez were signed by the Giants.

I agree with a statement above...Gutekunst must be prudent during free agency. He can't do any long term deals if he is going to have any chance of keeping Clark,Bakhtiari, etc. next year. His signings so far have been players that have been cut...which is really shrewd on his part as they do not count against the awarding of complementary draft picks. He filled two positions of need in the process! I think if any one else is signed it will be another player who has been cut. Given the scant salary cap space he had to work with this year and the core guys he needs to resign next year...the most he could hope to do for this year is to make sure he gets complimentary picks for the players he loses. In my book that makes him one hell of smart GM!

We had less cap space than most teams, many teams had twice as much and a few had three times as much. So we’re shopping at Kmart, not Bloomingdales. We shrank our cap space last year with the Smiths and Amos.

We likely won’t have much space next year, either, and Clark, Bakhtiari, Linsley , King, Jones and Williams will all be FAs.

Gutekunst’s 5 year deal is going to be at the halfway point when we start training camp. Rodgers has two more years before an out in his contract kicks in. IMO, there’s no point in offering long term deals. It’s this year, or maybe next, and if we don’t get to the Super Bowl I’d expect some changes. Gutekunst went all in on winning with Rodgers....we passed over good QBs in the draft, we fired a very successful coach, we improved the defense and added four OL over the last 15 months. If it’s going to be a successful, it’s going almost have to be this year or next.

It’s amazing how other teams with little or no cap space are making big deals , maybe Gute is just not that good. Packers defense is already worse than last season.

For example?

It’s way too early to make that judgement about the defense, We haven’t even drafted yet.

Most of our defense returns, but Martinez and Fackrell do not. All of the rest of our game day roster is back. Some, like Savage and Gary and Summers and Keke might be better in their second year. We might add somebody in the draft.

I’ll probably wait a while before I start comparing our defense to last year.

The Packers did not go to the super bowl because they gave up over 250 yards rushing to a no name running back, the off season priority should have been fix the run defense, they failed at it terribly by not pursuing Kwitakowski, Littleton and Shobert , so now they have an oft injured unknown and Oren Burks, so be prepared to be embarrassed this coming season .

if you think 1 player would have fixed what was wrong with the d in the nfcc game... well... i can't help you because you don't know anything about football.

that was a complete team meltdown.
plan was garbage.
scheme was garbage.
adjustments were garbage.

coulda' replaced martinez with singeltary in that game and the result would have been pretty much the same.

ps - littleton sucks against the run. so does schobert.
pss - kirksey is better than kwiatkowski.

I have been a Packer fan for over 70 years. My era was Lombardi and my hero was Ray Nitschke ,premier middle linebacker, who was a fullback in college. The most memorable quote I cherish from Vince Lombardi is pretty simple - "Football is a game of blocking and tackling".

Now, the SF 49ers must have taken that quip to heart. John Lynch must have it on his office wall.

In the playoff game against the Packers, the Niners fielded offensive & defensive lines with a total of seven (7) first round picks among them. That is a show of pursuing quality. Now, how long have they had losing seasons to do this, to accumulate picks, I do not know.
