Josiah Deguara Out for Season After Suffering Torn ACL Monday Night

Rookie TE Josiah Deguara will miss the rest of the 2020 season.

One of the Packers' most promising rookies has had his season cut tragically short.

According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, tight end/H-back Josiah Deguara suffered a torn ACL at the end of Monday night's game against the Falcons. His season is over.

A brutal setback for Deguara, and a tough blow to a Packers offense that had big plans for his versatility this year.

Crap. I was excited to see the things MLF would cook up for him.

Ditto! I hate being patient, but will have to keep the positive energy flowing his way for next year.

Sad, not just for him, but we never got to see the player or role really. I was looking forward to seeing a true Hback In this offense. Lovett is athletic but does only a limited amount of the role less effectively at this point and Sternberger was not great at a reduced section of it last year. I’d rather see him play classic TE.

I would rather see Sternberger play split out than classic in line TE.

With Tonyan ascending, I think at this point Sternberger is going to be more in a traditional role. That should be good for him in the medium term.

I thought the Packers were moving away from jamming square pegs into round holes- if so, we should hope for Jace to be split from the line.

While this offense is going to expect all TE's to do their fair share of blocking (everyone, really), Sternberger's aptitude is found in his ball skills, not blocking.

What a shame. After watching his college highlights, the first thought that came to mind....THIS IS A FOOTBALL PLAYER!

He is a beast, but a lot of All Pro TEs have endured an ACL and have come back stronger. He's the real deal.

Nothing to do with his previous injury (ankle, if I remember) as he got rolled on by another player.

Damn. Rough luck for him and bad for the team. :( Health and quick healing, young man.

So, we resigned an old dependable vet (Lewis), brought back Eaa Day 2 pick AND used another Day 2 pick, and held onto a UDFA who hadn’t done a lot.

Lewis and Tonyan and Steinbrenner will need to get it done. I think they will. Deguara will be back next year, but probably not Lewis.

No matter how great your depth is, injuries weaken the team so the more different ways you can move the ball and score points, the better.

Really, Lovett is the potential back up to what Deguara was brought in to do. He has a far steeper learning curve though despite physical gifts. Perhaps he can expand what he does over the course of the season, but we aren’t likely to see the role as LaFleur conceived it fully realized this year now.

Regret seeing this happen to a player so early in their career. I hope he makes a full recovery and return next season to contribute to our offense. Thanks, Since ‘61

I feel bad for him. I was looking forward to seeing what ways he could be used. I wish him well for a full recovery and comeback in 2021.

An undrafted free agent middle linebacker is going to lead all of the rookies from this year's class in snaps, and a 6th round backup guard or 7th round edge rusher is probably going to be second. That's insane.

It doesn’t matter where you find them as long as you find good ones.

Outside of owning just 2 Packer jerseys I was really intrigued with Deguara. After that Viking game I'm thinking he is that throwback lunch box blue collar type guy. That he just might force me to buy his jersey. I likely will end up buying his Jersey but not before rehab and next year.

Best of luck young man!
