James Jones Indicates He'll Hit The Open Market

The veteran wide receiver told SiriusXM NFL radio that the Packers have not contacted him about remaining in Green Bay next year.

James Jones was on the SiriusXM Blitz this afternoon and indicated the Packers have not reached out regarding any kind of new contract talks. It would appear Jones will hit the market when free agency begins next Wednesday.

You can listen to the relative section below:

Jones certainly sounds a bit frustrated, which is understandable, but on a team with a lot of young receiving talent, it's no surprise the Packers aren't exactly in a hurry to bring him back.

As for Jones wanting teams to "put his numbers up" against anyone else, I don't doubt he'd like teams to do so, but I doubt he'd want them to turn on the tape and see his inability to separate, not to mention how a lot of his production in 2015 came off free plays created by Aaron Rodgers' cadence and willingness to look for him on those plays.

When actually called upon to beat good corners in the normal run of play, Jones was painfully quiet for much of the season.

Jones was no doubt a God-send for a Packers team that needed a veteran receiver after Jordy Nelson went down in the preseason last year, but that doesn't mean the team should be in a hurry to bring him back. Ted Thompson is doing the right thing in letting Jones hit the market.

Packers should reach out to TE Colt Lyerla. They need a real TE more than anything.

Signing Jones was strictly a one year fix...I thought "everybody" realized that from the moment it went down. I guess James didn't get the memo?

Might be a two year fix if injuries stack up.

Spot on. Love JJ, but he was signed to give Rodgers a security blanket when Jordy went down and Cobb was hurting. Jones was the only other receiver who had any familiarity with Rodgers and the free plays were a perfect example of that. Once he made a few plays early on, teams caught on and shut him down for the most part.

Greg Jennings released by Miami and 3 years younger than James Jones may be a Veteren option, Jennings wasted his career because of a million dollar difference , I'm sure Cobb took note of that and that helped him to decide to stay in GB , James Jones I think will have a hard time getting any offers except of course from the Vikings.

GJ burned his bridges when he left. TT will never bring him back. At least that's what Greg's sister said.

This is the correct move by the Packers. Let James Jones test the market in order to find out his value/worth. If he receives some solid interest wish him luck in his future endeavours (as long as they're not against us); however, if the interest in him is little to none then consider offering him a one year deal around the veterans minimum to return in order to raise the level of competition in training camp and as a security move in case of injury. It's just the logical position the Packers should take.
