Gut Reactions: Packers don't get off the bus but beat Lions

  • Classic case of not getting off the bus after a big game
  • Aaron Rodgers was absolutely wretched for most of this game.
  • That said, he didn't get a whole lot of help from his pass catchers early on.
  • Jared Veldheer seemed to hold up quite well in place of Bulaga.
  • Patrick didn't hold up quite as well for Linsley, but still enabled the offense to operate.
  • My heart dropped into my feet when Aaron Jones was being looked at by the training staff.
  • Gutekunst is drafting a QB in April. Book it.
  • Allen Lazard. Playmaker.
  • Blake Martinez. Playmaker.
  • Davante Adams. Playmaker.
  • MVS or Jimmy Graham...not so much.
  • Rodgers throwing behind his intended receiver, making it easier for the pass to be broken up, is going to haunt my dreams this week.
  • Kumerow got called for something Jordy Nelson made a careers out of on the OPI.
  • Aaron Jones is everything.
  • YES. I STILL LOVE THIS TEAM.
  • Overall, it's pretty clear LaFleur and Rodgers got suckered in by the Lions 32nd ranking when it comes to pass defense and refused to budge, for the most part, in their belief that they could make something happen downfield.
  • Go Pack.

I'm content winning ugly all the way through the Superbowl and see what people think of the Pack then. Probably still some excuse about how they can't play against a good team, or maybe that their offense is disjointed or the defense is too flexible. Anyway, go pack.

This might have been the ugliest of all the ugly wins. If this is the team that shows up in the playoffs they just might be the first team to ever lose during Wildcard Weekend despite having a bye.

Still, a win is a win is a win. Go Seahawks!!!!

With all due respect, we, u, as a Packer fan does NOT want the Seahawks to win...if the Hawks win, likely we'll play the 49rs in the playoff game compared to the Saints...neither sounds good for us, but I'd rather play the Saints than the 49rs, especially with our Offensive play...

Sorry Norm, a win is NOT a win when we should have been able to rest our starters after the first half, by taking an early lead against a terrible opponent. UGLY wins? Understatement!!!!!!! Don't make your reservations in Miami. There are fans watching the game that could have made throws that Rodgers missed today. I hope we don't experience the same level of regret the Vikings are experiencing in signing Cousins for big money. Rodgers has been average, at best for the last 2 1/2 years. Today, he was nothing short of awful. I also think that they were trying to give Jimmy ( the big mistake) Graham a nice send off before they get rid of him,( sentiment ahead of success, good thinking). Super Bowl ? DREAM ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game and the Patriots game prove why you can never discredit or look past divisional opponents luckily we avoided their fate the Chiefs took their spot. I was hoping this game would be a blowout but reserved hope knowing the Lions would give it everything with nothing to play for besides spoiler. This whole season besides a game or two took years off my life but thankful for a division sweep and at least a first round bye.

Aaron Rodgers is trash.

He is talented as anyone in the game.. but his ego is *the* problem with this offense.
The defense has saved his sorry ass all year long.

It's simple: execute the offense as designed, this offense moves the sticks.
But when you turn it into your own personal deep shot glory offense, it's hard to watch.

After a completely wasted first half of attempting to hit the big play, we come out and the offense re-emerges with a steady diet of Jones and taking the underneath routes the defense is giving us.

Then, when it's time to seal the deal, it's all down field big play shit. Throwing for it all on 2nd & 20 was a travesty. That entire drive should have been about Aaron Jones, high percentage passing in the short yardage routes, draining clock and sealing it with a game winning FG.

Thank god for this defense.

Let's go win a Superbowl and hopefully find some team who will take Rodgers' contract off our hands so we can start moving forward with a QB who wants to follow the gameplan and execute the offense without the ego. I'm ready for the future. Sooooo done with the Diva QB shit.

...And you can bet your ass today's high flying deep shot offense was all about Rodgers getting "snubbed" for the NFL's all time top 100 players list. Too bad he's too egotistical to see it's performances like this one that kept him off the list.

My opinion is based on the last decade of watching nearly every presser and reading every quote I could find from Rodgers and the people who train and work with him every day.

I speak as anyone who has ever said anything about Aaron Rodgers, or any other football player, in the NFL. If you only deal with pure facts and dismiss all observation and speculation as "annoying", there would be no sports media, and no need for a place like CHTV.

Be annoyed. I can tell you this- if you don't believe ROdgers gives a shit about his perception by fans, media, and especially by the NFL and his peers- I can safely say you haven't been paying very close attention to Aaron Rodgers. Strange for a guy who obviously likes to make sure he knows the facts.

My issues are with the fact that over the last half decade I've watched a once-great QB become too big for his britches. He not only lets others fall on the sword, but he intentionally misleads public perception and throws others under the bus. He systematically refuses to make throws the majority of NFL QBs make routinely, and he himself used to make regularly (short throws with touch, over the middle routes, etc). He no longer regularly goes through his progressions. Until recently, he seemed to shun the idea of feeding the RB. Refuses to snap the ball with any more than 2 or 3 seconds on the clock (usually 0). Has been over throwing, but overwhelmingly underthrowing, his targets for the last few years. mostly, I believe the Packers offense would actually improve with another QB under center, even one with far less talent than Rodgers.. so long as it was one who worked with the coach and the system as opposed to trying to run it himself.

Again, I used to believe Rodgers was the best QB in the league. He still could be, if he took a note or two from Brady or Breeze on how to play the position down the stretch. Those gentlemen take what the defense gives them, and hand the ball off (particularly brady). Now, I believe Rodgers' refusal to work with a system, especially if it requires him to change his approach, has rendered him a net negative in this offense.

Yes Oppy he does care about his performance, he's more critical of himself than anyone. When he has a bad game like today you think he just blows it off ?? If you saw the one camera shot on the sideline after missing Jones, I'd swear he mouthed "I'm just f%@#& off ". Why do all his peers, real players that played or are playing say he's a Hall of Famer ?? Aaron Rodgers holds the bar very high for himself AND the people around him, and THAT is what rubs some people wrong. Aaron Rodgers has carried this team for ALOT OF YEARS and as soon as he not playing his best, people want to trade him ?? What you gonna have then ? You think QBs like him are to be found everywhere, if you do your a freakin idiot !!! Yes AR was off today on some guys that WERE open, but how many times is the separation not there, WR not going up to fight for the ball or draw a PI Call, or simply drops ?? All those things require AR to throw perfect throws to SMALL, SMALL, windows. Show me a good QB that DOESN'T care about how he's perceived as a player and leader. If you just want to point the finger at one person all the time, at least acknowledge that there's 10 other players out there that need to do their job in order for AR to do his, and that's not happening. Your just a chronic complainer that shows your stupidity waaaay too much !!

What you going to do then since you think HALL A FAMERS are easy to find ? Your "I know more than you do" comment is something you hear from a freakin child, or from someone like the douchebag coach from last week that loves himself soooooo much that he always thinks he's smarter than everyone else. Take your pick because you fit them both, Mr. KNOW IT ALL !!!!!! I wish the rest of us mortals had your powers or your crystal ball. HAPPY NEW YEAR , maybe you can post what MFL is going to call for his scripted plays to start the next game, then we can all be in awe of your superior knowledge and wisdom since you know ( maybe you have ESP ) what everyone is thinking and doing out there on the field.

And by that, what I mean is, if you can't see that Rodgers making shit throws and/or not targeting the open WR and/or throwing deep on every down when he's been off-target all game and we happen to have a top 10 (arguably top 5) RB on our team.. if you can't see these are Rodgers-related issues that hurt the offense, I don't know what game you're watching.

Yes, other guys can play better. But there's one guy who affects the offense more than anyone else, and that's the QB. And the GBP QB play in 2019 has not been what it should be.

I'm talking about the job the QB does delivering the football. Not figuring in drops (which on on the WR). Isolate the QB, the decisions, the throws. Rodgers hasn't been that good in 2019. No one else on the team affects those two things.. outside of time in the pocket, but you know how that goes.. If Rodgers gets sacked 4 times during a game while holding the ball for 5 seconds, it's the OL's fault, right?

Oppy, Rodgers missed too many throws today, that is not in question. But how do any of us know that MLF didn't call the deep shots that the Packers took? My guess is that the Packers game plan was too try to exploit the Lions weak secondary and hopefully build a lead early in the game.

Rodgers missing the throws wasn't good that's for sure but I don't believe that any professional can afford to be focused on anything other than playing. To do in a game like NFL football would be to risk serious injury. I also don't believe that any active player could care less about the NFL 100 team. The fact that he was named a finalist while he is still playing says enough about his career up to this point. He'll be a HOFer and that is more important and more permanent that the NFL 100 team. Who remembers who was on the NFL All 75 team or the NFL First 50 year team? The HOF and the SBs those are permanent, those never change. I think that you may be making assumptions that are not necessarily supported by facts.

We go back to the ALLGBP days so I have no doubts about where your loyalties are. You dislike Rodgers and that's fine in terms of his performance on the field but I'm not sure about the ego and other stuff that you bring up in your posts. Thanks, Since '61

Who cares that Rodgers didn't get drafted by the 49ers as the #1 over all pick (besides niners fans, lol), or that he fell to #27 in the NFL draft?

Aaron Rodgers does. Even though he's a first ballot. Rodgers does.

Who cares that a fan at a charity event who had the opportunity to meet Aaron Rodgers, innocently said to the NFL MVP QB who has nothing to prove to anyone, "Oh, I thought you'd be taller"?

Aaron Rodgers did.

It's not a big deal, I don't ding him for caring.. but if there's one thing that has been consistently shown over the years, Aaron Rodgers cares. He cares what is said about him, he cares about the awards and the accolades. And when he feels he's been slighted, he goes about trying to prove the doubters wrong.

It's served him well over the years.

For what it's worth, I didn't frame his caring as a negative. Someone asked if I thought he really gives a shit about the honor. Yes. Yes I do think he cares. I think he cares a lot, for the above reasons I listed and more. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah, I've heard all the BS from Rodgers mouth, and then watched what actually happens on the field. (BTW, Aaron Rodgers is a master media manipulator. He is also fond of carefully choosing words and phrasing that will lead his audience to believe something that is not true, without actually telling a lie. He did it for years when it came to misleading people about who was really the man behind GB's apparent lack of commitment to handing the ball off to the RB, as an example.)

This offense is ugly when Rodgers tries to play commander instead of doing what is asked of this offense.

You can see it just by formation more often than not. Last week was the first game I've watched all season where the offense actually looked like what it's supposed to look like for 4 quarters.

There hasn't been a truer comment on this thread or any other for the last several weeks. I know I keep bringing up this same but very telling fact...Last week 4 slant patterns thrown to Allen Lazard on 3rd down and the results were 3 first downs and an incompletion. This week it took Rodgers until the 4th quarter to FINALLY throw a slant and guess what...FIRST DOWN!!

Rodgers has caused more issues with the offense in 2019 than he's created positives. The times this year he's been lauded for playing well, he was simply playing within the system. It's the end of the regular season, and he still seemingly hasn't been able to fully put his need to be "the man" aside and do what's best for the team. I thought after last week, he may have actually turned the corner. Then this game? Nope, he's still putting himself ahead of the offense.

I got zero tolerance for that. All aboard! This train should be leaving the station.

If I'm a vikings troll, I must be the most god damned charismatic vikings troll there ever was to have a 4:1 ratio of likes to dislikes over the last 12 years

Don't have to agree with how I feel about Rodgers, but I can tell you this.. I was a massive, and early, supporter of Aaron Rodgers in the beginning, but I pay attention and my dislike for the man is based on observation, not some imaginary vikings allegiance. I'm a pure Packer fan, through and through. Stock hanging on my wall.

You can drop the accusations I'm a rival fan. I'm simply not blind.

Jameis Winston threw his 30th interception of the year today. He did have 32 TD passes and over 5,000 yards. The TB defense must be pretty good to allow it to go 7-9. 6 sacks, 14 QB hits, and 9 TFL against Atlanta weren't enough to win, though.

This isn't a non sequitur. Be careful what you wish for.

It was a joke. I don’t care about #12’s sexuality and personally don’t believe he is gay. The point of my comment is that you seem very emotional about the man and despite what you may think, you are making assumptions based on YOUR observations. If you don’t have full context, perspective, behind the scenes info...your conclusions end up being constructed partly of conjecture. Oppy, I am concerned and unhappy with AR’s play as well but some of your conclusions about the motives and the reasons go too far. If you want a simple, non-conspiracy explanation....how about the fact that his footwork and mechanics are often horrendous! Favre could do this stuff at age 40, #12 cannot! That might also be part of the accuracy issue IMO. After saying all that, #12 was like the third or 4th most productive QB of this week! The team is 13-3. I think some context is in order and we as fans should be happy we have AR. He’s not played well or up to his ability at times and I get as angry as anyone about it. There is not anyone else that is going to give GB a chance to win a SB over the next few years.

That's where we differ. I don't think we need a so-called "elite" QB to win in this system.

I think we need a good QB who plays within the system. And I think with the $$$ saved compared to paying Rodgers' contract, we could build a championship defense and a top-tier OL and ground game to make it happen.

All without the drama.

For what its worth- a good deal of my opinions on Rodgers come from listening carefully to the people who DO have full context, behind the scenes info, and perspective.

That's exactly what LaFleur said after the game. He indicated he was fine with the attempts - they just didn't connect. Over the course of the season, LaFleur has often repeated how important "explosive plays" are to winning. We can't blame Rodgers without including LaFleur and the game plan in the blame department.

Rodgers must have overthrown his target at least 8 times today and threw behind the receiver 3 times. he needs to lay the ball in there so his receiver can at least get his hands on it! is he afraid of getting picked off or is he that inaccurate now.

I honestly think an average-to-above average journeyman QB would have the Packers at the same record but with more points on the books.

The type of QB play that has resulted in this offense "clicking" is not amazing QB play- it has been the result of playing the offense as it's intended- that is, running the ball out of the backfield, hitting varied targets underneath the defense, and occasionally taking a shot downfield off of play action.

What I have seen is when the QB decides he's going to force feed the ball towards a certain target deep down field, neglects to hand the ball off frequently, and ignores the check downs or shallow options- we have an offense that sputters and stalls for large chunks of the game.

Actually, I think we probably would have beat OAK with a different QB. So maybe we would be 14-2. Crazy, right?

"It wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't for the fact that most packers fans (and Rodgers) are happy to lay blame on every one else, but Rodgers."

There is definitely that element out there and it is a sizable element. It was the same thing with Favre. Heck, if the internet was a thing back then, I bet it would have been the same with Majik or Dickey. You see Bears fans singing the praises of Trubisky. And Vikings fans think Cousins is awesome. Some people just won't hear anything bad about their favorite team.

But more and more Packer fans are recognizing that Rodgers is human like the rest of us. He is subject to the same shortcomings that all humans have. And open to discussing it. I am truly curious which group is the majority of Packer fans.

Going through the Favre debacle, and coming out the other end of it better. Now we're going through the Rodgers debacle (despite unprecedented denial by most), and the mere thought of moving on is blasphemy..? Have we learned nothing? It is time to move it forward.

As I've stated numerous times... I am completely done with the diva QB thing. I'm ready for a team built around defense and clock control offense. No more QB drama for me.

Nope - you need a really bad like/dislike ratio to get your posts filtered - you aren't close. I already have it turned on.

pro-tip - try not to claim that something subjective (ego) can be seen objectively by just you. It's really obvious that Rodgers didn't play well, and has had to play hero ball in the past few seasons, and even that it can lead to bad habits - that's entirely reasonable. Saying it's ego, and flogging that horse into oblivion, is not. Based on Gute's last off-season, where he attacked the team's weaknesses (safety and edge), he will again this offseason with the WR and TE group - that will help Rodgers play less hero ball.

Rodgers cracks and flaws are known to many in the NFL and the media.

But he's a first ballot HOF'er and a high-value PR piece for the NFL. Everybody is hands off with Rodgers. Everybody tip toes around it

Local media fears (knows?) that hard-lining Rodgers will result in getting their access limited or pulled by the team.

Coaches seem to know (have learned?) that you have to protect his fragile ego and fall on the sword to protect him in post game pressers. Some have learned that it can cost you your job even if you do cover for him.

Players have learned that if reveal the truth about Rodgers to the media, the rabbid Packers fan base will ignore your testimony regardless- even when multiple sources say the similar things. With the uptick in FA coming and going the last few years, we even had players telling the media they had "never seen anything like" the autonomy Rodgers has in the huddle, which we now have strong evidence was most likely thinly coded for "he ignores MMs play calls and does whatever he wants". We also now have information that Rodgers was telling WRs to ignore the techniques their position coaches were teaching them, and demanding they run their routes how *he* wanted them run, not how *the offense* dictates they should be run, putting those players in the middle of a tug of war between the coaching staff and their QB... Current team mates have always tiptoed around the issue as well in locker room interviews, "different kind of cat", "particular", "he has his things", "Sensitive", etc..

He's an asshat. and the entire system around him is buit to protect him.. because he's a future HOFer and important marketing PR for the NFL, and specifically, to Lambeau Field and Green Bay as a whole.

If you want to attribute all kinds of devious motives and reasons for it - that he is intentionally refusing to follow the game plan, that he's a diva/prima dona, that he's only concerned about his personal stats - well, that's just a guess.

Heavily circumstantial to be sure.

But lots and lots of circumstantial evidence to be found over the years.

Like.. lots.

I don't care if I "get my self in trouble". There's so much evidence that paints the picture of who Rodgers is and what's been going on, I refuse to play dumb and give him the benefit of doubt any longer. There's millions of other fans and media who already fill that role. I can't ignore it all any longer.

I'm done with 12 and the crazy ring of protection around him. He is cancer. As I stated previously.. I can't wait until everyone is retired and people start talking unabashedly about what has happened over the last 5 years of his career.

Speaking of cancer, Rodgers was honored by the Medical College of Wisconsin (no public ceremony) for his work in raising $2.8 million in research funding for MACC (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer). Rodgers continues to make appearances on behalf of the MACC Fund, and works with children battling cancer.

He financially supports Shriners Hospitals for Children, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Make-A-Wish, and the Brees Dream Foundation (established by by Drew Brees) to improve the quality of life for cancer patients, and provide care, education and opportunities for children and families in need.

Oppy...As must as I hate to agree with you, it's hard to argue against much of it....

I agree 100% Rodgers is PISSED about being left of that list. I also agree with you about Rodgers ego and personally think if he doesn't put that ego in check, winning another SB is going to be tough.

Last week against a MUCH better defense Rodgers played IMO one of his better games of the season. Last week Rodgers used the MIDDLE of the field, especially on 3rd downs with Slant routes to Lazard. This week it took until the 4th quarter for Rodgers to finally throw a slant to Lazard on 3rd down and guess what...FIRST DOWN!!

UNLESS Rodgers plays WITHIN this system and STOPS with the deep shots his WR's have almost NO SHOT of catching, it probably won't matter who or where we play. I'm also SO SICK of the dirty looks he gives his receivers. On Acme Packing Company someone brought up the number of WIDE OPEN receivers Rodgers missed by throwing behind, over, or under throwing them. It was something like 8 times IIRC and that was still in the 3rd quarter and that's not even counting the throws he was late on making.

My HOPE for this year but especially next season is Rodgers becomes more comfortable and TRUSTS this system 100% and plays 95% of the time within it. That and Gute gets him more weapons...Gute HAS to get more weapons.

#MORE PRACTICE LESS COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!

I don't think the commercials etc have an impact on NFL careers.

They don't skip practice to do commercials. I'd even wager the great majority of the filming happens during off season.

I don't know that it's even a matter of distraction. These guys are still in the building at 1225 the same number of hours for training, walk through, practice, meetings, rehab.

I think its all about Rodgers playing within a system and working with the coaching staff to make the offense work how it's supposed to.

But when you turn it into your own personal deep shot glory offense, it's hard to watch."

I'm not so sure that both things are not in play here. There is little doubt in my mind that Rodgers is in love with the deep ball to an unhealthy degree. Much of what I did not quote from your post rings true. He's hyper-aware of his legacy, is hyper-competitive and has a confidence level that often crosses the line to arrogance.

However, I also believe that the game plan called for a heavy does of deep balls. And Rodgers was executing that game plan. He executed as poorly has he's executed a game plan in a long time. But it was still the game plan.

I, too, was a BIG supporter of #12, as the guy was lights out in his prime. To me, the drastic change in his accuracy/performance came after he broke his right collarbone. He has not been the same since. His diva-ness has never changed though but is no longer being "accepted" or "covered up" by his play on the field....like it was in the earlier years. IMO, we need to move on from him in order to let MLF grow as a head coach, something he can't due under Rodger's leadership. There is no doubt in my mind Rodgers does what Rodgers wants and the game plan is set based on what Rodgers wants to do.

Rodgers should watch rookie backup QBs tapes to learn how to throw a pass to receivers under 14' tall. Packer D-backs and corners have so much talent and so little brains. Amazing to hear the announcers say that "Rodgers brought the Packers back". Could have said the Martinez pick, the Lazard catch, the defense giving up only 3 points in the 2nd half. Nooooo, Rodgers (who stunk up the field all game) brought them back. They did not win because of him, but in spite of him. Can't see the Packers going anywhere other than one and done.

Lazard didn't make the throw on that key play. Aaron Jones didn't throw that screen pass to himself that allowed the gain into FG territory at the end. Rodgers is not what he used to be and/or his WRs are not what he has had earlier in his career. But to suggest Rodgers needs to learn from a rookie is beyond stupid.

Packers 9 penalties to the Lions 4, got to admit the refs tried as hard as they could to give it to Detroit.

Barely beating the 3-12 Lions. Tough to look at them as a legitimate playoff team.

A lot of energy laid out in the queens dismantling last Monday. The Pack does not have the depth at the skill positions to put a team away in a hurry anymore. Don't cry about Rodgers. He didn't let the cupboard get cleaned out. Worry about Gutedkunst securing a couple playmakers in the off-season to get some firepower for the O.

The Packers could definitely upgrade at the WR position, but to flatly ignore Rodgers' poor throws and unreliability when it comes to going through his progressions is either ignorant or dishonest.

2019 has been laced with far too many poor throws and missed targets. Rodgers actually leading a WR has become a rarity. It has become the rule that a WR need to break stride in order to attempt a catch behind them or a body catch. Today, you told another poster that the incompletions were a result of poor WR play; not overthrows, and told them to "watch the game." As another poster pointed out, a reputable game tape analyst reported that a full 16 of rodgers incompletions were uncatchable overthrows- tying an NFL single game record.

Yes, WRs have underperformed (namely MVS and Gmo) but Maybe you need to re-access Rodgers' play over the 2019 season. Too many of his throws have been sub par, or he's simply not seeing the open recieving option- generally because he's not looking.

Hard to feel really good about this win but I'll take it...THIS team is NOW Aaron Jones team.

I've been a staunch Rodgers fan throughout this entire season and last year even though he was injured. HOW this dude continues to IGNORE the middle of the field for most of the game after having so much success in the middle last week (Finally) is just mind boggling.

Mason Crosby is worth EVERY dime they pay him AND a 3rd contract. The old gray haired guy is MONEY under pressure!!!

Nice job by the defense in the 2nd half especially. I love me some ZaDarius Smith...The Due better be All-Pro this year and IMO the DPOY.

Can you blame him for ignoring the middle when receivers drop huge first drive passes down the middle in back to back games? Rodgers dies suck but so do his receivers. Packers RB is pretty good... let’s use him and stop fucking around passing.

One question that kept plaguing me throughout the game: What’s wrong with Aaron Rodgers? Does he have an injury that we don’t know of? Has Father Time caught up to this great quarterback? Has he not kept in shape this year? Is there some personal issue that is sapping his mind, strength and/or game? Has the new offense been too much for him to absorb so that he is on overload? Why has his stellar play dropped off so much? It’s a great mystery to me.

His mechanics are terrible and he could get away with it when he was 25. He’s not. Watch Brady & Brees throw the ball. Much better mechanics IMO. That’s much of the issue. WR drops don’t help a QB get in rhythm. Predictable play calling won’t either. I will say that if the Packers can’t start playing seriously until the 2nd half of their playoff games and #12 won’t get over his insecurity and reluctance, I don’t predict good things. Hope I’m wrong because I really like our players. We will find out shortly.

I’m kinda glad that it was close......it gives them more motivation that they need to get better to win anything in the playoffs. Even when the Pack was down by 2 TDs, I had a feeling that they would pull it out in the end. And that’s exactly what happened. We have to accept that any wins in the near future will be continue to be ugly.

What a thoroughly unpleasant game to watch--but the Packers got it done by taking "winning ugly" to an exponential level. Even the game-winning field goal was ugly.

We've got to find a way to get some receivers open in the middle of the field on short-to-intermediate routes--and once that happens, the receivers have to catch the ball. I know some of these throws were slightly behind the receivers, but then again, they were slightly catchable. I know; easier said than done. Not so with some of the long sideline throws, of which there were WAY too many. This issue of too many deep balls has to be addressed in the off-season.

If the Packers take a QB in the draft, where will it be? It seems to me the priorities are still WR, ILB, and DL (gashed up the middle again!) By the way, the Detroit offensive line was quite impressive today.

Glad to get that bye, rest up, and get all of our guys ready--need all of our starting O-Line and J. Williams good to go. I'm also kind of relieved not to have to play the Vikings again so soon, or if at all.

Is it strange that you have Adams, the top WR and he can only get the ball on the side of the field?

Thrilled with the Bye Week - my heart and blood pressure will need that extra week to recover.

What a way to end the regular season, tie game, just a few ticks left on the clock, a snap, a hold, a kick, the refs arms going straight up and the Pack sits at 13 & 3 with a Bye week!

MLF and crew need to use every minute of the next 2 weeks to figure out how to improve their passing game and get everyone on the same page and, shore up the run up the middle of the D.

Will Jamal Williams return to the line-up and any info about Lindsey and Bulaga ?

Yup, an ugly win but it earned the Pack their Bye week.

AR can no longer make the easy throws let alone the longer ones, overthrowing has become routine except of course to kumerow when he finally underthrows. we have been winning despite 12, with a whole lot of luck, barely eking this out against detroit's third string. we might be the worst 13-3 team ever in the history of the NFL. AR needs to be bit more teachable and less arrogant: go back to basics with footwork. he is now playing as a bottom quartile qb. and why may i ask is jimmy graham getting any snaps?

If the season mantra has been "win ugly" then this was the ugliest of them all. How awful was Rodgers at times. I mean you could have never watched a football game in your life and realized that this number 12 guy wasn't throwing it where he should. But like he so often does though he was able to laser focus at the end and get it done. For all the haters this team missed Jamal Williams out there this week. The d was good second half and was the spark. Now they have a week off for Bulaga and Linsley and Lazard and Williams to get ready

I would love to see Rodgers lay off the home run attempts, and move the chains a bit more. That stuff will end their run in a heartbeat against playoff caliber defense. He has consistently been underwhelming this year, and no one is above asking “are we getting a return on the teams investment” on them.

Love the win, but it’s tough to get stoked about squeekin one out on the Lions.

We marched down the field 5 yards at a time. Packers were unstoppable.

Soon as his hand/Oline got healthy... it was back to home run ball. Several trophies have likely been lost to Rodgers greatness.... and now Father Time is coming to challenge him.

Another truthbomb!

It's all right there for fans to see if they just look.

Adams out for a few games? SUddenly, Rodgers is handing the ball off to Jones regularly, passes are coming out on time, to varied WRs, on short and intermediate routes, taking what the defense is giving- and the offense looks unstoppable.

Adams comes back? revert to holding the ball too long, under utilization of Jones, inconsistent offense that can't sustain drives repeatedly.

Not an indictment of Adams- he's a legitimate threat and a top 5 WR in this league. Just an affirmation that the system is bigger than the individual. It's all right there to be put together and start clicking. One man is fudging it all up.

Hello edp1959...

How in the world do you DEFEND Rodgers performance in this game?

6/19 in the 1st half...
Therefore, tell all of us here "....Was every Pack receiver at fault?" or was Rodgers at fault for playing sandlot ball and being stubborn about his preferences--above and beyond MLF game plan and what the defense allowed?

Rodgers just REFUSED to accept the underneath throws in the first half and until the Martinez INT; Rodgers continued his stubborn downfield, "sandlot" throws.

I am starting to agree with Oppy--Rodgers is showing he IS a Diva and one of many issues.

You are talking to people with the acumen of fantasy football wizards. Patricia's secondary was playing a good game and their front four controlled a lot of gaps throughout the game. Bulaga and Lindsley went out. Rodgers was off target on some tosses but many were in the zone needed to be caught. Where is the separation beside Adams showing his moves. The rest of the receivers are pedestrian with the exception of Lazard on the jump balls. Give Detroit credit. How did the Defense look facing a Rookie QB and letting him do his thing for most of three quarters? Team Win.
