Gut Reactions: Packers beat Broncos

Aaron's gut reactions from the Packers win over the Broncos.

  • Fits and starts, but ultimately a win is a win and I'll take it.
  • Love how the defense created opportunities for the offense.
  • Don't want to live off turnovers all year, but as the offense is finding its way, its nice to be given some gifts.
  • Denver had a great gameplan and their offense did a great job staying ahead of the sticks for most of the day.
  • Blake Martinez looked passive for much of the day, as though the fine he got for tackling last week made him hesistant.
  • Up and down game from MVS. One really bad drop, made a couple nice plays as well.
  • Jaire Alexander is so good. That turnover he created was beautiful.
  • Loved getting Vitale involved in the passing game.
  • Why are they bothering with Jimmy Graham? Seriously. It's embarrasing that they trot him out there.
  • I don't know if they were trying to do more two-gapping up front and were unable to get off their blocks, but the defensive line looked like they were manhandled on those long TD drives by Denver.
  • Preston. Za'Darius. What absolute finds in free agency.
  • Some brutal tackling attempts from the Packers today.
  • Rough day at the office for Kevin King.
  • Elgton Jenkins seemed to hold up ok.
  • Great play by Savage to get his first career interception.
  • I love that the defense celebrate every big play together.
  • Aaron Rodgers was as off throwing the football today as he was on last week.
  • And what was with the sequence where he just kept throwing it into the turf? Just some hot garabe from the offense in the 3rd quarter.
  • Jamaal Williams picked up some tough yards and did a nice job in the passing game as well.
  • Lots to work on in a very short time before the Eagles come to town in four days.
  • Go Pack.

How about that Preston Smith guy so many people complained [Stockholder] about never having 10 sacks in a season. Big plays late in the 4th in all 3 games. With 3 more sacks today. He and Z have been money in the bank.

I could be wrong but I could've sworn you were one of the ones complaining that Gute paid too much for an OLB who's never had 10 sack in a season previously. There were quite a few of them complaining. If I'm wrong my apologies.

Sack and fumble recovery by Gary was huge. He looked great on the sack. Moved the tackle out and in and out again. It was the kind of play I'd expect.out of Von Miller.

3-0! Hot Damn.

Rashaan looked frighteningly explosive on that down. I didn't make it to training camp this year, and now I know what all the beat reporters and other observers were talking about.. It is actually unsettling seeing a man that big and strong move that suddenly.

The comment I made to a friend was "That looked like Rashan Gary playing the way Rashan Gary is supposed to be able to play, but everybody says he can't actually play."

Three games, and still waiting for that "LaFleur offense" to dominate a game. Fast starts the last two games, then it disintegrates into fits and starts. Rodgers and LaFleur are not meshing well. This was a big topic all off season, and fans were repeatedly told this story was overblown and exaggerated. But was it? The question was always if Rodgers would buy into the new offense. Everyone said all the right things. And now the team is struggling offensively, while thriving defensively.

It's been three games and the offense has improved each week. It is a brand new offense. New offenses rarely come out of the gate hot, especially against some of the top defenses in the league.

The "Rodgers and LaFleur do not mesh well" stuff is sensationalist garbage for which there is no... and I repeat - absolutely zero evidence.

There very well may be issues there, but at this point it's only guessing, not based in fact or evidence.

Sure seems having the Offense play at least 4 full quarters in pre-season would have been HUGE! Is that an understatement?

However, fortunately the defense has carried the load and we are 3 & 0. Still.....pre-season would have been a good idea to play the offense.

- Offense is improving.
- Denver RBs looked like men playing among boys
- Another game like this and Allison gets the nickname of "Drive Killer"
- No sacks on Rodgers
- Congrats to Gary on his first sack
- The Smiths really paying off

No matter what it looked like at times. It's a nice win of a game that the packers should have won, which isn't always as easy it appears on paper.

Rodgers and Lafleur are still not on the same page. As Mr Nagler pointed out, there was a bizarre sequence of plays with Rodgers almost petulantly dumping the ball into the turf. Then there was a moment caught on camera where Rodgers and Lafleur were arguing on the sideline. The offense is a mess for the most part. Very few slants, quick-hitting plays, or even good deep plays with the exception of TD pass to MVS and long throw to Adams. The offense looks out of sync and again in the second half had no rhythm. The defense will not always be able to bail the offense out and in this game takeaways account for 14 points!

I agree Harold Drake. The offense needs to improve, and the sooner the better , obviously. I don't see us winning on the road at Dallas in 2 weeks unless the offense becomes more consistent and the D learns to stop the run.

Dallas had 230 yards rushing today (although against a shit Miami team), but still. Dallas has a good Oline and running back. I hate Dallas. We must win that game . Go Pack

"Rodgers almost petulantly dumping the ball into the turf"
If there's a knock against Rodgers, (besides holding the ball too long), it's that if he disagrees with the play call or his receiver makes a mistake he pouts.

I don't get the hate for Martinez, I mean double digit in tackles two in a row, yeah that sucks! Smith Brothers are money, Gary is gonna keep getting better and better, Great snag by Savage, what a play by J stealing that rock from the rookie. There is no rift or divide between the Coach and the QB, it is a growing process and that was coaching going on after the two dirt balls. 3-0, Win Ugly or go home!

What about how Jaire continues to take number one receivers and limits any production from them whatsoever? Sanders who? Diggs? Thielen? Not only is he a shut down corner, he creates turnovers. He finally got one today. Reminded me of a Woodson headsup play. He should have had two to three more picks too in the last few games. The Smiths are getting a ton of numbers, but I have to imagine that Jaire making the go to receiver on every team irrelevant is a HUGE part of that equation.

Every week the offense scores more points than the week before. We can get all upset about where this O is at if we want, we can analyze #12 all we want, but I think it is better if we just all R-E-L-A-X and let people adjust. It will happen. Have some faith.

Faith is believing without any objective reason for belief.

Every week the offense scores more points than the week before. Sure, that's true. Let me ask you this: How many of those points today were after the offense was handed the ball inside the red zone via a defensive turnover?

There are definitely reasons to be concerned about the offense.

Boyle's not my boy and I'm not even sure he can develop into an NFL ready backup, much less a starter.

Rodgers is the most talented QB in the league, but he has an ego issue which seems to get in the way of his ability to execute an offense as it is designed. He needs to get it under control and run the offense. Actually do what he claims to want to do- take coaching. If he can do those two things, the sky is the limit.

With that said, he's also starting to get to an age where other top tier QBs have proven you can remain on top of your game if you adjust your game- something Rodgers seems compelled to avoid at all costs. Honestly, IMO, the Packers should not go another year without either a journeyman Back up QB, or a legitimate candidate to groom as a successor to Rodgers on the roster.. I'd love to see them spend some real draft capital and make a move for the future on a young, promising QB sooner than later.

Let me preface this with: A win is a win is a win. This defense is amazing. They are an utter joy to watch. They are opportunistic. They are ballhawks. They are pressure-creating machines. They make every possession a joy to watch. Even when they are giving up yards by the dozens you just know they can snag that ball back. What a turn of events in all our favors! Even in a game where Denver's O-Line was creating big gaps and the Pack were giving up yards, it didn't really matter. Well, it didn't matter at all: 3-0.

AND, that being said, I am already at a crossroads with the Packers offense. AND, it has little to do with LaFleur (who, I fondly refer to as 'Petals'). Well, it definitely has something to do with Petals - he's the coordinator and designer after all. BUT, if I'm being honest, it has everything else to do with everything else. The drops. The penalties. The early timeouts. The delays of game (see 'penalties'). The lack of flow. And, in this feeling of 'Gut Reactions' I have to ask our fanbase: "At what point in time are we ready to start bringing Aaron Rodgers to task?". I'm dead serious here. And this isn't an overreaction imho. At what point in time are we going to question the blatant overthrows, the audibles at the LOS that cause delays of games and/or early timeouts, the possessions where he holds and holds and holds the ball? Why is he continually given the benefit of the doubt or, more importantly perhaps, why is his brazen arrogance toward any question concerning his inefficacy accepted? He is absolutely just as much responsible for this poor offensive showing. AND, I think I am remiss if I do not point out: he is every bit a part of offensive staleness going on 2 plus seasons now.

I don't claim to know 'Why'. I don't claim to say 'He's the sole cause'. That would be ludicrous. BUT, my goodness, if we can't call out his less than stellar play - from a sure first-ballot HOF'er - we aren't doing our 'duty' as fans of the greatest franchise in the NFL. We need more. We need better. And it starts in his hands.

I've never had much bad to say about AR other than he holds the ball too long. However there was one series where he looked horrible with overthrows and bad pocket presence. When he got back to the bench LaFluer walks over and asks what the hell is going on and Rodgers just snapped at him. There was also a play where Von Miller got around Bulaga and Rodgers peeled out of the pocket to that side instead of stepping up and hitting a receiver. It's like the scramble drill is so ingrained into his very being that I think it's going to be harder than people believe to get him to play from the pocket more.

Bizarro, I thought Aaron Rodgers reminded me of Bart Starr today. Because Bart played in the day of calling your own plays and all, he had a feel for MANAGING the game. He rarely did things that hurt the team. He always protected the ball and you could count on him not to screw it up at the end of a tough game.

We have a defense, and a really good punter, and as long as we don't turn it over on offense, 28 is going to be enough to win. Keeping our QB upright and healthy all season is more important than gaudy stats and high scores. We scored 28, we didn't turn it over, and Aaron Rodgers didn't get sacked. I think it's just fine.

The offense will continue to improve if we can keep Rodgers on the practice field. There's adequate blocking and adequate skill position players to move the ball and score points.

I can respect this take. Well stated. I think I am more disenfranchised with the overthrows, frankly. A-Rod obviously can't do anything about MVS and G-Mo dropping balls. That's on them.

But, the offense as a whole needs to get in line with the snap counts; the play getting in; and the penalties. It's new, I get it. What I don't get, at this point, is the same long drawn out plays with a lack of urgency in terms of getting the ball out to skill positions.

Also, what is going on with the lack of looks for Davante in the red zone? Um, this guy is clearly our most skilled offensive player. I honestly don't think he's gotten a single schemed look his way. THAT is on the coach.

Jannes, that may be Sternberger or Tonyan (eg getting open & catching); So, Lewis caught another ball today...what 15+ yds. I like the play calling/execution much better when AR distributes the ball to 5 or 6 guys to keep the D on their toes they have to cover everybody! With everything going on in the heat of battle, l for one, am certainly prepared to cut MLF some slack with "getting by" offensive performances. All the players know they haven't brought their best yet. It'll be fun when that happens. Honestly let me share this, I'm not too sure that most HC's should be the play caller....especially in this system where you have AR as the leader. Moreover, IMHO, i think AR sees the D perhaps better and knows based on his read/experience better than most that set foot on the field and that includes coaches. If there are fundamental issues any star QB is digressing to, then (at this level) let's all be grown ups and try to do the right thing, even if it is to admit a shortcoming/mistake.

Is it me or does it seem like Rodgers never throws the ball in the middle of the field. It just seems like he’s scared to throw the ball in the middle. I watch all these other quarterbacks throw some balls to some tight windows and utilizing their tight ends in the middle of the field and to me it seems like the Packers don’t get any of those type of plays. It looks like it isn’t for lack of trying it’s just that Rodgers is unwilling to throw those balls. I would like to see him be a little bit more aggressive and not be scared of throwing a pick.

Can you explain where you are coming up with this last 2 years stuff? In 2017, GB started the season 4-1 and had one of the top offenses, even with a significantly slowed Jordy and Cobb. Then the dirty hit from Barr took AR out and GB lost 8 of their remaining 11 games with Hundley throwing only to Adams all year. There was no run game, no defense and the OL was trash. AR came back at the end of the season and tried to save a playoff berth despite everyone knowing he should have just sat it out and healed up 100%. And let's be honest - at that point I think everyone wanted Hundley to lose out the rest of the season so GB could get a higher draft pick. Last season, AR was carted off the field in the 1st half of the very first game and then played a full NFL schedule with a fractured leg, no run game, a trash OL, no defense, a bum for a coach, rookie WRs and no practice reps until week 8 or so. How was the offense with Kizer at the helm? Atrocious you say? Exactly. GB as a team last year was decimated with injuries across the board on both sides of the ball. Aaron Jones didn't play the 1st 2 games and everyone knows about the bs call on Clay costing a division win. Despite all of that, GB was actually still in the running for a playoff berth up until the Rams game when Monty decided to go rouge. GB was going blow for blow with NE till the A Jones fumble and a very timely trick play called by Belichik. And again, I think the majority wanted GB to lose out in hopes of better draft position.

Fast forward to this season: GB STILL has no respectable running game, a suspect OL (they did look better this game), and WRs that struggle to get open all while learning a new system with no preseason action for the starting offense. How can you possibly expect perfection? How can you not expect a bumpy ride in the beginning? These 1st 4 games are basically GB's preseason. Despite all of that, GB is sitting at 3-0 with 2 wins against strong divisional opponents sporting top tier defenses and the offense has improved every week and put up more points than the previous week. Why is everyone so quick to criticize AR for making a couple of bad throws yet so reluctant to compliment the greater majority of throws on the money? Why is no one taking WRs dropping balls placed right in their hands or failing to get open to task? Why is everyone just skipping over the fact GBs run game has been non-existent in 2 of 3 games so far as if that has nothing to do with the offense not looking so good? If you're going to "call out AR for his less than stellar play" at least be consistent and call out EVERYONE - name by name - for their less than stellar play as well, including the HC for not making proper adjustments in game to keep successfully attacking a defense when they take away what was successful early in the game. Too much of the blame is being wrongfully placed on one man's shoulders. There are 10 other Packers on the field with AR at all times. Is he perfect? Of course not. Has he lost some of his ability? Sure - age and injuries are obviously starting to catch up. But do you really think without AR at the helm GB is 3-0 and 2-0 in the division?

I'm sick of hearing about "audibles at the LoS" - are you in the huddle? Do you know what play is called in? Do you have any proof it was actually changed? Do you realize not every call at the line is an audible to a different play and that a good portion of what you're hearing is actually protection schemes being called out? Lots of times teams give a certain player like a Khalil Mack a "nickname" and when that is called it's to alert the OL/RB/TE (without alerting said player) to make sure they block that player because he is most likely blitzing. If AR was calling audibles to change a play you would see the formation change pre snap A LOT. But you don't because that's not what is happening - and no, motioning a WR or TE in closer to help chip or block isn't a formation change. Seriously, there is so much more involved pre-snap than the average fan is aware of. There's a lot more than just walk to the LoS and say hike. The QB has to get the call - which is usually 2 or 3 plays at one time, convey those 2-3 plays to 10 other guys, get them in the proper formation, and then decide which of the 2-3 plays has the best chance for success based on what the defense is showing and also decipher how much of the look the defense is showing is just for pre-snap show to hide what they are doing themselves. If even 1 guy doesn't do his job - especially an OLmen or a RB/TE failing to pick up a blitzer, the play is most likely a bust. If WRs aren't beating their man off the LoS, the OL is stressed by having to maintain blocks longer than usual. This translates to a QB having to hold the ball longer till there is a target to throw to or a QB pressured and flushed from the pocket or worse - sacked. If the run game isn't working, play action is ineffective. In an offense that relies on play action, this is a major issue as we have seen through the 1st 3 games of the season so far. We have seen the Bears, Vikings and Broncos all having their LBs crash on the RBs while bringing the safeties up to play over the top coverage on short/medium routes because they know beyond Davante there isn't much to fear in the passing game and getting burned on a deep ball by MVS or Allison is a risk they are willing to take. MVS had a nice game for once and caught everyone off guard with the streak up the seam on the free play. Hopefully that continues. The play to Vitale was very, very nice and exploited the LBs crashing with the safeties playing up. No one saw that coming. MLF needs to recognize what the defense is doing and abandon the "stay balanced" plan when necessary to take advantage of those kinds of things more often. Go with what is working. Don't just keep banging your head against a wall to prove a point about being balanced.

Huh? This doesn't even make sense. Who didn't retain who? Pills are bad.

"Rodgers has no accountability and when and if he does his arrogance overshadows his humbleness to improve"

As evidenced by AR wearing a wristband in an effort to get the play calls and offense flowing more efficiently?

H Drake is right. The body language alone between AR and Coach is something to worry about. Not sure which failed plays were AR audibles, but from Aaron's grumbling it seemed like he was following script and almost "told you so"ing LaFleur. This needs to get put right, and I hope it does. Whichever guy called the fullback pass should be given the keys--that was awesome.

If we can get anything for Graham, I'd say grab it. So frustrating to watch him flail about.

Jaire jersey on the list--c'mon Santa, help a guy out. So fun to watch. And Savage is a rookie beast.

Interesting to see what happens with Philly receivers on TNF--I think we hold up and dominate again. The Fart after Wins dude better start making the chili.

A win is good but the Broncos exploited the weak point of the D, running and passing up the middle, which will be become the blueprint for the rest of the Packer opponents this season. And Pettine has to do something about the tackling, it was horrid. Yeah, I know, the CBA won't let them practice tackling; boo-hoo, whiney-whine. Other teams tackle, Just get it done.

As I watched The tackling issue repeatedly, I saw GB defenders trying to tackle shoulders to chest area of the runner. If one would focus on the waist they might actually bring him down.
As to Graham, does he have an upside? And how bad are the other TEs if Graham is getting the majority of snaps?

I can’t complain about 3-0 but man this offense has to get going there’s going to be games where the defense isn’t up to scratch and we’re going to need to offense to pull its weight. Even though he’s been a second half QB through 3 games Wentz is no joke and if we’re holding on to a 3 point lead in the 4th he can make it happen.

Another good win, my observations:

Packers may have set a record for most missed tackles in a game.

MVS needs to catch the football.

Aaron Jones is the real deal.

Graham does more harm than good out there.

Rodgers isn't going to buy into a short passing game system.

Random thoughts. Pad level not too high this week. That is a coaching issue that should have caught first game out. I have no idea why the O line coach was having the interior three set so high, flat-out stupid in the pro game. Difference was night a day in pass pro sets. Jenkins was OK, all one can ask for in first start. No glaring mistakes, footwork still a bit slow, he will get better. Turner light years better, fixing his mechanics made all the difference in pass pro and getting his first step in run game. Linsedy? was fine especially in line calls all game, maybe he had the same issues as Taylor and Turner did. If I'm MLF I am pretty angry at my position coaches for not catching something so critical sooner. Offense better, still a work in progress. Amusing to watch Rodgers when he does not get his way on play calls. MLF is not taking any crap, good for him. 3 and 0. 3 and 0, go pack. (I need a [root]beer....)

Hopefully fans will give Gary a break and let the young man develop. Fumble recovery/sack.
Opposing teams get paid as well, with some of the finest athletes. We can expect some of them scoring against us, we just need to limit the number of times.
I remember several Super Bowl winners with the defense leading the way.
Lafleur and Rodgers will work everything out. Go Pack Go!!!

I am not as down on MVS as some others here. He had one bad drop, but had six catches and was an integral part of the offense. It was good to see a WR besides Adams get heavily involved. Now we need Allison to figure this offense out and become a legit #3.

I am more concerned with Rodgers' buy-in to MLF's offense. There definitely seems to be a disconnect there which was highlighted by Rodgers throwing the ball into the dirt on three plays during a second half drive. MLF and QB1 need to get on the same page or this offense may never gel.

Kudos to the defensive turnover machine - WOW!

Great to be 3-0. Yes the offense needs to get better. Much better. However, it is a huge benefit that the Packers are 3-0 without playing a great offensive game. The longer this team plays in the new system, the better they will get. Everyone also seems to forget that the Bears, Vikings and Broncos are all excellent defense first teams.

They need to give it time and that is exactly what being 3-0 does. Now Pack have a beat up Eagles team coming in. They were expected to be another solid defensive team but they haven’t been that yet. Good opportunity for 4-0.

PAul Hackett's version of the WCO is a far cry from what most would consider the modern Walsh WCO.. in fact, I'd go so far as to say Hackett reverted back to the WCO offense predecessor- the Vertical offense- moreso than sticking to the modern WCO. MM himself corrected reporters on numerous occasions stating that his offense is more of a vertical offense than west coast.. and that's pretty evident to anyone who had paid attention to how the Packers attacked a defense under MM compared to, let's say, Mike Holmgren.

Now, since the Packers OC is Paul Hackett's son, there could be some cross over. But the issue is that 1) LeFleur's offense isn't your standard WCO, it's markedly run heavy. 2) Vic Fangio stated specifically it's MM's plays, he did not state that it was generic WCO 3) Why on earth would a new head coach be playing outside of his playbook for any reason?

So no one heard the announcers on 1st and 20 and then on 2nd and 20 "Rodgers, with no where to go with the football, just throws it away." Pay attention folks. He threw those balls there on purpose because there was no one open. And because he is so damn good at protecting the ball, especially that far backed up because of a holding penalty, he threw them low and away when no one was open or even looking for the ball rather than into a crowd trying to force something not there. Learn situational football before complaining about something and looking foolish. Every play isnt going to be successful, especially needing 20 yards for a 1st from inside your own 20. Would you be happier if threw a 50/50 ball and got picked at the 25 or 30 in a 1 score game? Or maybe he should have held the ball longer so Von or Chubb had a few more seconds to get to him and sack him near the 10 or 15? Make up your minds. You're not happy if he holds the ball waiting for someone to break free - you're not happy if he gets rid of it quickly on an empty play.

BTW - did you guys notice the Broncos were running the play clock down to 1 before snapping the ball all game too? Know why? Because they were playing ball control to keep their defense fresh and keep AR off the field. They came in wanting to run the ball and control the clock and that's exactly what they did all game long. It's literally a strategy that's been around for decades. It's kind of hard to get into any kind of rhythm when you've been sitting on the sidelines watching the other team pound the ball for drives lasting 8+ minutes.

So during the 2nd offensive possession, when A-Rod overthrew a WIDE OPEN Tonyan in the upper flat; then overthrew another pass to his nearside, and then overthrew Allison wide open for the 1st down...was that to protect the ball? Because, he wasn't pressured. He simply overthrew the ball. Fact.

When Rodgers then under-threw a wide open MVS for a first down in the 3rd quarter on the near TV side - when he clearly rushed his throw even though his chasing Linemen was 3-5 steps out was that also a need to simply throw the ball away?!? What was the excuse there?

NO. This is the thing, my friend. It's a mixed bag. BUT what definitely isn't a mixed bag is the lack of much due criticism on his part. He isn't playing well enough. He isn't devoid of criticism. Yes, he avoids TO's and holds on to the ball in lieu of jeopardizing the ball BUT he also definitely misses plays/overthrows plays/ and isn't good enough for a first ballot HOF QB at present. He just isn't. We need more.

The number of times I've heard the booth say "Nobody open, so Rodgers just throws it away" AFTER Rodgers literally ignored a wide open WR coming across the middle underneath because he wanted to hold the ball and look for the deep shot to Adams or Nelson...

If you think the network booth call is the end-all be-all of what's actually going on between the hashes, there's not much we can discuss on the topic.

As to the play clock: Are you insinuating the Packers are afraid of a Joe Flacco led offense? If the Broncos are trying to run clock to keep Rodgers off the field, don't you think it would be in the best interests of the Packers to run as many plays as they can when they actually have the ball in their hands? When you are a pass-driven offense (as much as the Packers new offense SHOULDN'T be, it still is with Rodgers under center), do you understand that snapping the ball with 1 or zero seconds left on the play clock nearly every down allows the defense to jump the snap count when rushing the passer?

Lastly, can you breathe with Rodgers balls jammed this deeply down your throat?

But hey, let's march the man out to central square - crucify him and burn him at the stake for not making every throw perfect. Good God you sound retarded. Learn the game man.

Oppy - you mean call more runs that were going no where? A Jones had 19 yards on 10 carries. J Will had a whopping 59 yards on 12. How can you run more plays without getting 1sts? Hmm? Yes AR had some bad throws - no mention of the drive extending drops on money throws though? No mention of the running game being stifled 2 out of 3 games so far? No of course not. Let's just criticize AR for not being perfect all of the time. No one is afraid of Flacco dumbass. Do you understand you control the clock to keep the opposing offense off the field and to give your defense a breather after being on the field so long? Do you not understand the defense playing so much every game is not sustainable for an entire season? But hey, let's snap the ball with 15 seconds left on the play clock go 3 and out using up 45 seconds of game time and not give the gassed defense any rest or time to gather up to make some adjustments on the sideline. Makes sense. That's not increasing risk of injuries at all. And again, I ask you, what is the point of throwing a 4-5 yard pass on 3rd and long when you have guys in zone protecting the sticks giving up the underneath route waiting to pounce and gang tackle the ball carrier? Hmm? The underneath route is left open on purpose because it doesn't pose much risk of extending a drive genius. This is football 101 and all teams do it. The difference is most other teams actually have playmakers at WR that can get open and make something happen on their own. I'd say learn the game but critical thinking obviously isn't your strong suit. Nice comment about balls. Did you think of that all by yourself or did you have help from your mommy?

This is why I don't drink when I watch the Packers game.
It's also why I don't go out to the tavern to watch the Packers game.

...because I like to actually watch the Packers game.

One of my buddies said this offense looks like the Titans last year.

I didn't know what to say. Don't think I even watched a whole game of theirs last year. Bits and pieces against the Colts that's about it.

Is he right ?

Thanks

A one-armed Marcus Mariota. And, a healthy Aaron Rodgers.

He is not right.

We need more from A-Rod. Absolutely. BUT, Mariota is nowhere near his caliber.

This statement is utterly absurd. Absurd is an understatement. God forbid Packers football fans discuss the shortcomings of their team while simultaneously celebrating the amazingness of their 3 victories. I mean, I don't even know what to say of this dismissiveness.

Worried about AR . Packers got MM out of his ear ..now he is pushing back with ML .. I have always been a supporter of AR ...but he has to make an effort to get on the same page as ML.. Its a bad look . and if he continues his outburst on and off the field it will spread to others on the offensive side of the ball.. One reason why I don't like HC calling plays .. it absurd ..either be a head coach or be OC/ Play Caller .. you can't do both effectively .. and it opens the opportunity for conflict... When you have conflict with QB and PC the head coach can step in and cool things down.. now no where to go ... lucky we are winning or this will be a disaster.. better hope we don't have any long losing streaks .. or things will get messy very fast !!!

Comment is parallel to Harold Drakes: IMHO, there are still some odd offensive play calls that were down right stoned. Now, i have a strong hunch several fans noticed (or tried to lip read) that AR didn't look at all pleased with some of those calls--he had at least one face that read: ok, i ran the dumb play, told you it wasn't going to work...so, it's almost like he didn't give full effort. Trust me, i love AR and the whole manner in which he carries himself, but i saw something unique today...hope i wasn't imagining it. At the end of the day, Aaron Rodgers is still the man, understands all the various nuiances of the game and can both physically and strategically outgun the opponent. Those are his two greatest strengths and the third is his sincere leadership, fourth his love of his teammates...
Conclusion: as AR so astutely stated earlier in pre-season, it will take some time to get to know each other and his system, we get along well-we both want to win! Folks, strong competitors may lose their edge every now & then, but i believe it's because all of their being is channeled into performing to the high standard. By edge i mean poise, and/or their playmaking advantage.

The OL got their butts whooped in the run game. Jones had nowhere to run. Need to get this unit jelling or Rodgers will have to pass 45 times a game and the way he is throwing the ball its not a pretty scenario. What the hell happened to this guy?

A win is a win. Look I dont like AR's body language out there sometimes. I dont like the fact that he has made some very bad overthrows and seems to run into trouble and throws the ball away when he used to move around and hit somebody. I really dont like the fact that the receivers drop to many catchable balls. I also dont like the fact that the OLine has trouble blocking for our running backs and today our running backs missed so many cut backs and ran wide into the defense. Yes the D played well but how many times did Flacco complete long 3rd downs . Martinez blew coverage on a tight end for a 3rd and 15 pickup and there was a 40 yard gain when King gave up a really big play because he stopped running. That is his guy and supposed to be his strength. So really what I am saying that if you look at any team and any segment of those teams there is any playing the perfect game yet. But if we dont get it straightened out we will be getting some L's instead of W's.

Food for thought: Preston Smith has 6 sacks in the first 3 games. The season sacks record is 22.5. Time will tell if he can stay healthy and stay anywhere near the pace he's set - but if he can average 1.5 sacks per game for the remainder of the season he obliterates the season sacks record with 25.5. :)

My gut reaction after the game was that we don't need an offense anymore, just put up 17 or better and the defense got your back. How refreshing. My gut reaction during the game... we are becoming the Monsters of the Mid-West, with a few more games like these how can you say no. Pettine for coach of the year but would they give it to MF instead..

Reminded me of Elway's last two years - kept him funneling the ball to backs and short quick passes with goal to keep him upright -- just enough to win games, but not putting himself at risk. Not a bad plan later in the year if you can win now that way. Since face it, if Boyle has to take a significant snap GB is in trouble!

I have no issues with Arod throwing the ball away. I think he's smartly leaning on the defense until the "O" can get their legs under them. Remember this is a new offense for him. He's not going to fire to the second and third options sub-consciously as in the past, this early in the season. Also, remember Fangio has always given Rodgers fits, and the Denver defense has some real talent.

They have a very good opportunity to get to 4-0 prior to a mini-bye. GO PACK GO! Pettine for President!

I did believe the D and an improved STs would have to carry team as the O found consistency and an identity early in the season. I did not see a chance at 4-0. Hoped for 3-1....2-2 more likely.

But I did not think the D would be this good taking the ball away and pressuring and sacking the QB. And I did not foresee Scott going from below average punter to the top punting weapon in the NFL.....he’s a field flipper and a huge ally for the D.

Glass half full for me....the O will continue to improve. And if the young playmaking D and STs can improve its woeful tackling....watch out!

Pettine is preaching tackling and turnovers. Turnovers? Check. Tackling? Ugh.

Rodgers arrogance over shadows any humbleness to improve....LaFleur and Rodgers will never see eye to eye and or mesh....no coach would unless he’s totally given the keys
Draft his successor ASAP
Trade Graham now

Long conversation and still little mention of the main reason for the bad offense - Allison. TEs also a big problem but when your slot receiver in two of the first three games has one catch for -1 yards ... doesn’t everyone see a problem? Allison’s incompetence allows Adams double coverage, a stacked D against the run, and Rodgers having to hold the ball. I also don’t see much innovation in LaFleur’s offense. With Rodgers he should be using the pass to set up the run yet seems fixated on the opposite. I think Rodgers discomfort is not only with the receivers but with the scheme and I tend to believe an experienced all time great QB with his mental acuity is probably more right than last year’s Titan’s OC. Shepherd will get lots of offensive snaps this week and hopefully soon Allison, and Graham, are benched.
