Gut Reactions: Packers beat Bears

Aaron's gut reactions from the Packers win over the Bears

  • Maybe winning ugly IS their identity
  • It's like MVS is allergic to the ball
  • Why you would ever throw a WR screen toward Jaire's side is beyond me. Guy is absolutely tenacious when it comes to breaking those up.
  • Does this team practice any kind of hurry up offense?
  • The Packers offensive line couldn't block the Bears in pass pro in Week 1 and today they pretty much stoned them.
  • Thank the pressure from Za'Darius on that Lowry interception
  • Magical things happen when Aaron Jones has the ball in his hands.
  • What in the hell was Rodgers doing diving head first on 3rd and long?
  • Rodgers zeroing in on his best buddy Graham to the detriment to other possible options drives me to drink
  • When Savage starts holding on to those interceptions...
  • It is beyond time for Kumerow to get more snaps
  • Nice to see Gary get another sack. He had a good game overall.
  • I think I aged 15 years during the 4th quarter
  • Go Pack Go

You can't enjoy beating the Bears in our 200th game and during the 100th season? In a year I never thought we'd do better than about 8-8, this is a great day.

Whatever happens in the next few weeks, this has been a great bounce-back season after 2017 and 2018. No need to predict the next loss today.

I'm enjoying very much but that doesn't keep from from evaluating the game, no or more than the writer of this article.

Is Nagler not mentioning bad with good while enjoying the game?

Get off the high horse syndrome you suffer from and enjoy the games how however you wish.

All doom, gloom, half empty with nothing substantive.

I imagine if we win the SB this year, she'll tell us that it's only one SB and the team has a lot of flaws that is all Management's fault and that we are wasting the golden years of her fandom

Aaron Rodgers really hurt the Packer offense trying to do too much and failing. 3 times he took a sack and pushed us out of field goal range. What's going on with offensive halftime adjustments? Every single week we we sputter offensively in the 2nd half.

Edit: Really didn't think I'd have to spell out by 2nd half I'm obviously referring to after the 1st 2 drives in the 3rd quarter. You know EVERY OTHER drive after that... I just want to see the Packers run out the clock... literally.

Then followed that up with 9 yards on the next 18 plays with 5 three and outs. If the second half consisted of just 8 minutes the Packers offense would've won for best second half performance of the year.

When your pass pro is Jones getting driven back into Rodgers' lap or Lindsley bullrushed into your escape lane with all your WRs covered in the most absurd route selections on a 3rd and 4, 3rd and five, etc. You tend to get sacked.

That is exactly what I have been thinking for most of the season. If we had another legit WR (or two) and a TE, contributing to the offense throughout the game, this offense wouldn't be as inconsistent as it is. Rodgers, Adams and Jones are not the problem. Neither is the OL.

I thought all three units started the game extra sharp, except for MVS who may have written his obit in GB with that horrific inability to catch a perfectly thrown ball. Yes, we should have scored more first half points. The 2nd half started out well too. Then we went into a 20+ min offensive funk to finish the game. I'd like to hear MLF address what he thinks caused that. W/o Lowry's amazing INT, who knows if we even hang on to win that game.

The stat that amazes me most is our North Div record this year compared to last: undefeated this year and winless last year. Tells you everything you need to know about McCarthy having to go.

I'm hearing Dalvin Cook may not play Monday night. Will be a tough road game nonetheless. Time for pass rush and pass defense to step up.

Good news is we have 2 chances to win division. And we are still quite healthy.

Hoping for the BYE!

Defiinitely. Why Rodgers keeps throwing the ball onto the hands of his wide receivers is way beyond me. Definitely need a QB that puts the ball behind them or over them or somewhere other than their hands.

Over the course of this season, Rodgers has put far too many balls behind or short of his receivers in the dirt. Hitting a WR in stride has not been par for the course in 2019.

I won't go so far as to say Rodgers' talent has diminished to the point where he needs to be replaced, but on a game-to-game basis, he's clearly not the elite passer he has been in the past.

To me, the talent is still there, but the resistance to play within a system is what has me ready to draft the QB of the future- Ideally, I'd like to see Rodgers replaced within the next 2-3 seasons.

As usual an excellent observation IMO Oppy. I too think the talent is there but he still tries to do it his way too many times during a game.

BUT...This team desperately NEEDS some WR talent on this team. MVS may mot even be on this team next season with the way he's played this season. They need AT LEAST 2 in the upcoming draft PLUS a FA addition.

Tramon lost more than a step now with the missed play on the ball for a pick six and two near misses. Alexander again dropping, mis-playing a ball that could have been the late TD to Riley?? What the hell is being done to clean up the BBs technique??. A Miller killing them all day with Amos and Martinez letting him roam free. Burks, clearly a bust.

On that field. Seriously.. Both teams DB did well to keep their balance. Williams was position on the play, but for his footwork. He had to fight to keep in position to even have a chance for a knock down. He did tackle to limit to a short gain after the catch. There is something wrong with turf... Williams has lost nothing.

QB rating said Rodgers was better, 78 to 65. OTOH, QB rating doesn't account for bad sacks taken and Rodgers had at least 2 of them.

Fair enough, I guess, but he's on pace for 286 yards receiving all year. And he's played about 61% of the offensive snaps this year, the highest on the team. That's beyond atrocious. What practice squad player couldn't do as well as that?

I was very supportive of GMO at the outset of this season after what was a remarkably strong showing in 2018 before injury, but I agree, he has performed poorly (TO atrociously) in 2019 thus far. He HAS played much better the last few weeks, but i agree, kumerow should be getting more opportunities at this point.

just pointing out that when someone complains of drops in today's game, calling out MVS abd GMO while failing to mention Adams is an oversight.

Considering Davante had an unusually hard time catching the ball today, might it be possible that he was having grip issues of some sort (either wonky equipment, a hand injury of some sort, or possibly just an extra slick ball) and he was making a decision to get out of bounds before taking contact for fear of coughing up the ball?

- Tramon trying to commit suicide. Make the fair catch when you have tro run that far up field.
- Rodgers has to know not to take a sack there and put them out of FG range.
- Rodgers had a couple questionable decisions like running and diving forward when it was still forever for first down.
- Defense held up. Good job.
- Adams drops.
- MVS alligator arms
- It's like the offense gave up at end of half. They decided that they were close enough, and to waste the rest of the time.

I was hoping for a little creativity out of LaFleur and didn’t see it. The drops didn’t help, the bad decisions didn’t help, but the conservative runs were predictable and ineffective. The TEs were invisible again, mostly. There some great plays by Kumerow and Lowry that will live in infamy, as far as Chicago is concerned. Live to fight another day.

If Rodgers was more of a game manager, we'd be doing better.

It's the free lancing that gets this offense into trouble. When Rodgers "manages the game" (AKA: runs the scheme) the offense chugs along like a well oiled machine more often than not.

Alexander looked like he was covering Ridley, and was in perfect position. When he saw the ball coming, he did the big 3-step jump to try to high-point and intercept the ball. If he would have simply stayed in front of Ridely, he could have just knocked the ball down, or be the guy behind the defender with the best position - he ran him over with his jump. It struck me as a hot dog play - going for the big int, and just like with other balls he should intercept, it slipped off the top of his hands. Not good.

Unless the Packers were inside the Bears 20, they were not going to try for a field goal. Both HC made that decision. The field and temp made that an easy call for both teams. I don't know what happened, but that turf was dead. Trying to plant for anything else other than a short shot would be difficult...

ML doesn't consult or inform me about gameday management but I'm guessing that is closer to the 30, not the 20 as the red line for a FG attempt. They were at the 27. I think they would have kicked it without the sack.

That’s fine but they are out of timeouts, you run on 3rd down, then run the play clock down to 1 second, call time out and run it again on 4th down to take time off the clock. You don’t take a sack and give them 5-7 extra yards.

It looked to me like the receivers got stuffed at the LOS and by the time they got moving the Bears were already in his lap. No chance at all to avoid a sack there. That one was on the receivers or at least the play call which maybe should have been a super fast slant.

I like how MLF starts out his play calling, but it's like he doesn't know what to call or get a rythm for the rest of the game. Need to get a KEEP THE PEDAL DOWN mentality and put teams AWAY. Way too many drops, OL not getting the run game going, Jones not doing his job in pass protection, and AR with a few head scratching mistakes. We need to start playing a complete game on both sides of the ball by the players AND the coaches. Far from playing the way you want your team to look going into the playoffs. Hate to say it, but the Vikes look like a much better team than us right now, hope the Pack show me wrong next week. A Pack win next week at the Vikes could be that "turn the corner" victory needed to get this team rolling into the playoffs. Will be a tough game. GO PACK !!!!!!!

O line is not good at run blocking with the exception of Jenkins and Turner. There will be more new blood coming to this unit in 2020. They do not have enough depth to keep the all out attack mode on green. LaFleur is trying to preserve his running game for the queens and Lions. They do not utilize Vitale much, hopefully he gets some bash time in next week's game at the shipwreck. They have to grind on the purple defense to maintain ball control. The DBs have to make plays against Diggs and Thielen. Who will cover Rudolph?

So, aside from Davante joining the drops team that is this receiving corps (hello, Captain Geronimo), and guys continuing to be on a different page as ARod when he scrambles (hello Mr. Tonyan)...the team continues to win despite its glaring shortcomings. So, there’s that.

There is plenty of questioning to be made concerning the offensive identity of this team - pretty much each and every week. Then there are the drops and the inability to get open. The forward slide by ARod, the continued inability to get rid of the ball before the inevitable pressure by such a vaunted qb, and the clear playing not to lose playcalling I witnessed in the 4th quarter. There is all of this AND...

IF you are simply going to run the ball twice on your second series when attempting (and failing) to eat clock midway through the 4th quarter and then predictably putting yourself in a losing passing situation...AND the momentum is clearly in the Bears favor...WHY not simply waste more clock and run the ball on 3rd down? AND, if you aren’t clear what you are actually doing - which is clear to me often with LaFleur, and you aren’t going to run the ball AND you fail in your passing choice (which they did) WHY ON GOD’S GREEN EARTH are you opting to punt the ball, WITH A RUNNING CLOCK, with 20 seconds on your playclock?!? The review showed the clock stopped at 28 seconds of that minute mark. The ball was placed. The punt team lined up. The playclock was set to 25 seconds. The moment the referee made their signal, the playclock and the gamceclock began running down. The Packers CHOSE to snap that ball with 20 seconds on their playclock. There was and is no excuse.

EVERY facet of that madness to end the game: OCCURRED WITH 20 SECONDS LEFT.

Clock Management football. THIS sequence described really put me over the edge today. I accept their shortcomings talent-wise on the offensive side wr positions. I accept the first year coach learning his way. I accept the first year identity crisis on the offensive side. I find it extremely hard to accept that series and that punting sequence.

Thought I was the only one who noticed that clock management screw up on the second to last punt. One of many mental mistakes by the team today, most of which are called out above. Rodgers head first slide and near turnover, Defense’s lateral sequence on the int at the end of the first half that ended near their own ten yard line, Rodgers sack that took them out of FG range, and why wasn’t Williams in to protect on that play instead of Jones if I recall correctly?

I didn't see that otherwise I would have made a mental point as well - this drives me crazy that these coaches who get paid millions can't manage the clock in a 2+2=4 fashion.

Madden XBOX has fixed time outs at the end of the half and the game - Coaches used to let the clock run out and not use the timeouts to full advantage. Doesn't happen anymore thanks to video games - used to drive me screaming nuts. See Ray Rhodes versus Carolina in about 2000 - 2001 - let them run clock to 3 seconds at the packer 5 to kick the winning field goal with three time outs in pocket and Brett Favre on the bench.

* Trubisky was as good, or better, than Rodgers.
* How does a hall-of-fame quarterback take two sacks to move us out of field goal range?
* Aaron Jones made a really good effort on those two pass blocks; Rodgers has to peel off to the side.
* Where, Coach LaFleur, are the screens and jet sweeps and quarterback rollouts? There seems to be little creativity in the short game on offense to move the chains and milk the clock late in the game. Are there no ways to scheme guys open for short passes?
* If it was a bad call on the punt not caught by Williams, why didn't the Bears challenge?
* MVS is going to be fine. It would have been good to throw another deep ball to him sometime in this game.
* More Lazard, Tonyan and Vitale, please, plus Jones out of the backfield.
* With first downs at a precious premium, Rodgers could have run for one in the first half on third and short. Then, after stupidly throwing an incompletion instead, he has the nerve to correct Tonyan on the field. How about a teammate correcting Rodgers by pointing at the first down marker?
* 11-3 never felt so conflicted.

I'm not sure whether I agree or not. Either way, being the taller midget doesn't mean he should be playing Center in the NBA. I hope the Bears look at his recent play and make the same mistake Jax did with Blake Bortles.

No doubt Rodgers left much to be desired today. Sure his numbers were hurt by some key drops. But that's not the end of the story by any stretch. He threw poorly and made poor decisions.

They had 4 drives that started on their own 41 or better, including one at the Chicago 33. They got zero points off those drives.

Rodgers played against the #4 defense today, who did Trubisky play against? Rodgers would tear up GB defense even with their pitiful receiving Corp.

The two sacks taken by Rodgers to lose field goal attempts were soft turnovers that really hurt.
Overall, its seems Trubisky was more lively and involved and invigorating.
One of Trubisky's turnovers was an interception at the end of the first half and thus meaningless; another interception was a fluky great play by a defensive lineman.
Trubisky threw some wobblers, but then he would resiliently step up with some strikes.
When it was all said and done, he led the Bears to a great comeback that fell just short.
I'm glad Rodgers is careful with the ball, but his failures on third down do result in giving the ball back to the other team -- which are soft turnovers.
Without significant improvement with our short game on offense, the Packers will end with a thud against the Vikings, and then a dud in the playoffs.
With Rodgers literally hazardous to our health as fans, I hope he takes pity on us and works to remedy the situation.
I'm tough on him, but as a fan rooting for him!

As long as we're on the topic of how righteous Trubisky's turnover number was, let's talk about the 2-3 near misses. I know one was dropped by Savage near the goal line. I don't remember who dropped the others or the context, just that Trubisky was not as discriminating as you'd like in selecting the correct jersey to hit with his passes.

If anything 2 picks undersells how careless Trubisky was with the football. I hope to see him line up under center for the Bears for a few more years.

Re: Where are the short passes?

Maybe LeFleur watched the game tape so far in 2019 and realized that Aaron Rodgers is the worst screen / short yardage QB in the league.

No kidding. Not bashing (really), it's just a fact. Rodgers has never.. and I mean never.. shown any touch on the short pass game. Exception: throwing the dart almost laterally to the WR on the edge immediately on the snap of the ball if he sees the DB giving more than a 5 yard cushion. He nails that pass all day. Otherwise- screens, very shallow drags, short curls and outs? He either throws an uncatchable frozen rope at point blank range, or he throws it short into the dirt at the target's feet. I can only theorize that it is Rodgers' fear of a defender getting an easy pick 6 as to why he throws the extremely short stuff as he does- he is limiting the odds of a defender breaking up the pass by making it all but uncatchable.. even by the intended target.

I would love to see them run more screens and short routes, too. But I could understand why a coach might not even try to call those plays anymore, too.

The Bears actually sold out to stop the run in the 4Q, which is strange. It gave single coverage in many places Rodgers missed. He missed Lazard WIDE open twice! One play to Graham and a wide open Lazard. MLF needs to sit ARod down and say "dude, I am scheming guys open, can you go through your progression atleast??"

And then the 4th Q plan was to run it into a wall on 1st and 2nd downs and then let Rodgers hold it for 6 seconds and get sacked on 3rd.?? Geez

If the Playoffs were to start today, We would have a week off and likely play either Seattle, Minnesota, or New Orleans. Any of those teams would take us the way we are playing. And having a week off has proven to do nothing for us except put us in a stupor in prepping for our next opponent.

I'm hope for better, but have no evidence it can happen. This has oddly been a most painful season to follow. Who knows, maybe someone wakes up on the other side of the bed this week and figures out how to fix it all. Unlikely though.

As you said, 4zone, let's keep hoping for better, even though it doesn't look good on the field as far as progress for the offense.
I think it's up to Aaron at QB. Although not as good as in the past, he seems able. The major question seems to be, as far as adapting, whether he is willing.
I still think Rodgers can lead us like he did in 2010 to a late surge.

As pedestrian as our offense has been all season, I still feel as though the Packers could line up and beat any of those teams on a given Sunday.

The Smiths' and the DBs give the defense a chance to steal multiple turn overs on a given day; and the fact that the offense is a mess and we're still winning games gives me hope that if Rodgers pulls his head out of his ass and plays to the scheme for a full 4 quarters we might actually see an in-rhythm offense that methodically churns out yardage, moves the sticks, eats clock and posts 7 points on repeated, sustained drives.

The defense showed up to play right out the gate--I knew they would. The tackling was pretty solid, although Trubisky managed to escape a couple of times. Nice job by Lowry hanging on to that interception.

The big hole in this offense is the inability to complete a third-and-five/six yard pass; you wouldn't think it would be that difficult, but apparently it is. Being able to move the chains and chew up clock would have saved us from that adventuresome ending--the Bears had way too many chances to possibly tie the game with a TD and two-point conversion.

Special teams: Love our new returner! Poor final punt by Scott, though--should've been able to get that ball to the 10-yard line.

It may not have been the prettiest win in some people's minds, but we beat a quality opponent, and besides, I enjoy these kind of games.

11-3. Fun to watch A Jones play. Lazard played well. I don’t have much faith in MVS anymore. He can’t find the ball in the air and unreliable catching it. Good thing he’s fast. No matter how hard they try they won’t get a fraction of their money’s worth from J Graham. Bahktiari and Bulaga played very well. No use complaining about Rodgers and LaFleur. This is a very good team inspite of the lack of receiving talent.

When you look at Brett, he could never learn to not throw the ball into impossible coverage, his fatal flaw. For Aaron, he can't break away from his 'trust' issue to throw to the open players. Its his Achilles heel.

And after further review, Aaron is not nearly the QB he was 3 years ago. We need to get moving on his replacement before Green Bay turns into the NY Giants west. Its sad to say, but I just don't think AR has what its gonna take to make this offense work. He is too stuck in his ways, just like Brett was. Sad.

Seeing Trubitsky hit those quick tight throws to the middle while Rodgers takes sacks to put us out of field goal range is just too much. There's an ugly win and there is a bad win. Packers aren't winning ugly. They are winning badly. Except for the crossing pass to DA when the defender slipped, AR looked pretty mediocre today. Pass to Kumerow was good. But the TD to Adams was underthrown and the other one that hit the defenders helmet was underthrown. Sorry, AR has played badly enough this year to no longer deserve to be called elite at all. And holding on to the ball certainly doesn't help his reputation. I am no longer confident that he can play at a high level and move this team forward. It's on him now to show that he can.

AJ might be able to slash threw holes but he isn't moving many out of his way. I think he should be used as a receiver out of the backfield against these tough front defenses and let Williams do the plowing. You got to give AJ credit for taking on those linebackers an getting run over.

Yes, it is better that losing. But how good can you feel about this team (mostly the offense) when they play this way?

Not looking forward to Cousins, Diggs and Thielin next week.

Rodgers has the talent still but he also has the yips for some reason. He doesn't go through progressions, doesn't see wide open receivers, makes awful decisions at times, He also doesn't have decent receivers, especially in the slot, or TE's. All that combined makes for a lousy offense. When Adams was out he had no receivers at all so the game went through Jones and was a completely different offense. Rodgers was relegated to game manager. Why they stopped doing that is the mystery, and the answer may be Rodger's ego. He doesn't want to game manage.

I can't imagine what Rodgers is griping about, "we need to be more consistent"?
The Packers are very consistent, and unfortunately, they're also very predictable, MLF's got nothing on McCarthy!

When they get a lead: They consistently and immediately revert to the McCarthy "Run-Two-Three-Kick" offense.

And, with that lead: They consistently and immediately revert to the Dom Capers/Mike Petine "Let's-Give-the-Other-Team-A-Shot-At-This-Game" defense by playing 8-10 yds deep.

Anybody thinking it's ugly now, this ain't ugly, just wait for the play-offs against the good teams, now that'll be ugly!

MVS, GMO & JG need to be gone after this year. TW made rookie mistakes... Gone after this year. Yes we will make playoffs but we will not make a deep run. Main needs Next year are , a legitimate #2 WR to go with DA, Lazard, ESB and Kumerow. Need a legitimate TE, ILB that can cover. OL did a nice job Ervin is a breath of fresh air!

Don't need to be creative. Need to execute the scheme.

Remember when Adams was out? That looked real nice, right?

That stretch was what this offense is supposed to look like.

Rodgers gets his security blanket back, he puts the blinders on, and starts getting Adams tunnel vision. Starts checking out of run plays. Starts ignoring what the defense is giving him; wants to get Davante his targets, wants that big chunk play.

Adams is a great weapon. But this offense is designed to chip away with multiple tools underneath and across the middle, and selectively take your shots off the play action.

I count 5 out of 15 3rd down conversions - other than the 3rd and 20 caused by Phantom hold, we were consistently 3rd and 5 or less - This is awful!! Look at all of the down and distances below with the result - Rodgers 16 of 33 on the day - no plays to scheme a 1st down - no passes in windows over the middle like Trabisky was able to do all day - This was a terrible performance - with those down and distance, we should have been 10 of 15 at least. See below if you want to puke!!

3rd and 6 - 7 yards to Adams
3rd and 5 - Incomplete to Allison
3rd and 8 - 4 yards to lazard
3rd and 1 - 1st down run Williams
3rd and 4 - Incomplete deep middle Tonyan - Rodgers could have run for it
3rd and 6 - Incomplete deep middle Graham
3rd and 3 - 10 yards Lazard
3rd and 4 - Intentional grounding penalty
3rd and 4 - Rodgers to Kumerow for 49
3rd and 3 - J Williams 3 yards
3rd and 7 - Incomplete short right Lazard
3rd and 5 - Incomplete short right ??
3rd and 20 - Rodgers dives head 1st for the sticks - came up 13 yards short
3rd and 4 - Rodgers sacked
3rd and 5 - Rodgers to the left for -1

And yet we won the game 21-13 and are 11-3. Those are the stats that matter. Who cares about the 3rd downs. The game is over. Take the win and move on. If you expect a TD on every drive and you whine over a victory you must spend a lot of your time whining. It's much more enjoyable appreciating the win than criticizing it. Thanks, Since '61

Maybe I missed someone else mentioning it, but that win finishes off the most lopsided decade in Packers-Bears history. And officially eliminated the Bears from playoff contention for the year.

For good measure, the Cowboys might be making the playoffs official for the Packers by beating the Rams. Lotta ballgame left there but the Cowboys have a huge lead....after electing to kick instead of deferring after winning the coin flip.

I used to think like that. I don't anymore. The playoffs will play out as they play out whether the Packers won today by a score of 21-13 or 38-3. So why should I rob myself of enjoying days like today because it wasn't artistic enough to convince me or others it had a larger meaning it really doesn't?

And I don't ever put Packers-Bears aside.

I had a bad feeling going into this game, so I'm glad to come away with the win. Kenny Clark is a beast. Amazed at the way we came out in the second half and scored. Watching the rest of the game created an environment where my behavior frightened our dogs. I feel exhilarated and ashamed.

Might as well go on over to Minnesota and win ugly again. Go Pack!

Good solid win today against a Bears team that was playing for their season. Packers took over the game in the 3rd quarter. MVS needs to sit in place of Lazard after not catching Rodgers perfect pass on the first play of the game. Our defense played another strong game until the Bears 4th quarter TD drive. Prior to that they stuffed the Bears run game and turned Twobitsky into a poor man's version of Cutler.
we're 11-3 with 2 games to go. We should finish 12-4 at least. Hopefully we make it to the playoffs healthy. Win ugly baby, it counts as much as any other win. On to the Viqueens and Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

GMo definitely needs to sit ... It's not a Davante situation where there was some great skills to work with to accommodate year 2 drops. He's literally JAG.

Would throw Kumerow out there instead- just for speed on the go.

Did you see Lazard's block on the line??? Man is he fun to watch.

At this point I would take Janis over MVS, at least Janis was a great gunner on punts. Allison has regressed badly and any positive play from Graham is a big surprise. I get the frustration with Rodgers play but the drops today were very bad and may have a lot to do with Rodgers lack of confidence in his receivers not named Adams, although he dropped at least two today

Good lord, looking through these comments you would think our packers lost. Having seasons like this one don’t happen all the time and we shouldn’t take it for granted. 11-3 and first place in the north is right where we wanna be at this point in the season. Quit whining and enjoy it. Wins are hard to come by. Go pack go!

So anyone got the stats on when AR has a serious girlfriend vs being single. It seems to me he had a similar slump when he was with Olivia?

Just a thought because he looks AWEFUL!!!

Yes he is in a new system and has new receivers that have dropped several passes but he just doesn't look like he cares much lately.

All I want for Christmas is.....
1. DBacks that can intercept a pass.
2. Rodgers to have the ball snapped with more than 0:00 showing on the clock
3. Rodgers to throw away a football and at least make to the line of scrimmage
4. Rodgers to just throw it way especially when you are in field goal range
5. Receivers without hands of stone
6. Defense to not leave receivers and certainly not tight ends wide open.
7. Rodgers to learn how to slide feet first
8. The Packers staff to manage the clock better before the half.
9. The Packers defense to stop making the opposing QB look like a future HOFer.
10. Get rid of King.
11. Have King take Graham with him.
12. Get tickets to watch the Packers in the Super Bowl LIV!

Seemed like we let the air out of the ball and played the clock after we got the big lead. Why stop dancing with who brought you? Seemed like we lost the mo, the Bears got it, and we had to hang on to win. Why not stay aggressive offensively? It almost cost us today and will in the playoffs. When you have a team down you have to finish them off, we have trouble doing that. But, we won so go Paack!

JFC, anyone reading the comments here would think the team lost and was 3-11. There are no style points on the scoreboard. And the only numbers that matter in the end are the ones under each team's name on that board. And 11 times in 14 games, the Packers have had the greater of the two numbers.

I had No doubt they would win. The doubt was the play of the Wrs. It won't do any good to change them now. Were going to live and die with them. Why blame Rodgers for how these guys are?. MVS couldn't track that ball in the air! Allison's injury has wrecked his confidence. Kumerow can't run a route right, and nearly stepped out. Lazard had No separation. Adams got double teamed. Not one knows how to beat the press.! While we may want Rodger's to throw better. The Truth is they can't beat the blitz. Rodger's loses faith in his ability and his protection. And when that happens, it opens Pandora's box. The packers need to start over. Nobody is a bust as long as their on the team. The answer is DON"T LET RODGERS DOWN! His confidence is only going to be as good as the WRS. It's up to them now. Because none of them are worth a Damn unless they want the ball.

So let me get this straight. The Packers beat the Bears their arch rival 21-13. That officially ELIMINATED the Bears TODAY . The Packers are in position to WIN the North by beating the Vikings OR Lions. They are 11 (!!) and 3. Oh did I mention that given that the Rams are being crushed in Dallas the Packers will lock up a playoff spot TODAY for the first time in 3 years. All with a first year Head Coach. Yet some here are unhappy. SMH

How about a little perspective.

To the above posters who complain about us whiners. Yeah, we're whiners alright. We actually spend 3 hours of our sunday intending to watch and enjoy good football. Instead we get big chunks of bad football, interspersed with some good. Yeah, we got another win. Chigo is no slouch team, and GB played some parts of that game really well; cutting down on penalties and the Oline neutralized the pass rush wonders; Khalil, etc.
But to watch good football, I have to switch over to other games.

For everyone bitchin.....lets remember where we were December 15th 2018...and 2017. Planning for next year. In about seven minutes or so, as the gameclock ticks, the Cowboys will beat the Rams, and the Packers will get a playoff spot. Thats a hell of a lot better than we've been the last two years. Yeah, theres been some ugly wins this year, and some ugly loses....but you have a first year coach and came out of an off season filled with questions. Packers were picked to win about eight games. half a game less, depending on who you listen to, and in most cases behind the bears and vikings. Well, the Bears will not be playing ball in January, the Packers have seen to that. We have a chance to seal the deal next week. Team still has a shot at a first round bye. Are there some obvious issues? Absolutely. But for now? Be happy man! You can only win the super bowl if you are in the playoffs first, and this team is about to get back to them!! GOPACKGO!

Could not agree more with most posts on this board. I miss the days of AR throwing for 375yds and 4tds, It was a lot more fun watching them lose because of roughing calls on Clay, none facemark calls on the Falcons, players keeping teammates from recovering onside kicks, trying to run kickoff out of endzone, 4th and 20+, and of course the famous Hail Mary . Ahh the good old days. Man 11-3 sure sucks

Late Random Thoughts. What a strange game. Longer game went on, more careful Rodgers was out on the field, the more timid MLF was in his play calling. Talk to my father in law at game. Turf was bad, really bad, mud bad. No grip no matter how deep a players cleats went. He's a grounds guy, and suspects that the Packers grounds crew underestimated the depth of the November freeze that froze all the natural grass in the field. In past he told me Packers would lose grass by mid December, but field would still be intact. Not this field, gone already. Looks like the field effected some of the play calls the Packers might have dialed up. MLF inexperience played into that. Mike Pettine. De-facto head coach Green Bay Packers? One touchdown, two three point conversions. 13 points. Schemes with what he has, and makes it works. Smiths have out played their contract with Kenny (more money) Clarke getting ready for his. DB kept the Bears in front, and for the most part out of the end zone on a bad BAD football field. Week after week Aaron Rodgers becomes the most frustrated and angry man on that football field.... R. E.L.A.X.... 11-3. No 2 seed. So when is this knot in my gut going away... I need a (root) beer........

The Packers still have no credible deep threat at WR - witness MVS's failure to catch the opening drive bomb from Rodgers that flabbergasted the game commentators as to how one can NOT catch a perfectly thrown pass like that. Yet Mr Nagler continues to insist that the Packers were wiser to develop their young receiving corps rather than obtain an elite WR. The lack of quality WRs - at least those who can get separation and run consistent pass routes - is a major reason for the inability of the offense to sustain drives apart from the very poor play calling on the part of Lafleur/Rodgers. The WR position is a weakness overall for the Pack and shows the need to use Aaron Jones more as a downfield receiving option. Rodgers is one of the greatest QBs of all time yet the Pack has not given him sufficient weapons at the WR position. But other than that, the Pack is 11-3 and has secured a playoff spot for the first time in three years. Go Pack Go and let's hope we can secure home field advantage for at least the first playoff game.

OK, so we're 11-3. You simply cannot be a bad team and be 11-3. What we aren't is firing on all cylinders, I think everybody can see that. I also see no problem in identifying Rodgers as part of that problem. He is.
But we're 11-3 and playing maybe half as well as we can. Damn!

The receivers were an (the?) issue here. They aren't always. You can't blame them for badly thrown passes or not being hit when wide open. You can blame them for dropping easy passes and running into coverage. But hey, the Bears are still one of the better defences around, and 21 points isn't bad - thanks mainly to a hot period in 3Q.

Are we expecting too much maybe? I think it's also a case of getting different things to what we were expecting this season. We were expecting HOF Rodgers to throw Hollywood passes all season to a plucky but flawed receiving corps with experienced but under-performing TEs. A potentially decent running game if the O Line can step up, with inventive play calling to suit it. A reasonable defence with gaps in the middle. A second or third rate special teams.

What we've got is an inconsistent, strangely hesitant Rodgers, a very patchy receiving corps with under-performing TEs, a very good running game with a star back, dependent on an inconsistent O line and average play calling, a very good defence with huge potential, but big gaps in the middle, Second rate special teams.

i think we're better and worse in areas compared to where we thought we'd be and that has us scratching our heads, The one thing that cannot be argued is the record. 11-3 is superb, all things considered. We keep winning after fluffing half our lines. If this team and staff can conspire to get a few more things right as the post season approaches, we can do some real damage. Maybe go all the way. I appreciate this is asking a lot.

Summary:
- Catching practice. Disappointing that its needed after 14 games, still... do it.
- More snaps for Kumerow, more throws to Lazard, less to Graham.
- i understand the determination to get Allison and MVS working. But it's not.
- Trust your arm Mr Rodgers. Sometimes, do it quicker. We need your old Mojo and rhythm.
- More variety in play calling please. And stop playing a bad hand sooner.

To end on a positive, because we should be feeling positive.
We're 11-3, we ARE going to win this division and there's so much more to come from this team that if it does, we can go deep into this postseason beyond all hopes in the summer. Who knows how far?
We're not far away from getting this right. Or we're a millions miles away. It's Jekyll and Hyde, but we're in the mix. Enjoy it for what it is?

Glad for the win. Always great to beat the Bears, especially twice a season. I have come to the conclusion that Rodgers is no longer an elite NFL QB. I was afraid he would after signing his huge contract. He is just missing on to many throws. The throws he used to make. Sad to think how some of his best seasons were wasted by having TT as GM. If Gute had been the GM five years ago, how much better the team would be.

Got to get some WR's in the off season/draft. Period. A good TE wouldn't hurt. I hope MVS is just in a sophomore slump. Still think that putting Equanimeous St. Brown on IR not to return was a bad idea. Maybe they need to look at Ryan Grant instead of him always on the inactive list. I guess he must not be impressing in practice. But maybe sitting MVS for the Detroit game for Grant would be a good idea.

Going to be a return to reality come this coming Sunday when we go to Minnesota. Curt Cousins has been outplaying Rodgers by a mile. The Pack must put together a complete game. The time is now to make a run. No more offense disappearing for a quarter or an entire half. Got to do it if they expect to get to the SB. But they are having the same issues as they did the start of the season.

I think the Vikings are more balanced, rather than Cousins being better than Rodgers. Cousins is playing nearer to his max than Rodgers is for sure (for now), but then again Rodgers is a far superior QB.

I don't think it's certain they beat us next game. Home advantage favours them, sure. But we can just as easily turn them over if we show any kind of consistency.

Whatever happens, Packers win this division though 100%. The Vikings would rather be in our position.

11-3 and in the playoffs after beating the reigning division champion to eliminate them from playoff contention. That is the headline. Our rookie coach has created a winning culture which makes our future bright. LaFluer has limited experience as a play caller and at times that shows. Going forward the question is how fast and how far does he and the team climb the learning curve as we get into playoff football.. Many defensive calls in this game were perplexing. Perhaps Pettine is featuring 'the illusion of perplexity' to keep the home fans entertained to the very end of these games.

What was wrong with Preston Smith on the last play. He should get a swift kick in the ass. When Trubisky got the ball he trots over to him and just reaches out and touches his shoulder like no big deal and lets him pass by. He could have blind sided him and there wouldn't have been a pitch to Cohen. End of game! Replay it and watch him.

Tony Romo was right on during the Packer - Oakland game. He said that a good passing team would give the Packers defense fits. He said that we have a big problem defending the middle of the field. Boy! He is so right. Miller was open all day across the middle. ALL DAY! On one play we were playing zone and 3 Packers let him go by with out covering him. He was open the whole time.

This has been a huge problem since week 5. Before that it seemed like we were doing more man to man and covering just fine. Since we have been playing zone a lot more the middle has been wide open. Our DC has to go. We have everybody we need now and yet we still are ranked in the bottom half of defensive stats.

We will never beat a playoff team the way we defend right now. Plus A Rod has to get his you know what out of his you know what. He is telegraphing most of his passes and not setting and throwing like normal. And one more thing that I noticed the last 2 years is that when he goes back to pass he is NOT ALWAYS looking straight down the field and never looking right or left so that they don't know where he is going to pass unless it is a quick out pass. That's what makes him a great passer. If he would get back to that it would be a different story. Mark my word.

It doesn't take a genius to realise we're weak in the middle. And I would say it's been a problem since the start of the season, it's just that teams started realising since a few weeks in.

We are weak at ILB. That's all there is to it. No point firing Pettine over that. He has what he has to work with. There was no way to fix everything we need to fix in one summer.

A good passing team will give anybody fits. But please, throw the ball to Jaire and Savage. Please.
Anyway, It's not necessarily good passing teams that hurt us. It's teams that have good TEs and slots that hurt us. And QBs who can get the ball to them quickly. Our weakness was against the run but we've improved there lately.

I would also say our defence is a lot better than the rank suggests, and way better than I thought it would be in the summer.

Amen to Kumerow needing more snaps. What an amazing run after his dependable catch! Rodgers has to be schooled to look for more than his number 1 man though or it is useless to have more than 1 good receiver.
