Gut Reactions: Packers lay egg against 49ers

Aaron's gut reactions to the Packers loss to the 49ers

  • That sucked.
  • Ban California
  • Big props to the defense for keeping them in this game.
  • Holy mother mary of God did the refs job the Pack early on.
  • Sit Geronimo for Kumerow already.
  • The time share needs to end at RB. I'm all for utilizing Williams but Jones needs to play a lot more.
  • What happened to JK Scott?
  • That had to have been Corey Linsley's worst game of the year.
  • Tough teaching moment for LaFleur tonight. All the weaknesses and failing points prior to the bye week were still upfront and present tonight.
  • MVS. Buddy. That's the back of the endzone. You're not allowed to catch the ball there.
  • Still love this team.
  • Go Pack.

. Packers won't beat the Niners in the playoffs

. Packers have a better chance against anyone else in the NFC,  but prob won't get to far in the playoffs because of a lack of a few more weapons that can get open.

. Will probably win 4 more games (hopefully) , but won't beat Viqueens on the road (unless they show more manhood than tonight).

. D needs another stud DT and stud ILBs. Young secondary needs to improve or add pieces

. I have no Super Bowl expectations

.We are way better than last year.

. Hope Bulaga is ok

. Keep improving the team BG

Who is the first Stud DT? The guy with 1.5 sacks and 22 tackles? Could it be that guys like Lowry with zero sacks and the other bum with one sack are hurting the defense? More slow soft defensive players for the Packers. Softest defense in the league.

OL completely lost the LOS. Team needs WRs and a TE. Did Martinez play in this game?

Thanks, Since '61

For 2019, they need to give Allison's snaps to Lazard. For 2020, they need to make a big offseason investment at WR or TE or both.

You think the DEFENSE was the biggest problem? How about offense? How about special teams, where they had NEGATIVE NET YARDAGE on punt returns?

Hell the defense kept them in the game during the first half. Granted, in the second, the wheels came off and there were lots of missed tackles and everybody wanted to be somewhere else.

But my biggest question was WHAT THE HELL happened to their Offensive Line?

"You think the DEFENSE was the biggest problem? "

No I don't. I don't speak for Ollie.

I'm not sure what would cause you to leap to that conclusion. Ollie said "Fire Pettine", I responded that they ought to consider that. Neither of us said one word about special teams or offense, and certainly not a word that supported either.

However, you are seeing what I am seeing that led me to support the notion that Pettine's seat ought to be a little warm. You could have added the consistent inability to stop big plays is a pretty major problem.

Do not understand why everyone thinks Blake Martinez is a good ILB. Yes he makes a lot of tackles, but so did AJ Hawk, 5 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. HORRIBLE in pass protection, over runs plays, can't get of blockers (even gets swallowed up by TE's.). He needs to go after this year. DO NOT SIGN HIM TO ANOTHER CONTRACT!

I think a lot of guys can produce what he's produced. Unfortunately, the Packers don't seem all that interested in finding them. He's the best LB they have. Which is a failing of the front office. Because you're right. He's not very good.

My thoughts exactly, Bearmeat. We're good, but not great.

And now that we've made a major dent in our hopes for home field advantage, we'll be on the road, as usual, in the playoffs....the road to the Super Bowl is a lot easier when teams have to come to Lambeau....not to say we cannot win on the road because we obviously did it in 2010, but that is hard to repeat.

I was expecting this. Thought the packers O might do a little better but then they have that pass rush. Tired of the BS regarding Beluga. He should have been replaced last season. Yes he is a cheap date but only when he plays and isnt lost in the big games.
Pettines pass D sucked again. Now they are tied with the Vikes and will get kicked good by then so they will be a playoff wild card more then likely.

Based on what? Vikings have a tougher remaining schedule than the Packers. Packers can beat the Giants, Washington, Chicago, amd Detroit. Even if we lose to the Vikings we can still be #1 in the NFC North. Sky isn't falling the Packers simply got outplayed by a better team.

* Ugh! Two weeks of preparation for this!
* If it isn't that we were outcoached, is it that the 49ers are that much better than us -- dominating?
* On fourth down, without any points, against a top defense, kick the field goal instead of going for it on fourth down.
* For the most part our defense seemed stout, although with breakdowns in the secondary.
* It's good to know how good we're not, at least not yet.
* For all his smarts, does Aaron Rodgers ever outsmart defenses at the line of scrimmage?
* I'm sad!

How pathetic, how disappointing, how embarrassing. Two weeks to prepare for a big game. Study the tapes, learn the opponents strengths and weaknesses, study the players. Walk out onto a field and forget everything and anything you may have learned. Rodgers forgot how to throw a football. Bounce it? Throw it over your receivers heads or too far away? Receivers forgot how to get open? LeFleur forgot how to throw the flag on a clear reception (Graham)? Rodgers forgot how to throw a ball away instead of take a sack, or worse, a TD? And then you stand on the sidelines pouting like Jay Cutler? Defense forgot how to cover a tight end, running back, and tackle? Oline forgot how to open a hole for your RB or stop your QB from getting leveled? A defense that makes every opposing quarterback look like a future HOFer? Are you that stupid all of you? You get paid millions and millions a year and cannot do your job! You weren't embarrassed enough by the beaten up Eagles or the Chargers that don't even have a home crowd in their own stadium? Yes, you all are truly pathetic, so pathetic. You are hanging on to a division win by the skin of your teeth. You'll be lucky to win playoff game! Seattle? New Orleans? San Francisco? They're just salivating to see you in the playoffs. Shame on you Packers. Shame shame shame.

* I was offended by the offense. Where were the in-game changes that would make a difference? Where were the passes to Aaron Jones? Why is WR Allison on the field? Is there no one faster, stronger, or able to catch a pass? Why was not the hurry up offense in place to make a change of pace and put the defense on its heels (and especially when we were behind by 23-8)?

* Aaron Rodgers looks all too human. He didn’t look sharp even when he had time to throw.

*Whoever prevented our Head Coach from hiring the Special Teams Coach he wanted should be fired. Our Special Teams return units are horrible. No, they are worse than horrible. They are showing zip, zero, zilch improvement.

* Early turning point of the game: Not going for the field goal and not making it on 4th down. We got 0 points. If we score, we are down 10-3. Game on.

* What happened to that promising defense? What is preventing us from stopping the big plays? Weak link in the secondary: CB King. He is getting beat all too often.

* I hate being critical of my favorite team!

Not a great team but good team yes. Have to fix mlb, dline and receiver number 2 to be elite. Plus make Rodgers understand he’s not the best anymore. He’s still great but days of being elite are gone. Stop holding the ball and dropping the play clock to zero. He’s still top ten but he isn’t what he was and needs to stop trying to drop dimes and take what he gets!

49ers DL > Packers OL

That's the story of the game. Rodgers was hearing footsteps. When he did get time, coverage was good.

Stupid plays to start out like Adams to start off, Allison drops, then poor ball handling by Rodgers. Keep hoping the packers are a contender, but the weakness keep showing up even in the wins.

The networks should be forced to play the Benny Hill theme music any time the packers receive a kick on special teams.

1) Davante set the tone early—NOT READY.
2) Allison is a wonderful third receiver (two years ago). Kumerow blocks AND catches.
3) Splitting carries IS good. We don’t need to bang up Jones anymore—Williams is a wonderful complement. 4) When will Pack realize what everyone (ie. Saints/Seattle know years ago)—Graham has NO football left in him. Whiffed on blocks all night, can’t beat any coverage without a perfect pass and a non-factor in any important game.
5) Turner/Lindsey turnstiles against good rushers/run stuffers.
6) Rodgers is INCAPABLE of checking down/finding receivers short over the middle. All check downs are at sidelines. We continue to not use any of our speed across the middle.
7) King is a destination site for QB-receiver completions. Unless he is mugging a receiver, no technique. Alexander, Savage andAmos non-factors because too easy to complete against King and Martinez.
8) Can someone explain WHY we released Trevor Davis?

Did not expect this low level of play after a bye even if the defense didn't suck.

The oldest looking QB in the league was Aaron Rodgers tonight.
MLF seems to have reached his ceiling in this game...Not true but damn, the game tape would hold up in defense of it.

This team looked liked a turtle running in molasses compared to SF.

This game took away any chance of falling into a trap game next week as they sprung the trap a week early on themselves,so a loss to the Giants can now be deemed a more than possible. I hope they can handle the pressure because the Giant just became a must win...roh-roh.

I mentioned in another article a week ago here that win or lose this team needed to send a letter of intent via their play vs SF and show the others we are dangerous. This was a Letter of Resignation saying we won't stay longer past expectations...one and done.

So much for the team building of MLF in the Carolina game...not a single building block erected, a few torn down though for sure.

Where's my wine glass.

Sorry guys, you can't defend this team any more when they play like this within weeks of each other. Packers are not an elite team. If you can press them, they fold - big time, everywhere. And giving up the big plays keeps happening. Change the plan MLF - don't stick with it. It's like MM never left sometimes.

I don't think AR is washed up yet. He finally didn't underthrow MVS. But it's like nobody was getting open. Are our WR's that bad.

Maybe MLF should self scout himself.

A couple of articles I'd like to see on Cheesehead TV:

--why the defense struggles so much to cover the tight end, even when there's a highly productive one they KNOW they have to contain.

--a series on why the special teams is so awful year after year. It's more than just the coordinator; with the exception of the kicker and punter (who obviously sucked tonight), the organization doesn't take them seriously.

Other comments:

The game was very reminiscent of that awful game in Denver in 2015: poor offensive line play and the receivers couldn't get open. The San Francisco defense is excellent.

Which brings us to the next point: there is no way the Packers are a Super Bowl contender with this receiving corps. We'll need to add two starting caliber players to this unit and cut non-productive ones like Allison and MVS.

There is nothing wrong with California, only with the way the Packers play there. Unlike the Charger game, the effort was there, but the execution was not and the overall offensive talent was not able to compete with the San Francisco defense.

Our defense didn't do a bad job until they fell off after the Packers finally scored.

Finally: PLEASE DON'T BLAME THE REFS! The Packers, despite their record, are not a complete team yet and it showed.

Turning point of the game was the penalty on Adams after the first down on the first possession. That changed the momentum and field position. The Rodgers' fumble doesn't happen without that BONEHEAD play by Adams. That said they were dominated by a better team.

I don't believe this game is representative of MLF's coaching. I think Rodgers ego is out of control and he just does what he wants. What coach consistently calls very low probability deep passes to very covered receivers on 2nd and 6, or 3rd and same. All of those plays were completely wasted and blew the "schedule to pick up 3rd downs. Why don't we throw in rhythm and time anymore. Can Rodgers throw an accurate short pass? So many are off target. Even completions require receivers to turn or go to ground limiting RAC. Also, I have to say Rodgers body language and expressions are awful. He looks like a complete A-Hole to me.

Packers were flat again. Mental mistakes at the beginning of the game. Taunting, dropped passes, MVS not looking for the pass, King with hands to the face lead to a field goal and for the whole night, really poor punting. Can Scott kick it past 40 yards?
What is it with letting the ball go into the endzone when the kickoff didn't make it to the goal line? What is happening there? Should have gone for the field goal in the first half to keep the game close. Still too slow getting the call in and getting to the line of scrimmage. The offense was better without Adams. Using the RB's better. That is totally gone. Rodgers is forcing the ball down the field trying to get something better when a short pass is available. And then getting nothing. End up getting third and long. They should have helped Light more. Rodgers was not close on long throws. LOts of things to fix. And Allison does nothing more than 2 yard catches.

He has become the drive killer. Needs to look in the mirror..

How did the number one pick do? Gary play well?

I only noticed Gary once during the game and he was so far out of the play that he looked like he had just run out of the tunnel.
He sure doesn't play like one would expect from the twelfth pick in the entire draft.

WR- nobody special beyond Davante

TE- nobody home

RB- Jones is the truth. Feed him. Don’t water him down.

ILB- glaring weakness. Martinez IS Hawk 2.0. Uncanny.

CB- King gets picked on week after week. Truly the weakest link.

Lines are mostly in good shape. Gary...hope there’s a big jump in Year 2...

This is a good team, but it is short one or two players on each side of the ball. I'd hoped that acquiring a #2 WR at the trade deadline might have a cascade effect, making life easier for the #3 WR, the TEs to work underneath, less stress on pass pro and open the running game up. GB would have to mumble fake it on D. People want to dump MVS, but that's an overreaction. He'd make a nice #3 WR.

GB is short a #2 WR, a dual purpose TE, DL, and MLB. For internal possibilities, only Sternberger and if I squint Tonyan might fit the bill. Maybe Keke since he is just a rookie getting his feet wet.

Fred Biletnikoff catches that TD pass. So does Jordy and Davante. Greg Jennings as well. Heck, they make it look fairly routine.

No doubt a #2 WR would help alot. But this game should have featured Aaron Jones is the passing game. He should have been a main focus of the offense, not even so much in the run game, but in the passing attack, like when Adams was out. Jones would have almost certainly have drawn a LB in coverage all day long. Did Jones have any receptions at all when lined up as a WR? I don't remember any. Rodgers can't beat Cover 3, which is played by both SD and SF, not too mention Seattle.

Rodgers has to understand that the Cover 3 simply doesn't allow the QB to hold the ball and look downfield. He is still looking for a meaningful win against that D. That pass to MVS isn't available against Cover 3. Not w/ decent CB and a FS with range.

Is it possible special-teams would do better without a returner on kick-offs or punts? I guess on KO's you have to have someone back there because the ball is live, but punt return - absolutely a joke.

And what happened to the punter? Crosby's the only one having a good year. I thought ST's were bad the past few years but the bar is now so low it's laying on the ground.

Wow! What a stinker! The Packers need another bye week - not so much for the team as for the fans. We really don't need to see any more of these crap fests. 10 and 6 is looking more likely, although 9 and 7 still possible.

Random thoughts. Man oh Man. JK Scott Ugh! Can the special teams get any worst. WHY YES! They can... Jenkins and Light fresh meat on the table, oh goodness were they bad... Losing Buluga led to the complete collapse of the O line. It should not happen, but it did. (Who was "person" playing Center. Fire Him. FIRE HIM NOW!! ) Boy did Aaron Rodgers get old fast.. Defense did OK. (Outside of the idiots who kept playing zone when the secondary was in man coverage TWICE! TWO TOUCHDOWNS. why must every TE be reincarnated into the next Gronk when the Packers play them. why why why..) Roadkill... I need a beer.....

How often do we have to watch Rodgers play poorly against Cover 3? He sucks against that Defense. Its his kryptonite. He couldn't beat Seattle's legion of boom that played cover 3 almost every down. This year alone, he laid eggs against SD and now SF, both of whom play it almost exclusively. Rodgers wants to hold the ball and push it downfield, but cover 3 doesn't really allow it, at least w/ decent personnel. He refuses to accept what the Defense is giving him! It boogles the mind that Rodgers can't get it thru his head.

Its also why Casey Hayward has thrived in SD, but not so much in GB. Hayward is the 1st episode of the Josh Jackson fiasco. Both are great zone CB, who don't have the necessary skills to play man, which has been the favored coverage of McCarthy/Capers and now Pettine. Packers never should have drafted Jackson and should cut bait on him instead of holding on to him too long. I'd say trade him, but Jackson has no trade value right now. Watch him end up in Seattle or SD or SF and he'll become the 2nd coming of Richard Sherman.

Honestly what I Expected - but as some of you already said worse.I knew Saleh was going to utilize Gus Bradley’s Recipe to stop the pack as it’s been historically Very effective. He had personnel to do it.KUDOS THEM - if I knew they were going to do that - I know coaching staff did and we still looked bad.

- Why are we burning so much clock in 3rd Quarter?? No huddle or up the tempo- unacceptable by Lafleur and company

-we get 2 - 2 Win teams which if we drop any of those 2 il be incredibly worried (don’t see it happening)

- don’t want to see 49ers in playoffs (bad match up)

- love this team Go pack go!

SF and Salah are disciples of the Cover 3, that made Seattle's D so difficult to beat. Has Rodgers ever beaten a Cover 3 team w/ decent personnel? I sure as hell don't remember it. Cover 3 Defense with good personnel will get to the QB and it prevents the QB from throwing downfield. SF play it, SD plays it and Seattle still plays it, tho they don't have the requisite players to be as good anymore.

All these problems have been visible since before the season started. We knew we needed better WRs, a cover LB, a DL to compliment Clark, a TE to replace Graham. Then more problems developed; King turns out to be a turnstile. Same for Turner on the line. We knew Martinez couldn't stop the pass, but he can't stop the run either. And the coaches; offensive, defensive and ST, should all be gone next year. Those saying this is a team a year away, that's only if Gute is better at drafting then he's shown. Gary is a legitimate bust, I don't care what he does three years from now. The #12 pick has done nothing to help what we thought was a legitimate contender. You just signed two free agent DE's at great cost and you draft a project?... when you know we need a receiver? Inexcusable. It all started with Gute. 8-3 isn't a legitimate measure of this team. They were lucky to win a bunch of those games. It's a team full of holes, poorly coached, with a QB who is getting increasingly distant. Very few studs on this team. But heck. I'm saying there's a chance. Go Pack!

Special teams coaches his one and only year this year. Scott isnt punting well because they cannot protect against the rush - You need to get into a routine and you have to have consistent blocking and then you kick the stt out of the ball, getting pressure including a blocked punt gets into your head. Total special teams is off as is punting, punt return and stopping the other teams returns - all year long. We need a middle linebacker like San Fran has - Warner - 3rd round pick and he was everywhere - except to the uncontested sack Martinez was everywhere except where he was supposed to be. Watch the tape. We need to get our act together and win the next 2 games to ensure a playoff spot. Realistically if we play to our ability we should win the next 4 of 5 and will end up 12-4 which is what we need to get into the show - and anything can happen after that. But realistically one real good draft away.

yikes at least I know sooner rather than later we're not good enough to win this year. Need some serious offensive line help and wide receivers that have speed andr can actually catch and hold onto the balll. As for the defense, line and secondary are good but there's absolutely nobody at linebacker that any team fears. Sick of it.

We're getting there though, we're not as bad as we look. Jenkins is a welcome addition.

I cannot take away anything good from this game. Everyone sucked. Everything sucked.
Outcoached. Outplayed in every facet of the game. Two weeks to prepare for this game.
There is nothing good to take away from this game. I think this game may have destroyed all sense of confidence for the rest of the games this season.

You're right! We can already pencil in a loss at Minnesota. It's also very possible we could lose to one or more of the weak sisters left on the schedule. Talk about a smothering dose of reality!!!!!!!!!!! They were LAUGHABLE!

What happened to JK Scott? He was taking selfies on the bye week in Jamaica. He should have kept his skinny little ass in Green Bay and tried to relearn how to kick a football.

Very disappointing result after a bye week. We may have just lost home field advantage and will see our season end on the road again.

Coaching:
- LaFleur looked confused and out coached. I didn't see much fire from him on the sideline. He generally seemed puzzled.
- THIS is the result we get after TWO WEEKS OF PREPARATION??

Offense:
- O-line play was bad. Even against the 49ers, I expect more from our O-line
- Rodgers holds onto the ball too long in general, and led to that fumble / TD right away
- Give Aaron Jones more touches!! argh
- Not challenging Jimmy Graham's catch was a killer

Defense:
- kept us in the game for the most part since the offense couldn't do diddly
- that blown coverage vs. Kittle is ridiculous
- I think we had 4-5 sacks at least

Special Teams:
- what has happened to JK Scott? why does he stink now? and this was warm weather

"Well...well...well..."

"Spud fell in the well..."

Methinks I seem to remember a time when Ol' #4 had requested that yon' Ted Thompson sign some talent to help win games and "Tightwad Ted" stuck to "build through the draft" mentality like an Asperger's mental patient with OCD...

AND EVERYONE ON HERE ATTACKED #4.....

Well, it looks like the CHICKENS HAVE COME HOME TO ROOST....

Aaron "Prima Donna" Rodgers wanted it HIS way and nobody here said "Boo"...
He wanted a coach that let him do what he wanted...Nobody said he was "selfish..."

He wanted to have more say in the game plan and nobody said "he was acting bigger than the team..."

All that I have to say is....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHHA

and

Be careful what you wish for because you just might GET IT!!!!

I'm going to ignore your ignorant comment about Asperger syndrome and just ask some questions. Who hurt you, little buddy? Are you able to pinpoint the source of all that resentment, or is it free-floating? Are you looking forward to Thanksgiving, John? What time does the family typically eat dinner? Rather, methinks one should inquire as to "when Thanksgiving DINNER" is served at "Ye Olde Haus"? .....

All I have to say is ....

GO PACK GO!

Softest defense in the league. The Packers need to ace Russ Ball and Murphy. They are meddling in football operations. Let the coach hire his own assistants. Russ Ball wouldn't even let Lafleur do that. Packers hired cheap again with Mennenga as Special Teams doofus coach of the year and Gute as GM drafting a guy who will never pan out. As soon as Rodgers retires the Packers are toast.
