DL Mike Daniels unsure he'll play again in 2018

-- A recovery that was presumed to span "a few weeks" could turn into the rest of the season for Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Mike Daniels.

According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Daniels didn't break any bones in his foot or suffer an injury to the extent of requiring surgery in the team's loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week, but he sported a cast on his left ankle/foot on Friday.

"I'm not sure," Daniels said when prompted on how long he'd need to wear the cast. "I've never had a serious injury before outside of getting surgery in college. I don't know, everything's up to what the doctor's saying. I don't have an exact timetable."

Daniels left in the second half during the Packers' 27-24 loss to the Seahawks, not returning to the game at any point after.

He's played over 64 percent of the team's defensive snaps this season and provided defensive coordinator Mike Pettine with a massive frame to rush the passer from the interior of the defensive line. Daniels has also been a vital component in run support, leaving them with a sizeable void in his absence.

That absence could last over the course of the Packers' final six games and into the playoffs if they end up finding a place there in January.

"I always keep the hope alive," Daniels said of returning in 2018. "You never know what miracles God will work, you never know what can happen. You just never know, so I can't make any predictions. I'm just taking it day after day and taking my rehab very seriously."

His fellow interior lineman, Kenny Clark, also left the same game with an injury, but later returned.

The Packers have two defensive linemen -- Deon Simon and James Looney -- on the practice squad, but no promotion has been made as of yet.

Well if we lose Sunday it won't make a difference and we can IR Daniels and not expose him to any further damage for this season. Thanks, Since '61

Forces them to play Adams as well. We can see what he's got finally.

Adams showed a ton of burst on that 1 play in Seattle against Russle Wilson and in preseason...

That'll help GB's already porous run defense.

Ya and he can pig out on ribs and chicken and come into camp next year 50 pounds over weight and out of shape. Sounds lilke Perry. One thing about football you dont have to play at all to make dam good money. Perry has learned that. Daniels will too.

Daniels hasn't been much of a force this season, 18 tackles and 2 sacks in 10 games (Clark has 44 tackles and 5 sacks). He talks a good game, not sure how much he's respected in the locker room.

Daniels is a big body that is best used to tie up OL so that others can make plays. You would think that should be pretty easy to replace, Clark is the playmaker on the DL.

Well stated. He's been a poor player this year.
But no bad late personal fouls like in the 2014 NFCCG, at least!

He has not been a poor player. He's had fewer impact plays, but not poor play overall.

Just another veteran that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. just another veteran who doesn't have a super-bowl ring. Just another veteran who is approaching 30, and seen his best days behind him. How many of you feel Mike Daniels has any upside left? This team not only shoots themselves in the foot. The veterans can't be counted on. It's time to shop Mike Daniels. This team is torn apart on the field. It has upside, and direction. But it lacks a great DL. Trading Daniels for another position will help fix this defense. I'm not talking about a draft pick. I'm talking edge rusher, or safety. A guy that needs a fresh start and can be that missing piece. The draft is full of DL that could turn this club into a power House.

Man, you sound like Mr Grumpypants behind me in the stands. Go ahead, read your post, only yell each sentence. Works, huh? Now try it yelling our your kitchen window. Well done!

Your solution to the challenges faced by this team is to cut/trade/fire nearly everyone, and replace them with players who can't be injured, brilliant coaches who are never wrong, and imaginary free agents who will immediately gel into a team. Who can possibly build a team with that logic?

Yes, Mike Daniels has an upside. He's having a solid year, and has been a big part of Kenny Clark's success. He's a veteran leader (teams need those) and he shows up every damn snapIMHO. If you're trolling, helluva job, son. If you're serious, I'd hate to be a part of any team with you.

My position is I want to win. The game is about Stats. I wish every player was superman. Unfortunately, that just is not the view I thought. Free Agents were not the motive in my post. Unless Reggie White is out there. I would not invest money in guys with No Upside. And I agree with Gute on Dix, Montgomery and Randall. Like Randall- they picked up a draft choice and got a back up QB. Daniels is going on 30. I Accept the fact that he's a leader and helps. But he's not the player that is needed now. The one thing that you have to accept is Stats. This team needs sacks, tackles, and players that won't take off plays. The players with the stats are younger. (Adams, Jones , Alexander, Clark, frackwell. ) Daniels only has upside if the cast around him is dominate. He's solid, but not the difference maker you think, or need from that position now. I'm saying Gute has a chance to turn this DL around for the better. Daniels is no Pickett. And he's also not Raji. If anything we've kept are DL to long since 2010. But I'm pointing to the Stats! And that is what these aging veterans must be judged on.

"My position is I want to win. The game is about Stats." Lol, you really think the game is about stats? That explains quite a bit in regards to your opinions in your posts. The only stat that is concrete is wins and losses, all other stats are predicated on thousands of variables which often times make them gray or ambiguous at best.

@Rak Ridicules. You would not pay a player on wins and loses. PFF judges (Ranks) on stats, and anyone making a point uses stats. Recognition? Why doesn't Daniels get more? Film review, will not get you in the Hall of Fame?

@Stockholder how is production all about stats? Look at Rodgers sure he has a low completion % but 19 TDs to 1 Int with plenty of yards thrown. Would you say Rodgers is having a good season? There's a lot more to football than what shows up on paper. Good players find a way to contribute and taking on double teams is a contribution. Great players are the ones that can beat double teams look at Aaron Donald in the KC game.

Just have Kumerow touch him. Instant healing. I don't know why he isn't used more in that capacity this year considering all the injuries.

A lot of people are saying the Packers TV Network is working on a pilot of Touched by Kumerow. Could be picked up as a series if it gains enough of an audience. I'm not supposed to say this, but Lance Allen is rumored to be in the running for the voice of God.

Very much within the realm, as long as you, Dash, TGR, dobber, since 61, and I get to make cameos. Or work as extras. THAT would make for a ratings extravaganza!
