DL Mike Daniels to miss 'a few weeks' with foot injury

-- On top of falling short in Seattle Thursday night, the Green Bay Packers lost two key starters to injury for an extended period of time.

Not only will tight end Jimmy Graham miss time with what's reportedly a broken thumb, but according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, defensive lineman Mike Daniels will also miss games with a foot injury.

Daniels, along with fellow interior lineman Kenny Clark, has quietly helped form one of the league's top defensive line tandems in the league.

Like Daniels, Clark also left the game with an injury, however, returned later.

Daniels has played over 64 percent of defensive snaps this season, trailing only Clark in that category. He's played in 10 games and registered a pair of sacks along with 17 combined tackles.

The Packers have healthy bodies along the defensive line, but nowhere near the caliber of the aforementioned duo. Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams and Tyler Lancaster all played against the Seahawks, with Lowry playing the most snaps (47) and Lancaster playing the fewest (11).

A practice squad promotion sometime this week could be in order. Deon Simon and seventh-round draft pick James Looney are available suitors if the Packers need to add another defender.

Let's see what we have or don't have. Daniels is different, but I had a feeling we wouldn't miss Perry. So what the hell.

I'm curious to see what they have in Looney. He's strictly a situational rusher at this point, but can supposedly wreak havoc from the inside.

Not setting up well for a matchup with the Vikes...

Yeah, I would like to see more of Looney and Montravius Adams. Maybe one of those two can show something that can get us excited about their potential next season. Kind of like Kenny Clark did at the end of his rookie year.

Absolutely Tundraboy. There really isn’t another option. The practice squad is there for a couple of reasons. Time to see who shows promise and who is just a body.

Here comes the dreaded "lack of quality depth" again. -- Happens every season. -- Another area that Gute will need to work on in the off season.

There was a time in the early 2010s where the 'next man up' seemed to be able to perform well in GB. Not as much in recent years. Still, most teams would struggle, especially in the 3-4, if 2 (or 3, if Clark is hobbled) of their anticipated starters got hurt...don't forget Wilkerson.

If we lose to the Vikings next week we should IR Daneils and let the young DLs play out the season so that Pettine can evaluate what we have. Come the off-season we'll know who to chuck and who to keep and it we need to draft more depth for the DL.

IR Graham as well and let Tonyan take the snaps to determine if we should continue to develop him.

If we somehow find a way to win on the road against the Vikings rather than find a way to lose then we might need Daniels and/or Graham back. We have winnable home games coming up against the Cards and Falcons. If we can win these 3 games we should have enough momentum to go to Chicago and beat the Bears (as usual). The final 2 games are against the Jets on the road and the Lions at home. Normally I would be confident that these are all winnable games but with this season's inconsistencies who knows?

Take one game at a time but a loss to the Vikings probably ends our season regardless of what happens after that. Thanks, Since '61

He’d surely have those exact same stats had he played for GB this year.

Hey!
Eureka!
GB should trade for Zeke Elliott and Kareem Hunt! That way, GB would have like 3,000 yards rushing next year!

I should be the GM, baby!!!!

It's getting tougher and tougher for Pettine to field a defense. It seems every time I turn on the computer it's just more bad news for the Packers. I'm with Since '61...If the Packers lose to Minnesota the Packers should just stick Big Mike on IR cur another loss there and it's not just over, it's REALLY over. Get the youngsters some play time and see exactly what we have in an NFL game...Not the preseason or practice.

Off Topic....Been watching the different games today but managed to see TJ Watt wreak a few plays by Jacksonville. I'd think I'd get over it but every time I see that kid make a play I get pissed and hate Thompson all the more. So far a whooping 15 games played out of a possible 26 with more missed games to come I'm sure. And let us not forget Biegel...Way to go Ted!!! Sure glad we trusted you for 13 years and you delivered ONE title and left Gutekunst a friggen mess.

PUTZ!!!!

for me TT did not leave a mess at all and he did not draft alone either. he was not bad at all and has the same number of titles like Wolf.

dont know the stat line from Watt, but there is a lot of luck involved in drafting. Im sure the Steelers fans can look at MVS and complain about the guys they drafted higher. or Fackrell this season
Pretty sure the Steelers missing on more guys than they hit, too.

LOL....Go compare the Steelers drafts from say 2012 through 2017 and let me know what you find out.

"Pretty sure the Steelers missing on more guys than they hit, too."

Maybe, maybe not but Thompson did a HORRIBLE job from 2015 through 2017.... Truly pathetic.

BTW...Watt has 10 sacks, 4 FF. Today he has 2 sacks and 2 FF alone. Christ I'd take that from Kevin King for a season at this point. That dude won't hold up and will prove to be another weak azz west coast draft pick by Thompson who spend twice as much time in the trainers room than the football field.

I feel your pain, Nick. I cringe each time I see Watt too.

Thompson got cute passing over sure fire guys like Eric Kendricks (2015) and TJ Watt. Sure, Watt had two knee surgeries and maybe that scared Ted away, but Kevin King also had shoulder problems in college that led him to being IR'd this time last year.

Now this year he's got hamstring and groin problems. WTF. Kevin The Injury King hasn't done crap!

Everyone wanted Watt more than King. The draft had depth at DB. The failure of TT showed when he took King. Think about it. TT then acknowledged Rollins and Randall were failures. Both gone. Depth at Lb. Biegel gone. Failure in the oL when he let Trotter loose. So why blame MM for bad coaching when it's just plain sad==== TT couldn't take the better player. Instead. TT tried to plug a hole and save money. Now we have to ask draftees. Do you want to be a Packer? I don't like the DL. I see age and TTs failure there. Raji was a waste. But will Gute make TTs same mistake. Either you take the best the draft has to offer, or you plug the holes with Hope. Gute must trade. And Trade UP this draft. The windows of players like Daniels have shut. Sorry but it showed against Seattle. This team must change it's DL. And Gute can't make TTs mistake.

Season is over. NFL is boring - switch to high school or college. Much more enthusiasm and less jaded.

Tell Roger Goodell to kiss off. $3.1.7 million a year in salary for what? Lower TV Ratings and half empty stadiums.

Side note: You ever watch the Saints and get a little jealous watching Payton incorporate his playmakers? He gives Taysum Hill every opportunity to go out there and make plays and to think MM is just now starting to utilize Aaron Jones?! Jones and Williams would have over 500 yards each in Payton’s offense.

We had Taysom Hill, but McCarthy didn't know what to do with him.

Hey, c'mon now! How can you not recall Eddie Lacy split out wide, drawing a WTF from every talking head, and blogger in Packerland? The fact that Kamara has speed is not the point. Besides, Sean Payton has a small penis, and is a weasel.

And as long as I'm alive NO ONE will dis the memory of Fightin' Joe Callahan. Hill needed to go to keep Fightin' Joe on the roster. Long after we're all dead and gone, there will be an exhibit in the Packers Hall of Fame with ARod, Hundley, and Fightin' Joe watching film together. Taysom Hill will be selling insurance in Provo, and tending to his wives.

Ross

MM does’t know what to do with anybody or with timeouts or with training camp or with incompetent STs coaches or with too many Snickers bars in front of him and he thinks he is a great head coach?

$6,000.000/year for excuse after excuse. Earth to Murphy, your head coach is the weak link! Please replace him, he is misusing some very talented and some overpaid assets. No players are good enough or smart enough to make up for our slow thinking and stubborn HC.

Didn’t start the season with enough depth on the DLine so what should we expect. Packers never seem to respect the importance of trench talent so here we are.

Saw that Seattle has 4 RBs on the active roster and remarkably they have a solid run game. We have 2 and still don’t know how to run the ball. You are what you emphasize and the Packers are weak on all these football fronts. Ted and Mike have this team in a poor spot.

Hopefully, Gutekunst fixes thes next year with his draft and coach selection.
