Danny Vitale set to sign with New England Patriots

Well, this sucks.

From Meredith:

It's going to be depressing watching Josh McDaniels actually utilizing Vitale in the passing game.

Early in the 2019 season, Vitale had three 20-yard receptions from 21 personnel. But as the year went on, the Packers stopped using him in the passing game, then he got hurt.

Vitale finished the year with seven receptions for 97 yards.

Uh-oh, Gute's slipping. How did he let that difference maker get away.

All the build up and hype, Vitale was never given the opportunity to show his potential value. Wish him well in NE.

Belichick will know how to use him. He understands the basics of football and the TE/FB interplay in the passing game.
Should have secured Alec Ingold last season, but that's water under the bridge. Ham back with the vikes. Maybe they want a bigger guy at the FB spot?

There's a reason teams let players walk. Ones that don't get a lot of opportunities either don't have the ability or don't know the playbook.

Or they have a quarterback that doesn't throw to them enough to see whether they have the raw talent or not. You can't throw to just one person and expect the other receivers to show talent.

I actually think this is going to be more akin to a Taysom HIll departure than that of a Jeff Janis break-up.

But I hope not.

Emmanuel Sanders signed with NO for 2 years, $16M and $3M more in incentives, per Adam Schefter.

GB is essentially out of money anyway, unless they free some up with releases or restructures. No word of them converting any of the roster bonuses they paid out today.

Z Smith: $9M
P Smith: $4M
A. Amos: $4M
Several other smaller ones: Turner, Lowry and Crosby. AR as well, but that can't be converted to a signing bonus since they already restructured his deal once this year.

I am not going to judge whether Vitale just wasn't good enough, LaFleur didn't know what to do with him, or AR isn't good with throwing to FBs.

Vitale probably isn't worth a roster spot to GB.

Vitale was the last man standing at his position after training camp last season. Knee injury cost him lateral movement, but what really cost him is he couldn't block worth a damn early on. For any running back in Lafleur's system, can't block, don't play. He was expendable.
