Cory's Corner: The Packers Cannot Blink

The Packers have addressed the QB1 situation; now they cannot live in fear.

The Green Bay Packers mandatory minicamp starts today and it doesn't look like Aaron Rodgers is going to be there.

Don’t be surprised, not even for an instant. Wasn’t that expected? Rodgers has dug his feet in and even former Packers quarterback Brett Favre has described how strong his stubbornness is.

But that eerie feeling is happening with the Packers as well. “The situation we face with Aaron Rodgers has divided our fan base,” wrote Packers president Mark Murphy in a column on Packers.com. “The emails and letters that I’ve received reflect this fact. As I wrote here last month, we remain committed to resolving things with Aaron and want him to be our quarterback in 2021 and beyond. We are working to resolve the situation and realize that the less both sides say publicly, the better.”

This is a family squabble that doesn’t appear to have an end in sight. The rumors about the Denver Broncos do not go away and unfortunately, it makes some sense because his fiance Shailene Woodley is from the Denver area and the Broncos have been rumored to offer up two starters and as many as four draft picks.

But even as bleak as that may seem, I still don’t see Rodgers playing anywhere else this season. And I sincerely stress this season. The Packers have all the leverage right now. They have Rodgers under contract until 2023. Rodgers can complain that he wants more autonomy and more of a voice, but that isn’t going to behoove the Packers to trade him. Let’s not forget that Rodgers is the best passer I’ve ever seen and is a first ballot Hall of Famer.

If the Packers do trade Rodgers, are you willing to wait another four years before the Packers win a championship? The Packers have been a whisper away from the Super Bowl the last two seasons. This team is one or two people away.

And don’t start thinking that if the Packers trade Rodgers to Denver, it would mimic the Herschel Walker trade that allowed the Cowboys to lay the groundwork for three Super Bowl titles in four years. First of all, Rodgers is a lot more important to an offense than a running back and Dallas batted 1.000 on its first round picks in 1988 (Michael Irvin), 1989 (Troy Aikman) and 1990 (Emmitt Smith). Now, general manager Brian Gutekunst has been good in the draft, but I’m not sure he can be flawless.

Which is why the Packers should go out and add one or two guys. For all of the people that cannot stand Tom Brady, the reason we are at this point is because Brady left New England so he could go to a place that gave him a voice. (It also didn’t hurt that Tampa’s offensive line and defensive line were amazing and he had excellent pass catchers.)

The silver lining in all of this is that Packers receivers will be in Green Bay. The top five pass catchers didn’t show up for the voluntary organized team activities and now the receivers will show up. So what looked like a show of solidarity for Rodgers has simply turned out to be a voluntary no-show.

Gutekunst cannot blink right now. The rumors are going to be running rampant — especially with Rodgers not showing up in Green Bay. It’s not worth a trade because you’re not going to get full market value and the Packers don’t need picks, they need starters to help this team right now. Especially for a team that may start Blake Bortles depending on how well Jordan Love develops.

Has this been a distraction? Sure. Should the Packers bend to national pressure and trade the best quarterback the organization has ever had? That is one thing that every general manager doesn’t want on his resume.

The Packers can fix this. Do they have to bend Rodgers’ every whim? Nope. All they have to do is give a heads up on potential team moves. And then add someone like defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins or up and coming outside linebacker Harold Landry.

Those moves would tell Rodgers that the Packers are serious about winning now. You cannot trade Rodgers because you cannot win it all right away without him.

“If the Packers do trade Rodgers, are you willing to wait another four years before the Packers win a championship?“ Just one of many wild assumptions made here, Cory. Wild. You are out of your ever loving mind.

These are such bad takes, I’ll bet you’re lactose intolerant. No cheese for you!

Not to mention Cory starting with a double negative line, "... it doesn’t look like Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to be there." Semantically that means it DOES look like Rodgers WILL be there. Then Cory goes on to say that was expected. Hilarious.

Well stated GreenGold!

The Packers were here long before Rodger's and will be long after. With only one SB victory under Rodger's belt in 16 years he will just be a footnote in the history of the Packers.

No one is arguing the Packers won't be here. But to say that Rodgers will just be a "footnote" in the history of GB is ridiculous. Talent-wise, he may be the best QB this league has ever seen. He can do things with the football that no one else has done, including the ring toting GOAT. If GB let's Rodgers go now, Gutekunst will forever be known as the guy who lost the best QB Green Bay ever had; one that proclaimed many times he wanted to finish his career in GB, and one that has the best career rating of any QB ever to play the game. To call that a "footnote" is just ignoring the reality that GB may sink back into obscurity unless the new QB is a top 5-10 guy in the league. What are the chances? No way to tell.

If you want to blame the NFC Championship losses entirely on #12 that is patently unfair. Most year's he's kept them right in the mix and the defense has lost leads he's given them. TB was a very talented and very well coached team that knew how to exploit GB's weaknesses and still GB almost pulled it off. I can't argue that Rodgers has not lifted the team at times deep in the playoffs, but they wouldn't be anywhere near an NFC Championship game without him.

Talk about patently unfair!

None of the final four teams would have gotten to their CHAMPIONSHIP games without their QBs. None of those QBs would have gotten there with out a strong supporting cast. Please stop giving Rodgers such passes! That was not his best game as we all know.

The "O" line for both the Packers and the Chiefs were decimated. Let's face it the Buc's are good but they were also very lucky. A lot of things fell their way.

There were a number of reasons why the Packers lost that game. It's time to move on

You are correct, to a degree, WestCoast! He is very talented and can do things with the football that others can’t. But one thing he struggles with is winning the big game. All that talent and one Super Bowl. The blame can be spread around his supporting cast and the front office, but the bottom line is he struggles in the NFCC games. We will see what the future holds.

Yeah, I remember the same sentiments by Favre Acolytes.

The Lions and Vikings and Bears. Six of our 17 games . If we win five or six we’ll win the division and make the playoffs.. I think we can put a pretty good team on the field without Rodgers. Players come and go but the organization puts consistent winners on the field. Nobody thought Favre or Rodgers was a HOFer at the start of their second season, or even solid starter material.

On the basis of our line and our skill position players, even a mediocre QB should be able to move the ball and score points. We’re certainly competitive without Rodgers.

How long have we waited with him? It’s hardly a given and this year is looking like the peak with cap even without him possibly wanting more more of the cap, if that rumor is true.

Rodgers this year gives us our best shot, after that age and cap realities both pull in the opposite direction. If all years to be here and leading, this would seem to have been it. Even then it’s no given. Reading Packers blogs you’d think Packers plus Rodgers is odds on Super Bowls for 3 to 5 years.

GG, I Love your all in on Love. Man I hope your right. Ya 4 years seems a bit long but unlike my guy, I don't see a real SB run for at least 3 years. Couple reasons

1) Love vs AR isn't even close. I'm using AR himself and his development timeline. He didn't even see the field much at all his 2nd and 3rd year I can't expect much of Love yet. 9-8 would be a success in my eyes in 2021. Not fair to compare him to an outlier Mahomes.

2) This one could go either way. Cap space. The packers are so far over already for 2022 that even w/o Rodgers it might be tough to fit in JA and DA - which Im sure they will. But at what cost? I'm not taking the time to dive that deep.

But having the BEST offense makes having a good defense acceptable. What type of Defense will they need with Love at QB? What is the pathway to that? Draft/FA/Development/Trade - - I'm encouraged about the D and the ability to get better if they have more resources through the trade (be it cap space, players or draft picks)

4 years isn't so crazy, I'm hoping for 3. The good news? we already have a QB to at least give us a shot w/o having to lose 13-15 games in a season or spend 2 1st rd draft picks plus. Here's one for you? if the Packers play Love this season and go 7-10 would you draft a QB in the first RD? LOL - Seriously - Even spend some draft capital to move up. To be honest, if it was the best value on the board, I'd do it. For all the same reasons it made sense last year and more.

Hey Dino, I’m thinking this really isn’t that much of a stretch.

I saw what Love did in 2018, and feel that is most representative of the player we have, and believe that will readily translate to the NFL, leading the Packers successfully, especially with talent around him.

He was one of the most accurate passers in college football that season. Projecting out with him keeping that accuracy in mind, along with his arm strength, along with his being guided by Matt LaFleur, I see not only good, but great things ahead for both Love and the Packers.

Let’s not forget, the Packers went all in on taking JL. They researched him well, had multiple interviews with him, knew exactly what they were buying.

Were they oblivious to AR and how he might take this? No.

Regardless, the key to success in this situation is Matt LaFleur. He’s already guided two QBs to MVP seasons. I think he’s going to be able to see Jordan Love through this season successfully, with few problems, and anything that comes of that should be considered playing with house money.

Playoffs? Absolutely. Even if AR just sits out this year. I have that much confidence in Love, and even more in LaFleur.

If Rodgers won’t play, whether it’s his fault ultimately, The FOs or both, the Packers will go on and I will be rooting for them regardless of whether it’s Love, Bortles or someone I’ve never heard of at QB.

The sad fact is that with or without this, Rodgers career is in its final years. The sadder fact is that it didn’t need to be this year. Losing in the playoffs or losing seasons? Ultimately both are futile.

Back when TT left, I never imagined we’d have a roster that a 38 year old QB could win a Super Bowl with. Now we have one it seems that QB objects to something unspecified about the manner of its assembly ( if that’s really it). Just seems like the most ridiculous position.

I’m sorry, normally I’d see non attendance at mini camp as simply undesirable. In this case I see it as a sign of a man whose priorities aren’t on winning in the one year I think he has his last best chance. The team is there, he’s paid handsomely ... just get out and play. In such circumstances leadership might give that slight edge. I’d argue that’s what Brady really gave Tampa. Contrast what he and Rodgers are doing ... and Brady just won it last year.

Coldworld, this is where it might help to remove yourself, the Packer fan, my friend, and look at EXACTLY what has been said, and what has been done.

Aaron simply doesn't want to play in Green Bay anymore. It is that simple. It's been 16 years. He's got other priorities with having asked a woman to marry him, and his desires to start a new family.

I think that is all this is.

Not about how well we are set up in Green Bay, or how much money we are willing to throw at him...

You look at Denver, they are stacked with talent on D, enough to be able to send some key players in exchange for Rodgers, and still be loaded. Losing 3 or 4 players from their D is really nothing to them. They have that much talent. They have the cap space. They have the picks. They have the gunslinger, John Elway, calling the shots.

I've been listening to some Broncos podcasts and reading some of their blog posts to try and get the lay of the land there. They are wondering where Ronald Darby is going to be lining up as a 4th CB...

The fan in me says, "Hell yeah, this is hard to believe!!!" Just like yourself, and everybody else here.

Rodgers hasn’t said anything. He never does. He likes to make opaque comments and feed general themes through contacts. You may be right. A plausible interpretation could be that this is just a horribly botched attempt to sever the ties for personal al reasons. The problem is that there are many plausible reasons becase it’s all rumor, on his end particularly.

So I look at what we can see, the chances of winning and what it will take and the consequences of events to date. And I look at those from the perspective of a person who was here before Rodgers and plans to be here after and knew that day would come and that we’d be backing some new QB and team at some point.

As a result if Rodgers’ position (whatever the cause) I believe that he and we miss our best chance at winning this year and that Love will be forced into action too early in a way that I think would have seriously impaired Rodgers career. I don’t like it, but I sure as anything am not going to pander to the man who created it.

Yeah, we're coming from the same place, overall.

We do differ on a couple of points.

I think he did communicate that, through his cryptic MO, using an intermediary. I believe that to be true because he has had ample opportunities to declare those statements inaccurate, and he has chosen not to do so in every case.

I also think Jordan Love may actually be a better QB to run our offense, given that he is taking his cues from Matt LaFleur, and he's not going to be making decisions during any game that are contrary to his wishes.

Let's run the fucking football. That's what I say. Is there anybody here who thinks our OL won't enjoy the hell outta that?

First, John Elway is not the GM anymore. He no longer controls roster decisions per announcements made when he stepped down. And DEN ranked 25th in defense last season. Are they going to be that much better, given that they'll have to give up some talent in order to trade for #12? I don't see Aaron going anywhere that gives him a better chance to thrive than GB. Not sure what makes you think DEN is going to be that much better than GB.

Blink? They turned their heads with nose up. It's so obvious; they want his salary gone. Off their Books. And they have to keep showing their intent, to stop a unfair practice suit. How timely was that Overwhelming vote of confidence for Gute? That was a insult to Rodger's intelligence. Let alone Murphy coming out of the wood work; to say Rodgers has split Packer Nation. When the truth is their actions to go all in said it all. It will take at least 5 years again, to go to a super-bowl. The window on all veterans just got shut. Murphy has prospered more then any CEO in packer history with the splits. So throw your knife at Murphy's feet. Rodgers has done all the work to win. Not the FO. Gute has made more then his share of mistakes. So don't beat Murphy's drum that he's the best GM since Lombardi. They don't want Rodgers back; regardless what lies you've been told. Rodgers has constantly made that point. ( He wasn't sure.) So get off the FO bandwagon and come back down to earth. The split would never had happened if they didn't want it too.

"The Packers have been a whisper away from the Super Bowl the last two seasons. This team is one or two people away. "

Ever consider that maybe one of those people they're a whisper away from a Super Bowl is the starting QB? Rodgers has had five cuts at it, and came up short in four of them. Maybe a good QB, a dominant run game, a kick-butt OL and a fire-breathing, meat eating defense is a more effective approach than a QB who tends to play small when the games are biggest.

If we were a whisper away versus the 49ers then a speaking voice could blow ear drums all the way from the West Coast.

Last year was closer, but I believe we were equally thoroughly out prepared and outcoached and the worst games were had by sone of our best players. Yes Pettine is gone, but LaFleur is still learning. One hopes he will take that step this year. Last year he most certainly got whipped twice by the same coach for the second year running.

Coldworld, We were out prepared before the game, then we were outplayed on the field. Most importantly the Bucs player with a higher level of intensity and a higher sense of urgency. We never played with a lead and our OL had no answer for the Bucs pass rush. Equally our defense never produced a consistent pass rush or any pressure on Brady.

All of those are signs of poor preparation and lack of intensity especially at the LOS. Then we had numerous poor coaching decisions within the game itself. The Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles had a great game plan whereas the Packers had Pettine and King. Imagine if Bowles had been our DC for even a few seasons during the Rodgers era. But we've had Capers and Pettine.

Poor preparation and poor coaching decisions result in poor execution which is what we witnessed in both games against the Bucs. Losing A. Jones early in the 2nd half didn't help and probably contributed to lack of run plays called during the second half. Bottom is that if you give a defense like the Bucs 31 points they are not likely to give the game away by playing soft as the Packers defense has done for 10 years under Capers and Pettine.

No excuses. Failure from the HC, coaching staff and the players.

In another world 26 would be more than 31 and we would have defeated the Bucs and won the SB. If we didn't win it was because the other side cheated and stole the game from us. Every one knows it. The packers will be given the Lombardi trophy in August. LOL.

I look at the nine plays that killed us.

The two turnovers.
The 0-6 in goal to go.
King’s Fail.

If One of those plays has a better result, we win.

We aren’t a player or two away, we’re one PLAY away. I’m not sure how much of that is coaching.

One turnover should have been a penalty on the Bucs defense. What was bad in that sequence was the dropped pick by Redmond. That was a gift from Brady but I would agree not on coaching.

The 0-6 in goal to go is on lack of preparation and poor execution. Missing Jones late in the game hurt us in that situation as well. The team had trouble in short yardage and goal to goal all season. That's on coaching and preparation. Our OL lost the LOS which also contributed to the 0-6.

King's fail to me is on coaching because King was beaten deep early in the game for a TD. An adjustment should have been made to provide Safety help for King deep.

We need to get past those one or two plays on both sides of the ball. Thanks, Since '61

After the Seattle disaster the collective brain trust needed a renovation. Now, it is too late and low-Ball has leverage to squat a few more years. Their game plan was to play monopoly to fill four voids in 2019 to cover for the Ted whiffs and double down on a weak Norris Division to get into the playoff lottery. The no shows from Gutedkunst's drafts ruined the depth chart and resources were moved away from the D line and WR. The UDFAs were starting as CBs. The areas exploited by the T -Bucs and 49rs. It only takes a couple of players with an average skill set to Not make a couple of plays when needed and you are out of the dance party; out of the Big Game.

Rodgers would be foolish not to play for the Packers should the team agree to give him another $60 million in guaranteed money to ensure that he plays at least another two years with the team without danger of being released. But it seems logical to conclude that Rodgers would be willing to forgive the insanity of the Love pick (we can agree to disagree on this point) and the failure to inform him (of their fail safe replacement strategy in the event of Rodgers having a bad season) of their intention of picking his successor in the first round of the draft instead of a WR or another player who could help the Packers sooner rather than in three or four years.

The Pack needs to pay Rodgers. He expressed his wish to remain with the team and dedicate himself to winning another Super Bowl. His reward for such commitment was Gutekunst's decision to draft his replacement instead of a win-now impact player. Given Rodgers' prickly nature and ultra-sensitivity to the slightest slight, it is incredible that the Pack drafted Love. This is why the Packers are now facing the terrible uncertainty of not having the NFL MVP and one of the top five QBs in league history willing to commit to playing for the team any longer. Gutekunst's collossal failure of judgment is equivalent to an extinction level event in the sense that GB's likelihood of being able to contend for a Super Bowl in the next several years without Rodgers at the helm is virtually zero.

Time for Gute and the Pack to pay Rodgers for their mistake and get on with the business of winning a Super Bowl. Go Pack Go!

Harold, respectfully, the Packers have paid, and paid, and paid, and paid... they offered him $40M and he turned it down.

It is ENTIRELY CREDIBLE the Packers chose Jordan Love. I’m glad they did, because he gives us a chance to win it all, guided by Matt LaFleur.

I’m sorry, but JL is a far better QB than people give him credit for. Have you thought for one second that the Packers might be better with Love at QB1? The team might actually be better with Love leading the way. No one knows...

I have zero fear with the Packers making this transition now, and it really looks like they have no alternative.

You do not give up the entire organization for one player who has failed in his last 8 postseason attempts over ten years to lead the Packers into the Super Bowl for a chance to win it.

There are currently 89 other players on this team. Aaron Rodgers is angry? ESPN just said that. Is he? Maybe he just doesn’t want to play in GB. He’s dug in and he is NOT changing his mind.

What then? The rest of the team has to fold? Oh, hell no, my friend.

Moving on.

Spot on!

Love is a far better QB than most give him credit for. I am confidant in his talent and abilities. Have zero reservations he is going to be an amazing talent. Believe Rodgers knows this as well.

As an ex-athlete myself you knew within minutes of playing whether another player 'had it,' or not. You just know! Rodger's knows and why the drama!

All JL needs (as Rodgers needs) is a talented supporting cast. Everyone seems to think Rodger's is the key to winning a SB. The main reason the Packers won the SB in 2010 was because of our defense. We have not had a defense like 2010 since. Fleece Denver (Jeudy & Fant on offense, and Chubb & Surtain, or any combination) with a minimum of 1st and 2nd round picks in 2022. Build the team immediately guaranteeing immediate success. Love will flourish and I'm comfortable with Bortles at backup.

What no one has discussed here at CHTV is if the Packers succumbs to Rodger's guaranteeing him 2 or 3 years as starter is you have now pissed off JL meaning he likely will not sign once his rookie contract expires. No competitive athlete will be happy if they are the better player but for reasons out of their control they cannot get on the field. If Rodger's remains a Packer let JL have an open competition each year and may the best player win.

Having said the above Rodger's being a Packer would be the worst thing hindering Love's development. JL needs to play and NOT set on the bench behind Rodgers.

I do not know if Love is going to be a good player. I am certain no one here knows that he’s not.

This isn’t about Love. If Love waited as long as Rodgers, Rodgers would be 41. At that point no one knows if either will still be playing, if they are playing well and if they are healthy, yet so many are certain Love Sucks and Rodgers will still be worth a staggering salary reflecting a player who is expected to carry a team. More things no one can know yet so many are sure of.

We do know that one guy is a 3x MVP and Has won a SB. The rules of the game have changed for quarterback
longevity. We know Rodgers keeps himself in top shape and doesn't work the beer barrel circuit or 2-4-1s.
It is a simple negotiation taking place with the idea of guaranteed years in his contract. If he really wanted the out, he would have been traded.

Well said. One absurd way to measure value is to look at what you could get by trading either player. Rodgers is estimated to be worth a pretty heavy haul, while love maybe could recoup a first round pick - maybe. Seems a lot of value based on potential to develop into a good qb. And I'm not suggesting he won't. I am saying that there are some strongly optimistic views on love and he hasn't earned them yet. I think love's capital has benefited more from a dislike of Rodgers than from anything he had accomplished.

"I’m sorry, but JL is a far better QB than people give him credit for. "

I would amend this to say that JL may eventually be a far better QB than people give him credit for. There will be growing pains for him, and he'll need time in the saddle to grow. I think it would be foolish for people to assume no dropoff in the offense with a change in QB...not to mention the fact that he may not be asked to do nearly as much, so the nature of his play and his numbers may be apples and oranges with ARod's.

Most of what I'd ask him to do initially when he becomes the starter is to take care of the football. If he starts there, good things will follow.

My point in saying that was maybe this Packers team plays better with Jordan Love at QB instead of Aaron Rodgers. Not saying Jordan Love's passing numbers would be better, but that he would likely run the offense more in the manner Matt LaFleur wishes to see it run, and that might prove more effective.

On that note, Jordan Love can spin it. His numbers from his best season at Utah St. were better than Aaron Rodgers' numbers from his best season at Cal. I know people will say, "but, he wasn't in a top 5 conference..."

Yeah. It's all a guessing game until we see the live bullets. Patrick Mahomes won the MVP after his rookie season sitting behind Alex Smith, just watching him play...

The kid can throw the football. Guess we'll be finding out here shortly.

I'm not talking about the two players as passers. I'm talking about how the team works with a QB who does what his HC wants vs. one who might be less attentive to those directions. If you can't see the difference, sorry.

HD: While I would prefer the Packers retain Rodgers, I am no where near as judgmental about the potential for losing him. I say that because of my own learning curve with the Favre / Rodgers situation more than a decade ago. I wanted the Packers to retain Favre and trade Rodgers, but the Packers did the opposite and flourished. Whether the next great Packer QB is Jordan Love or someone else, I learned the organization can move on from any player and see good days again.

I am very much in the camp of keep Rodgers if you can without relinquishing control of vital management functions to a player. If Rodgers wants too much control, trade him. The Packers will move on and so will I. Go Pack Go!

The chances that ARod would be released in the next two seasons are about the same as my replacing him as starting QB. He's either QB of the Packers or dealt to someone else. His value as a commodity--either in trade or as the leader of this team--makes him someone who won't be released. We can't overstate the strategic importance of having control over where he goes...which is lost if you turn him loose. Let's remove the word "release" from our lexicon when talking about #12.

The matter of release is a salary cap issue. I believe that a trade does not absolve the Packers of a certain level of cap hit that depends on whether his existing contract is extended further. I just want to see him play for the Packers because I have watched tape of Love and I don't like his throwing action nor his accuracy. As Nagler often points out, Love is a work in progress and at least a year or two away from becoming an NFL calibre QB. The danger in not retaining Rodgers is the loss of the current window where the Packers have managed to keep the roster intact for this season and with the exception of one or two star players for 2022 as well. Rodgers has at least two or three good years left if one uses Brady or Brees as comparable players who were very effective in their late thirties.

Not trying to be a snoot (and: TGR, correct me if I'm wrong) but a release and a trade have the same cap implications.

The issues of control and compensation weigh big here, and he'll always have value on the trade market.

I’ve said this here multiple times, we don’t know what Rodgers is asking or what Green Bay is offering. We have heard from James Jones, John Kuhn and AJ Hawk that Rodgers is not looking for more money or to see Gutenkunst fired. I will assume they have real insights and these statements are true. It was reported, and this may or may not be true, GB offered to make Rodgers the highest paid player in NFL history and he turned it down. If true, throwing money at Rodgers will not resolve this issue. Until we actually learn what Rodgers is asking it is difficult for me to agree or disagree with the Front Office. It is entirely possible that one or both sides are being unreasonable.

If the Packers give a 38 year old player that much guaranteed we will be hard pushed to recover in a decade as we will be cap poor with a new QB and a weak roster. Mind numbingly destructive. If they do that, the whole FO should be marched out of the building.

I have another proposal - lets give Aaron Rodgers all $180.000.000 and let him play alone. I'm sure he will win all. Alone!

You are blind! Go watch WR one by one through the season and you'll find interesting data. Many drops by Packers WR came because ball was either overthrown or underthrown from Aaron. Not all. Some of the drops were on WR account, but not all. And not at small amount!

Do you people really believe that both broken clavicule did not left influence on Aaron throws? Really? Be serious.

Second, I agree with many that Jordan Love is not yet prepared for starting job. If not for other reason but because the speed of the game. In NFL players have to play much faster than at college level. Not only running or throwing or blocking, but in the most important part - in processing situations and decisions. Some players are faster in catching the speed, some adapts them at slower rate.

Preseason games will show us how far Jordan Love adapts to the NFL level. If he will dominate in those preseason games, it may show us that he is near that speed. If he will be just OK or just very good, than it will be the problem. Than he will need another year.

This is why Packers coaching straff is still reluctant to announce if Aaron Rodgers will not play for Packers this season, Jordal Love will be starter.

But if he will be dominant in preseason, decision will be much easier. I believe that Aaron Rodgers knows Jordan Love is not yet prepared and he thinks that is his leverage. But he also knows that next year is very likely that Jordan Love will be there as real threat to Aaron's tenure in Green Bay.

Again, MVP title belongs to Aarons offense too. His teammates were very often open or capable to catch not so good placed ball. That title belongs to them too.

So, we may calculate and we may taking sides and we may believe what we want, but there is the fact, solid one: It is contract signed by Aaron Rodgers and Packers which gives Packers rights to keep Aaron Rodgers on their roster for the next 3 seasons, played or not. And Packers fulfilled all from their side. The only one who ows is Aaron Rodgers, not Packers...

I agree with the comment that many passes were not perfect, but no one can expect perfect passes all the time. What we do know is Rodger's arguably had the best OL last year and his total numbers of sacks and hurries were down, which should have benefitted him greatly with his passing accuracy.

The last two years have shown fans that a team is more than one player. Rodgers is a great QB, but Green Bay couldn't win the SB with him except for one magical run over 10 years ago.
The question isn't if the Packers can win without him, but do they allow the inmates run the asylum? My idea is they trade and build and find out if they can build a SB team.

As it stands now, Rodgers does not want to be a Packer. Again actions speak louder than words. The Front office still holds the high ground. They will decide Rodger's fate. IMO, Rodgers will hold out, the Front office will hold on, and the next decision will come in September. It looks like those players missing the "voluntary camp" will all be back today. That is the first major step to uniting the team.

So for those who believe the Denver deal is done, I do not think so. Time will tell, but my best guess is the Packers will not trade Rodgers before he possibly holds out in training camp or the beginning of the season. Then it is unlikely Denver will be able to make a blockbuster deal at that time. Therefore Rodgers must crap or get off the pot. Rodgers decides he is not reporting, he holds out for the entire season, then gets traded before 2022 season. If he reports, he plays, until the 2022 season. If he strangely has questionable performances in his early games, he sits & the Love-Bortles combo begins.

The best possible outcome would be for Denver to make that blockbuster trade now. The Pack would need to hold the Broncos at ransom to do this. If this does not occur, Rodgers must decide his only one of two choices. Are you in or are you out? If Rodgers is not traded this year, the Conga Line will be an impressive one next year. The highest bidder gets Rodgers. The more bidders the better.

Whatever happens, it looks like Rodgers is losing the PR war. More fans are not as pleased with Rodgers now, and the Front office is going to decide Roger's "FATE". Football is still a team sport. One bad apple can spoil others. The future is now, not last year. Rodgers is painting himself into a smaller and smaller corner. The Rodgers legacy has taken a hit, it will be forever tainted.

I agree with virtually all of what you've said here...

"If he strangely has questionable performances in his early games, he sits & the Love-Bortles combo begins."

If he returns, don't see any way #12 is benched. He would have to be worse than Mitchell Trubisky bad.

"The best possible outcome would be for Denver to make that blockbuster trade now. The Pack would need to hold the Broncos at ransom to do this."

At this point, I don't see any way the Packers could get real value for ARod in a summer deal. A lack of trade partners (especially given the reduced cap) and lowballing by teams hoping the Packers just want to clear him off the books and get anything in return will prevent that.

"the Congo Line will be an impressive one next year. "

Sorry to do this, but it's "conga line".

This "situation" was recently compared to the Carson Palmer-Cincinnati Bengals situation from a few years ago. I live between Cincinnati and Dayton and saw this one up close. This makes Bengals owner Mike Brown look smart (hard to believe I'm saying so!).

Several players have skipped OTAs in the past. This is nothing new.

Palmer was traded in-season because Oakland needed a new QB. They were willing to pay Mike Brown's asking price. Denver and Las Vegas have been mentioned multiple times as being interested in Rodgers. So was San Francisco. Once the regular season begins, another team may likely decide they need a QB and approach GB with an offer similar to what the Raiders gave up for Palmer. Time will tell.

I agree, and they share the same agent.

The best price this year will come if the starter on a good team goes down. For example, Brady is lost for the season. That’s the only circumstance that I can see a team willing to offer real value. The problem is, does that team actually have value we covet to trade? A secondary consideration is whether we’d want him playing for a team like Tampa. If we are not as bad as some think, maybe not.

The most viable trade scenario is next year. If Rodgers won’t buy into that then that speaks volumes and maybe Greengold is right. He only wants Denver. In those circumstances let’s hope Denver really is besotted, because otherwise Rodgers is sitting on the couch this year, willingly or not.

I can see a reason why AR might not want to go to TB. If he picks up the reins from an injured Brady in TB and doesn't win a SB, he cements the negative comparison between Brady and AR as to winning super bowls. OTOH, going to TB gives AR an excellent chance to win a super bowl. But the best he can do is equal what Brady did.

Blondy, nice perspective!

My only additional thoughts are there is no way Rodger's sits out this year. Zero! He always has been and always will be about his stats. If he cannot win Super Bowls, which he obviously can't than he has to have the QB stats to be mentioned as one of the greatest QB's of all time. He cannot afford to sit out a year.

He also cannot afford to sit out and miss several games before coming back. By doing so, JL (Bortles too) will have all summer, pre-season, and early games of season to develop and get into rythm with offense. Rodger's cannot afford to let Love get such an upper hand because he doesn't know if Love becomes the next Mahommes in year 2. Plus, it would take Rodgers a good month or longer to get up to speed and play.

This issue between Rodger's and the Packers will be resolved one way or another before the regular season starts. Count on it!

To be fair, I'm not sure how many more players the team can even add to "win now" when Rodgers' contract is in high question. If they settled this, and got an extension done they probably could. But they can only move so much money around until then. I don't think this is about the talent on or not on the roster at all, but that's just my 2 cents. Cory, assuming that Rodgers is sincere in his insane demand for guarantees (which will destroy the near-term future of the franchise), then the Packers "blinking" would be giving in to those demands, not trading him. If we instead assume that Rodgers actually wants to be traded, then "blinking" depends on whether he has been more upfront with the team than with the press. With Rodgers' love of cryptic messaging, he may not have been.

Lets say that Rodgers has indeed told the team that he won't ever play for them again and has asked to be traded to Denver. Let's also assume that he's man enough to keep this a secret from the press in order to facilitate a trade that helps both sides. Finally, lets assume that the Packers and Broncos have been trying to work out a trade and that there are sticking points (as GreenGold has said) about the other players involved. If "blinking" in your sense means we give in to Rodgers' trade demands, then I'm all for it - I'd rather blink to remove the mote in my eye than refuse to blink until it turns into a plank.

Let's get his ass out of town, turn over a new leaf with more money available, and get on with the business of winning a championship with players who WANT to play in Green Bay and who WANT to win a championship and not host a game show.

Not really.

Figure, if Aaron Rodgers makes his way to DEN, who is STACKED, btw, he'll likely take a page from Tom Brady's book and rework his deal with the Broncos to make it possible for them to add talent via FA.

Not to mention, this is likely going to be a package deal. It is possible we'll learn more today just by seeing which of our WRs participate or show up.

DEN held these players out, again yesterday, in their 3rd week of practices: OLB Bradley Chubb, DE Shelby Harris, NT Mike Purcell, ILB Baron Browning. TE Noah Fant and CB Ronald Darby were new to their list of players not practicing.

If Davante or MVS don't practice, we can likely expect the Packers to pull the trigger soon. If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time. I just see this lining up, and the fact that we're still in this situation 6 weeks after the draft day bombshell kind of lends some credence to the idea.

We have to figure it would be one hell of a deal, and DEN would very likely rather trade players they can afford to part with vs. adding more picks to the pile. Those first four defenders have been held out of practice activities for the Broncos the entire way through. I'm sure there are a lot of discussions going on as to compensation for any number of different trade packages. That takes time.

Maybe Gutekunst wants Surtain ll and DEN isn't budging. Maybe DEN wants Davante, and GB isn't budging... it's all guesswork as to the many possibilities.

"he'll likely take a page from Tom Brady's book and rework his deal with the Broncos to make it possible for them to add talent via FA."

They'll rework his deal because that's what it will take to make him happy. The process might make his cap hit palatable in the short term, but he'll be pricier than anyone they (meaning Denver) would start now. The deal will make him tradeable by Denver (or whatever destination team) in 2-3 years (as a guess).

Yeah. The Broncos and their fans would lose their shit being able to add the NFL MVP, who has nothing wrong with him other than he doesn't want to play for GB.

Elway is opportunistic. Elway is a gunslinger. Elway is Team President of Football Ops. He knows what he wants, and is willing to pay for it. Of course they will rework AR's deal if the Packers decide to go for it.

I think Gutekunst and Murphy should pull the trigger. DEN is a perfect trading partner at this time, and I question whether he will be worth more in a year.

LP, Denver is very rich in offensive weapons. Good RB's, good TE's, and good WR's.

Regardless of who the Packers would get on defense, the Broncos have a surplus of good WR's and TE's. For them to give up a Cortland (not happening), a Jeudy, a Hammler, or Fant wouldnt be the end of the world for them. The Broncos have seen what Rodger's has done with average WRs, excluding Adams.

How ironic if the Packers fleece Denver and it is the Packers who win the SB sometime in the next couple of years and not Denver. That would forever be a footnote about Rodger's.

I'm sure if this trade consideration is even going on that there will be some existing Packers that will also be going to Denver. Neither team can be seen as having gotten a terrible deal for their fan base.

I’m not sure about this theory, or at least that Denver is willing to pay as much as is floated, but I agree that, on paper, Denver is one team team that is at least plausibly just missing a QB. If we traded Rodgers to Denver I’d look at Adams for a receiver. It may not help Love but it would make more contractual and future cap sense as well as keeping Rodgers happy.

"I’m not sure about this theory, or at least that Denver is willing to pay as much as is floated..."

Given that there's no substantive report of any contact between the Broncos and the Packers since draft day, this talk is all fantasy football.

Best play for denver is waiting to see if the situation continues to deteriorate. I don't believe Denver will bet the farm on Rodgers, but will steal him if things get so bad that the FO is willing to let him go for a few picks instead of losing him to retirement and getting nothing. I don't think any team would trade without Rodgers willing consent and this is really limits the negotiating power.

I agree with others that the FO holds the cards, but Rodgers has created a limited market that gives his chosen teams a strong negotiating position.

the only reason most players "want" to play and live in Green Bay is either money or being able to play with Rodgers and at least have a chance at a championship. Once he's gone and if the team is obviously not heading for a super bowl, lets see how many want to come to Green Bay...

I think that’s BS. It’s football in the cap era, you go where the money is. If you hadn’t noticed, most of our stars grew from not much with the Packers anyway. I guess you thought JJ Watt would come here for free because of Rodgers.

This is not about today this is a failure of a organization with no owner , the Favre fiasco , the heartbreaking losses like the Seattle debacle McCarthy should have been fired , its about keeping Dom Capers , Ron Zook too long , its about letting players walk too soon , Woodson , Jenkins, Cobb ,Hyde etc, etc, etc, Its about waiting on draft and development, its about having back to back 20 years plus of hall of fame quarterbacks and only 2 super bowl wins , its about a fan base who rationalize that making the playoffs is good enough if the Packers had an owner over the past 20 years they would have more Lombardi's , you don't strike gold 3 times the run on HOF quarterbacks is over , two wasted careers , Love is just a guy who plays QB , thats how it will be in Green Bay for the foreseeable future, get ready.

You nailed it partly....most of the crap-outs in the big games were failure of team preparation/coaching. There was enough talent. Sure, a few more superstars could have compensated, but a good coach can almost always beat superior talent with lesser talent if the team is well prepared with the right approach. Almost always. 3-4 saavy old basketball players can almost always beat a bunch of young studs. Failure of an organization is a bit overly harsh. There were changes. Every organization has failures in personnel, cut bait, and move on without wasting tears. Move on.

Lp, would you have wanted Jerry Jones, Mark Davis, Daniel Snyder, Zygi Wilf, Virginia McCaskey, Mike Brown, Jimmy Haslam, Jim Irsay, Dean Spanos, or Robert and Christopher Johnson making the calls in Green Bay the last 20 years? And, you can't say Bob Kraft, because he was, you know, busy. Busy dealing with the pressure in his own special way, and that wouldn't fly with the Martha Circle at St John's Lutheran.

The current Aaron Rodgers situation is the natural result of Mark Murphy’s mismanagement over the last ten years.

After the Packers won the Super Bowl in 2010, and it became obvious Aaron Rodgers was a generational talent, instead of acting with urgency to capitalize and win multiple Lombardi Trophies with him at quarterback, Mark Murphy chose to spend his time and energy designing an ice skating rink for Titletown. When the Packers lost to Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers for the second time in a row in 2013, Dom Capers should have been replaced. When the Packers lost to Seattle in the 2014 NFCCG after they had a 16-0 lead at halftime, Mike McCarthy should have been replaced. When everyone understood Ted Thompson was not well and making poor draft decisions, Mark Murphy did nothing.

The best years of Aaron Rodgers’ career have been squandered by complacency. It’s no wonder why Aaron Rodgers feels the way he does.

I agree with this. Leadership and coaching failure to prepare players, and ability to overcome situational changes on the field during the full 60 minutes, and ability to compensate for any players' mistakes and mismatches. That is coaching.

“This is a family squabble that doesn’t appear to have an end in sight.” Well this should end up OK then, considering AR’s history of reconciliation with family. What bothers me most about this is that QB1 is scorching the earth a bit and harming MY team. If he stays or goes, it is a potential black mark on the team that could affect other players’ attitudes and perhaps potential free agent signings. I feel like the organization has made huge efforts in making GB a place players want to play...excellent facilities, historic stadium, good coaches, winning records, chances of future greatness. We’ve come a long way since Reggie said, “Yes.” This puts an unnecessary hit on the hard work that has been going on since the 90’s. If Aaron doesn’t want to play here, get him out fast and for as much as we can get. Before he does any more damage to MY team. Yes, I can wait 4 years or 40 if that’s what it takes. I’ve done it before...

You know it is odd how many posters on the various Packers blogs who were concerned with Rodgers fragility a couple of years ago now seem to think him not only indestructible but ageless.

The rebuild was coming soon anyway, or at least attempt one. If Jordan Love accelerated it we would have won the lottery indeed. Now we have to try before it’s ideal for him in the team’s planning and before time diminished Rodgers if he won’t be here on his current contract. In those circumstances, may as well get started. Won’t get to the promised land until we start walking. Just hadn’t planned on having to start hiking just yet.

When Favre was shipped to the East coast after the NFC Championship loss and a regular season 13 & 3 season (sound familiar?), and Rodger's started the following season the Packers had less than half the victories from the previous season.

Rodger's was not ready even after sitting behind for 3-seasons. Somehow the Packer organization survived and we went on to win a SB a few years later.

Trade the diva and add talent all around the QB position. Love will lead the Packers to the promised land! Hopefully, we find out that Love is able to win big games in the playoffs which would be refreshing!

The Packers are obviously a better contender with Rodgers than without Rodgers - so moving on will be difficult for the organization. Drafting Jordan Love (moving up nonetheless) was a mistake given the egos involved. We accelerated an inevitable decision. Given Aaron Rodgers behaviour, you cannot let this kind of person dictate to the team. This passive aggressive bullshit, talking out of both sides of your mouth and victim talk is what we will continue to get from the "superstar" ego.

Rodgers is showing us exactly who he is and it won't get any better. If the organization wants to plaster this over, we will have to spend the future and cripple the franchise for the foreseeable future. Rodger's original contract and timeline was the right design. Stick to it or get the most out of our princess in the next year.

I would say, given the situation, that drafting Love wasn't a mistake. Without Love where would we be now? Rodgers would have all the leverage. Given Rodgers relationship history (his family and past GFs) this was always going to be a messy divorce.

And why did it take drafting a QB for Rodgers to clean up his act, get back to the fundamentals, and buy into the offense?

The past two years have really made me question Rodgers workethic and desire to win. I don't think it's fantasy to say that without drafting Love, Rodgers doesn't change and doesn't win MVP.

The Mike McCarthy offense was predicated on passing 75% of the time, even though MM said he liked to run the ball. The Matt LaFleur offense is geared toward running 50% of the time. So the pressure on the QB is less.

When you look at how the MLF offense works the need for a deep receiving threat is there but nowhere near as necessary as the MM offense. So the NEED to have Aaron Rodgers around being a pain in the rear is less.

Can Blake Bortles be AR? No. But could he and Love be good enough? Maybe.

The really sad thing about this is Rodgers has a legit chance to be a playoff contender this year in Green Bay.
I'm not sure Denver is a playoff contender if you look at their division. The Raiders also are not likely to be playoff contenders either. From a football standpoint, going to any AFC team in need of a QB(exception possibly Miami) is like starting over.

One factor that the media hasn't touched on is the Shailene Woodley influence. Seems all of this started after his 'new relationship' came about. This is not unlike what happened to Colin Kapernick after he found a woman who was a political advocate. Something to think about.

"When you look at how the MLF offense works the need for a deep receiving threat is there but nowhere near as necessary as the MM offense. "

I might argue that a non-ARod offense will lean more heavily on the run game and short passes--especially with a young QB (Love) or a QB not known for his deep ball prowess (Bortles)-- and will need deep threats to keep safeties out of the box and defenses honest. You don't need to be a downfield offense to get that effect...you just need to be able to threaten downfield.

"I'm not sure Denver is a playoff contender if you look at their division. The Raiders also are not likely to be playoff contenders either. "

With the expanded playoffs, everyone is thinking playoffs pretty much every year. We're going to see 8-8 and 7-9 teams getting in on a regular basis.

I think a lot changes there if Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler are thrown into a trade package.

I don't want the Packers to lose out on retaining Davante Adams. However, there is a possibility Davante wants to go with AR to DEN. If that is the case, adding both Jeudy and Hamler could be beneficial there. There is a possibility Courtland Sutton and MVS are a part of these discussions too. Sutton is one hell of a WR. He's been out the entire time as well recovering from his ACL surgery last September.

Jeudy, Hamler & Sutton are all deep threats.

My guess is that this has been a big part of the hold up with the Aaron Rodgers trade. The other being the Packers FO making certain they are past the point of no return with Aaron Rodgers.

Guessing DEN wants AR to have WRs that he knows so that they can lessen the learning curve in 2021, and be instantly more competitive with their division rivals KC, SD and LV.

I don't know. If you listen to certain posters on here, Denver is STACKED and LOADED. So stacked and loaded they went 5-11 last year. And that loaded defense, where giving up multiple starters won't hurt them, gave up an average of 28 points a game.

All a matter of seeing what you want to see I guess.

I agree in that any GM willing to acquire #12 is doing it with the plan of winning it all in a short window (2-3 years). Those GMs would likely rather deal in lottery tickets (draft picks) than in front-line players.

...and if BG would be happy taking players who AREN'T proven NFL talent in return for ARod, he'll be out the door before ARod retires.

Which might be why the inexperienced Drew Lock had competition added in Bridgewater, and why Denver 'might' be actively wanting Rodger's.

Keep in mind the Broncos added a rookie Jeudy and Fant to an offense as well. These guys should be exponentially better with a year experience under their belt.

Would prefer to see Packers man-up, own their behavior, change course and work with Rodgers. The alternative is to risk losing Adams, Lazard, MVS and Tonyan...all are in final years and will be unrestricted free agents in 2022. Rodgers protects receivers by not throwig them into dangerous hits - he does this by reading coverage petter than any less experienced QBs...nothing against Love in particular...but if I'm a receiver with a choice as to where to play, i am goiing to choose wisely - like Adams alluded. Risk/reward in the NFL is a business decision for the players. Then there is resigning one of the best conrebacks in the leage vs allowing him to play out ihis 5th year option in 2022 which is no help to the 2022 cap and whose absence will be felt in 2023. There is a domano effect Packers risk in losing leverage with core players...Working with Rodgers solves these potential issues...thoes fans who want to see Rodgers go need to consider the larger picture.

Contracts are invented for a reason.
Agree, and well stated. Packers should not blink. It is prudent however, to make some face-saving moves. That is wisdom gained throughout history and cultures; any reconciliation means make some concessions, even if one is in the right, even if its optics and symbolic. It is how you avoid wasting resources and opportunity on "principles" and being "right". Make some face saving concessions, but other than that, stick to the contracts. Contracts are invented for a reason.

I remember one very informed man said - you count against salary cap what you pay. So, if Aaron Rodgers retire at half the season, Packers can restore all guaranteed money that is not payed and keep Aaron Rodgers rights till he die. That is what I learned from Salary cap experts, reading different links about situation, and Aaron Rodgers has to pay back Packers the rest of the guaranteed money. It is very good position for the Packers.

Nothing prevents that. To get around AR's inability to put himself on IR, the answer is to report week 10 or so and be active for the last 7 games. That does mean he has to report for TC.

Martellus Bennett kind of put himself on the IR, didn't he? That was very confusing as first he said GB wanted him to play even though he was injured and then when he was released he played for another team. Oh well, my memory is not good. Strictly speaking, I agree that a player can't put himself on the IR.

I think AR not only wants a better contract, but he wants another Ring. Where can he play that would get that next ring? IMO, its GB. We are close to getting to the big show, now, and if AR went to another team, it could be years before he gets even close to that next ring. The Gute/AR issues are real but are just media fluff, as far as I'm concerned. I believe AR is truly pissed at Gute, but those issues could be solved, or eased, with Gute bending a bit, in ARs direction. Keep AR in the loop on team personnel decisions, give him a new contract, and let's look towards a Super Bowl run, in GB, this season. GO PACK, GO!!!

I say hogwash, why you might ask? I'll tell you...the team has talent on offense and defense. They might win or lose all their games by less than a TD...but they will be competitive.

Just keep this in mind. If neither side blinks that means this situation just goes on and on and on, and very possibly gets worse if it splits the locker room and puts MLF in a very difficult situation. From the beginning I've said either trade Rodgers or make a deal with him. However, the FO as usual has no sense of urgency either to win this season or to keep their HC out of a difficult situation or to put an end to a distraction for the team.

I'm reaching the point where my preferred scenario will be to fire the Murphy triumvirate, bring in FO management who can make sound football decisions and let them trade Rodgers for picks and players. That way we remove any future issues from Rodgers and we get a front a office who can get things done and who are not complacent to sit around and allow negative issues fester while they do nothing and also make the moves necessary to improve position groups like ILB and the DL which have been allowed to languish in mediocrity season after season.

This idea of blinking or not blinking is just old fashioned, unnecessary bad management, that no longer succeeds in the real business world in the current era.
Another cardinal sin of management is to let a situation get personal. All that does it prevent anything from happening while all your competitors move on.
Resolve it and move on or find people who can and will resolve it. Lombardi would never have let this go on and as Mike Holmgren has said he would never have let it get this far. Forget that they were both great HCs, more importantly they both understood that resolving a problem the best way possible is always better than doing nothing.

Rodgers and his agent are not helping either. There is still time before TC but Rodgers agent should be advising Rodgers to show up for TC, get ready to play and they will continue to negotiate with the team throughout 2021. Yes, Rodgers loses his leverage for now but he regains leverage by playing and having another MVP like season. We'll never know what's going on with Rodgers' side of this but at least his agent should be proactively seeking a resolution.

Like I said above,I would have no problem trading Rodgers and chucking the Murphy triumvirate at this point. At least that would give MLF and the team a chance to start the Love era with a clean slate on the field and at the front office level. Chuck all the choochs and move on. Thanks, Since '61

Jannes, They are protecting the cloister. When Murphy finally let TT go it was time for Murphy to bring in a GM from the outside with fresh thinking like Bob Harlan did with Ron Wolf. It was also time to move on from Ball.

However, outsiders would be potential challengers to Murphy rather than yes men. This would be bad for the cloister, no accountability environment in Green Bay.

To appease everyone Murphy created a structure where everyone reports to him. So we have a situation where everyone is in charge which means no one is in charge. This means no accountability for results since no one makes any decisions and the beat goes on and on and on.

MLF is an outsider so he is there to take the fall if/when things go south on the field. MLF and the fans become the losers in this scenario. MLF had to accept Pettine as his DC, fail. Both MLF’s first choices for DC and STs turned down the Packers. Why? They came for interviews. Did they learn something during their interviewing that scared them off from the Packers? Did the FO deliberately lower their salary offer? Did their interviews confirm concerns they were already aware of about the Packer FO? We’ll probably never know.

Coaching positions with the Packers are considered premier opportunities in the NFL. Is that no longer the case? I don’t have the answers but where there’s smoke ….

greengold, I agree we'll see. I'm looking for the best outcome for the Packers and hopefully we can still achieve that. But if this goes south, which means to me, we lose Rodgers to retirement with no return and neither QB proves to be any good then the FO needs to be held accountable.

Murphy did bring in MLF which is working out well so far. But we don't know how much support he has received in terms of hiring his initial coaching choices. Then who is most likely to be held accountable if Love isn't the answer and/or Barry's defense turns out to be a sieve? The response will probably be MLF hired Barry, or MLF couldn't get Love ready to play.

I probably spent too many years working with clients to consider every possible scenario, both positive and negative, as well developing exit strategies because even the best plans can go wrong. But in those situations I had a solid understanding of what my client was trying to achieve.

I'm not sure what outcome the Packers want from this situation. Do they want to win the SB in 2021? That should be the first question. If yes, what is the best way to achieve that? If they don't want to win in 2021 then what do they want to happen? Do they want Rodgers to come back and play? Do they want to trade him for picks and players? Do they want him to retire? Do they care either way? Will this situation reoccur with Davante Adams and Jaire Alexander or will we lose them to FA with no return?

What does Rodgers want? As best I can tell he wants to secure his future with the Packers. If he really wants to be traded the Packers should have accommodated him by now. In fact it should have been done before the draft when they had the best chance to acquire more picks.

I think the Packers are expecting Rodgers to come back and play. But let's face it, this wouldn't be the first time that Rodgers calls an audible. Then it becomes a matter of who wants to win the SB in 2021 more, Rodgers or the Packers? My concern is that the FO is fine if they don't. Whereas if Rodgers comes back it's all on him, again.

What do I think? I think Rodgers should retire. He doesn't need money and since he is soon to be married why should he risk his health any longer and cause that to impact his future family. Even if he is traded there is no certainty that his new team would provide him with any guarantees for his future either. So what's the point? He is a bright guy but I am surprised that he hasn't realized that neither the Packers nor the league believe that they owe him anything, which in the harshest terms they don't. In the end, to both the team and the league he is just another player who delivers ratings and revenues. When he's gone there will be someone else, like Mahomes or Watsun. Reminds of "Requiem for a Heavyweight." Thanks, Since '61

I don't know if you're looking at this from outside the "fan" perspective.

All of your messaging appears to include this notion that AR wants to secure his future with the Packers. Where do you get that?

I think this is a lot more simple than people are making it out to be. Listening to both David Bakhtiari and to Davante Adams, I got the sense Rodgers just doesn't want to return to play in GB. He has already turned down offers for more money to play here.

I also wonder how you can say the Packers Front Office doesn't care about winning the Super Bowl...??? I don't get that and I never will. That makes zero sense when looking all they have done to build this team around Rodgers as best they could.

This kind of came out of nowhere, didn't it? I mean, we can reasonably point to cause, but his wanting out of GB entirely?

You point to coaching and say they were severely outcoached in both NFCC games, both TB games. I'm left to wonder, a HC who is 26-6 all of a sudden doesn't know how to coach or gameplan, for his biggest games??? Could it be possible that the QB who was making the calls at the line became non-compliant? That the plan essentially went out the window in a series of tunnel vision pass attempts to Davante Adams? Seeing nothing else? That's what it looked like to me.

Add in Mike Pettine, who I don't think saw eye to eye with LaFleur. We all saw that failure manifest itself in front of our eyes on too many occasions.

As an owner of a company, look what happens to your team when one or two of your main players goes rogue, against your wishes. If the company objective fails, is it the instruction and planning that has failed, all the resources you put into achieving your goals, or is it this one or two rogue actors who lost control of your apple cart?

I wonder if that isn't more in line with what we've witnessed in both NFCC game crashes.

Seems this Front Office is trying to figure this out as best they can, trying to bring him back if at all possible, but I believe that is looking highly unlikely. Maybe they are working under a different timetable than us fans would prefer...

You're right to look to every possible scenario. Maybe consider for a second Murphy isn't Darth Vader. Maybe he was being what he thought was forthright in saying Pettine had to stay on, given he was hired the year before in McCarthy's lame duck season. Maybe he simply made a mistake there. I think he did, and my guess is you do to, but, he probably does as well. No one is perfect.

Maybe this whole thing is as simple as AR wants to start a family elsewhere, without having to play in GB, and he's not going to budge. I can see that as the most probable scenario in play. Maybe the FO is just taking more time than others might to accept that as fact, or to determine if that is in fact 100% the case before trading him. These are big decisions. I can cut them some slack with that.

Better yet, maybe an offer was made and the Packers counter offered, and both teams are in a holding pattern trying to figure it out.

I think people are being vilified for no reason, or without proper knowledge of the facts. That goes for Aaron Rodgers, Mark Murphy, Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur.

None of us knows, and yeah, it is frustrating as hell, as fans. It is all pretty upsetting having so many unknowns swirling about, while we are so close to being legit contenders. Like yourself, I'm just hoping for the best.

Yes, much of what I post is outside the "fan" perspective. If we agree that MLF did not forget how to gameplan then why do we consider that Rodgers went rogue? If we won 28 games over the last 2 seasons with Rodgers at QB why did he suddenly go rogue in the NFCCG? Are we saying that he didn't go rogue in the games we won but that he did go rogue in the games we lost? That doesn't make sense either.

Fact is that we know Rodgers changes plays at the LOS during most games. We also know that many of the plays are run/pass options, so yes plays are changed based on the personnel and the how Rodgers reads the defense pre and post-snap. IMO if you have a QB like Aaron Rodgers the QB should be calling the plays anyway. The QB on the field has a better feel for the game and the situation than any coach on the sideline. Many of the great QBs in the past called all of their own plays as you know. If QBs called their own plays we would not hear the convenient excuse that there was miscommunication or poor communications when the team loses the game.

I got the point that Rodgers wants to secure his future with the Packers from Rodgers himself who has stated on numerous occasions that he wants to finish his career with the Packers. It's not about money because he has already been offered moe money but he has turned it down. He is looking for guarantees that he will remain the Packers starter. I think, but I don't know that he is looking for longer guarantee than the Packers are willing to commit to. He is probably looking for a 5 year guarantee or more. To me this is unreasonable. If I'm the Packers I wouldn't commit to more than 2-3 years at most with an option to go year by year after that.

Rodgers wants control of his exit from Green Bay rather than having it look like he has been pushed out. The Packers want to get their new toy on the field ASAP so that they can justify spending a 1st and 4th round pick to select Love. Having said that I can't rule out the possibility that Rodgers wants out of Green Bay but if he does he should have been traded before the draft to SF for the #3 pick in the draft plus others since that move would have been the Packers best move in terms of making a trade. Even Murphy has admitted that he doesn't think Rodgers really wants out of Green Bay and therefore the Packers won't trade him.

It's also possible that a trade is in the works but the Packers have categorically denied that they are trading Rodgers. So what's left? Rodgers either returns and plays under his current contract or he retires. Neither of those is a win for the Packers. I don't want any player who feels he has been forced to play and I don't think that Rodgers will accept that. So if he retires or holds out the Packers lose Rodgers on the field and get nothing in return for at least the 2021 season and possibly nothing in 2022 if Rodgers retires. That's a lose/lose for the Packers and that's what I'm concerned about, as a fan and from an outside perspective.

I agree that the Packers want to win in 2021 but do they feel the need to win the SB in 2021? Wanting and needing are 2 very different motivators. One is "that would be nice", the other is, "we win the SB or we're fired." That creates a sense of urgency which I don't see from the Packers FO, not just in this situation with Rodgers but quite frankly since we won the SB in 2010.

As for running a company with rogue players, the only way that happens is if management is not paying attention to what their people are doing and if they are not partnered with their customers. I ran 2 companies on my own in the early 80s and then partnered up with and co-owned a consulting company for 33 years before retiring. As more and more of our business moved overseas there were times when we had people working on projects in as many as 20 different countries at the same time. Most of our consultants were highly paid independent people and none of them ever went rogue on us because we spoke with them and/or our clients every day. We treated both our consultants and customers as partners in our business. And of course we had actual partners who provided areas of expertise which we did not have and we subcontracted parts of projects to them.

The role of my business partner and myself was to pay attention to all phases of the business. And I can assure you that in the Mergers and Acquisitions business there are hundreds if not thousands of moving parts in every deal and at least hundreds of millions of dollars and often billions in the bigger deals. No one wants to blow up up those deals. There is no coming back from failure in those situations. It's a career end for an individual consultant and it's the end of the firm if they don't prevent it. It helped that we were a relatively small organization (80 - 100 people including contracted consultants) and that we remained focused on what we did well.

"Success demands a singleness of purpose." Vince Lombardi, framed and posted on my office wall for my entire career. So yes, from a non-fan perspective I hold the FO to a very high standard. Lombardi did not want to win every game, he needed to win every game and it showed in the results. He was committed, he drove his team with a sense of urgency and he succeeded. That is and remains the difference between Lombardi and everyone else. It's why his name is on the trophy for excellence achieved in an NFL season.

We can still see a positive outcome for the Packers but I would prefer if they were acting as drivers rather than as passengers which is what it seems like. Maybe that's not fair but as you say much has not been fair to either side since we don't have all the facts in this situation.
Focus, pay attention, communicate, treat everyone as though they are important, and always take responsibility and accountability and hold people to the same standard as well. Never assume, rather make certain everyone is rowing in the same direction. I've always liked IBMs motto, "Think". Simple, direct and everyone can remember it. Be well gg. Thanks, Since '61

Hey Since'61,

I appreciate your laying this all out the way you did.

"I got the point that Rodgers wants to secure his future with the Packers from Rodgers himself who has stated on numerous occasions that he wants to finish his career with the Packers."

This is the point I am trying to emphasize: THAT IS OLD NEWS. I don't think he's made any of those statements, nothing close to them, since meeting his future wife. Life changes.

Take that out of the equation, this notion that he wants to be in GB to finish his career, and it changes a lot, right? That's all I have been getting at, and never quite knew how to say it. I mean, vilifying Gutekunst & Murphy doesn't wash in that scenario where they literally have zero options in bringing him back to Green Bay. It appears his return is firmly off the table, by AR's choosing.

I'm right with you in wanting a trade to happen with Denver, and I still think it is going to happen. I do think they are wanting Davante Adams included in the deal, and that might be the reason for the delay. Maybe they are simply waiting until these minicamps are over before closing on a trade.

It's all guesswork.

THINK. Man, so glad you chose that. I knew Paul Rand, the gentleman and giant of branding who designed the IBM logo - amongst a host of others still used today. Brought back some fond memories of doing tequila shots together in the desert many years ago...!!! Paul was a giant in the branding industry.

gg, really cool that you knew Paul Rand. I never had the opportunity to meet him but I have read 2 of his books, "Design, Form and Chaos" and "The Art of Design." Not any type of artist myself but they were helpful to me whenever I found myself in a branding or rebranding conversation with my clients over the years. He was brilliant.
I appreciate your sharing that. Thanks, Since '61

Ha! I have both of those books, and Paul signed them for me. I am ALL ARTIST. That's how we met, through a mutual friend who was one of my professors. Damn, we had fun back in the day. He and his wife were wonderful people. You're right. He was brilliant.

I paint commissioned works now in my private downtown studio in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward, after having been in branding/design for a number of years. Second career for me. Or, third... My clients are from all around the country. My work has been sold in reproduction format all around the US for the last 15 years or so. I pretty much jump in here while I let layers dry...

Needless to say, I look at things a little differently than some others.

The money keeps rolling in and the beat goes on with or without Rodgers and with or without SB victories.
Nice to know that you're still in "Titletown" even with only 2 SBs over the last 53 seasons after winning 11 in the previous 38 seasons.

But when your office looks out over the Titletown you built it's easy to fool yourself into believing a "Big Lie" and protecting your cloister. Thanks, since '61

Finally, someone with a realistic take on the situation. I keep reading that the Packer management needs to "hold firm'" or "stay the course" or "not blink" or "stand tough." All which I think mean the same as "do nothing" or "twiddle your thumbs" or "stand around with your thumbs up your butt." Doing nothing got you to this point. It's time for Murphy to resolve the situation.

I like your solution of getting rid of the Three Stooges, Moe Murphy, Larry Gutey, and Curly Ball and get some real executives with NFL experience that involves more than kowtowing to Ted Thompson.

I think our triumvirate has experience. The issue is how they apply their experience. They seem focused on evaluating and drafting players. Then they draft the players they believe are the best remaining on their board. So far so good.

However, they either get lost or don’t care about the relationship with the player. There are 3 phases in a successful relationship. Initiation, which is the scouting and drafting part of the NFL team/player relationship. Then there is the development phase which is getting to know the player and that should be as a player and person. Then there is the maintaining the relationship phase which should include supporting, paying attention and on going communication between the team and the player.

I think the Packers are pretty good at the initiation phase and then the relationships level off after the first phase. With a player like Rodgers, who been with the team 16 seasons there should be solid communication and trust between the team and him after all this time. The team should know what is going to create issues with him. They have admitted that their communication should have been better. Gute and Murphy have been there as long as Rodgers they should have the strongest relationship with him by now. It’s part of what they are paid to do whether they think it’s important or not.

Since,
With the Packers holding all the chips why should they move now to resolve all this mess?

I mean first of all shouldn't they truly evaluate and see what they might have in Jordan Love first? Each and every practice they are learning more and more what they have in Love, as well as Bortles. I mean to me this is more than critical...it is imperative! Once they have a very good sense of the talent there it is a reference point and will bode them well in whatever they decide to do. To do otherwise, would be more than stupid!

Secondly, sometimes in negotiations one has to sit tight to force the other party to negotiate reasonably. If Denver is all in on trading for Rodger's each and every week that gets closer to camp is to the Packers advantage, particularly if the Packers have already decided they do not want Rodger's in a green and gold jersey anymore.

Knock, I agree that the Packers should take every opportunity they can to evaluate what they have in Love and Bortles. I would argue that they should be doing that even if Rodgers was with the team and even if none of this ever happened. That would make sense in case Rodgers was injured during the season.

In terms of the Packers holding all of the chips the question is (at least for me) what outcome are the Packers looking for since they hold all the chips? The first and really only outcome they should be considering is, how do we win the SB in 2021? This is based on the assumption that they want to win the SB in 2021. If that's their goal what is their best approach to achieve that outcome? I would argue that reaching an agreement with Rodgers is their best approach to achieve that goal in 2021.

However there is another assumption to consider. That assumption is that the Packers triumvirate does not need to win the SB in 2021!!! There is a significant difference in wanting to win and the urgency that you need to win. The Murphy triumvirate apparently does not feel that they need to win the SB in 2021. In that case it doesn't matter if Rodgers returns or not. In fact it builds in an excuse for failure at least in 2021 and 2022 because they can blame it all on Rodgers now if he does not come back. And if Love flops over the next 2-3 seasons they have MLF as their scapegoat and probably gain a few more seasons to keep their cloister together.

So yes, the Packers hold all the chips but what are they trying to achieve with all of their chips. Are they going to force Rodgers to return because otherwise he will lose a large sum of money. That might work, but is that how you want to have your QB back in the fold. $30 million dollars is a lot of money for anyone, even Rodgers, unless you're Warren Buffet, or Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos or someone like that. However, Rodgers does not need the money, his current net worth is. over $120 million and growing even without playing for the Packers.

So what happens if Rodgers does not return. Do the Packers trade him? Probably but the closer to the season we get the less likely that becomes because teams will be reluctant to start with a new QB and little time left to learn their offense. More likely a trade would take place in 2022.

Next question is what happens if Rodgers retires? Packers lose Rodgers and get nothing in return. Is that an acceptable outcome for the Packers or their fans? I don't think so.

One final assumption is that the Packers don't care what happens with Rodgers since they don't owe him anything regardless. He's just a player who played well and now he's gone. There will be another QB and another HC, etc... And included in that assumption is that they don't care about the fans either. The stadium is sold out forever, the league revenue sharing is coming in and the beat goes on.

So to answer your question why should the Packers move to resolve this now is it depends on what outcome they are looking for? If the 2021 SB does not matter then they should hold on to their chips and do nothing. If that is how it plays out it will tells us plenty about the sense of urgency to win in the GB front office. Thanks, Since '61

This whole "Packers triumvirate" not wanting to in the Super Bowl is a very dark place, and I cannot adhere to that being a possibility. With the livelihood of all these players, coaches and staff people on board???

No.

This is a simple wrench thrown into their plans to win it all. The Packers FO bent over backwards prior to Aaron turning them down, in their attempts to field the best team they possibly could. They didn't foresee their starting QB whom they front loaded guaranteed money to all of a sudden wanting to jump ship halfway through his contract, for reasons no one could have seen coming.

Adjust. Carry on. Carry the G.

Agree on adjusting and carrying on. To do that they need to trade AR. Maybe they're working on it. If they're expecting AR to return they can still work on winning the SB in 2021. If they trade Rodgers they are not working towards winning an SB in 2021 but further down the road.

I don't doubt that they want to win in 2021 but I do doubt that they need to win in 2021. The difference is their sense of urgency. As I posted above, losing Rodgers via trade, holdout or retirement gives them a built in excuse for not reaching the SB again in 2021 at least. Another season of no accountability. Thanks, Since '61

I find it interesting that this “triumvirate” is so horrible that they are one of how many teams in the last15-20 years that have the best record in the NFL. Tom Bradley didn’t have a whole lot of #1 receivers other than a bunch who he made into good receivers. He made do with what he had to work with. AR didn’t seem to do that as well.

'61, We have gotten 16 years out of Rodgers. If RODGERS decides he will not play for the Packers, it will be his choice. We get nothing for Rodgers if he retires? 30 plus million dollars a year back on on cap that the Pack will use to continue to strive for that Super Bowl is what the Pack gets. They also hold his rights for three more years. The millions of dollars that Rodgers chose not to honor on the contract that he agreed to is what we get. Rodgers will be held accountable if he selfishly continues his tantrum, not the Front office.

We’re going to blame Rodgers for retiring???!!! I hope not. If that happens the Packers should just keep their money and move on. The cap space will help the roster but guarantees nothing. Losing Rodgers means losing the biggest reason for an FA to choose to play for the Packers.

It will be a few seasons at least before Love becomes a QB who can draw FAs to Green Bay. Thanks, Since ‘61

`61, No blame, it will be Rodger's choice. As for drawing FA to Green Bay????? Come on, the big three Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith, and Billy Turner, were all paid a premium to play for the Pack. None of the big three gave a discount double check. Adrian Amos and Mercedes Lewis may have been attracted to the Pack, both were paid and both earned their contracted pay. Funchess we will soon see. Bortles came here with a discount double check to help "replace" Rodgers. MOST of the Packer's roster players were drafted and developed, or players who were not highly regarded FA who worked their way to becoming legit NFL players. The Packers have no cap space to get premium FAs now since 1/5 of the Packers total cap is tied up just with Rodgers. Did Rodgers draw anyone in recent memory to the Pack? No discount double checks I can recall.

The Smiths both saw an opportunity to be part of an Sb winning team because of Rodgers. Yes, money is always a factor but it is not the only factor.

For the same money would a player choose to sign with NY Jets or with Rodgers and the Packers? The Packers are legit SB contenders with Rodgers. The Jets have been nowhere and are hoping they have drafted their franchise QB. Not every player considers that but most do.

Reggie White admitted that one of the reasons he signed with the Packers back in '93 was because he had played against Favre in '92 and he stated after the game that Favre is the type of QB who a team can win a Super Bowl with. Other FAs followed because of Favre and later because of Rodgers. Same reason why many FAs went to NE, because of Brady.

would want FAs to come to Green Bay who didn't believe they could be part of an SB team? I hope not. but money should not be the only draw. If it is we will never have enough of it. BTW, signing FAs guarantees nothing, especially if we don't have a good QB. Right now all we have are hopes, wishes and prayers that Love will evolve into a good QB.

Different sport, but an NY Yankee fan I can assure you that since George Steinbrenner bought the Yanks in 1973 no team in any sport as spent as much money on FAs as the Yankees. And with all that the Yankees have 7 World Series championships since 1973. Now, they did win 4 WS in 5 years in the late 90s and they were great during the Bronx Zoo years (76 - 79). But in the end all that money spent of FAs didn't get us over the hump in most seasons. Thanks, Since '61

I find it interesting that suddenly all of AR’s tweets and etc., have gone silent and we are hearing from some of his “closer” friends that things aren’t quite as severe as we’ve heard in the past.

What is there for the Packers to resolve with Rodgers? In other words, Rodgers doesn't seem to have a solid case for his selfish behavior. He made a mess of thing for no good reason. Is this the kind of guy who is going to lead us to a Super Bowl victory?
I'm not sure the Bucs did all that much for Brady. They signed his old buddy Gronk out of retirement, which is a unique situation. If they signed Bryant because of Brady, that's a highly questionable move that I definitely would not want the Packers to make. If they signed Fournette because of him, is that really a big deal in helping the team?
By the way, what is Brady's salary this season compared to Rodgers' haul of some $37 million?
What is Rodgers willing to do to make the Packers better? What sacrifice is he willing to make. What stupid principle is he standing up for these days as he hosts Jeopardy and luxuriates in Hawaii?

Maybe, just maybe, there's a way to make this work -- but it doesn't involve the Packers giving in to Rodgers being a diva; and it does require some humility on the part of Rodgers in admitting he put himself ahead of the team.
We all make mistakes. If Rodgers said something that seemed sincerely apologetic about getting carried away with himself, then I think fans and teammates would forgive him. We've been big supporters of the guy for a long time and really want him back -- but not the way things are now.
Rodgers needs to regain the confidence of his teammates in order to lead them to a Super Bowl. Don't underestimate fan support, either. Whether or not we are really behind Rodgers makes a big difference in terms of the Pack reaching the absolute top this season. We matter!
***
Unless there is this kind of big turnaround in Rodgers, I'd trade him yesterday. One guy like Bradley Chubb and one first-round pick would be enough for me to get his melodrama moved to another location as far away as possible. If we can get more, great.
Again, I'm a big fan of Rodgers -- but what he needs from true friends and fans is not coddling but a kick in the bottom. He needs criticism that is caring but also truly honest. He needs a huge attitude adjustment, indeed a real reset.
With Rodgers making about one-fifth of the entire salary for the Packers, he picked a bad time to become a malcontent among his teammates.
With widespread suffering because of COVID and all of the ensuing restrictions, he picked a bad time to get sympathy from fans who have been isolated and desolated for more than year.
Rodgers may have one last chance to swallow his ego and show some compassion for the state of Wisconsin and the wider world of Packerdom. Step up and share in the common sacrifice during tough times; be a leader of hope for the people.
Don't delay. Call the front office today and ask for a day or two to reflect and reconsider; make a decision about whether to go all in for the Packers by Thursday.

When I think of Rodgers - I don't think of contrition. That would be a hail mary thrown from the offence's 1 yard line. Better chance of calling Elway and insisting on another 1st round draft pick.

"Which is why the Packers should go out and add one or two guys. "

I don't think this will make any difference. I expect Rodgers wants some say in the roster. But I think he also wants a deal that let's him finish his career on his terms. Which means he has inputs into GBs FAs and Draft picks and his contract allows him to play as long as he wants as a highly paid player. If adding a couple guys, or a couple years of guaranteed money to his deal was all it took we NEVER would have heard about this. The only possible explanation is that Rodgers wants a level of control that Gute and Murphy are not willing to give him.

I'm glad to know per Rob Demovsky, that all of the WRs showed up and are practicing.

It is good to see Davante there, but, apparently he is not participating in team reps. He's working off to the side. --- Now, THAT kind of goes with what I had been suspecting. Why would Davante not be working with the rest of the team?
>>>>>> Look below at what happened to ESB to find out...

MVS, Lazard & ESB are working in the 11 on 11s. That last bit provided by Ryan Wood.

Wood also said in dime they are dropping Amos into the star, with Savage and Redmond as the deep Safeties.

Bill Huber saying Love is getting a lot of reps. 16 straight, followed by 2 for Bortles, then Love back in for more.

Wes Hod saying Jaire is doing Jaire stuff. Good to know. Also remarked on Jordan Love connecting with MVS on a slant. Ento with good coverage on Lazard. ESB walked off the field with trainers after a play. Unsure cause.

Ryan Wood mentions Love just overthrew both Tonyan and Taylor on a couple deep balls. Said Burks collided with ESB, knocking him out of action. Damn. Bortles hits Nauta for a deep TD in 2 min drill. Nauta got behind Ento on the play.

Matt Schneidman saying Love has struggled with his accuracy today, missing a handful of makable throws.

Ryan Wood said ESB back on field taking team reps... GOOD!!!

WesHod saying EQ back doing walk throughs and he's fine.

Thanks for the camp updates gg - saved me the time. Thinking that Love has to re-calibrate - throwing to the 1s' - after a week of throwing to the practice squad and udfas.

Yeah. He's not had a chance to get to know any of them from a reps perspective.

I'm wondering if CheeseheadTV has anyone at practices this week to give a personal take on who looks good.
It would be a nice diversion from the Rodgers melodrama.

greengold, your takes on the Denver situation seem highly plausible. Just wanted you to know at least one of us is paying attention to your theory, and appreciates it.
I'd take Bradley Chubb and a first-round pick for Rodgers: and if Davante wants to go along, Denver could add Jerry Jeudy.
I'd be glad for the Packers to get more, but even more glad to get the Rodgers melodrama moved to a different conference in a different time zone.
***
I hope we're patient with Love. Let him miss on some of his passes. As long as the Packers think there's something there there with Love, give him plenty of time and patience. Air it out Jordan, long and short throws, and don't be afraid to misfire.
I would be good with Bortles starting the season. Just let Love develop without undue pressure. It's a tough spot for him, and I want him to have every opportunity to succeed

As some of us may have experienced in a primary relationship - when a partner "emotionally departs" - it is only a question of time before a moving van shows up at the front door.

It is clear that the GBP is no longer the apple of his (Rodgers) eye. He has found another - Ms. Woodley, Hollywood, Mailibu ... Nor should Ms. Woodley be vilified in any way - as it's Rodgers hitching to her star - not vice versa.

What is most telling to me is Murphy's statement - "We are working to resolve the situation.." This infers a diplomatic solution - which there can be none when one side is inflexible and entrenched. I'm certain that Murphy realizes that the Rodgers-GBP relationship has come to an end. He's just in PR mode - while preparing for the inevitable.

Rodgers is said to be a stubborn individual. If so, the words of E.W. Howe may be relevant - "A man will do more for his stubbornness than for his religion or his country".

All that remains now are the practical issues.

Long live Love!

Truly poetic and well stated. Hard to build a lasting relationship on the shifting sands of Aaron Rodgers. His commitment to the team and maybe even the game is questionable. Given his behaviour, I wouldn't look to invest heavily into a stable and fruitful future together.

Alberta,
Funny you should bring up Murphy's recent statement as I too have been thinking about what he has said. There is so much that could be implied in "We are working to resolve the situation".

Very well could be they are working to resolve the situation by working out the fine details in a trade with a trading partner.

I viewed his statement as open-ended - which could very well mean a potential trade, as you commented. Alternatively, it could also mean a re-working of Rodgers contract, which will probably put the Packers in a more stressful salary cap position for the next couple of years. Given all that has happened to date - I vote for trade.

"Very well could be they are working to resolve the situation by working out the fine details in a trade with a trading partner."

It will be the worst-kept secret in sports...everyone is watching, every reporter/insider will want to be the one to break it. Too many individuals will need to be involved to make it go. As soon as any whisper of those talks come around, someone will throw it in the public eye.

Let him sit out the season. The Pack will be 30 odd million richer ad we still own his rights for 2-3 more years, And trade is a$$ next year and make sure whoever gets him takes his contract. Like the football player, cannot stand the person

I just don’t see how you can have this guy in the locker room with where this appears to be heading. They should let him sit out the season if that’s his choice and ship him out after the season. They are still gonna secure picks in next year’s draft by trading him. There will be interest next year too.

The team probably takes a major step back and they can only hope Love shows something to get excited about moving forward.

They were planning to go with Love next season anyway and everything I have read indicated that was the plan.

Is every fan about losing every game since he’ doesn’t agree with management . Are we in the twilight zone now since Green Bay has been unreal for 30 years and think we’re smarter then every franchise. I get he’s drama but favre was too and love won’t be the next hall of famer in Green Bay. We’ve been spoiled so bad to think it’s okay to say we’re good now. I’m a packer for life but when does common sense sink in to know we won’t have another hall of fame qb. Even his own teammates support him and when I say teammates I mean the ones that have been there from day one. Just saying we’re not better without Rodgers if we want a ring again.

Question for the cap gurus .... If Rodgers holds out and repays his $11 million (?) signing bonus .... Can that money be rolled over and added to next years' cap?

Yes. The $6.8M roster bonus as well. The timing gets dicier if AR does not voluntarily repay the money and the Packers have to seek a forfeiture award from the system administrator. Such an award could come in time for cap relief in 2022, but it doesn't happen enough for me to have a good sense of how long such an award takes to process. Also the timing is affected by whether AR puts in formal retirement papers (and when) versus not showing up: in the latter case, GB might have to wait until the end of the season to file so they know how much to file for.

Cannot wait till the packer nation realizes how bad this team is without a qb. Love could be good in a couple years but this team won’t make the play offs even in this horrible division. Football is a team sport but I’m sorry to say that Rodgers has been the one element the last 10 years to cover up all the holes the packers have. Doubt he’s traded since the gm and president have just as big of an ego as him. He’s gonna sit and can afford it just to prove a point. Still will be a packer fan no matter but tough times are ahead and anyone can see that. Welcome to the Cowboys era in Green Bay!

Rodgers is gone. I would respectfully suggest that he has already decided on his options and is prepared to retire if necessary. I just don’t think that he has any hope, let alone expectation, that the Packers will or even can build a team of sufficient quality to make it to a Super Bowl. I don’t think he has the fire in his belly to carry the Packers to another NFCCG (if they could get that far) just to see it blown up by a superior team. He has clearly lost any respect for the FO. That said, it’s been an exciting 27 years with Favre and Rodgers - lots of good memories. Time for Packer fans to shift their focus to making the playoffs.

There are things I will never understand.
Julio Jones says he's out of Atlanta and everyone in Atlanta is thanking him for what he's done.
AR says he will not return to GB and is an infamous traitor etc ...
Yet even Julio has a contract that he should respect .....
How strange the world is
Despite a legendary Q we are talking about his performance in the NFCC as if taking an average of 35 points was his fault.
Above all I wonder where the problem is with him. If, as many say, it's not worth keeping him because we have JL, then why don't we trade him? (or haven't we already traded it?)
Could it not be that the CEO but above all our super GM is afraid of making a shit figure worldwide?
I'll never understand

Crankbait, Brian Gutekunst is one of the most highly regarded GM's in the business, by his contemporaries.

All this venom being thrown his way seems misguided, and is most likely ill informed. There is so much we don't know about the entire Aaron Rodgers ordeal.

The Packers chose a QB who arguably had the best arm in his draft class, and he fell because of his 2019 tape where he was without starters on his OL and at WR, in an all-new system, with a new HC who was not very good. Think for a second what those same circumstances would do to Aaron Rodgers... His falling 20 draft positions because of that 2019 tape could prove serendipitous for the Packers, as the value of his fall equalled roughly 3 R1s. His 2018 tape, with great talent around him, in a system he knew was stellar. He had all you could wish for, and I believe he still does.

Are we missing some key pieces at ILB and DL? Yes, possibly. But, you can't fill all of those with top talents in just 4 drafts with limited cap space to play in FA. There is also a chance those positions are better than we might think.

If AR simply doesn't want to be here in GB, no matter how much money, control, or how loaded we might be with talent in general, what is Gutekunst supposed to do?

Try to get the most you can for him in trade and go forward. I believe they are still working on that.

I'm a Packer Fan first and foremost, above and beyond any one individual. And believe in giving Jordan Love every chance he can to prove himself. He wants to be in Green Bay. He is on the field during mandatory mini camp. He is doing his part for the team. And he will learn, just as other young QB's have. Let's see what kind of leadership abilities he possesses rather than assume the Packers are not going to be a contender without AR. Give the man a chance. He may just surprise everyone. He has a lot of talent surrounding him. I wish Jordan Love all the best and he has this Packer Fan's support 100%. Go! Pack! Go!
