Cory's Corner: More Aaron Rodgers Trade Rumors

Looks like we're hitching a ride aboard the Aaron Rodgers Trade Express once again.

This time it's coming from San Francisco. Yep, the same San Francisco that advanced to the Super Bowl with a quarterback in his first complete season as a starter.

Jimmy Garoppolo had plenty of hiccups last year in a 13-interception regular season which included three picks in three playoff games.

But trading a 29-year-old quarterback that is still green for a 37-year-old quarterback that may have two more years of dominant play left doesn't make a lot of sense.

This isn't over, though. There will be plenty of trade rumors swirling about Rodgers. If there's football this year, the neverending sidebar to the season will be the trade circus.

A wise man told me recently that Rodgers will either have an MVP season or he'll throw a bunch of picks trying to do too much. I don't see the second thing happening because Rodgers' number of risks have fallen off. He led the NFL with 52 throwaways last year. Now, was someone always open? No. However, I would argue that a receiver was available at least a third of the time. Can Rodgers change that with an emphasis on the run game? I believe so.

It amazes me how many people are trying to predict the future about something that may not even happen. I didn't like Green Bay trading up for Jordan Love at 26, but that doesn't mean that it won't stoke Rodgers' motivational fires even more.

The most important thing in the NFL is finding a franchise quarterback. The Packers currently have one and who knows how long it's going to be before they find another one.

Just the press stirring the pot. The packers would be smarter taking offers for Linsley first.

Damn, that link was to an awful article. I guess I have been deaf to a lot of crap being said on sites like that. Spitballing being reported as news. It makes me appreciate this site even more.

Slow news day? Come on now you can do better than that. Pay no heed to click bait Cory, the Packers won’t and can’t trade Rodgers due to the salary cap Ramifications it would cause.

Two seasons from now after Love has learned at the foot of the master....maybe, but even then it is highly doubtful .

As long as #12 is under center for the Packers they have a chance at going to the Super Bowl and anyone who wishes to rush him out of town is full of cheddar.

Enjoy it while it lasts, franchise QB’s are rare and NFL history is littered with first round flops!

Jordan Love is talented, he stands tall and throws a pretty spiral which many times goes for a TD and often ends with an INT!

Rodgers is one of the greats, I am in no hurry to see him go!

That is all...

"As long as #12 is under center for the Packers they have a chance at going to the Super Bowl"

This is the mindset that many argue drove TT and MM out of town.

"Jordan Love is talented, he stands tall and throws a pretty spiral which many times goes for a TD and often ends with an INT!"

At some point, unless he gets a leg ripped off or goes total Brett Hundley in camp (not the good camp Brett Hundley), Love will be the starting QB for the Packers because at some point the combination of financial and talent considerations will make him the better choice. He might be the better player at the time, or what they get back in terms of cap will be more important....or #12 might just retire. In the end, we need to trust that they will prepare him for that job, fit the offense to match his strengths, and be willing to admit if they're wrong and move on quickly if he fails.

"Rodgers is one of the greats, I am in no hurry to see him go!"

True, but I don't want #12 being the one who decides when he's no longer the QB of the Packers (unless it is to retire).

LOL. I've always wondered about the "logic..."

"Hey, here is a really bad article from San Francisco. Let me write a bad article about this bad article. And then I can complain about "neverending sidebars," while I myself am adding to the neverending sidebar.

Um, if it's a dumb idea to write about trading Aaron Rodgers........ *cue Jeopardy music*

“The most important thing in the NFL is finding a franchise quarterback.” Cory...No truer words been spoken. Then why diss the Love pick? It might take multiple tries and then some to find a franchise QB . I don’t see or want Rodgers gone, but that doesn’t mean you don’t seek your future when even in the first round it’s probably around 15% of QB’s drafted become a franchise type QB. That means you cannot wait till the end of Rodgers career to start drafting his replacement. Sure, it would be great if you could get that franchise QB in the draft and throw them into the fire in year one and they succeed. Of course, then you have SC dollars to invest in the team around him for 3years. The odds of that happening is very low and If I was a GM I wouldn’t risk my future on that happening. I’m a long term thinker vs short term, run the risk of ruining your SC and make a run for the title in one year. You need balance between now and the future. Long term thinking isn’t a popular choice with fans as we want it NOW, but it is the right choice for consistent winning.

Also, might some QB’s have succeeded if not thrown into the fire in year one. I think Winston would be better with a couple of years grooming by watching a franchise QB and with a guru QB coach. Mahommes got the opportunity to learn for one year and we will never know if it made a difference, same thing with Rodgers.

The time to get a QB is before you need one.

Two years to evaluate Love. Lots of eyes on him in exhibitions, practices , meeting rooms, occasional mop up duty.

If he’s going to be able to do the job, great. If the Packer brass doesn’t think he can then we still have Rodgers and we try AGAIN to find his replacement.

Personally, I think that Love will be our starter in two seasons. But that’s a long time from now.

Murph...because chickenshits like using the chickenshit downvote. It gives them a chance to be negative while offering no reason or insight. It’s a detriment to a discussion board.

I’m kinda thinking the same, 28-30 teams would salivate over the chance at having Rodgers under center.. Yet it seems the FO doesn’t value him as much.. There will be some dark years if he leaves, and Love flops.. I’d take my chances and ride with Rodgers till the end while building a strong offense.. “ You don’t know what you have until it’s gone”.,

He's not going anywhere. Would be a huge mistake for GB and they know it. There's not any trade GB could make that includes Rodgers that I'd support at this juncture. 3 years out? If Love turns out to be an actual NFL QB? Maybe, certainly not now.

I read the link, and what interested me was when the writer asked if we could imagine Rodgers throwing a lot of short passes, handing off the ball 30 times a game and making the long passes when the game is on the line. Yes, I can imagine that. It's the type of football LaFleur wants to emphasize. Whether Rodgers will dial back his ego and take those short passes, rather than holding onto the ball and waiting for a receiver to get open 30-40 yards downfield is the real question. And until I see it happen, I won't believe it possible.

Ricky, I somewhat disagree. The Offense is designed around run and play action with a lot of movement to disguise plays. There will be many opportunities for Aaron to go long without the game being on the line.

Trading Rodgers this year is an impossible endeavor for GB, unless they have a strong desire to commit season suicide.

Next year is where any talk of trade becomes a more possible reality, and the following season more a reality than a possibility.

Agree.

Do you have any idea whether or not this year will "count" on contracts if the season is not played at all due to CV19?

Look at baseball, the trade the Dodgers made for Betts will go to waste as their contracts are counting this year as a season. Betts will get his $20 mil and not play a game and become a FA. I'd expect the NFL to follow suit, if the season doesn't happen or if it's a limited season.

Giving that players clearly do not want to play this season in the big three sports. (MLB NBA NFL) That and the legal and financial issues could doom not only this season, but the next. I wonder if the players understand how much really is at risk now...

I for one would like to know if the SI author is a 49ers fan. If the case, shame on SI for publishing such a biased piece. Having said that, Jimmy G is a GOAT heading into his enemy sign (OX) next February so there will be lots of negative energy trying to undermine his success, setting the table for such a possible transaction to take place. Assuming various suitors for Rodgers services, SF would have to pay a hefty premium with player / draft capital for Gute to send him to a dominate team in his own conference, for which a GM may as well fall on his own sword. More likely would be playoff-caliber QB needy AFC teams: Raiders, Colts, Chargers, Patriots...even the Dolphins should be there in a year or two.

Again all of Rodgers pro rated deferred Bonus money goes immediately against the cap if he is traded. It is more than he is now making and would immediately put GB in Salary Cap hell. They would have to start cutting players left and right to get back under.

Salary cap and JL's unknowns make a trade impossible for at least two years. Please stop talking about it.

Am I alone in my wish that AR plays as well as all the press written about him next year? A trade is financially Impossible and writers are as bored as we all are working from home, so they are just pushing out turd-like articles to elicit comments from bored fans like me. Mission accomplished!
