Confessions of a Polluted Mindset - Are You Not Entertained?

The Weekly Packers Brain Drain from Jersey Al.

It's been quite a week in the world of the Green Bay Packers. There has been more activity in the past seven days than you sometimes see in a month or two of the offseason. Let's review...

Chris Brooks - Re-signed. 2 years, $4.8M. The Packers value Brooks' skill as a 3rd down pass protector, occasional ball carrier and key special teams contributor. Emmanuel Wilson was allowed to hit free agency, leaving Josh Jacobs as the only RB currently on the roster, that is, if you don't count two players on the reserve/future list (Damien Martinez and Pierre Strong Jr.) and the perpetually injured Marshawn Lloyd. I think the Packers look at Brooks as a Bo Melton type (a team-first guy that will do whatever you ask of him).

Zaire Franklin - An extremely rare player for player trade for the Packers (and uncommon for the NFL in general), Franklin is exchanged for DT Colby Wooden. Franklin comes in as an immediate replacement for Quay Walker. The Packers exchange some athleticism in Walker for experience, availability (missed only one game over the last four years) and production (four straight 100 tackle seasons) in Franklin.  Wooden was asked by the Packers to play different roles in different seasons, but likely doesn't fit into what new DC Jonathan Gannon will look to do (probably more of a 3-4 system). He is in the last year of his rookie deal, and the Packers drafted Warren Brinson and kept UDFA Nazir Stackhouse on the roster last year, so Wooden becomes expendable.

Nick Niemann -  1 year, $2.5M.  Thank Goodness! Niemann led the team in special teams tackles last year despite missing 10 games after being injured in Week 7!  A no-brainer signing.

Sean Rhyan -  3 years, $33M. Similar to what the Packers weren't willing to give John Runyan Jr. (which he got from the Giants), but the Packers were in a bind here. The free agent center options were limited and if the Packers are aiming toward a Super Bowl this season, they couldn't gamble on landing a center in the draft capable of starting right away. Rhyan was pretty steady when moved into the center spot, so this was a case of "the devil you know is better than the one you don't".

Rashan Gary - traded for a 2027 4th round pick. This was the only real surprise for me. Not that the Packers would give up on Gary, but that they were able to get a fourth round pick in 2027 for a player that showed very little once Micah Parsons got injured. I love the sweet irony of Jerry Jones trading Micah Parsons and then his desperate search for a replacement brings him back to the Packers. Thank you Jerry!

Darian Kinnard - 1 year, $3.7M. Every team needs a "break glass in case of emergency" lineman that you can throw into a game and know he won't be a disaster. Kinnard can step in at either tackle or guard and also found a role as the sixth lineman when the Packers went with heavy formations.

Elgton Jenkins - Released, Packers gain $19.5M in cap space. this was the surest of all sure things that were going to happen this week. Nothing against Jenkins, who had some very good years for the Packers at guard, but you won't find one person anywhere that will tell you they should have kept him at that price.

Kristian Welch - I find it rather interesting that the Packers brought Welch back after already signing Nick Niemann. Most pundits are assuming they will battle it out for the Packers sole "special teams specialist" spot on the roster, But what if, just IF, the Packers are entering a new era where they might be willing to keep both of these special team aces? Welch is capable of holding a role as a backup linebacker and the Packers will likely want to keep five at the position (Cooper, Franklin, McDuffie, Hopper and ?). So could it happen? Not likely, but I wouldn't mind it.

BREAKING NEWS... Skyy Moore is a packer? The Packers signed a returner? What the hell is going on out there? (meanwhile, Rich Bisaccia is sitting on his front porch saying, "Now they're going to care about special teams - WTF?"

Bo Melton - ERFA  - Reportedly was tendered and will be back with the Packers. Matt LaFleur's favorite player was a lock to be tendered.

Donovan Jennings - ERFA - Reportedly was tendered and will be back with the Packers. OL depth is a concern, so a warm body was needed.

Nate Hobbs -  The Packers pro scouting dept messed up on this one. They went and signed an often-injured player for big money and then tried to move him to a different position. One where the whole world sees how badly you messed up, which allowed a big play.  Hobbs didn't make a good impression in camp, teeing off on his own teammates even after he was warned to knock it off. Then he spent the entire season in and out of the trainer's room, which personally I didn't mind after seeing some of his attempts to cover receivers in space. Anyway, according to Rob Demovsky, he's designated as a post June 1st release, which nets the Packers $8.8M in salary cap space versus only $838K from a straight out release. That's a win.

Benjamin St-Juste - 2 years $10M. Here it is - your BIG Packers free agent signing!  OK, so you're not excited, but stay with me here. First of all, he's an actual boundary cornerback, not a nickle corner the Packers think can play outside (see Nate Hobbs).  Secondly, CB help of ANY kind is sorely needed and appreciated.  He's no Pro Bowler, and hasn't even been a starter, but he played in a quarters-based scheme with the Chargers and had his most effective year. Finally, he had close to 300 special teams snaps for the Chargers last season. So you don't have to be excited, but yes, this is a solid move.

More Salary Cap Manipulations

Xavier McKinney restructured - gained 9.2M in cap space

Aaron Banks restructured -  projected to free 12M in cap space

Curreent cap space estimated at $24M per Ken Ingalls (see below).  This provides money for doing Kraft and Watson extensions and maybe something else.

Malik Willis - 3 years, 67.5M from the Dolphins

Kingsley Enagbare - 1 years, 10M from the Jets

Quay Walker - 3 years, 40.5M from the Raiders.

Romeo Doubs - 4 years, $80M from the Patriots

That Gute pivoted on Hobbs so quickly tells us something. Either Gute's getting better at acting on gaffes, or Hobbs just sucked that loudly.

That R. Walker remains unsigned at a premium position tells us something, too.

Still hoping there's a bargain bin DT out there for the taking.

Oddly few of the OTs have been signed yet. Two re-signed with their current club and one signed with a new team. Eight remain unsigned - have no idea why.

You stated it was telling he wasn't signed but what is that?

Other than we haven't heard anything I don't see it as all that telling yet. Free agency just started and we have no idea who his agent is speaking with. If they have more than one suitor it can take a little more time. They might want another tackle to sign or rework their contract that might effect the market. Maybe the team he wants to sign with has to clear some room so they can't make the deal. The reason for it could be due to lots of factors and many of which we are not aware of.

My prediction is that we will see Gute's mistake not extending Enagbare. He is a good edge rusher. He is not dynamic but he seems to play the position the right way,

I was critical of signing St-Juste just because I did not see much from his history. I am starting to see potential. I hope he becomes a great corner.

I am sticking with we will not see much improvement with the trade for Franklin. We will miss Wooden. Time for Franklin to prove me wrong.

I am excited about the Moore signing. He is a good returner and it is something we need. It appears Melton will be going full time to defense.

Cheeze, for the $10 million Enegbare got from the Jets, we could sign Epenesa-Bills and Clowney-Cowboys. And get actual production from the players. Being available was Enegbares biggest strength, hardly any sacks and OK against the run. I love Epenesa to GB for $4-5 million, but Clowney could have a big season across from Parsons.

We dont need an edge to get sacks we have Parsons. He is worth three players.

If the Packers would have signed him to a 2 or more year contract that number would have dropped. I will wait and see and if I am wrong I will admit it 2 or 3 years from now.

We definitely need more guys who can get to the QB. Parson's won't be there to start the year. Also, he gets double teamed and chipped almost every play. We absolutely need another guy who likes eating QB meat.

Parson's delivered big last season. CH72 is in the unenviable position of hoping for failure with Parson's to allow him 5 seconds of "I told you so" schadenfreude. That is a fools hope, I think. Parson's had never been seriously injured until the freak ACL. He seems on or even ahead of his rehab aka Christian Watson (who is cheering Micah on).

Would you rather go into the 2026 draft with the 20th pick or with Parson's? Once that question is answered you can look forward to the Packers 52nd pick.

I like Enagbare. Try hard/exceed expectations guy as a 5th rounder. But now that Cox Jr. is back...he's going to take Kinsley's rotation and has far more upside, I think.

Entertained -
Try the good , the bad and the ugly.
Who did Gute sign that can significantly
alter a game?
Good - Rhyan gives us a center.
But why does Gute continue to over-pay the Offensive line?
Lions Cade Mays Signed 3 for 25 mil
And Then he got nothing for Jenkins .
Who was quickly scooped up by the Browns 2 for 24 mil.
And I'm just not a fan of Banks getting new money.
Regardless of re-working his contract.
Bad- Zaire Franklin vs Quay Walker
there will be fall off here. 30 and slow.
Ugly - Gute- Damned if you do. Damed if you don't.
Gary got traded. Whoopie. The holes are all over the DL.
Saving money- works if your not serious about winning.

If Gute did not pay Rhyan a good to above average center that salary we would have lost him and we would have been looking for a center in the draft or end up with a Jeff Saturday signing.

Have you not seen the centers are getting paid and I believe the Bears would have paid him.

Packer's released Jenkins as an "Failed Physical". However, I just read this as far as comp pick information, "Later Tuesday afternoon, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport jointly reported that Jenkins has agreed to sign a two-year, $24 million contract with the Cleveland Browns, with $20 million guaranteed."

Maybe. He struggled as much physically as mentally last year and C should be less physically demanding. He’s coming off another leg injury too. I’d say Jenkins getting 20 million guaranteed looks like a lot better deal for him than it is for the Browns. Maybe he proves me wrong, but he was on a downward curve at G previously.

Maybe Bisaccia's departure finally woke the Packers up and made them realize that you have to invest in special teams to make them successful. St Juste and Moore are significant additions and re-signing Niemann and Welch will help too. Maybe the Packer special teams will actually be adequate this year.

Last year we signed Welch only for him not to make the roster. We signed Hardman for returns and we picked up Neiman. We also had Zayne Anderson and Bo Melton.

Neiman is back, deservedly, as he was genuinely special in ST terms, currently Anderson is not. Hardman is replaced by Moore, Welch is in for another roster fight. AL suggests Melton is likely to be coming back, but that’s expected but unconfirmed I think. St. Juste may help, but he was probably not signed for that reason primarily.

Not much has changed in terms of 90 man commitment, but it’s the commitment on cut downs that matters. We need to see who is added and who remains in the roster before any real change in attitude can be claimed.

Bisaccia was over-rated as a special teams guy. And for one - I dont expect teams spending draft picks focused on special teams - you send scouting directions to ensure that the ability to focus on tackling and willingness to stick their nose into the pile when watching the college players. We did a poor job on tackling - WE gave up big returns - you dont blame the scouts and GM on bad drafts. Guys like Golden and Doubs should be good returners but like Nixon dont want to return kickoffs - if guys dont block and you get creamed because of poor blocking - Why get that happening to you???. And the holding penalties - fair catch everything. Geesh - worst money spend was on Rich - stats dont lie.

"Elgton Jenkins - Released"

I see today that he was released as "not physically able" or maybe "injury designation" because of his injury by the Packers. Now he signed with Cleaveland.

Does that help with cap relief, or does it make any difference? Sort of like the Max Crosbie deal gone bad with Baltimore.

I think TGR points out that if he's unable to play in '26, there's some small amount of compensation he gets from the Packers. Still, I'm sure he's got to pass a physical to get his Cleveland deal.

It would have been 2 miracles for GB if we had been able to trade Jenkins with all the release rumors.

The Rhyan signing was a neccessary evil. Cade Mays was the only other option and maybe he didn't want to play in GB. Rhyan will be better in 2026 playing Center full time.

Zaire Franklin is a stop gap LB who gets alot of tackles. I really wanted Leo Chenel-Chiefs. Or Devin White-Raiders who resurrected his career with 175 tackles in 2025. Both would have been seen as upgrades from Walker.

Skyy Moore will 100% fix part of our special teams problems. His KR ability is elite. The wild card about him is his untapped potential at WR. He was a Top 10 rated college WR. He caught 94 passes for 1290 yards and 10 TDs his senior year, and only dropped 7 passes in 4 years! He also had some of the best hands in that draft.
For whatever reason the Chiefs WRs struggled the last 3 years while having the best QB on the planet. If Moore can regain that part of his game, then GB got the steal of free agency.

The Packers still have work to do. St Juste is a positive start to fixing the CB room. Because of money woes, I would continue finding cheaper upgrade CBs, and Rasul Douglas would be a great 2 year signing. Then draft a Top 10 CB @ #52 or move back and grab 1 there. Maybe double up later, Daylen Everette?

We need a backup TE upgrade, someone like Charlie Kolar for cheap could make us forget Musgrave and make him expendable to trade.

Calais Campbell would still be the FA prize if we could get him on a 2 year contract because he is better than anyone we have now. Otherwise we need to address this in the 3rd round, but a vet like Campbell could let us push this need to 2027 when we will have those extra comp picks.

Douglas would be good if we got him cheap. He has recent injury history so we cannot depend on him for 17 games.

Yes we do need to look at the TE position. I hope we keep Fitzpatrick. I believe he has potential and he is a very good blocker.

Cheezehead,
Douglas had a very good year in Miami in 2025, maybe his best since leaving GB, I wouldn't expect Sully and Hafley to let him go.
I too like Fitzpatrick, but wasn't his injury an Achilles? That's a year, or close to it.

"The free agent center options were limited and if the Packers are aiming toward a Super Bowl this season, they couldn't gamble on landing a center in the draft capable of starting right away."

I don't share Al's enthusiasm about the Packers aiming for a SB. I just don't see it mostly because at this time, RIGHT NOW, the Packers at least on paper are worse than the team that lost 5 straight. I know, I know, Tucker and Micah we're out but common. The Packers O-Line and D-Lines are NOT what were used to in GB. ESPECIALLY on the O-Line. The CB room isn't looking too good either.

Hopefully the optimism Al and my fellow Packers fans here have hits me and the glass is half full. But after 15 seasons of having the Green & Gold glasses on and being one of the TOP Homers here since the last SB, my glass is running on empty when it comes to optimism. Hopefully Gute can deliver. But after looking at his drafts for the last 5 years and the Packers being a "Draft & Develop" team, I gotta say, where the hell is the development?

I can understand the pessimism but don’t agree with it. Change, rather than running it back, and a recognition of the team’s deficiencies seem evident. I totally agree with the lack of development and put it squarely on the position coaches. Drafting and signing free agents and then playing them out of position looks to be a thing of the past, thankfully. Gute’s gaslighting lends credence to the axiom of watching what is done and not what is said.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the O line. Rhyan and Belton were pressed into service at positions they didn't really practice during the offseason and neither one completely sucked. A full offseason of focus on one position could do wonders for both of them. If Banks can actually stay healthy, this could be a very solid line.

That's the problem with D&D. If you don't hit on a lot of those picks, you're just spinning your wheels. Wait three years before they hit their peak, and then found out it's not high at all. Huge waste of time. If they don't supplement that with FA they're at a huge disadvantage. I don't think they are that much better at all. Parsons and Kraft coming back give them a shot at the playoffs. But going anywhere in the playoffs is a stretch and a half. With Stafford coming back to the Rams, Seattle just winning a SB and the Niners even being tough if they get healthy, that is a tough gauntlet to get through. The Rams could've and should've won the SB but they shot themselves in both feet. They made Seattle's D look ordinary. They are going to be a favorite and maybe THE favorite.

I AM entertained.
Some around here have been saying this has been the most disinterested they've been in awhile, but from my perspective, this off-season due to cap contstraints and contract/roster management, there's a lot going on now that the league year is about to start. This Packers team might not be making wholesale changes, but there's no lack of jockeying going on.

I think the really funny part is that the Packers got Dallas to bite on Gary when Maxx Crosby went to Baltimore, and then Crosby's deal was nixed by the Ravens...so he's back on the market at some point (when he can pass a physical) and Jerrah gets Gary and no 4th. It's still early, so we'll see if they sign a DL or maybe another CB. I think signing St. Juste will allow them to lean into the draft to fill the depth chart at CB and look toward the future. I think day two is a DL and a CB as it stands, now.

I like the Franklin trade, and Franklin both as a player and a leader. Packers need to be forward thinking at LB and look for an opportunity to draft for the future there. I think people overrate Wooden as a run-stopper: he was a replacement-level player, and he'll be replaced.

OL is the most interesting part of this off-season, for me. I think improvement in '26 and '27 hinges on solidifying the OL and OL depth. I'm not a Rhyan guy but he should improve with a mandate to play C this off-season...his pass-blocking wasn't good. Banks should be healthy, and should play better next to an improving C. I think Belton also gets better with a full off-season to focus on a position he never practiced at. Morgan has to show it's time. Tom is a stalwart, but needs to show he's not diminished and needs to stay healthy. That gives them five starters signed at least through '27...if they guessed right, they might be OK.

Playable depth is the issue: Kinnard can be that 6th or 7th OL. Glover can hopefully come back and contribute to the depth chart. After that, Jennings has struggled to be healthy or even active on game days (as has Monk), so I'm not bullish on either of them. I think they need to draft someone who can back up the C spot and someone who can develop into a swing OT. They might be scouring the cuts later on to see if a playable vet comes available.

"OL is the most interesting part of this off-season, for me."

Has to be the first concern for the Packer EVERY season. At least on offense.

D-line next because everything goes through them to get to the weak CB room.

We got a cheaper player in Franklin who should perform similarly to Walker based on prior years. We got a cheaper CB who should be more help than Hobbs last year. We brought back a younger, cheaper, C who was better than Jenkins last year. We did not open up any new holes on the roster that weren’t there already.

Overall we seem to be finding a way to shed some cap and mistakes and still have a similar level core. We have largely managed to stay equivalent while shedding some cap. Not a bad achievement on holding our ground (especially if the Gary trade does go ahead), but not one that suggests we are notably better, just more cap solvent.

From what I read Jones could back out of the Gary deal now and go after Crosby and this would really hurt the Packers and lose a compensatory pick. We would also again be stuck with Gary. From what I see this has to be done before the new league year starts today!

You're right on all that, 0808, but I doubt Jerrah's ego would allow him to back out with much of the NFL thinking the Crosby thing was buyer's remorse. Jerrah doesn't make mistakes, just ask him!
Crosby's back in Las Vegas, but where will he be on Draft Day?

The trade for Gary was officially announced as completed by both the Packers and Cowboys on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. This means he has already passed his physical and the league has processed the trade. At this point, the "failed physical" window has closed. No 'return to sender'

Totally agree dobs. I dig the personnel side maneuverings. We were in the shit too. They're working something big with something like $25M of workable cap rn.

The Gary to DAL, ... ... IN TRADE??? Pick up an R4 for our back pocket next year. Cool. I never thought I could begin to like anything about dementia, but, Jerrah..!

I like Franklin a lot, and I believe he's going to be far superior to Quay Walker. Should be great to see him work with Edgerrin Cooper and whoever else they add. This team needed the kind of experience/mentorship that a player like Zaire Franklin brings.

Looking forward to seeing the OL, NT, LB, CB, EDGE additions along the way here. I believe this team has already improved vs. 2025. Nonetheless, nearly every position in the trenches needs to be addressed with prudent upgrades/depth. We'll see.

And, just like that... IN WALKS HARGRAVE!!! Cool.

Gotta agree with Nick Perry. Not much worth retaining from our drafting since Gutekunst took over. The gaps at OL, DL and CB are not suggesting Super Bowl to me either. I don't see how dumping guys who didn't pan out or aren't worthy of a second contract is the primary tool for building a championship squad. We either have to get better at drafting or this roster will get thinner and more expensive. Sorry for the clouds but we are forced to make too many moves just to stay afloat.

I agree T7 but working from a position of strength helps. We restructured and resigned o-linemen that are average at best with very little behind them. The group got thinner not better. Aside from safety and maybe, maybe WR we don't have much young, cheap talent ready to step up as starters. We are relying very heavily on free agency to cover our talent and depth. This isn't sustainable. Free agency is good for patching and adding the couple of pieces to put you over the hump. We need it because our core development isn't there.

If Loyd is healthy in September, that should be seen as a bonus. He’s as near as one can get to a 3rd year rookie. He’s essentially untested in protection and ball security as well. An extra draft pick (like OL Williams), but not one it is rational to count on. Sort of like taking a late round flyer on a talented prospect who hadn’t been able to stay healthy by this point.

Lots of names on that list, but I think you forgot Romeo Doubs. Signed with the Patriots: 4 years at $17M per year. Packers have good depth at the position and can replace him with Matthew Golden, so no surprise there. Happy for Doubs! I think he developed into a pretty good receiver and Love will miss him.

I don't think Golden can just walk in and replace him. He hasn't shown he can be a possession WR and looks like more of a slot guy IMO. I think Doubs leaves a whole in the offense, hopefully Golden or someone can fill that role but I have my doubts that the guys on the roster can be that player. Golden is a little small for a the X position, Watson is more of a stretch the field type of guy and Reed is another slot guy. Who is the guy that can be trusted to run precise routes and be where Love expects him?

Packers have a lot of weapons but with the departure of Doubs they again need a someone to prove they can be the possession WR that can move the chains.

Thumbs up, BuckyBadger, for reminding me that wide receivers aren't interchangeable.
We may have an abundance of WRs on the Packers, but maybe not at doing what Doubs has done for the team.
That being said, why can't Reed and/or Wicks do what Doubs has done, maybe Savion?
Plus, there's Tucker Kraft.
It would have been tough to keep Doubs at about $17 million per season. It's a good question, though, as to how his role will be filled.
I'm interested to hear what other fans think.

Let's not forget about Reed who missed 10 game. The group of Watson, Reed, and Golden give us plenty of speed and athletics and Wicks or Williams could develop into solid possession WRs.

Unlike most fans, I'm not convinced that Bisaccia left because he was unhappy about a lack of commitment to acquiring special teams personnel. They've invested heavily in kicker, punter, and long snapper and have brought in or retained several special teams specialists in the past couple years.

I think it's quite possible that Bisaccia left because he was sick of the level of pressure and scrutiny of being in the NFL. Not that Clemson is a walk in the park, but at age 65, I think Bisaccia will enjoy the feeling of no longer being hated by large numbers of fans.

I like the way Gute operates in making reasonable investments in under-the-radar players with an upside.
Some of them will pan out; some will be serviceable; and others won't make it. Maybe one or two excel.
Then, Gute does kind of the same thing in the draft. He looks for college guys who may be underrated due to unusual circumstances (e.g, injuries in their senior years, or a change of coaching that hinders their development) and hopes they'll outperform expectations.
Again, some of these guys will hit, while others will miss. I do think that many fans agree that this is a better strategy for the later rounds, while the early rounds should be for more proven players ready to step into the lineup right away, or at least make contributions.
What I like is that Gute was flexible in this approach by going for Micah Parsons last season, when he thought it was worth the risk to give a lot to get a lot. I'm glad our GM is willing to swing for a home run if the situation is right, but that this is done rarely.
In other words, it seems the Packers are still focused on draft-and-develop, which is the best way to go. However, they've adapted over the years by partaking of the free agent market with some caution, which is also good.
***
Out of approximately 6 free agent signings and 6 draft picks for this upcoming season of 2026, plus undrafted free agents, maybe one or two becomes an immediate standout like Rasul Douglas. It's likely a few others are solid additions. Others will at least make the team as subs or will be signed to the practice squad.
Plus, maybe a player or two we re-signed, such as Sean Rhyan, takes a step up.
To me, Gute is a very good GM, maybe excellent. The key for him going forward, as noted above, is to draft more predictably in the early rounds with immediate contributors.

The real fear of why I couldn't sleep last night Al was some analyst mentioned if Dallas thinks they can get Crosby on the cheap, they would break the Gary deal and he would be back.
I did read that a very good source in the know said they have no interest in Crosby now, that ship sailed with the Ravens deal.

I wonder how bad Crosby really is. I've read everything from he's not even worth taking the risk to one GM calling bullshit on the whole back-out by Baltimore. But the Ravens did a quick pivot and got Hendrickson, so I have to think it's a legitimate concern. Roll the dice, take your chances.

That's what I'm thinking, I don't know why so many people assume that the Ravens are lying about Crosby not passing the physical. I don't see why they would've backed out of the deal if they did not have a legitimate concern about his health.

He was not expected to pass a physical in the sense of being ready to play now. That doesn’t mean that the medical assessment didn’t reveal some additional concerns/complications. It’s not at all implausible that their assessment pushed their assessment of the risk higher than they anticipated or could live with. Obviously we outsiders will never have the details, but nor do some of the people getting irate over this.

With Jacobs being the only RB on the roster (Lloyd is actually going to have to come back and play before I'll believe it) I would've liked to see the Packers take a shot at getting Kenneth Gainwell in FA. Every time I saw him play he was explosive and a damn good pass catcher. He would've been a nice addition to the RB room where they would have two good RB's now. I didn't see what he got as far as $$$ go, but the Bucs picked up a good one IMO.

I really like what Emanuel Wilson did for the Packers at RB. There were several times where he came in and moved the ball when Jacobs was struggling. Would rather they kept him. He's an UFA and hasn't signed with anyone yet.

I can't understand not signing Wilson either. As good as Jacobs is, he has had a huge workload each year in the league and his inside the tackles runs absorbs a lot of punishment, until last year it did not effect his availability.

Signing a solid hands blocking back at a low price was a good move but if Jacobs goes down we did have in Wilson someone who could carry the ball effectively 25-30 times a game who moved the chains, didn't fumble the ball and ran with an excellent burst at 225 pounds, and improved each year catching the ball and blocking. Hard to believe they didn't have the money to give the offense that kind of peace of mind.
