FIT WITH THE PACKERS:

Ford projects as Reserve Defensive Tackle who can give the starters a breather. He flashes occasional period of disruption but doens't quite have value as a pass rusher. Ford's best fit will be in subpackages where he can receive help on the line and try to win his 1 on 1 matchup to disrupt the play.

COMMENTARY:

Ford will likely benefit from a full NFL Offseason where he can lose weight and reshape his body in order to add pass rushing value and get more playing time due to better conditioning.

I love this pick too. Ford & Carpenter picks development pieces for the future. Very smart choices of sound players with physical tools required. Dynamic.

I have mocked Carpenter every time for 30 mocks. 6-2 , 230Lb with a 4,47, 40 . I move him to LB and cut Summers.
He should be a sp teams ace.

Summers & Barnes out. Wilborn, IN!

My brother, I think there’s a good chance Tariq Carpenter sticks at S, yet able to cover ILB Hybrid duties in a pinch. I’m wondering if he won’t turn out to be a far more significant pick in this Defense…?

We’ll see how Wilborn developed this offseason. I bet he and Quay Walker look very similar.

When Barry can’t progress with Barnes, he won’t be able to with Summers either. Best ST player on NFL’s worst ST units definitely replaceable. I think both won’t make it.

This pick shows the advantage of having extra 7th round picks this year. The FO likes him, but may not have drafted him in a non-covid year. He may not have signed with the Packers as a UFDA. This year we can snag him and give him time to develop. It will be curious to see how this all plays out.

Just filling out that roster. I did think there would be more emphasis on ST in round 7. Carpenter fits there, but then DL, OL. Still, at first sight it looks like a very nice draft for the Pack.

Definitely nice to have those extra picks to create competition at bottom of roster! Always fun to go see the new kids in training camp and wish them luck!

Of the four 7th rounders, only Ford doesn't impress. He really did nothing in college...the other 3 prospects, did.

It seems to me, Team Gutey did a good job discussing needs with the Coaching Staff and prioritized those needs well.

I agree. When it came to Ford…I had a “better idea”. I would have liked a RB or TE.

He's a reserve defensive tackle with special teams upside. He played there at Miami on the Field Goal teams. Think of his frame holding up at the point of attack or at 6'5" getting up to block a kick. That's his value.

Ford is a huge person. He could be effective in short yardage and goal line if he sticks. Thanks, Since '61

The beauty is in what they see and plan for in player development plans for everyone on their board, I would assume… so they know where they are with the player, coaches assessments, etc. The complete picture, scouting assessments, all of it.

Since’61, you can see it in every pick, the Packers positional prototype. Early picks mostly highly advanced… and down the line. Really impressive to see.

Gutekunst’s staff have studied each player for years, I’d imagine. Remarkable success looking at how players rank comes only with knowledge like that.

7 Ourlads, 5 Athlon’s & 4 PFF Top 100 Players… Impressive.

Yet the Vyqueens and bares, who just fired their GMs and HCs, crushed the draft! LOL! And Detroit, who has been drafting atop the draft rounds for half a century, did as well.

SMH...with a smile as broad as yours, G&G!

I get why people may have been hoping for something else te, rb, or safety. I love the pick it's low risk and it has been a while since we had a mountain in the middle. What would be the weight with him Clark and Wyatt, my goodness almost half a ton. Wow no more blowing D-Line is short yeadage.

This guy almost looks skinny in the pictures for a guy that weighs 330 lbs. Almost no gut at all unlike Devonte Wyatt. Looks to be in good shape for that big. He went to and started at Miami, that says something for this guy. Miami hasn't been as good as years ago but they are still Miami. Maybe we can unlock something that will let them move on from Dean Lowry and save $5 million.

He had offers from Ohio State,Michigan, USC and 25 others out of high school. Wow he was the only players from Miami drafted this year. Thats incredible from what they used to be. If his problem is lack of effort. that will change or else. Money and a chance to keep playing football will be great motivators. He looks like an athlete.
