Camp Notes: Day 12

Some last observations from Nitschke Field prior to the start of the preseason.

  • Packers got a lot of guys back on the field today, including Kevin King, Kamal Martin, Isaiah McDuffie and Kingsley Keke.
  • Jon Runyan was with the ones at left guard for the majority of team stuff that I saw today.
  • Josiah Deguara got a bunch of work with the ones, including in the 2 minute drill where he had a really nice catch over the middle.
  • With Aaron Jones still sitting out, Kylin Hill rotated with AJ Dillon with the first team and made a few nice grabs in the passing game, including snagging a high throw from Rodgers during 2 min.
  • Jordan Love threw deep up the right sideline and got picked off by Adrian Amos then came back the next play and threw deep up the left sideline for a huge gain to DeAndre Thompkins. No fear from Love.
  • Love also had a great ball to Reggie Begelton on a corner route.
  • Allen Lazard had one of the best catches of the day after beating Josh Jackson on what looked like an over route working across from right to left.
  • Davante Adams spent team taking every reception all the way to the endzone, even the shortest routes where he clearly would have been tackled. Old school style.
  • Late in practice, Rodgers caught the defense trying to substitute and caught them with his patented hurry up free play, which was completed to a wide open Deguara.
  • Love found Malik Taylor WIDE open deep during 2 min for a 50+ yard touchdown. First real busted coverage I can remember seeing all camp.
  • Rodgers found Cobb a few times underneath in the middle vs coverage that had been run off. Suspect we'll see a bit of that this year.
  • Newcomer Chauncey Rivers, after flashing a bit the other day, had another really nice day today. He has some pass rushing tools.
  • That's it for me from Green Bay as I head back to New York tomorrow.
  • Looking forward to the first preseason game.
  • Go Pack.

Nags, thanks for your daily camp observations! Also a special thanks for your live “thoughts” while crushing spotted cows!
Love it!

Kevin King back on the field, eh?

Don't worry. He'll be out again by 8/25.

Man, if Rivers and Slayton both are upgrades we may have a top ten defense!

Rivers is doubtful to be anything, and even if he was it would be hard for him to see playing time, but Slaton looks the part and wouldn't be shocked if he secured a starting spot next to Kenny Clark on run downs to start the season. It's just harder to project pass rushers in practice.

We need a 4th OLB to show up. Rivers has certainly joined the group fighting for that spot after Ramsey was lost. Let’s hope one wins visibly. Now, can Avery help too?
