Breaking News: Mark Murphy Is Not Required to Talk About Aaron Rodgers

Packers president Mark Murphy makes no mention of Aaron Rodgers in latest monthly column.

Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy made no mention of Aaron Rodgers in his latest Murphy Takes 5 column on the team website. And thank goodness he did. It was a wise decision following his “complicated fella” remark made in June.

Unfortunately, Murphy can’t win in any scenario when it comes to the Rodgers saga. If he says anything, it will be dissected from every angle. Mainly for no other reason than the fact that there is still very little understanding on why Rodgers is upset with the front office. However, if Murphy chooses to say nothing, well, that is also frowned upon.

Every month, Murphy answers questions sent to him from the fan base. He previously addressed the Rodgers situation in a previous installment of MT5 and said that the predicament has divided the fan base. In the same answer, Murphy did say the team was committed to Rodgers in 2021 and beyond.

By now, NFL fans have been beaten over the head by the drama in Green Bay. Murphy made the ill-advised comments, and thankfully, hasn’t made a peep since.

The Packers have always chosen to handle things in-house. It’s an organizational approach that, more times than not, turns into the right decision. But when Murphy doesn’t discuss Rodgers at every opportunity, prepare to have it overanalyzed by the media.

NFL.com headlined Monday that Murphy made no mention of Rodgers in his monthly column. And while the story did mention Murphy’s previous thoughts on the Rodgers’ situation, the headline of “Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy makes no mention of Aaron Rodgers in latest column” is a deceptive title.

It gets clicks, and that’s about it.

Training camp is a little under a month away, so there is little to talk about in the NFL. However, this is still a classic example of damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Murphy does not get a pass for his role in the relationship between the organization and the franchise quarterback. In fact, most of the blame could very well rest on his shoulders.

However, expecting Murphy to address the Rodgers situation at every turn is a weak take.

Either Rodgers will be at training camp at the end of the month, or he won’t. He said leading up to The Match that he has used this offseason to focus on his mental health. Perhaps that entails separating himself from football and the media circus to focus on other things.

Time will tell if he wants to rejoin his teammates in Green Bay.

"It gets clicks, and that’s about it."

Right on the heels of Jersey Al's weekly article, where criticizing Florio as talking nothing for money/clickbait, the CHTV puts forth an article of nothing for clickbait while asking its followers to endure the incessant postings in the comments section about Google Money Makers to make money based on participation. Is CHTV the goose or the gander or is it simple jealousy that riles those at CHTV that others always say and do it first? Second-hand responders shouldn't cry or complain about who gives them their article ideas, to begin with.

Taryn, if you can't decipher the difference between parody and poking fun of something and actually doing it, then I can't help you. One thing I can tell you is that NO ONE here is overly concerned about clicks. We do fine in terms of page views every day and our only goal is that people read our articles and enjoy them.

As for the "make money online" spam comments, we are trying to find a solution to keep them out. We've stopped the spambots but now we have an army of real people creating accounts and posting their spam comments. We delete them as quickly as we can, but we have to spend significant time to find and delete them - not ideal and our developers are looking for a solution. If you think running a site is easy, go try it yourself. Hey, maybe that's an idea for you, you can call it, ""TarynCriticizesEverything.com"

Finally, I'm not going to get into a back and forth with you. You can believe what you want, and criticize to your heart's content, but you have no idea what the reality is at CHTV. None.

Thanks for all that you do, Al, Aaron, Corey and Tyler here to make this the best Packer web site around! Your CHTV staff is to be commended, and I can only imagine the challenges to keep things running as best as possible. Clearly, what you've done here is a passion. It's always great to pop in, read the articles, the commentaries, kick ideas around with fellow fans, and I want you to know that what you do here is very much appreciated!

There's enough variety in the SPAM that we would need many filters and likely end up flagging some legit comments. There has to be a better way and we're hoping the developers can find it.

Silence is one of the most powerful expressions one can make in conflict. As Brandon points out, some will judge that silence depending on their needs and view of the Rodgers ordeal. Yet, silence has a better chance of not escalating the issue. Tough for Murphy to win in this one.

My take is Rodgers will be at training camp and Love can put his hopes and dreams on hold for a few years yet. This beautiful mystery is almost over.
Pretty much everyone in the pack org understands this thus no panic. They just keep their mouths shut.
If he wanted out he would have demanded a trade and never said that.

Training camp? Probably not unless he has a new contract by then. He will sit out until he gets a new contract, and the FO probably does not see the beginning of Training Camp as a deadline for negotiations. They will work out a deal because both sides want to work out a deal, and Rodgers will play for GB this year.

"It gets clicks, and that’s about it."

These types of headlines are very obvious. Name dropping tells you that there would be nothing of substance inside.

Similarly, I have found that columns that feature headlines with superlatives like "astounding, terrible, unbelievable, etc" will have nothing inside. The best way to get me to NOT click is to have a catchy superlative in the heading. That, and name-dropping. Both guarantee to be duds.

It's Time Murphy Spilled his Guts! He knew Rodgers wanted out. He insisted they won't trade him. HE visited Rodgers. He has to be briefing the board. The public has the right to know now. Regardless if the cat bit Rodger's tongue. This isn't going away. It's No longer confidential. It's NEWS. And it's up to the packers to " tell what they know". Murphy added to the Drama. And he can end it.

no he doesn't. Murphy does not owe you an explanation yet. This is why Brandon has to write such articles to persuade you that Murphy should remain quiet, negotiate quietly, and doesn't owe the fans any news until there is news. Which would mean either a change in the contract, or such that both agreed to, or a clear one sided decision such as Rodgers making an ultimatum that is unacceptable and necessitates a clear parting of ways. So, that is not the case, and thus Brandon makes the point.

If Murphy said anything substantive I can just imagine the reaction. When he said virtually nothing it caused many to have palpitations.

As far as the team is concerned their stance is that Rodgers is under contract and thus to report. Mr. Rodgers will speak with his feet at the start of camp or maybe after the 5th day (mandatory fines triggered).

Unless Rodgers chooses to make a statement of why he will not be returning g, the team only stands to lose by saying anything (unless to announce a trade or other agreement).

If Rodgers s does not participate in camp, it will be on him to state why he chooses not to play under his contract. The team will run Love with the ones and The onus to make a move will be on Rodgers.

I see no circumstances other than the two sides reach a compact or a trade where the team should or will need to comment. As time ticks, the ball rests ever more firmly on Rodgers to break the dam one way or the other.

Personally I expect nothing till camp, that he doesn’t show, mandatory fines kick in and Rodgers becomes frustrated by the lack of attention from the team and that this galvanizes him to action. I’d like to think he’d turn up and play, but I’m no longer seeing a basis for that hope other than blind optimism.

If the team is smart, with the exception of a trade, the pressure will fall increasingly on Rodgers ( despite howls from the pundits, about which the team will care nothing).

Rumor alert: I have heard from a couple of mutual acquaintances that the Packers board believe that the issue is indeed a demand for personnel change and that they are unified in the belief that those demands were extraordinary and utterly unacceptable. Apparently the Board and Murphy are in lockstep in the view that Rodgers is well over the line of acceptability. Take that as you will.

I am not commenting on the article. I was thinking about team speed. I would like ML to experiment with our top speed for WR packages:
MVS, Alexander, Stokes, Jones, and Adams in a...we'll call it GO package where they run deep routes and pull coverage down field and either hand off or dump off to Jones and alternatively pass to a speed receiver and also a halfback pass option to go with it. Okay ...I'm bored....but it could be a fit with 2-3 variables rolled into it. Overwhelm the other teams secondary coverage ability for big gains on ground or in the air.

Phantom is correct, as Harrison wanted $5 million. He only had 9 tackles in very limited play. I thought the Packers would pursue Anthony Rush on a cheap deal. He is a 350 lb DT who had even fewer snaps last year. Neither player has signed with any team, and Rush is only 24. Harrison is probably done (32) and sounds like he has no motivation. I still would like to see a cheap DT signing once teams cut down in August.

Murphy is done with Rodgers. Pretty simple. It's irreparable and not just for Aaron but mutually irreparable for the FO now too. I think Murphy doesn't want Rodgers back, nor Gute at this point. It really wouldn't shock me if Rodgers doesn't report at all and that is what the Packers are planning on right now. They are done placating Rodgers now.. It's now time for big boy pants and time for camp. The offseason is winding down and it is time to show up for work and time to move forward with those whom want to work to help the Packers win games. If Rodgers doesn't want to be a part of that, so be it. He will have some expensive mail.

Also, come training camp, MLF needs to stop with the "We want him back in the worst way" or "I can't imagine not having Aaron." Enough. That annoyed me a lot, but was it May.....I expect a hard turn to the season.. You CAN indeed imagine it Coach because it happens to teams every year. The NFL is a league of replacement. If MLF continues that shit into camp with no Rodgers at camp, he will lose the team.
