Steelers K Jeff Reed Signs Franchise Tender

Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed has signed his franchise tender, the team announced on Tuesday.

Reed, who turned 31 last week, is 189-for-227 (83.3%) on field goal attempts during his eight seasons with the Steelers, with a career long of 53 yards. Reed is also 16-of-18 on field goal attempts in the post-season during his career, with both of his misses coming in 2002, Reed's rookie season.

Reed is second on the Steelers' all-time scoring list with 855 career points, and his 189 field goals are the second-most in team history, behind only Gary Anderson.

The former undrafted free agent out of the University of North Carolina was 27-of-31 on field goal attempts last season, with a long of 46 yards.

By signing the tender, Reed has a guaranteed base salary of $2.814 million dollars for the 2010 season.
