Bills LB Kawika Mitchell Seeks Injury Settlement

Buffalo Bills veteran linebacker Kawika Mitchell, placed on injured reserve with a foot injury on September 10, has asked the team to release him, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Schefter adds that an injury settlement could be reached as soon as today, which when healthy, would allow the soon-to-be 31-year old to sign with another team.

Mitchell was slated to play a reserve inside linebacker role for the Bills this season, but injured his foot during a September 8 practice. Mitchell is scheduled to earn a $2 million base salary this season, the third year of a five-year, $17.5 million contract Mitchell signed in 2008.

After finishing second on the team in tackles (82), and tying for the team lead with 4 quarterback sacks his first season in Buffalo, Mitchell missed all but 5 games in 2009 with a torn quadriceps.
