Barnett May Opt to Play Despite Surgery Recommendation

Despite reports out of Bristol that Green Bay Packers linebacker Nick Barnett was done for the season, Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that Barnett has not made a decision to have surgery on his wrist.

Bedard reported on Wednesday that Barnett would seek a second opinion on his wrist, which he's been advised to having surgery on for "quality of life issues", on Friday.

The 29-year old Barnett was injured during the first half of Sunday's 28-26 win over the Detroit Lions. Barnett returned to the game with a cast, totaling 10 tackles on the day.

A first-round pick (23rd overall) out of the Oregon State in 2003, Barnett has started all 107 games he's played in the NFL, totaling 787 tackles, 15.5 sacks, and 9 interceptions. A torn ACL cost Barnett the final seven games during the 2008 season.

I love Barnett, and I want the team to do well, but I do not want him to put his quality of life post-football at risk just so that he can stay with the club. If the second recommendation is the same as the first, he should go on IR.
