Yes, I Am Throwing This Against the Wall...

Yes, I Am Throwing This Against the Wall...

...and seeing if it will stick.

First, there's this (from an anonymous NFL source):

I could see Julius Peppers going to the Packers or the Broncos. They are both moving to 3-4 fronts. He could make the kind of impact in Green Bay that Reggie White did. I know we’d love to have him, but I think the market will be too rich. The Packers have always managed the cap well.

Then there's this from Bedard:

Seeing the numbers on Burnett's contract tells me two things. 1) The Packers must have 90% of their $29 million cap room budgeted for contract extensions or some big move because Burnett's contract was really digestible.

I'm just sayin'....

(And rest assured, dear readers, I will get the scoop when I meet Thompson this weekend... ;) )

I kind of agree with Bedard, something is up.

All this throwing up talk lately worries me. Try Atkins man.

Hey, let me be the first on this bandwagon. I'd love getting an over-priced FA who can actually play for a change. It's fun to talk about but it ain't gonna happen (I sincerely hope I'm wrong).

As I stated in a previous post, I'm afraid there is more to the Packer FA inactivity than TT's reluctance to participate. Burnett's contract with SD is the evidence I site.

Peppers would bring joy to Packerland in this economic mess.

I hesitate to jump on the bandwagon with Bedards written jabs of TT about this Burnett thing. I would not doubt for a second that Burnett would rather play in SD than he would in GB. The money would have probably been comparable, he may have a better opportunity to start in SD, and the town and it's weather trump Green Bay by a mile.

But on the opposite side of that coin, a huge signing like Peppers may change a few minds of veterans about Green Bay. Woodson has flourished in Green Bay, it would be nice if some other big names would follow....even if for no other reason than to open doors.

Very interesting point scrump. GB was accused of being 'dull' by the guys at the JS more than once last year. A splash like Peppers would certainly help change that perception (which I'm not sure I entirely agree with)

At the risk of being a downer, I'd rather pay Kampman next year and keep the draft picks.

I think Peppers is fine but I don't think we definitely need him. That being said, I'd love us to go after him simply because it would show some aggression and dynamism in getting our team back on track. I am normally fine with Ted's prudent way of managing free agency but if there was ever a time to pick up some impact guys, this is it.

I can think of twenty reasons not to do it, I'm still not convinced it will actually happen, but deep down I'd still like to see it.

A big move to come?

Maybe.

But it will not be Peppers and his unreal contract that he will be asking for, add to the fact that he hasn't proven he can play in any role of the 3-4.

He has proven that he isn't a rock at the point of attack.. so a DE in a 3-4 isn't screaming his name. And as freakish of a athlete as he is.. can he man the OLB spot?

Way to much risk for the type of Jack this cat will command.

No thanks.. I would rather be bored this offseason than watch Peppers flop in GB.
