Actually, I wouldn't mind if they picked Najee up. Someone will. But consider this: PHI cut Najee and kept some dude named Brad Jones. (Yes, THAT Brad Jones). So maybe Najee's not as Goode as advertised.

Good Point. I am just so frustrated with the lack of attention Ted and his team have paid to the MLB position. A while back Ted rotated in different defensive lineman to try to find a fit and I don't see why he does not try now. I actually thought some of the guys he found were very helpful to the team...Albeit, they did not stay for long, but it was better than hoping things would get better.

I am expecting them to bring in 9 and keep one spot open to tryout 1 player or drop a player to the practice squad once Jones returns. Abbederis, Neal, Vujnovich, Vaughters, Glover-Wright, Rotheram, Ringo, Thomas, Henry are my nine from the previous roster. They may carry two TEs (Perillo) given Quarless situation. Hate to see anybody lose a job! We have more OL and CB's than usual and thus Rotheram and Glover-Wright may lose out. I hate to see anybody lose a job! Think these guys deserve another chance!

Let's hope he declines any team trying to sign him. I hope there were behind the scene talks with the coaches and they just want to see him hold up through a handful of practices before adding him to the 53.

I wasn't on the Hubbard bandwagon. I just want to see what Dantzler can be w/ some development. I loved that he played coverage in college alot and was in those situations. Not sure what his measurable are, I know they were good but If he can cover, run and chase and tackle, I want to see if he can develop.

Unless you think Jones can beat out Montgomery or Adams to be one the starting receivers he is not worth it. As the number 4 and 5 guy I would much rather have Janis and White out there. Both of those guys can break a long one and White has looked good as a move the sticks and get the 8 yard catch on 3rd and 7 sort of guy.

ESPN reports he's coming back so I guess this is happening, they must think he can help out in the red zone and all the troubles this team has had there.

I don't think his game was speed. Eventually provided reliable hands, reliable routes, would outfight the db to the ball consistently.

James Jones game was never about speed though I wouldn't say his hands are "Reliable". He was always excellent around the Goal Line and moving the chains. He had 14 TD's in 2012 and most of them came inside the redzone and Uthy is right, he'll fight for the ball. Right now the Packers WR's not named Cobb or Adams have a total of 9 receptions in regular season games. Jones would be a nice addition if the price is right. There's a lot to be said for a guy that could step right in and not have to learn the offense.

Exactly. And he doesn't have any leverage. No one else claimed him. I see this as a Matt Flynn situation. With the right coaches/offensive system JJ can be a nice 2nd/3rd WR. And we need another WR that can play the X with some size. Since this is JJ's game, and he already knows the offense, he is a perfect fit.

Of course, we still lose the ability to blow the top off the defense without Jordy out there. The playaction bombs down the sideline are probably not going to happen this year. Which really sucks. Teams FEARED that.

Hopefully by the end of the year Janis can be that guy.

Having a guy that can take the top off of a defense is surely helpful but it is not a must have for an offense to be successful.

Drealyn, I agree with you if you mean that a team doesn't need a burner, but teams need a guy who can get vertical. There is a lot less clutter messing up the short and intermediate routes if safeties have to honor the vertical route. "Need" and "taking the top off the defense" are the word and phrase in question here. We probably aren't too far apart.

Good post Nick, I agree. Also, Rodgers lobbied for Jones once before maybe he is doing so again. I'm assuming that if he signs with the Packers he would be #4 behind Cobb, Adams and Montgomery. Also, with Abby back on the PS I can see White or Janis becoming expendable as the season goes on, especially if they are ineffective. Thanks, Since '61

I think the problem is that neither Cobb nor Montgomery are going to be 100% for a couple of weeks, at least. So, then you're down to Adams, Janis, and White. I doubt the last two are really ready for prime time, so James Jones would really help out, even if it's only 3 or 4 catches a game.

Agreed 61 with the first premise (and Nick), but I think JJ comes in at Jordy's position and let Cobb return to the slot. I just am not convinced on this move, but am intrigued. JJ is an outstanding character guy too (which may be filling some of that void with Jordy out). You wonder what they fear with the new guys, OR, is this speaking to something more serious with Cobb and/or Montgomery?

Interesting opinion. You might be right. There is the reason why he was released from Raider (111 dropped passes!) and from Giants after TC. But, maybe all those dropped passes is not JJ mistake. I think we will find that pretty quickly. Randall might be more in question than Montgomery. Because they released Raijon Neal, and if Ty is not ready, we will have problem with fielding KR... It is puzzle, and no matter how much I'm in or against JJ coming back, I am also intrigued, because Ted Thompson made mistakes, but very, very rarely...

Actually, JJ with the Raiders only dropped 5 passes, which is really good. Considering he was getting screwed over as the only offensive player worth a damn on that team, that's extremely good.

Plus, Jeff Janis is always an option at kick returns :p. Nah, just kidding.
Not too worried about week 1 KR, as it is the bears we're talking about.
Dude, you know what we should do? We should put BJ Raji at kick return. Everyone'll just bounce off him.

Maybe JJ wasn't the most athletic WR we've ever had, but he did make a number of big plays for us in his time here. Take a look at some of these catches he fought for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3YFJjvXRRo

Or how about this beauty: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DM_qV6gCHk

If he's got anything left, I say do it.

If they are not gonna sign Hubbard to the PS, I was hoping they look for another body type like his. 2 guys available are OLB Lynden Trail of the Texans and DE/OLB Larry Webster of the Lions. Both are 6'7" and around 260 lbs. Possible Peppers replacement or Neal and Perry are UFAs next year so having an OLB ready to step in next year would be wise.

Wonder with a possible James Jones resigning if they'll only go with 9 PS guys for now(looks like the have eight so far). If they do sign J Jones, then they'll have to kick someone else off the 53 and probably try to get on the PS.

Imagine being excited to make the 53 and then get kicked off (will happen anyway when the d-lineman return from suspension). And then to get kicked off the PS when the 53 guy gets sent to the little table.

Sucks being a bubble boy.

There is no such thing as too many QBs in today's NFL, IMO. Whenever you find a good one, you do all you can to retain and develop them. We saw what happened when the Packers got sloppy in that area.
