Thompson Impressed With Orakpo

That's according to Gil Brandt's report from Texas' Pro Day.

Astute readers will remember that I was pining for Orakpo back in December. Just imagine Orakpo playing opposite Kampman at outside linebacker. And smile...

Would be a fine choice. I think Pickett will need a good backup so I still lean towards Rajji. Taking Rajji will still give the Packers an outside chance at one of the USC LB's in the second round.

I found Lombardi's comments on WSSP this afternoon interesting. He feels that unless a specific player another team wants desperately is there at #9 the Packers couldn't trade down. The #9 pick will be too expensive for the value they will provide. In other words, I think he means after the top 5 or 6 the rest would fall in to second round talent level. Interesting take on this draft, I haven't heard a take like this before.

You did say that, and I did say several times he will be long gone. And for Ron, Raji won't be there either. I know I posted somewhere that Smith was a bad idea, but if you look at who might be left that is a real 1st tier pick, Smith might be the only one. I'm really starting to lean that way because I agree that it will be tough to trade down. Sorry folks, but I don't know that we can pass on "fat bastard."

Ahhh - but Andrew - how do we know Thompson doesn't trade UP to get him? Whooooaaaaa!!! Cats and dogs, living together, mass hysteria!

My prediction is the leftovers of the 3 top OTs. Brace from BC is my hope for the 2nd round.

aaron, has it ever occurred to you that maybe the reason why we're so... static. . lately is because the dead really... aren't .. rising from the grave?

i don't forsee any old testament-type changes. how 'bout a little music?

"I'm going to get him a nice fruitbasket . . . I'm gonna miss him . . ."

Seriously now, didn't Bedard mention at some point that he thought Orakpo was a one trick pony, a la, gasp, Jamal Reynolds?

He did. He also said B.J. Raji wasn't suited to the nose, an evaluation that is not shared by many draftniks I really respect, so I'm not sure how much stock I putin Bedards powers of projection when it comes to college talent transitioning to the Pros...

If TT trades UP then we'll need to break out more movie references than Ghostbusters. In fact, there's probably not enough movie references out there to describe the dissonance I'd be feeling if that happened

The more interviews I read about Ted and his thoughts about our team the more I realize he is going to be drafting a offensive tackle with the first pick.

I'm not sold on Orakpo. Saw his interview on ESPN and he seems like the type that is a weight room wonder. Someone who is powerful and tough but can't make it work on the football field. Bigger potential for bust with that guy.

All I know is I just took a sample Wonderlic and scored 32. I'm a genius among football players, but only slightly better than a mental midget among the rest of us. Sigh.

Check this out - one of the questions I got wrong was I had to pick out the number that didn't fit among about a dozen numbers. The numbers were as small as 3 and as big as 10,007 or something like that. So I'm sitting there looking for greatest common denominators, prime numbers, what divides into what, etc. The answer - only one number was even. The rest were odd. DUH! Talk about making it harder than it had to be. I'm guessing Vince Young got that one wrong too
