TE Brandon Bostick Indicates He's Being Let Go by Packers

The Packers tight end is best remembered as botching the onside kick recovery in the NFC Championship.

When Brandon Bostick went rogue in the NFC Championship loss to the Seattle Seahawks, his fate was likely sealed.

The Green Bay Packers tight end indicated on social media on Monday that it's become official, that he's been or will be released by the organization:

With just over two minutes remaining in the NFC Championship, Bostick declined to block the oncoming Seahawks looking to recover an onside kick, as was his responsibility, and instead attempted to be the hero.

Bostick leaped in the air after the bouncing football, but it went through his hands and hit him in the helmet. Trusted wide receiver Jordy Nelson—the player designed to recover the football—could only look on as the Seahawks gained possession.

The Packers would go onto lose 28-22 in overtime, and Bostick became an object for scorn and ridicule. Although his miscue was one of many that led to the Packers blowing a two-score lead in the fourth quarter, the Packers would have very likely won had he just grabbed the onside kick.

Beyond his forgettable moment on special teams, Bostick made little impact on the Packers offense in 2014 either. Playing just 35 snaps this season according to ProFootballFocus.com (premium content), Bostick caught a mere two passes for three yards, albeit one going for a touchdown.

Entering the season it was hoped Bostick would be able to fill the void left by former Packers tight end Jermichael Finley as a player that would be able to stretch the seam and be a threat over the middle.

In the Packers' preseason opener, Bostick had an impressive catch-and-run covering 24 yards, perhaps evidence that he was destined for a bigger role. Unfortunately, he followed that up a knee injury that forced him to miss the remainder of training camp and the team's regular-season opener.

Bostick has one year remaining on the contract he signed in 2013 with the Packers. By releasing him, the Packers would save $585,000 on the salary cap.

When released, Bostick will go on waivers, eligible to be claimed by another NFL team.

The Packers have not yet confirmed Bostick's release at the time of publication and the official NFL transaction wire will be released later Monday afternoon.

Had hope for the kid at one time, but he's been dead to me since Seattle. We can do better than Bostick.

Colt Lyerla would have made an impact and would not have made that mistake. What could have been... Bostic is a goat, failure. Couldn't learn the playbook in 3 years and R. Rodgers learned enough of it in 1 season to play 47% of the snaps. Bostic is a failure at all levels. Now sign Lyerla!!

God dammit dude, just let it go.
Lyerla got stoned and robbed from a hobo or something.

We'll see what off-season acquisitions TT makes at TE, whether draft, UDFA or FA. I am not a fan of Maxx at #30. But right now, the cupboard is bare at TE.. I don't care what you think: I'd be fine with Lyerla in camp. It costs nothing. I'd be fine if he is not, maybe because GB decides he never learned the playbook, or had other problems, or they don't want to deal with his off the field issues.

If he gets on the roster in training camp, I am perfectly fine with that. I just don't think we need to constantly call for it.

Hawk -

More waste to cut.

Nice. A solid "who's who" list of much needed departures and positional acquisitions.

I wouldn't call Boykin a waste, but I agree with the list on who should be gone by next season.

Tramon should be gone too, but we have no other CB that brings the amount of physicality /aggression /attitude that Tramon brings. 1. Shields 2. House 3. Hayward/Hyde just doesn't sound/look right now.

I had high hopes for Bostick. I liked him a lot. I thought he was on his way to have a very productive season until he got injured in the preseason. He never was the same player after that.

This move basically tells me that the Packers will be drafting a TE at some point in the draft. This could very well include Maxx Williams in the 1st round. Definitely someone to watch during the combine.

No chance the Pack draft a TE in the 1st round. Mark my words.

Cow once told me that Bostic was the next Jermichael Finley. He also predicted that the Packers were going to go 8-8 this year as opposed to being one play away from the SB. Happy that guy is no longer here.

Let the kid go and get a fresh start somewhere else besides, I'm sure the Vikings will claim him ASAP.

Actually Rick Spielman doesn't use late round or undrafteds but rather finds good quality free agents to fill a particular hole and trades guys with value like Jared Allen and gets top draft picks for.
The Vikes had two first round picks last year and three the year before. The quality of that team is reaching playoff level. They will not have a Bostick. Too stupid to learn the playbook.

"The quality of that team is reaching playoff level. "

I'm sure the Panthers and Lions are looking over their shoulders.

ALL those picks you traded for haven't produced even a winning record. Patterson is another Jacoby Jones at best. The Packers are always drafting in the high 20's, the Vikings in the top 10, pretty hard to screw that up.

BTW...You didn't Trade Allen, don't you even know your own football team?

That is hilarious. I'm sure Imma / Cow and all the other resident Viking fans are already thinking about jumping into the Fox River...

We only have 3 TE's now. Mcarthy is typically only comfortable 6-7. Something is wrong here...

Geez..

My worst fantasy pickup ever.

Any chance TT goes after the TE Thomas from Denver?

I know, I'm dreaming..

The cut has not made the NFL.com transactions page yet. I'm holding out hope that we'll also see Hawk & Jones when it finally does.

Lets see the young man is posting that he believes he is being let go. Well at least he can say he got one thing right in his short career.

Just another example of TT's draft and development failure. Way too many Brian Bosticks passing through Green Bays doors. Time TT uses his money wisely and gets some free agents with experience.

Draft and development failure, except Bostick was signed as an *undrafted* free agent...

But yeah, keep enlightening us.

One man's "draft and development failure" is another man's diamond in the rough. Of course, in this case one man = Ted Thompson and another man = Rick Spielman.

Enjoy Bostick in purple, Imma. This will surely push them from "approaching playoff quality" to "legitimate playoff contender at least until the regular season begins".

I feel bad about piling on with this one...oh who am I kidding? I don't feel bad. It's impossible to feel bad when you're laughing as hard as I am now.

I don't personally think much of 5'11 linebackers. You need speed and size to help stop the tight end over the middle. Way too easy for QB's to pass over the top of the shorter guys is all I'm saying so a few don't make it on my board. If I'm right these guys will be available at 30 as the bigger taller guys are already gone.

Ted may be better off going defensive back or DL and getting ILB help in the other rounds.

Why do you keep telling us what the Packers need? We win! Worry about the Queens. I know, figure out why Greg Jennings went from a All Pro to a Unknown in 2 years.
