Surviving Sunday: Packers news, notes and links for the football deprived

What is there left to say about Brett Favre that hasn't already been said in the last week?

Or during Favre's 20 seasons in the NFL?

Or after a game where Favre led the Packers to a victory?

Or after a game where a Favre interception resulted in a nauseating Packers defeat?

Or during the divorce of 2008?

Or during that ride to Vikings headquarters with Brad Childress?

Or during an off-field episode that made us laugh, cry or wince?

Or during the sometims awkward reconcilliation with the Packers over the last couple of years?

Or during yesterday's ceremony at Lambeau Field?

I sat down to put a bow on the entire week of Favre festivities in Green Bay, but I soon realized that there wasn't anything left to say. It's all already been said.

Now we can sit back and enjoy having Brett Favre back in the Packers family again.

Welcome back, Brett. That's all that needs to be said.

Packers news, notes and links

  • Favre ceremony link(s).........
  • The Packers "One of a Kind" Favre special was great. It's posed on Packers.com, so if you haven't watched it yet, be sure to check it out.
  • This is an outstanding piece from Pete Dougherty at the Green Bay Press-Gazette: Brett Favre in 6 signature plays.
  • Peter King shares a few inside stories from the Packers-Favre divorce in 2008. My takeaway from the piece was that Thompson seemed to never even waiver and stood firm that the Packers were moving on from Favre.
  • Some of my fellow bloggers shared their thoughts on Favre this week. Here's Kris Burke at Acme Packing Company on forgiving No. 4. 'Ol Bag of Donuts says he is "numb" to Favre. CHTV's Aaron Nagler has one last lecture for the Favre haters.
  • In non-Favre news, could the Packers play in London in 2016?  I'm all for it if it means they'll play on Sunday morning. When the Falcons and Lions played on Sunday morning last season from London, it was great. Wake up, plop on couch, watch foodball, watch more football, watch even more football, end the night with more football.
  • Who knew that Justin Timberlake is the quarterback for the Packers?
  • Interested in what made a Favre Super fan become one? Great story here from PackersTalk.com's John Rehor:
  • The From the Benches podcast returns with an episode on the return of Brett Favre.
  • Really cool pictures from the Lambeau Favre Celebration, where Brett Favre received a 5-minute standing ovation.
  • One really cool side note from the HOF ceremony was Bart Starr Jr. telling people that his Dad is making progress and plans to attend the Thanksgiving Game honoring Brett.

Non-Packers links and other nonsense

  • Washington Post food columnists Tamar Haspel writes 1,300 beautiful words about one of my favorite things: corn.
  • Here's a fascinating read on a journalist who lives in hiding after writing a best-selling book about the mafia. Both the book and the movie are really good.
  • I often have a hard time falling asleep (I blame last season's NFC title game), so this series on sleep piqued my interest.
  • There are some great new metal records coming out in the near future. Another new Lamb of God track is out, this one features Chino Moreno from Deftones making a guest appearance. And the bass in Ghost's new one is really freaking sweet.

Always make this my first Sunday morning read, thanks Adam! Hope corn prices improve over last year. Peter King is a pompous NBC windbag. There's no way he knows more than the Packers beat writers of that era.

My comment about King was out of line because I don't personally know him. I should have said he appears to be a pompous windbag. He may be the greatest guy on earth.

My opinion is swayed by the entire NBC Sunday night crews' television personas. Costas is as pompous as you can get, Dan Patrick is approaching Costas status, Florio repeats what is on PFT (actually a good info source), and even good guy Tony Dungy is becoming insufferable. Rodney Harrison is the only likable guy in the group. Thankfully Al Michaels and Collinsworth put on a good game broadcast.

Corn prices have been up a tick in recent weeks. What we really need are land rents and input prices to come back down to earth a bit.

Thanks for the reply Adam! Most folks have no idea how high the input prices are for corn and other crops. Growing up on a small farm, we used most of our corn to feed our hogs. Now that my parents are gone, the folks that rent our little 132 acres are doing a great job (1/3 - 2/3 split). I'll never forget Daddy filling up that anhydrous ammonia tank to put on the corn. That stuff will take your breathe away!
