Surviving Sunday: Packers news, notes and links for the football deprived

Dear Packers draft picks and undrafted free agents:

Welcome to the Packers and the beautiful city of Green Bay. As a Packers blogger, I wanted to write you this open letter to help you better prepare for your life as a member of the Green Bay Packers, the greatest franchise in all of sports.

The first thing you should know about the Packers is that their fans are insane. We're completely nuts. Totally off the rails.

We schedule things like baptisms and family functions on Sundays around Packers games. If we're out deer hunting on a Sunday (I can teach you about the virtues of deer hunting in a future letter), we fight about which hunter gets to stay near the truck so he or she can listen to the Packers while waiting for that 30-point buck to creep out of the woods.

The stadium you'll be playing at, Lambeau Field, is sold out for like the next 75 years. That doesn't stop people like me -- unfortunate souls who do not posses season tickets -- from spending hundreds of dollars on the secondary market to go to a game every now and then. If we can't make it to the stadium, Packers games are typically some of the highest rated on television. Lots of alcoholic beverages and grilled foods are consumed during Packers games, either in the parking lots surrounding Lambeau, bars throughout Wisconsin or in our own living rooms.

Like I said, we're insane -- but insane in a good way. Sure, you'll get a handful of Packers "fans" who Tweet mean things at you following a loss or, gasp, boo if the team is not playing well at home. Pay no mind to those people. They're just trolling. As long as we ignore them, they eventually retreat back into their basements to watch re-runs of "Full House."

You also might get a blogger like me who says a few snarky things on social media during games or takes a shot or two at the team in a blog post. Again, just ignore us. We still love you, but sometimes we feel the need to practice tough love, be critical, and crank the sarcasm and bewilderment up to 11 (especially when your head coach calls a fullback dive on 3rd and 1 or Richard Rodgers gets taken down immediately by a 150-pound cornerback on that silly 2-yard out route).

If you're looking for a good place to eat in Green Bay, Ryan Longwell recommends Applebee's. Personally, I prefer a place called The Green Bay Distillery (try the cheese curd burger). An even better option is to make friends with someone from Wisconsin who hunts or farms. Almost everyone in Wisconsin hunts and/or farms. Nothing beats fresh meat from a hunter or farmer's freezer, especially when you wash it down with a Spotted Cow and talking/complaining about the Packers.

Yes, sometimes we complain about the Packers around the dinner table or bonfire. It's not a big deal. We want you to go 16-0 every season, so on the rare and unfortunate ocassions when you lose a game, we express our misguided displeasure. Like I said, we're insane, but in a loving way.

If you're looking for good Packers blogs to read, you'll find none better than CheeseheadTV (yes, I'm biased). One request: Don't block any CHTV writers on Twitter if we write something critical of your play or the team. Remember, it all comes from a place of love, even the snark.

Other Packers blogs you should add to your bookmarks include Acme Packing Company, PackersTalk,  and LombardiAve. I know there are other great Packers blogs out there that I am forgetting to list, so check those out as well so they don't get too upset with me.

Oh, and you should totally make time to appear on a podcast called Packer Transplants. It's hosted by the two crazy Packers dudes who founded this site after making the misguided decision to relocate from Wisconsin to New York. Here's a picture of Corey, one of the hosts. He might be even a little more insane than the rest of us, but still in a good way.

That about wraps up what you need to know about the Packers, their fans and the bloggers who write about you and your new team. We cant wait to cheer for you on Sundays and welcome you to the Packers family. If you ever leave Green Bay for another team, just make sure it isn't the Vikings or Bears. Then we might have issues.

Sincerely,

Adam Czech

PS -- Remind me some time to tell you about the legend of Jeff Janis.......

Love Spotted Cow! Anything from New Glarus is real good, except for those misguided attempts to mix fruit and beer...

Hope all is well. I'm still in a glorious mood after this draft, which I think brought a few starters or at least key backups. Thanks Ted!

What a great letter to welcome the newest members of the Green Bay Packers. I think you covered everything quite well and even warned them of our rants on Monday Mornings after a rare loss. Best yet you seem to be in "Good Spirits" so I hoping that's because you're feeling better, Baby Czech has graced your home, and the Packers had a good draft. Thanks Adam!!

The Packers had a good solid draft.
I can't wait to get down to Lambeau Field to enjoy another Packers game.
I'll be stopping at Woodmans to pick up a few cases of Totally Naked, a great beer by New Glarus.
Best wishes Adam!

Letter is os good that I wished to attend draft next season and become Packer! Well, that would be hilarious as I would become the oldest drafted player ever!

No kid yet. We thought he'd arrive early, now he's 3 days late. Might be for the best as this chemo round has me knocked down. But I'm ready!
