I read a recent article by McGinn, I think, predicting the final roster, and there was a quote at the end of the special teams section where he said the Packers were probably better off getting rid of a potentially divisive personality in Mandell. That's the only time I ever saw anything like that written. Not sure the story behind it, but Masthay is making me real nervous, as are special teams on the whole once again. Seems we go through the same crap every year.

We don't know for sure that it's the ACL torn. Let's hope it is a sprain or partial tear or the PCL/MCL.

That's what I keep hoping for Bearmeat. That injury just pissed me off yesterday. I keep telling myself IF it's a season ender the Packers will be able to do it with who they have. Nelson just does those things no other WR does on the Packers roster. He is without a doubt the BEST WR on the sidelines in the NFL.

It was a non-contact injury so it could have happened at any time, during a practice or regular season game. Like you and Nick Perry, I'm hoping for the best and that it's not as serious as originally reported. Go Pack! Thanks, Since '61

What's with Masthay?? There is no excuse coming out of offseason and training camp competition (if there was such). I think he 'costs' GB 15 yards of field position on average, and that is unacceptable. What do punters do in practice all day in practice? Maybe punt, and strengthening? Er what else? All day, all season for years....., and then we all have to sweat everytime he goes to punt wondering if it will be a line drive for 48 yards and 15 yards return. As it appears we're stuck for another season of just that, I'm hoping for more 4th and 2 with Masthay on the sidelines.

Time to cut Barclay and find one off of someone's practice squad.

I liked Barrington. Elliot. Gunter.

D-line was porous at times, stout at times. I dunno what to think about it. Not that impressed though. I see what the steelers have done in 3 years to overhaul their front 7, and its impressive. Then to look at their receiving corps...which rivals..., well, I guess I should say, rivaled GB.

Ugh, Jordy. What a loss. I'll be chippy and argumentive all day Monday.

I agree with your observation of D-line... When it was good you had B. J. and Mike on the field. Otherwise not so good!

And I think that Packers should find another punter!

I think I have to put both Masthay and Barclay on borderline ugly. Harrison beat Barclay so badly that Barclay was on his knees when Rodgers got hit in like 2.2 seconds. Harrison is now 37 or 38 years old, hardly a premier pass rusher anymore. I would certainly hope between Barclays play last week and yesterday MM and TT know Barclay is not a NFL Tackle. Period!

I don't know what happened to Masthay, his ability to pin opposing teams inside the 20 seems to be long gone. If Mandell was cut because he was being out punted by Masthay or Crosby was missing FG attempts fine, I understand that. But common Ted, bring in someone else, Masthay is not getting any better.

The loss of Nelson could have a silver lining. Rodgers will now have to look for his 2nd and 3rd options more frequently. That will mean more time in the pocket. IF the oline can stand up to that pressure, the team will be looking at more passes distributed to players like Lacy (for the quick outlet) Rodgers, the TE, and Montgomery. That makes the offense a lot harder to defend. Instead of shutting down Nelson, those throws will be going to a lot of different players. The biggest issue is time in the pocket. When Rodgers has the time, it really won’t matter who catches the ball.

Early in his career, Favre had to certainly learn to look other places than just at Sharpe every play. But I don't think Rodgers ever had this problem.

I wondered why they cut Mandell when Masthay wasn't punting all that well. I never heard that rumor that he had a divisive personality but kickers and punters can be assholes just like any other player. Remember that kicker for the Colts, Vanderjagt? Peyton Manning publicly said he was a Grade-A prick and they finally had to cut him. I also heard that Chris Jacke was a prima donna and got on people's nerves.

There's also the field-goal-holding aspect of it. If Mandell averaged ten yards more on his punts than Masthay, I'm still not sure that that would be worth a few more missed field goals.

What has Rollins done to you to put him in the same group as Barclay and Masthay if you do want a third player to go in bad my suggestion would be Vaughters for the dumbest play of the game.

It would be amazingly ironic (and yes, unlikely) if Randy Moss were the "Next Man Up".

But still...

I'd rather have Finley before Moss.

Nate Palmer easily gets filed under "bad", for me, and there's not much he can do to get out of my doghouse. He just doesn't have it. He has yet to do one single thing on the field that justifies any of the articles (elsewhere, not here) that were written in the offseason about him possibly having a measureable impact.

I know he's got a cast on, but if this is the way he's going to play with a cast on then nobody needs to see it. Sit him until he's healthy and try again.

Watch the Steeler's first TD scoring drive again. I believe it was Palmer badly missing on a wide-open sack because he has no body control. The announcers praised Big Ben for a shifty move in the pocket, but he barely moved at all. Palmer was simply careless. The same sort of lack of awareness and carelessness paired with athleticism that Brad Jones drove us all crazy with, constantly.

Either the very next play or the play after, he badly misses a tackle that he's in good position for vs the running back. A couple plays later he's trailing the TE in coverage, who catches a first down pass to take the Steelers to the goal line.

It was the same sort of pathetic performance you would see from Jones - an entire drive that, despite football being a team sport, you could almost pin solely on one person.

He doesn't have it, and I hope the coaches see that too. Not very often that I have this strong of an opinion, but we just cut Brad Jones and have Brad Jones 2.0 right behind him.

I should add, thank heavens Barrington and CMIII are our starting ILBs. God help us, should anything happen to them.

Most of Don Barclay's experience and success has come at RT. He excells in run-blocking, not pass-protection. He has consistantly played well the last 3 years, and offers extra value with his positional versitility. He's played 1 game since coming back from injury. Starting him at the mostly unfamiliar and difficult position of LT, protecting the franchise's blindside, was a risky and poor coaching decision. Bryan Bulaga should have started at left tackle.

Ugly:
Clinton Dix filled the hole unblocked, went 1 on 1 with Leveon Bell between the tackles, and barely got a finger on him. Dix may have racked up some hawkesk tackles, but he consistantly chokes it in the open-field.

As tough as Nelsons injury is, we'll still be alright. My biggest concern on making it to the SB and winning it is the defense. IMO, most championships are won with a top rated defense. Hope they can tighten things up this year and become a top 10 defense. Mathews has to stay healthy.
