Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced seven players will not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans.
The seven players are headlined by safety Morgan Burnett, an incumbent starter on the Packers defense.
Joining Burnett are tackle Don Barclay (torn ACL), wide receiver Jared Abbrederis (torn ACL), tight end Colt Lyerla (knee), defensive linemen Jerel Worthy (lower back) and Letroy Guion (hamstring) and safety Tanner Miller (ankle).
Not only will they not be playing on Saturday, they will not even make the trip with the rest of the team.
Burnett is dealing with a strained oblique muscle that forced him to miss practice on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
For the time being, Burnett's injury has opened the door to Micah Hyde and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix as the first-string tandem in the Green Bay secondary, although McCarthy still views Burnett as a starter.
"Morgan's going through a situation right now medically, and he'll come back from it, and he'll jump right back in there," said McCarthy.
McCarthy also said he's hopeful that Burnett will be able to return next week.
