Great to see MLF game plan work without, the constant interruption of "hero ball crap." The flow, momentum and continuation of offensive series was refreshing. I am sure MLF was having a good time. The team speed and energy level is contagious, very supportive of teammates.
The defense looked fast & aggressive. Lots of team tackling. Promising hard nose playing. No Kevin King crap. And this is pre-season,..bring on those bears. GPG!!

Watched the Packers game and now watching the Jets - Giants game. Rodgers had some laser like passes and threw a sweet TD pass for 6 on his 2d (and final) series for the night. (Respectfully, Love isn't in the same time zone as Rodgers). In between, the Jets defense is dominating. That said, I have to agree that Packers fans are better off without Rodgers' "hero ball". But I do love to watch him play. GPG!

As great as Rodgers was and still is I'm glad he's gone. The guy is a head case. Anyone who tries to "find something" or whatever the hell with drugs will always be a head case. His time in Green Bay was over in his mind and we never would have won another title with him here. We have a better chance for another title with Love being a good to very good QB running LaFleur's offense. That's with the defense playing up to their very high potential.

My heart goes out to my brothers & sisters here who were unable to see our last preseason game with SEA. Thoughts off top of my head:

It was about as expected, and then not, which is in fact, expected. SEA presented a fairly even match, despite Locke starting at QB and for roughly 3Q…

SEA had RB juice flowing early, and, I’ll be damned if GB didn’t shut it down when it mattered most! Good to see.

Thought our O was solid with the 1s. Packers run O looks punishing there. Watson snagged a TOO EASY back shoulder TD from Love to complete Love’s day on his 3rd drive for a 9-0 score. Rock solid. Heath made some plays with the 1s, then had his 1st drop of preseason. Musgrave with a big 1D. Reed delivered. Dillon carried the 1s, as Aaron Jones didn’t play.

#1 D ALL HATS ON THE BALL - like we haven’t seen in more than a decade. Kenny Clark showed up big with noticeable help from Slaton, who also had a nice showing. Those two were dialed in.

So was Andres Carlson, making the longest FG at Lambeau for the Packers from 57 yds out. Period. Made it look easy. Also nailed a 43 yd FG early. Extra Point blocked was not on Carlson, but a great play by a SEA gunner. O’Donnell w the hold. Thinking Whelan wins P job.

Brooks, Wooden, LVN, Cox Jr., Valentine, Johnson Jr., McDuffie, Ballentine and Sapp III with great showings on D. All should make this roster. SJC too, if memory serves. Wilson ran with 2s, and had virtually NO HOLES to run through most of his tenure. Made the most of it despite that w +63 yds rushing(?)… Patrick Taylor looked sharp in his limited opportunities. They battled hard and would love to see all 4 RBs make this team.

Haven’t reviewed. Watched for pure fun. And, fun it was!

Newman… that dud is gone. Not a spell check error.

Cheers, friends!

I completely forgot the Packers made Rasheed Walker, Malik Heath and Patrick Taylor starters.

Said no one ever.

McDuffie? Not a starter. Van Ness? Not a starter. Valentine? Not a starter.

When Aaron Jones starts in something other than vanilla we can talk. It was preseason, and you can only play who is in front of you. Two rookie TEs. Aside from Kraft’s false start, AND his missed chip on the SEA CB on the blocked PAT, I thought they played well. The Packers scored on 2 of their first 3 drives. Things could have gone better, but I found that encouraging.

We got both Jones and Dillon hurt in 2 playoff games and ML shut the run game down because of it. However, We have more WR horses to take that to task from now on...and we did not before. 3 RB minimum on the 53 unless NFL has some beneficial practice roster protection. Dillon or Jones may be gone in 24'...better to keep one who knows the play book for next season.

SH,

you don't at all know that nobody would poach Wilson#31. I think this game made it less likely, but he still showed up ok. The problem was lack of run blocking when he was ineffective, while Myers was at C. Still significant stats, without any wow play.

#27 Patrick Taylor? I think he'd likely be safe on the PS. If he doesn't make the roster that could be the reason rather than any intention for the season. Goodson #39 could be seen as injured because he's undersized and therefore also safe on our PS. Nichols isn't undersized but recent injury might have the same effect. WR & RB are where we have so much depth it's hard to see how we might use them all except to trade for positions we need now which would be much better than draft picks IMHO.

Guys who make 80 yard plays are always in demand.

Totally agree and I think we keep 4, which helps both 2023 and 2024, given there’s no telling how Dillon’s contract situation works into our cap with Love, Gary, Bak getting extended.

How many times did Wilson have to hit a hole w Newman the blocking assignment yesterday? A LOT.

This won't be popular, but I like Wilson to Practice Squad.
If he doesn't clear waivers, he doesn't clear waivers.

He looked really good- impressive even- in limited time vs. other teams backups. He's an explosive runner, but we saw little from him in pass pro, receiving out of the backfield, and/or ST contributions. He's a project back at this point, and I think Taylor is ahead of him... and I don't think he's so impressive that he warrants a 4th roster spot at RB.

I like him.. but not enough to spend a roster spot on him.

Doubs didn’t play. With the exception of Heath, the starting catchers dropped far too many early on to let Love or the O get any rhythm. That has to improve. Heath showed why he was getting snaps with Love. He strikes me as a more talented Lazard as a catcher and equally physical. Dillon looks energized, a different proposition. So does Kenny Clark. Both players could be in for a big year.

One thing that has been consistent is the lack of yards per attempt. That doesn’t matter in preseason, the drops magnify it too. However, that can’t be a signature of our O this year as it was of LaFleur’s impotent O last year. Over to you Matt.

Oh brother. Safety sucks. Our best performers might be Sapp and Tyrelle Ford, who isn’t really a safety. No one else earned a spot on play that we saw today. The same can be said of Newman. While Rhyan I thought played well, we have to find a second viable back up G.

Overall, this was a decent showing against a good D and an O starting a veteran back up and second team catchers, but we have jugs time needed by starters and some serious pro player work on G and S options.

LL,

starting out with air raid attack with this much inexperience would be flirting with disaster. TEs consistently making 8-11 yard plays wins games. RBs consistently making plays of at least 4 yards wins games. Converting third downs wins games, even if #28's avg ypc is 1.5 it's his conversion rate that matters more if that's how he's used.

Targeting the open man wins games. #9 was double teamed, JL10 made a beautiful throw and Watson did everything right, near the goal line. He was still steamrolled out of the play.

After the passing game gets established behind a solid O line and everybody gels? Ok maybe an air raid offense will work, this season even. Need to go for the high probability plays before then.

Very true!

What I call the MVS role is he spread the opposing defense whether he was targeted or not. His career reception rate has been 50%, last I checked. His route tree consisted of straight line speed, until his last half a season in GB.

#9 starts out better in both categories, with a speed difference of .01 on a 40 yard dash; functionally identical.

The MVS role is unchanged, I'd like to see JL10 only target him when he's actually open. Maybe not even taking time to look for him or let the play develop until our O line establishes dominant protection and the passing game gels. Checkdowns for 8-11 yard gains win games! If Musgrave develops that kind of midfield chemistry with Love, he'll always be a serious force. MLF should be able to scheme guys open, even if the roster were to start with only 4 WRs.

I still hope to see Kraft focus on blocking until he excels at it. If he then adds some playmaking ability? Our offense should be unstoppable.

The Best way to stop the drops is sprints. As soon as they are done sprinting they go to the front of the line for the next rep. That shit will not last long and they will be laser focused. That's what our Championship baseball coach did in H.S., when we were batting....It works....and you get in great shape..before you are 100% locked in....LOL. You can do the same with the DB's dropping would be picks.

Just go over many of our great WR’s and you will find they missed more in the beginning of their year than later. It was a decision the packers made. it's hard to compare Lazard 6'5 227 to Heath 6'2 213. Lazard's 40 was also 4.55, while Heath is 4.64; hopefully his "game time speed" is better but I haven't seen that. Yet Heath is our heaviest and slowest WR. It's wild seeing him be effective. Reception rate barely over 50% this game didn't really help his cause.

It's funny how when there were four preseason games, the last one was meaningless, and now that there are three, the last one is still meaningless. Well, not completely meaningless of course, but it felt a lot less consequential than the first two games.

The first string offense did the same thing it did in the first two games: start slow and eventually generate a TD. It seemed like kind of an empty exercise to me--probably less intense than a typical practice session. We already knew that the offense can function on this basic level. A bad performance would've been concerning, while the mostly good performance that they turned in felt more like they were just holding serve. It's time for a real game--after what will be an excruciating two-week wait.

Malik Heath looked like he belonged, but we already knew that. I love how he reaches out and snatches the ball out of the air. "That's MY ball," he seems to be saying. I noticed a contrast with Samori Toure, who stood there and let the ball come to him. One of them got knocked away by a defender. I still think Toure will make the team, but Heath very well may have passed him up for the #4 WR spot. Grant Dubose had one catch, I think. He'll probably be safe if they put him on the practice squad. Dontayvion Wicks should make the roster as the #6 WR if healthy.

The safeties are looking like a mess. Let's get ready to watch opposing offenses attack the deep middle against our defense.

Royce Newman is lost and needs to be cut. Two penalties today, and both were really blatant: a false start and a hold. There has to be a better guard somewhere on the waiver wire after cut-downs, unless they want to just roll with Sean Rhyan as the backup and either put him in or move Zach Tom inside if there is an injury.

It was great to see Anders Carlson kicking with authority. I think O'Donnell is punting slightly better than Whelan, but maybe they should keep Whelan anyway. He's young, and he should improve.

I'm eagerly awaiting the cut-downs on Tuesday. There are always some surprises, and there really are a lot of bubble players this year.

Re: Meaningless last preseason game

There were a few articles out there this offseason about joint practices incorporating other teams as being seen by a small number of coaches across the league as being sufficient for preparing their team for the regular season in lieu of the full compliment of preseason games now.

It's a big reason why we saw two weeks of joint practices in Green Bay this year as opposed to one week we've seen sprinkled in over the last decade between McCarthy and now LaFleur.

More and more teams are jumping on that wagon. It will be interesting to see if the extended joint practices will translate to better preparedness for the regular season. Of course, it will be hard to tell this year in comparison, because It's been a long, long time- maybe BEFORE Favre - since we've seen so many reps for the starting offense and QB in preseason- be it three or four games.

Oppy,

gang fights being both normal and accepted as normal during joint practices is a serious problem. So is the potential for players being fined 10x their weekly pay at that time of year. So is hits violating the agreed upon rules not being called or reviewed such as our Pats game. 9 injuries the first two games, that rate is not sustainable. Fortunately no injuries against Seattle.

Room for improvement.

I always wonder just how bubble players there are versus the coaches knowing before pre season game 3 who is making the 53. My take, it's practice that these decisions are really made and not game play.
Tre Lance for example wasn't very good in practice. Wonder how many like him we have? Also why do teams pick up the cut guys for practice squad versus looking at what's available? Sure our guys know the system , so what practice guys aren't going to play any new guys would have plenty of time to learn it.
