Rodgers on Finley: "The Packers Are Better with Jermichael on It"
The Packers quarterback commented on the free agent tight end during a recent interview.
During an interview with WBAY-TV in Green Bay on Friday, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers commented on free agent tight end Jermichael Finley, who reportedly met with the Packers team doctor earlier in the week:
"Unlike Nick Collins and Jonathan Franklin, I think he has an opportunity to get cleared," Rodgers is quoted as saying. "Now that's just my own guess, that has zero medical anything behind it, but I think there is potential for him to get cleared, which means he would want to play. The NFL is better with Jermichael in it, and the Packers are better with Jermichael on it."
Finley suffered a bruised spinal cord last season and underwent subsequent spinal fusion surgery.
As a free agent, Finley is free to sign with any team he chooses, but as of yet, no team has been willing to either clear him medically or pay him his desired amount of money.
Finley apparently received offers from the Pittsburgh Steelers but hinted that he desired more money.
It's perhaps interesting that Rodgers feels Finley has a better chance to get cleared than Collins and Franklin. The placement of Collins' and Finley's surgeries took place at the same place between the C3 and C4 vertebrae.
There's been no reports on the discussions that took place between Finley and Packers doctor Pat McKenzie earlier in the week.

What would one expect him to say....He has no chance to get cleared medically and both the NFL and the Packers are fine without him.

Seems pretty out of character for him to say something like that. I would have expected something on the order of: "Well, at this point it's up to the doctors. If he is healthy enough to play of course we'd welcome him back."

I would say that it is completely "in-character" for AR to say this about his fellow players. In fact I'm pretty sure he's said this about every player who has left in that last few years.

I agree with the part about being supportive of his teammates. The part that seems odd is where he says "I think he has a chance to be cleared" but then quickly says that is just a guess and that there is nothing medical behind it.

Sounds like he really wants to play. If he's cleared, he'll be playing somewhere. I doubt there will be any loyalty to the Packers, as usual it'll come down to who will pay more.
