Report: Packers Hosting Free Agent DL Al Woods on Visit

The former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman is scheduled to be in Green Bay on Thursday.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean:

Woods will be entering his sixth season in the NFL in 2014 but is still relatively young, currently just 25 years old.

Short on experience, Woods has played in just 39 games in his first five seasons, making a total of 38 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He received the most playing playing him of his career this past season, however, appearing in all 16 games for the Steelers while making 16 tackles and two sacks.

Coming from Pittsburgh, Woods also has experience in their 3-4 defensive system and could provide depth at the position should players like B.J. Raji, Ryan PIckett, Johnny Jolly and C.J. Wilson leave in free agency.

At 6-4 and 307 lbs., Woods is listed as a nose tackle but might have the versatility to be ability to play multiple positions along the defensive line.

Woods was a fourth round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints in 2010 but was cut before the start of the season. He latched on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he spent the rest of his rookie year.

In 2011, Woods was cut by the Bucanners and then joined the Seattle Seahawks, playing in two games. He's been with the Steelers for the past three seasons.

Wow in the league 5 years that's 80 games, he averages less then 1/2 tackle a game or a sack every 30 games. Thanks TT for getting us a difference maker. If it wasn't for Rodgers you would have been gone a long time ago. Oh and by the way , anyone who argues that my numbers are off because he only played in 39 games in 5 years your right. He only played in 39 games because he's not that good. Don't let that bother you he comes real cheap, just what TT is looking for.TT must have the first penny he got from the tooth fairy.

Great Job on 'The Big 1070' Brian.

I really like Deone Bucannon. I think he might be a sleeper pick in the 1st round.

It definitely makes you wonder why the Steelers, who run a 3-4 and are in desperate need of cheap young defensive talent, would let him walk.

He looks fatter than 307. Sign a bunch, bring em to camp, let em fight it out. Its really fun to read people scream about FA . Last year everyone had to have Stephen Jackson. How'd that work out. If you went by production from last years draft, Eddie Lacy should have been the 1st overall pick. TT traded back in the 2nd and got him. GENIUS. Plus there's better safeties in the 1st 2 rounds in the draft. TT will take 1. GENIUS. Dontae Jones will make a big 2nd year jump, GENIUS. O-Line in loaded, GENIUS. Lots of $$$$$ to lock up Jordy and Cobb, GENIUS.

Packers fought off #Cardinals RT @mneal96: Hi Green Bay!!! I'll enjoy your winters for two more years!!

Looks like Mike Neal is staying for 2 more years.
I think its a good move. Neal will be one more year in playing OLB/DE role. I would expect a better year for him.

Hey idiot fan. You probably know yourself well thus picking that name. You'll be waiting a very long time before TT signs anyone mentioned in that article. Not using free agency is nuts. This year we would need twice the number of draft picks to fill all the holes. Maybe we can sign some more CFL stars like M.D. Jennings. THAT WORKED OUT GREAT. Every other team can sign top free agents under the cap but us Bull shit. His stepson Ask Vic does a great job of selling TT bullshit.

You mean the guys who got injured and played injured. If you have a job( highly doubtful) try doing it with a broken leg or foot. Sober up before you post from now on.

The Packers definitely need to add a NT. It is a vital position in the 3-4 defense. Right now, it appears that they would be using Josh Boyd and Mike Daniels.

I sure hope you're right.

Also, I hope they give some consideration toward bringing in Terrence Cody, Cam Thomas, and Antonio Johnson for a look as they're all big body NT-types who aren't very old and shouldn't break the proverbial bank.

Gary no one really cares what you think! Go take a cold shower, and grab a spelling book. "Are" should be "our" in your latest illiterate post. If you can't post without burning those you disagree with, then do us all a favor and just keep silent. And maybe you should do the Packers a favor and offer your services to them as a special assistant to Ted. I'm someone of your obvious intellectual genius would be welcomed with open arms.

For all the draft and develop lovers check out National Football Post. The packers rank near the bottom in draft efficiency since 2006. No free agents from TT, bad draft choices, leaves only Rodgers to cover up a very mediocre team.

Nelson, Cobb, CMIII, Bulaga, Shields, Williams, Finley, Lacy, Sitton, Lang, James Jones, Hyde, Hayward, Starks, Crosby, Masthay, Raji (pro bowl once), Boykin, EDS, the book is out on Sherrod, Worthy, Perry, D Jones. Stick your NFL football post up your ass. And of course Rodgers. I still think Burnett will be a good safety, IMO.
