Report: Packers DL Letroy Guion Arrested for Firearm, Marijuana Possession
Guion was arrested Tuesday in his native Florida and charged with two felony counts after a routine traffic stop.
Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Letroy Guion has been arrested for marijuana possession in Florida, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com:
Filed to ESPN: #Packers DT Letroy Guion was arrested last night on possession of marijuana, Stake, Fla. police confirm. Details to come.
— Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) February 4, 2015
Per Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette via Twitter, Guion was also in felony possession of a firearm.
There's been no word whether Guion has failed a drug test.
Guion filled the void at nose tackle for the Packers during the 2014 season when B.J. Raji was lost for the season and placed on injured reserve with a torn biceps during training camp.
Along with Julius Peppers, Guion became one of the few free agents the Packers have pursued under general manager Ted Thompson in recent years.
According to a report, also from Demovsky, Guion had been involved in talks on a contract extension with the Packers as of late December.
Both Guion and Raji are set to become unrestricted free agents in March.
The bigger impact of Guion's arrest may be the influence it has on his chance of re-signing with the Packers or the dollar value he commands.
If convicted, it's possible Guion will be subject to the league's conduct and/or drug policy and possible suspension.
Both policies received updates in the 2014 calendar year in light of high-profile domestic abuse and drug cases involving NFL players.
Guion becomes the first Packers player that was knowingly arrested since Erik Walden in 2011.
In 2014, Guion started all 16 regular-season games, making a career-high 32 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
From Demovsky:
From #Packers: We are aware of a serious matter involving Letroy Guion. We have not yet spoken to Letroy and we will have no further comment

Hopefully this turns out to be minor and Guion comes back. He was a nice addition. However, I can't see TT and MM letting this slide.

on 2nd thought, is 357 grams and $190K in cash a lot?

February 04, 2015 at 09:32 pm
357 grams is just short of a pound. It's a lot of weed. A whole lot. But not so much that he's definitely engaging in distribution as opposed to a boatload of consumption.
The money part definitely points to distribution.
Either way, he's got legal issues and then faces discipline from the NFL. Not a good way to start his FA year.

You guys hit it right on the head here. Its got to be Guin or Raji. Why even consider the freekin remote possiblitiy that someone else out there can actually play the position.
But then were talked TT who thought fat ass Datone Jones -really a one pick, could pass rush and Perry - oh please had the speed to be a linebacker.

Dude, you need professional help. Seriously. And BTW, your Vikings would take all of the guys you listed gladly. Guion came from there, remember?

Why do you come here and talk that dribble? You just sound and look so foolish trying to knock a team that beats the Vikings down year in and year out, wins the division each year, won a SB, should have won another, yet you come here and talk smack like the Packers are on the downswing. Sorry Bubba but the Packers are going to be even better next year, even with "Fat Ass" Datone and "Slow Ass" Perry, because they are both better than "Old and Overpriced" Jennings and "I can run fast in a straight line but can't catch" Cordelle Patterson.

Wow, not a bright thing to do, Letroy.
Packers were probably already planning on drafting a NT anyway, though. Wouldn't mind seeing the Iowa kid in Green & Gold.

Apparently the Iowa kid has a really bad attitude he doesn't want to practice and he only wants to play 20 snaps a game.

The street value of the pot is probably less that $5K. Compare this amount against the nearly $200K 'seized' and you could say that he just keeps his money in cash. And .75 pounds is not really a lot. But I agree with most - not too smart, and I don't think Ted will bring him back.

In the big scheme of things, it's not that much, unfortunately though, it's enough to bring up felony charges... as well as the gun.
Being in the PNW... we smoke that on our lunch break.

Yeah, the thing that makes me think that he might be back is the fact that QB1 (and presumably others) thought he was an amazing teammate, much like Jolly. Honestly, I don't really care about the pot. But the firearm is a bit troubling.
murphy
February 05, 2015 at 11:01 am
I'm not sure why an unloaded and cased firearm is a bit troubling, in the absence of any evidence that it was possessed or used illegally (aside from the "used in the commission of a felony" stack-on charge).
Most states allow for legal concealed carry with the right license and/or qualifications, after all.

February 05, 2015 at 12:07 pm
Yeah. I guess it's just the combo of drugs, money, and a gun that seems troubling to me, even if each of those things in isolation isn't necessarily horrible.

Smoking that stuff won't make the last 5 min of the Seahawk game change, no matter how much you puff, but I'm feeling his pain. Of course I'm not gonna loose a fat NFL contract either. Welcome back BJ, and undisclosed future draft pick.
