Report: Packers Closing in on Deal with OT Bryan Bulaga

Nothing is official yet, but it appears the Packers are nearing a deal to keep their offensive lineman off the open market.

It appears push has come to shove in the Green Bay Packers' attempt to retain the services of offensive lineman Bryan Bulaga.

While nothing is official, Ian Raporport of the NFL Network indicates the sides are close on a deal:

The only question is, how much?

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers originally weren't willing to pay as much as $7 million per season to sign Bulaga:

Wide receiver Randall Cobb reportedly took a so-called "hometown discount" to stick with a contending football team in Green Bay, and now everyone will be watching to see if Bulaga will do the same.

The start of free agency in the NFL begins at 3:00 p.m. CT.

If TT//DC can just hit on 1 - 2 defensive players in this draft things will be all good.

I wonder if MM ever thought about using more starters on ST? Seems to work for the Steelers.

O-Line will be set for the next two seasons. Love it. Consistency is key. And with Tretter and Barclay back, the group is as good and deep as it's been in more than a decade.

Man...Lang, Sitton and Bahktiari all UFA in 2017.

Yes, but a lot can happen in two years. Nobody's got crystal balls.

(And if they did, Suh would probably stomp on them.)

Lang and Sitton already are near the top of the pay scale (Lang is the 13th highest paid OG and Sitton is 5th). Neither will have to be re-signed for much more than inflation increases plus just a little now that Lang has improved. Not worried about them. Bakhtiari will be looking at an increase of about $7 million per year in today's dollars. The 16th highest paid LT is Veldheer at $7 million per year, and Bakh only costs $700K. That is a big increase, and Bakh could improve and be better than an average LT in 2 years. But I agree that the continuity is wonderful. GB needs to win a SB this year while Peppers still has something in the tank.

RT @RapSheet: For #Packers OT Bryan Bulaga, it’s a 5-year deal worth an average of just under $7M per year, source said.

BOOM!

I'm glad he's signed. The Packers o-line last year was the best they've had in a decade. It's good news they kept it together.

I bet this means that they go with Tretter or a future draft choice instead of resigning Lang. Can't keep 'em all. At least we won't have to worry about this for quite some time. Next year's line is looking pretty darn good on paper, in every aspect (depth, experience, etc). Way to go, Pack!

How about going with Lang and making Tretter earn something?

Did anyone else see the friendly jabs TJ Lang threw at Kyle Long via Twitter?

Funny.

Worth the premium price to keep that unit together, they were like Fort Knox once they gell'd locking down the pocket.

Good job by TT keeping one of the league's best offensive units intact. No old guys, so IF they are as healthy as last year it should be a top 3 offense again.

Now he really needs to hit on a couple of great defensive draft picks. DL/ILB/CB please. If they can get lucky with a late round TE then that would be good too.

How to improve special teams? Play some starters I guess.

Saints trading Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks? For an average center and a 1st round pick?? Holy shit.

The Packers are going to be really interesting in 5 years when Schneider is in charge.

Unreal the trades today. Ngata is not bad but he also is 31 already. Bradford for Foles, not sure that will benefit either team. but well...

Same player. Average with potential to be solid NFL starter, Injury prone. Benefit goes to team that gains cap space, until either one of them does something spectacular.
