Report: Jermichael Finley at Least Two Months Away from Signing

From Bob McGinn of the Miwaukee Journal Sentinel

Tight end Jermichael Finley is at least two months away and maybe several months more from being in position to sign with a team, a source familiar with the situation said this week.

Finley, one of the 10 unsigned players on the Packers' unrestricted list, visited Seattle on March 12. John Schneider, who was scouting for the Packers when they drafted Finley in 2008, is the Seahawks' general manager.

The Seahawks thanked Finley for coming and informed him in so many words to stay in touch after the passage of time would presumably mean additional healing for his bruised spinal cord, according to sources.

Obviously few teams are willing to green light Finley after such little time has passed from his spinal-fusion surgery. They also don't appear willing to sign Finley to a lucrative deal with his health being such an uncertainty.

The longer Finley is on the market, the more salary-cap space is going to be used up everywhere across the league, including money being given to the incoming class of rookies. It's not looking as if Finley is going to make anywhere near the $7 million he earned per season last time around.

Finley said 99.9% cleared to play. C'MON MAN! Did he think he was going to get a pile of cash handed to him with this statement? Take the 10 mil and ride off into the sunset.

If they or someone does take him it will be on the cheap and they will have a huge insurance policy on him for their own protection.
I have that little voice saying he will not be cleared and it will be a Collins situation. If that is so I wish the guy the best.
Manning can stand behind a wall of guys and see someone coming and duck. Findley leads with the head in his role. Not a good thing.
Not to mention if Seattle is waiting apparently so is all the other 31 teams. No law says they can't talk to him and I've only seen Seattle showing interest.

Don't know if this is the right place for this,but...

I was going through old video on Finley and I noticed he isn't too good in route running. That leads to a lot of jumped routes which leads to him crying for a ton of PI calls. This doesn't mean he isn't talented. It's just something I never really picked up on and I don't think I've heard/read anything about it on him.

"It might just mean he didn't pass the physical now, but might be able to pass in a few months."

Oh, of course. I was just passing the info along.

I was one of Finleys biggest critics, as most here know. I wanted to trade Hawk & Finley 2 years ago. I changed my mind on Finley last year. He showed me some improvement, & he is still young. I believe he would add a force to our offense, if he is cleared & 100%. I would like to see him back if 100%, & would be willing to give him a year or maybe 2. I don't however, see Finley signing with GB on the Cheap. If he's 100%, I think he would want a decent contract, something I don't think GB is willing to pay. If Healthy, I believe he is still worth looking at. JMO

I'd like to give Finley 1 more chance. He was getting
8 Mill a year. I don't see GB giving a fraction of that. If he's able to play, I think he would probably get more than GB would be willing to pay. If at all, I'd see GB offering some type of Minimum contract with incentives. Unless he has no other offers, I don't see him accepting that. I'd like to see him back, to see if I was right on his improvement. He never proved to me, that he could catch a ball in traffic, but he looked better last year, until he got hurt. If he ever lives up to expectations, he'd be a hell of a tight end.

Hey Tom, long time no see. Sorry about James Jones , nobody likes this side of the business. Finley needs a solid year off. If he takes the insurance pay, he's done for good. No way he can make that up with a new contract from anyone.

Hi 4thand1, Yeah I was hoping against hope he was going to be back. Without question, one of my all time favorite Packers. I sure hope they make room for him in the Packer Hall Of Fame. He is a Class Act. I hope he does Great at Oakland. I heard him talk, & he said he would be watching how all the guy's at GB were doing. He sounded happy to be home, & he got a Good Contract. Good for JJ. I actually hope Oakland can find a Good QB.

Findley can't pass the physical right now. A good source who knows a lot of taking care of patients will neuro surgical procedures says the C3-C4 effects the hands a great deal. Numbness, feel, etc.
I would not be totally shocked he is not cleared and if he is caveat "buyer beware".
I wish the guy the best no matter what.
