Report: Free Agent DL Letroy Guion Has Visit Scheduled with Packers

The former Vikings defensive linemen reportedly has a visit set up for Sunday.

According to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press:

The Packers have familiarity with Guion as a member of the NFC North divison rival Vikings for all six years of the defensive lineman's career.

After playing sparingly the few few years of his career, Guion has seen increased playing time the past couple seasons in Minnesota, starting every game he's played in the past two years.

More of a run stuffer than a pass rusher, Guion had the best season of his career in 2012, starting 15 games while making 31 tackles and two sacks.

Based on the interest the Packers have shown in reportedly scheduling visits with several defensive linemen, including Vance Walker, it's clear the Packers are trying to find some hole-plugging big bodies to offset the potential losses of B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly and C.J. Wilson.

The Packers are likely confident in their pass-rushing defensive linemen they know will be back in 2013 like Mike Daniels and Datone Jones. Now they need a run-stopping complement. At 6-4 and 303 lbs., Guion may be that type of player.

Where the Packers stand in the Walker sweepstakes is unknown. According to his agent, Walker will be visiting the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, but there's no word on the Packers.

Raji just signed. Does this mean we can stop the DL-go-round? Know we still need to do some work on the line but most everything is falling into place.

So, under contract they have Raji, Jones, Boyd, Daniels and Worthy plus Neal.

They lost (currently) Pickett, Jolly and Wilson (did they really keep 8 DL last year?).

You know they're going to draft at least one DL.

So, yeah, I'm not really seeing where a bargain FA would fit. Would anyone who is currently available be better than Jolly?

That said, I'd be more than a little disappointed if they go into 2014 with the exactly same DL as 2013, plus a rookie.

EDS is gone to Tampa. Ugh.

4 year, $14.5 mil. $3.5 per sounds about right.

Bahk,Sitton,Tretter,Lang and Bulaga. I'm not going to act like I know much about playing O-Line, but I'm assuming there's a huge difference between guard and center. I know we have O-linemen that can play take and guard, but geez.....center would be pushing it.

If they did move Lang to Center, I certainly hope it's Barclay they put at Right Guard, nor Bulaga.

They were in a tough spot with EDS. Like the JSO article scout said, he's a below-average starter, and they drafted Tretter to replace him last year. Unfortunately, due to a freak injury, they have no idea what they have in Tretter yet. But do they sign a guy that they don't think that highly of just in case Tretter doesn't work out? My guess is they would have been happy to do a 1- or maybe 2-year deal for EDS, but he probably wanted more. 4 would have been too long for us I think.

Here's hoping he brings someone (Ryan Wendell? De La Puente) in on a short-term deal at least as insurance. If Tretter shines in training camp, then let him go or keep him as a backup C/G.

More than reasonable. You'd think EDS would have taken 2 year, $8.5 million. Would have been money well spent toward Rodgers Health Plan and allowed trettor to prove himself.

Raji, Worthy, Jones, Boyd and Daniels. Wow. That's just ugly. GB usually carries 6 DL and carried 7 last year. Love Daniels as a situational sub. I expect that Jones and Boyd will improve. Worthy did nothing as a rookie and was injured in year two. Better hope he makes the jump. Still, this list is just depressing. I suspect GB will add a FA and a draft pick, maybe (probably) high.

It is what it is. Worthy was drafted in the 2nd. Its his turn to prove it. Daniels looks really good. Jones has to make a jump to prove something(1st round). Boyd looks promising too. Do anyone think the Packers are going to replace 1st and 2nd rounds picks with iffy cast away FA's. Raji back to NT where he belongs. This is what we have. I'm sure the Pack will draft another d-lineman. Pick up a couple more FA's before camp. I love the doom and gloom, I'm not worried because it not my job. To all the people who think the Lolions and Vikings got better,HA!. Funny, they always seem to be picking ahead of us.

The Vikings and Lions did get better, but so did the Packers. Tate has the best or one of the best catch % in football over the last year or two. I hate the guy, but he can catch the damn ball. With that said I think Hayward can handle him no problem as long as he's healthy.

Peppers will give Capers some options he hasn't had since Jenkins left. Worthy is coming back from a knee so who knows, but Jones will be one of those that make that big year 1 to 2 jump MM always talks about.

I like what the Packers have done so far. Still like to see then sign Jolly or Guion for depth. I love Pickett and thank him for his time in Green Bay but he's just getting to old now. Raji will be back at NT where he belongs and bringing him and Neal back were smart moves by Thompson. Thompson will take one of 4 players in the first round. He'll either take C.J. Mosley, Pryor, Clinton-Dix, or Ebron, depending on who's still left on the board. Many think he won't take a TE that high, but that kid is something else.
