Randall Cobb, Sam Shields Heading to the Pro Bowl

The Packers wide receiver and cornerback will be playing in the NFL's all-star game on Sunday.

One byproduct of losing the NFC Championship game is that Green Bay Packers players are eligible for the Pro Bowl.

Two new Packers players will be heading to Arizona this weekend for football's all-star game: wide receiver Randall Cobb and cornerback Sam Shields.

It's the first Pro Bowl honor for both players.

Cobb is replacing Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, who can't participate due to injury. Shileds replaces New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis, who qualified for the Super Bowl.

During the regular season, Cobb fininished tied for ninth in the NFL in receptions (91), 11th in receiveing yards (1,287) and tied for fourth in receiving touchdowns (12), all career highs.

Shields started all 14 games he played in and posted 42 tackles (32 solo), two interceptions and 13 passes defensed (No. 2 on the team), while adding an interception in the NFC Championship. His 42 tackles and 62 interception return yards are the second most in a single season in his career. He is the first Packers’ cornerback selected to the Pro Bowl since Charles Woodson in 2011.

Cobb should fein injury if he is a free agent next season. Why risk getting hurt when he could garner some big offers for teams that want to win the super bowl and contend.
If I was his agent I would tell him to sit it out, its not important enough.

"Shields replaces New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis, who qualified for the Super Bowl."

Why would an NFC cornerback replace a cornerback from the AFC? Did this report mean to mention a cornerback from off of the Seahawks?

The new convoluted draft system - 2 retired players (Irvin and Cris Carter this year) pick 4 team captains (DeMarco Murray and Joe Haden, JJ Watt and Antonio Brown). Irvin and Carter then pick each team, no AFC/NFC distinction anymore. I have no idea what the 4 captains do. Makes no sense.

Thank God I don't pay attention or watch the Pro Bowl.

I think they oughta just "select" or "name" the team but not actually play a game. Kinda like being named All-Pro, but with a different means of selection. This way, no injuries.
