Railbird Central Podcast: The Future of the Franchise

Episode 394

On today's show, reaction is provided to Bob McGinn's recent report at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Packers are reportedly working on a contract extension with head coach Mike McCarthy. Complicating matters is Ted Thompson's uncertain future as the general manager. While there's no end in sight, Thompson will eventually retire soon rather than later. McCarthy's stability could impact the ability of the Packers to attract a new general manager.

Enjoy.

That's exactly what I expect or very close anyway. Hopefully, they'll be able to moved Eliot Wolf right into Thompson's chair and he can then hire the HC he wants and draft the QB he likes if that hasn't already been done. Gotta stay ahead of the game and make sure we have a likely predecessor for Rodgers. If Wolf stays in GB throughout, he'll be in on the QB decision post-Rodgers.

Per Nagler: "Everyone I talk to in the league thinks Schneider will be the next GB GM."

I'd like that.

He makes as much sense as Wolf. One or the other would be great. I didn't mention him cuz he has a current GM position. But in GB he would have total control and not be behind Carroll.

I didn't and usually don't listen to podcasts. Sorry guys but they bore the hell outta me.

I'd say he makes more sense than Wolf only because he has actual GM experience. But Wolf is definitely being groomed and moving up the ranks quickly. I can't believe he and I are the same age.

EDIT: According to the Packers website, he has a creative writing degree.
